Quote:Yeah, I might try to remember to do the Admiral Sutter TF next time I get a char to the upper 30's. There's a big lack of missions between 35-39, that's where I always get bogged down with contacts being finished and this is when trying to find stuff to do is difficult. Once I get to 40, it gets much better usually. As far as I remember, Tina is 40+ also.Well we know he did an ITF and didn't like it, if I remember the thread correctly.
There's the Admiral Sutter TF, that's 35+ right? I like it anyway.
A lot of the stuff that I can think of is more for 40+, but if you've never done the Tina McIntyre and... I forget the other Praetorian arc contact's name... those were updated for the new Praetorian content, and they're generally fun. Mostly in a group because you can fight a lot of AVs, but still. -
Very cool. Now I just hope they don't remove the Celestial set before I can get it all. Time to buy some paragon points, it looks like.

I have just today finished off Tier 8 of Paragon Rewards.
Now can I start getting the Tier 9 VIP sets (Celestial, Fire and Ice) next token I get, or do I have to get the five other Tier 9 rewards (Signature Summon, Windfall, XP Booster, Enhancement Unslotter, Enhancement Booster) first? -
People claim the regular content is boring, yet they'll do the same trial from 1-50. Go figure.

And you'd think meteorologists would know the actual date of the vernal equinox. Just calling it Spring doesn't make it Spring, no matter how badly you'd like it to be.

Quote:Cool, now we know. This is a correct description of the way that Radio/Newspaper missions work - playing primarily as a redsider I can confirm that you swtich from 3 to 5 missions at Sharkhead and above, which is the 1st lvl 20 zone.
I have also corrected the Wiki
Thanks for correcting the wiki, too. -
Hmmm, curiouser and curiouser...

Quote:Ok, because of this answer I went back to Paragon Wiki to look again. This time, under "Police Radio" I found this:I believe it's 3 Radio/Paper missions to a Safeguard/Mayhem Mission up until level 20 or 25, and then after that it's 5 per.
Quote:"Once a Hero performs so many Police Scanner missions within a zone, the completion bar for a Detective in that zone will turn red, indicating that he/ she should talk to the Detective for a special assignment - a Safeguard Mission.
Heroes at Security Levels 5-15 will need to complete three (3) Police Scanner mission in order to get assigned to a Safeguard mission.
Heroes at Security Levels 16+ will need to complete five (5) Police Scanner mission in order to get assigned to a Safeguard mission." -
Quote:I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I'd use a scrapper or brute to scrap with and a tanker to tank with. Go figure.Brute it is, then. I already have an iScrap but since he's Regen I don't get much of a kick out of playing him.
For my own reasons, I will not be using SD as my secondary. Other than that, any recommendations on a Brute secondary which is easy to buff up via IO sets and Incarnate powers into the stratosphere?
One thing I've always noticed with every character I've ever played: while the primary set is important to how the toon is played, the secondary set goes a lot further towards how much fun it is to play. I have no idea why that is for me, but it's true every time with every AT.
It sounds like the majority would recommend secondaries with dmg auras. I can sure get behind that. That would mean DA, ElecA, FA, and SA. SA drops dmg and rech into the toilet so that's out. DA bothers me a ton since it actually offers more resist to psy than to dark and I figure a defensive set should always be best against it's own type. That implies ElecA or FA but I'm open to any suggestions except SD (which can't be used with the primary I plan to take).
What do you all think?
Thanks again for all the advice.
Robin
That being said, a damage aura is not your only taunt choice here. Doesn't Rise to the Challenge still have a taunt component? Try the WillPower set, and see if it makes a difference. -
I know that the radio missions were set up so that your first cycle of missions leading to a bank mission had you complete three radio missions, then you get the bank mission, and then after that, you had to do five radio missions before getting a bank mission. Now, on my new mind/psi dom, I'm only getting three radio missions every time before getting a bank mission. When did this change?
(Trolls who insist it was always three radio missions before a bank mission will be ignored without prejudice. It seems every time I ask in the Help Channel when a certain change happened, I always get one git who claims it was always that way, no matter what change I'm asking about.) -
I'm solidly an E. I know I have more than 1 billion but guesstimating that it's not more than 2 billion. Probably a conservative guess too, so it might be possible I'm a D, but that would somewhat surprise me.

