So I am not the only one with the "blinding white" problem. Too bad. I would rather be the only one suffering that.
Anyway, on the off chance someone in the know is reading this thread PMing those requesting: Add me to your list please? All I need is directory structure, and file format. I'll gladly do the rest. ((Although if you happen to have a darker file you can send along, I'd really appreciate it.)) -
Heh. I can live with that fix.
Quote:The zone loading screens are separate files in a different section (so I've heard)
and they may have been modified by Freedom's launch as well.
There are (sometimes) two screens on zoning. The first, it it happens, looks the same as the login screen. (Pack of heroes for Blue side, Recluse letting slip the arachnids of war redside, and Desdemona showing off her shorts gold side. Blinding white for Freedom.) The second would be the one for the zone going to.
It is the first one I am hoping to change. I do not mind the named zone ones, or the "Tip Screen" ones... Just the one that looks identical to the login in screen.
If that isn't possible, then I dub i21 "City of Heroes: Freedom from Choices." ;-P -
Here is a general discussion about it, and here is the official acknowledgement of it. (About half way down the post, title is "Paragon Market Mac Fonts."
-
First, I want to thank any and all people assisting with this. That ain't worth a hill of beans, but you have it anyway.
I have one question. Well two actually, depending on the answer to the first.
"Does this also change the zone splash screen as well?"
I almost exclusively run red-side, and I am getting a little tired off:
Soothing deep red > BRIGHT WHITE FLASH!!! > soothing deep red...
If the answer is yes, I'll be sending a PM to someone a bit later. -
It wasn't so much of a question of what I could do in my situation to improve the forum page, but more a report of how bad it was under those conditions.
My poor netbook with 800 x 600 is going to cry if I ever log on with it... -
I admit that the following is mostly a guess on my part, as I do not recall seeing anything in print clarifying this.
Quote:First, the (old) redeemable slots were not per server, they were per account. You just saw them on each server.I am a VIP player who returned to the game last month. Before Freedom Head Start began, I had five extra slot tokens available per server, which I never used. I don't even remember how I obtained them; they just showed up on the character select screen as "Redeemable Slots: 5". Now, however, I only have 12 slots per server available to me and zero extra slots available to redeem rather than five as before. Is this expected behavior or a bug?
Second, you do have extra slots. Those are the "Global Slots" at the top of the character select screen. You currently have 5, and that happens to match what you claimed you had before Freedom.
Quote:According to my NCSoft master account I am considered a 4 year 6 month veteran. If I drop to Premium status, how many "global character slots" should I expect to have access to? If I understand the math correctly, it should be 6, shouldn't it? Yet on the character select screens it says "Global Slots: 5". Is there a hard cap of 5 for Premium players (prior to spending points to unlock more) or something?
To see what you would get as a Premium, you pretty much have to become Premium, unfortunately. -
My breadcrumbs looks like this:

Forum converted
to free verse
And if I could borrow this thread, the whole upper portion of the forums should be redesigned a bit. At 1680 x 1050 (recommended for my monitor) and the browser window just wide enough to get all of the forum links on one bar ("Official Site," to "Log Out") half of the browser window is taken up with the forum logo, the forum links, the top bar (breadcrumbs to PM window), and the forum description.
That is a little much. I feel sorry for anyone who can't run at a higher resolution than me. -
It isn't what you are looking for, but you could save the costume files, and reroll the characters on the new account?
You would have to level them again, but with some effort you could even send the enhancements to your other account. -
Quote:Strange enough i cant login to my EU forum account now, keep saying invalid passwordQuote:Also, SinergyX, that's happened to a lot of people, myself included. If you can't log in you'll just have to wait it out.