Quote:In the game you describe, you get your first mount at 20, not 40. Granted, it's not the best travel power, but it sure beats running everywhere. In a game that has 85 levels, getting your first travel power at 20 is like getting the first travel power in CoH at 12, which is what level you used to get it at. So, yeah, we are better off getting it as early as 4, but I find I don't really need it that early and generally wait until 6, because I'm usually not traveling much to other zones until then.I personally hate any other MMO because of how travel is handled. Take Blizzard's Gorilla, for instance.
1-39: Run, unless you're a specific class.
40: Spend an absurd amount of cash buying a travel power.
41: Spend an absurd amount of cash (and a quest) LEARNING HOW TO USE SAID POWER.
42-60: Spend an inconceivable amount of cash to buy an 'epic' travel power.
60: Spend even more frivolous amounts of cash to buy a flying travel power.
60: Spend even even more frivolous amounts of cash to TRAIN TO FLY THE POWER.
70: Spend money on the most expensive thing in the entire game to buy an 'epic' flying travel power.

I planned on rolling a Dark/Dark dom when this set comes out, with my planned concept of a Lunar Dominator, with powers granted by the gods of the Moon. I've heard this set is weak for a dom set and I'm wondering would I be better off in terms of synergy if I went Dark/Psi instead. My play style with doms is to play from range mostly, tho, and I understand Psi is heavy with melee attacks.
So which would be better paired with Dark Control? Dark Assault or Psi Assault? -
Quote:For the same reason guys play them. They're nicer to look at! (ba-dum-tish!)Boy am I ever late to the party.
One thing I've noticed over the years is that female players tend to play female characters. I've asked about this phenomenon, but I've never gotten a straight answer (except for that one person who didn't like the sound of all the jumping grunts). Does no one know why they play female characters? |-:
Of course, many male players also play female characters exclusively, so the reverse isn't true.
How 'bout ye, female players? I skimmed the thread looking at the answers to that question, and there's an overwhelming preference for female characters. Care to share why you play female characters?
Actually, I tend to identify with my characters. It's cool to get off work and go be super for a while. I tried playing guy toons, really I did. But after laughing at them mostly, I had the problem where I just couldn't identify with them. I couldn't lose myself in the character, or figure out what the character's motivation was, it was frustrating. I couldn't even come up with bios for any of them. It was just a character. It wasn't "me". -
What side do you pick more than others?
Heroes, definitely. I tried to get into Villians and I did like the powersets, but now that they're available Hero-side, the Villian-side has kinda lost the appeal, except for my one 50 MM that I'm keeping there.
What play style do you prefer?
I solo mostly, due to being on mostly in the mornings, so I like ATs that can hold their own. I like scrappers mainly, and now brutes. I went through a defender phase, I might try it out as a corruptor now. I started getting into controllers a year ago when I took a year off, and now that I'm back, I've tried many dominators. Of course, I have the obligatory blasters. I tried Hero MMs, but I think they are more well-suited than many to redside. One warshade and one widow, just to try the epic sets.
What power set(s) do you favor?
I love, love, love the new Street Justice. It rocks so much when paired with WillPower. Dual Blades is so much fun too. I'm a sucker for Gravity Control, so I'm glad to see it get some much-needed love from the devs finally. I like Ice when blasting, mainly for the controls. I like Energy Assault for doms. I wish I could find a character I can get into Empathy with as a defender. I do like Radiation Emission as a defender.
What zones do you like the most?
I like Atlas Park a lot, probably because I have rampant altitis. Talos Island is a good base zone once in the 20s. I like Brickstown for the 30s, I have a suspicion I still haven't explored the entire zone, with the numerous subterranean areas. Peregrine Island is fun once I get to 45 or so.
Do you usually play as a male or female (word of hatred) ''toon''?
Female mainly. I tried a couple of guy characters, but just couldn't get into it.
Views on Role Playing?
I'm not detail-oriented enough to keep up with it on even one toon and keep my story consistent, nevermind more than one. I don't mind the folks that love it, though, it makes running through Pocket D interesting sometimes in the snippets you pick up running by. It's only a big deal on Virtue, as I have almost never seen anyone doing it on any other server.
Servers?
I started on Triumph, still have my first 50 there. Moved on to Pinnacle long enough to get about 10 characters there. Tried Protector for like a month. I have a whole bunch of test defenders on Guardian when I was trying to choose a good powerset combo. Then I moved to Freedom and I love the player base there. Branched out to Virtue and now I mainly stick to Freedom and Virtue. -

Quote:I support this wholeheartedly.I've been suggesting that the generic hero statue in the middle of the lake in the Promethus Park district of Atlas Park should be changed to one of Statesman - put a plaque by it with info on Statesman, and maybe a little bridge across to it from the shore, or an eye-catching NPC near it, to get the attention of new players, as they're already sent to that area by Matthew Habashy.
I think that it'd be a great way of honoring him, and of helping to draw newer players into the game lore.

Quote:This may be true, but I, for one, have a 22" widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080, and if I try to play in this resolution, everything is so tiny I can barely make it out. So I lowered the resolution to something close to the same ratio, but lower res, so everything looks bigger. Should I have kept the native resolution and just increased my window sizes to 150% on the UI (or whatever it takes to look right)? Which is the bigger drain on my computer's resources? (Crummy on-board video, so working at the lower end of graphics settings here...)Assuming that you're playing in full screen you should pick the native resolution of your monitor.
Assuming that you're playing on a Windows laptop and Windows is set up correctly for the native resolution for the monitor you should be able to find the resolution on the Display Properties panel by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Properties" from the pop-up menu. On the laptop I'm typing on it's on the "Settings" tab of the panel but this may vary from version to version. (I'm in a coffee shop now so I've only got this machine to go by.) -
No, you're not alone.
I don't understand the hatred for Statesman either. Whether you like him or not, he's been the face of this game forever. I wonder what or who will represent the personality of this game after Statesman is gone.
Maybe no one. And that's sad. -
Quote:Only broken things can be fixed. I'm guessing this is WAI.While the developers seem to be in a lets fix 6 year old problems mood, please fix the ability to trade without losing the ++ effect. Thanks!
People are always assuming things are broken if they don't like how they work. -
Quote:^This, this, and more this. The term toon first emerged in late 2001 early 2002 in a game called Everquest. I played Ultima Online from when it first came out (Which was the "first" MMORPG, see the quotations) and that was never used there.
When Everquest came out it emerged as what paved the way for all the other MMORPG's out there. There were several terms flying around at the time:
Character or char to describe your character
Main to describe your primary character
Twink which was your alt character that you decked out with gear
Avatar (Not really used) to describe a character.
The prominent word of choice was character back in the day but somewhere along the way new players to the MMORPG's started using toon which was much shorter.
Ultimately, you can tell how "old school" a MMORPG player is by whether they use character (Like I do) or if they use toon.
As a matter of fact, EQ also spawned the interjection "woot!" or more often way back then, "w00t!"
Also, "ding!" for leveling, started way back in EQ, since the leveling sound in EQ was a quite distinctive "ding!" sound. -
Quote:We've got the vast majority of them beat, even the ones who release expansions you have to pay for instead of free issues. Even a particular grandaddy MMO that started in 1999 and is on its 18th expansion.Just curious but whats the most updates [like our issues] that a MMO has had? Just wonder how close we are to the top