((I can finally log onto the forums again!!))
I've been wanting to post this since yesterday...
First, try opening the Task Manager (simple way is to press Ctrl + Alt + Del once [I do not know if it was changed with newer Windows, but pressing that key combo twice used to quick reboot] and selecting "start Task Manager at the bottom of the list), look for any and all instances of "NCSoftLauncher in the Applications tab, or "NCLauncher" in the Processes tab, and select them and end them.
Also, the next time you have the NCSoft Launcher open, click on File > Settings and uncheck "Automatically run the Launcher at Windows startup."
I've seen some people report that the Launcher gets crazy on them if they run it automatically at startup, but it runs fine when that isn't checked.
Reboot for good measure, then give it a shot. -
I'd just be happy if the old "uiskin" pages worked.
Right now the "uiskin" option is only good for changing the color of the "Loading" bar...
EDITed to add:
Quote:A workaround is to log into your Master Account page, and change the (game login) account password.Forum is still buggy I guess, my main account says invalid password or "you don't have access"
You can change it to the exact same thing if you want. It looks like the passwords got corrupted on some accounts, and changing it updates them. -
Quote:The new contact for villains is a goldbricker and you get a prompt from him as an introduction upon reaching the level at which capes/aura missions are accessible. Check your contact listing for more info.Quote:I think his name is Mr Rodney. However, the easy way to find him is to go to Lawrence Langston's mansion in Cap au Diable (the building in the New Haven area with the hedge maze on the front lawn) and he's out front.
He didn't show up in my contacts lists, any of them.
But he should be found under the new "Find Contact" button near the top of your contacts lists.
I'd suggest getting used to this button, it should be quite helpful in the future. ;-) -
I just wrote this up for someone the other day.
Use this post. if no one points you to a better one. -
I am reluctant to suggest this, as it is a mixed bag. When it works, it works fine. But when it goes wrong, it really goes wrong. (Fortunately, that is rarely.)
So try the following at your own risk!
Uninstall your drivers through control panel. Reboot into safe mode. Run Driver Sweeper (or another cleaner of your choice). Run a registry cleaner of your choice. (I use CCleaner myself) [--THIS is where it will go wrong, if it does--] Reboot and install your drivers of choice.
If this doesn't work, the only other thing I have is a complete clean install of your OS... -
Just in case this comes across as condescending, know that I am only trying to be thorough and clear. I am not meaning to be snippy or condescending.
- Download your driver(s) of choice. Do not install it yet Download and install your driver cleaner of choice. I've used Driver Sweeper myself without any problems. Do not run it yet.
- Go to control panel, and select "Uninstall a program" (if on Vista/Win 7), or "Add/Remove Program" if on a system earlier than Vista.
- There should be only one entry with "ATI" or "Catalyst" in it. Select it, and uninstall it. Depending on the system, you might have to click "Change" instead of "Uninstall." If there are more than one entry, repeat for all of them.
- Reboot into safe mode.
- This can be tricky. Newer systems try to speed up boot times and that makes finding safe mode a bit more difficult.
- You want to press F8 just before the Windows Loading screen comes up.
- On a system that displays the POST (you'll recognize it if you get to see the grey text on black background mentioning things like drive detection and memory tests), I start pressing F8 repeatedly after the memory test and that usually works. Occasionally I have to reboot and try again.
- On a system that just shows splash screens, start pushing F8 on the screen before the Windows loading screen.
- You will know if you got it right if instead of the Windows loading screen you get a grey text on black background menu with the first option being "Safe Mode."
- Select "Safe Mode" and press enter. Unless you need Networking for something (and you do not for this), avoid ever selecting Safe Mode with Network Support.
- In safe mode, your computer will look "wrong" because your graphic settings are all minimum. Relax, that is okay. You will get a help page pop up describing what Safe Mode is. Read it or not, the choice is yours.
- Run your driver cleaner of choice. With Driver Sweeper, select the checkbox next to AMD - Display, and click "Clean." Alternatively, click "Analyze" first to see just what all is left behind even after you uninstall from Control Panel.
- Reboot normally. If Windows tries to install any drivers for new hardware, stop it. You want to handle this one without Windows.
- After rebooting, and stopping any auto instals by Windows, run the Driver installation of your choice.
- Reboot when required.
- That should be it.
-
According to your Helper file there, it looks like you are running the 11.5 drivers.
When you rolled back you drivers did you completely uninstall the old drivers? You might need to use Driver Sweeper to get them all.
Because if you are running anything other than 11.5 now, it looks like you have leftover driver crud. -

I think that part of the Adviser is broke, I just don't have a clue which end it is broken on. -
Quote:Unfortunately, it isn't faster for everyone. I'm not sure what the hold up is for some (internet, ISP, local, whatever) but several people have reported the NCSoft Launcher to be slower than the old CoHLauncher.I've noticed that the current NCSoft Launcher is so many times quicker than the original one for any download that I'm not sure how important the whole pre-downloading concept would be with it.
Considering the number of people reporting problems even getting the NCSoft Launcher to even work in the tech help section... I wouldn't hold my breath for a smooth launch for the big picture.
EDITed to add:
Yes, and no. It is more functional, but requires end users to fudge it on many occasions. -
I don't have any suggestions to help, I'm sorry to say.
But I am curious: Abraxus2 and Ultimus, are you running 64 bit Windows by chance? -

Quote:((Double posting just so the thread shows as updated - for those that might care.))So I will give it another run later in the day and see what it spits out.
I ran it again later in the day, and I just ran it a third time in "so not prime time" (about 11:30PM Pacific time, 2:30AM Eastern time) to limit that effect on the test.
I am still receiving "connect failed" for every server connectivity check.
So I think that part of the tool is not trustworthy at all.
Interestingly, I am still getting > 10% packet loss at Level3s Atlanta hub(s)... (If domain name can be trusted.) -
Quote:Are you really running a HD 6800 series card?Monitor:
Monitor's Max Resolution: (blank)
Video Device Name: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Manufacturer / Chip: ATI Technologies Inc. / ATI display adapter (0x6738)
Video Memory: 743 MB

If so, there aren't a lot of cards out there that are better.

That chart is a bit outdated, but it shows that depending on which card you are actually running (6850/6870) you probably won't really notice an upgrade unless you go super high end. -

Quote:I tried running this just now, as sort of a control. Aside from client locks from driver issues if I use anything higher than Catalyst 11.4, I have little or no technical issues with CoH.I am almost positive this is a connectivity issue.
http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor
That link is to a testing application that support asked me to use. When I looked at the results, it showed me that basically, the CoH side is not getting the signal. Kind of like one modem calling another and not getting an answer.
It couldn't connect to any of the checked servers, even though it was able to run pathpings after checking.
So... It might not be the best tool to use.
It does have a very detailed report though, and pointed me towards an issue I didn't even know I had. (Do NOT bother installing the SRS Essentials audio program, it isn't that great. And it doesn't clean up well on uninstall - it was still selected as my default audio out device, and still had a registry entry. :-S)
I did notice a disturbing amount of lost packets en-route for my pathpings... (Not on my end, and not on CoH end, but in between.)
So I will give it another run later in the day and see what it spits out.
Oh, note: The output is very detailed, so I would not suggest posting the output to any public forums. -
