  1. But there is a thread, in the Developers' Corner.
    Here it is.

It's pretty much the only thread Jay takes costume requests from, so post it there. Bigger chance he'll read it.
  2. I remeber doing something similar on an STF. Those technicians that are level 40 and spawn near the towers they want to repair. I had Telekinesis on the tower and Force Bubble running. He spawned, stood there for a second, then did a Team Rocket and blasted off into the horizon. Never saw him again.
  3. Wow, how blatant can a ripoff get? This "Pain" is an actual Naruto character. The Realms are his meat-puppets, literally. Corpses reanimated with magic chakra sticks. Yes, really. Our hero beats the stuffing out of the Realms then talks Pain to death. By showing him that killing is bad and wrong. Badong.

Looks like this arc not only rips a perfectly serviceable villain directly from Naruto, but it also completely misses the point. Pain himself is a weakling. Who is emo because they killed his dog (and family, and best friend). Nagato, I mean Pain should never be an AV, he should be a lieutenant at best, possibly just a minion. The whole point of the Pain battle (apart from clearing out some buildings that were in the way) was to let Naruto realize that violence isn't always the answer and that killing is badong. Even when the kill-ee really does deserve it.

Great candidate for a zero star review, in other words. Also a great candidate for an IP violation report, if one were in that mood.

    Actually wouldn't Castle = Fortress?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Castle is a reference to the chess maneuver of Castling, rather than to the architectural structure called a Castle. Hence my forum Avatar.

I was actually looking for a term synonymous with "Discovered Attack" for the Praetorian name, but settled on "Checkmate" when I couldn't find anything suitable in the 2 minutes I allowed myself to look.

    EDIT: To add clarification:
    [ QUOTE ]
In chess, a discovered attack is an attack revealed when one piece moves out of the way of another. Discovered attacks can be extremely powerful, as the piece moved can make a threat independently of the piece it reveals. Like many chess tactics, they succeed because the opponent is unable to meet two threats at once. While typically the consequence of a discovered attack is the gain of material, they do not have to do this to be effective; the tactic can be used merely to gain a tempo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Taken from Wikipedia

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are two moves in chess where pices move abnormally. There's castling where the King can move two steps and the Rook gets to move in the same turn.

The other one is En passant.

    Also quoth Wikipedia:
    [ QUOTE ]
En passant is a special capture made immediately after a player moves a pawn two squares forward from its starting position, and an opposing pawn could have captured it if it had moved only one square forward. In this situation, the opposing pawn may capture the pawn as if taking it "as it passes" through the first square. The resulting position is the same as if the pawn had only moved one square forward and the opposing pawn had captured normally. The en passant capture must be done on the very next turn, or the right to do so is lost. Such a move is the only occasion in chess in which a piece captures but does not move to the square of the captured piece.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When a pawn makes a double move, an opposing pawn can capture the pawn by moving to the spot it skipped. It's not as widely known as the castling, and "Checkmate" is a more powerful name, but the opposite of a Castle is an En Passant. Because in the Castling you move your most valuable piece, in an En Pessant you use your weakest piece to deny the opponent one of his. It's sort of a backstabbing move, really. You move behind the other piece to take it out.

Yes, I was a chess geek when I was younger.

(Europe Only)Addressed a bug that prevented European players from entering the French and German servers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ouch.

That explains why this patch came out that fast. That's half the EU servers inaccessible.

    THEY. FIXED. IT.

When editing text, avoid using the mouse to place your cursor. I've had a lot more success just using the arrow keys.

It's really nice to see this bug dead. I've been staying clear of my ID screen since I13, more or less, to make sure it wouldn't mess anything up.

    Resurrection IO

I have a different idea for an IO of this type.

Instead of being a chance to rez, why not make it work like the "Miracle" skill from the Fire Emblem games?

The idea is that when you take an otherwise fatal hit, there's a chance the damage will be halved. So if you have 500 HP left and get hit for 600 HP damage, you'd end up at 200 HP instead of dead. Of course, the same 600 HP attack will then kill you if you get hit again since you've got less than 300 HP.

Make it a chance, like 20% or something and you've got a unique IO power that doesn't replicate any power found in a powerset or powerpool, yet manages to be an offset to unlucky Defense rolls.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I'd say they don't need a compliment; they already know how awesome they are.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know I am. When I play my TA, the best compliment I can get is to see the rest of the team tear through the debuffed enemies like a flaming chainsaw through butter. Although holding off on one of your Fire/Energy AoEs until after the Oil is on the floor is a nice gesture. So is not knocking everything off the glue/gas/oil/acid patch of doom.

But if you really want to compliment me, a "Wow that was easy!" is all I need to hear. I'll know why.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
    Just one? ONE???

    [/ QUOTE ]

The topic only asked for one.

I do have "Battleground" for a Stone Tank, though I never really play him anymore. Maybe I should reroll him and try another secondary. /Fire didn't really work out for him.

  11. If you're going to change Hurdle, it'd be fun to give it +Double Jump instead. Like the GvE jumpjet, but only for one extra jump before you have to touch down again. Not that useful, but fun.
  12. Don't we all? I'm just a Paperinik fan.

Where else do you get to see Donald Duck pilot a heavily armed mech to take out the larval forms of an alien invasion with a squad of US Army mechs backing him up?
  13. A latecomer idea, which is bad because it is trademarked and silly:

    "Paperinik" AKA "PK"

    To quote the TVTropes entry:

    [ QUOTE ]
Simply put: Paperinik is to Donald Duck what Batman is to Bruce Wayne.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, really. No, I'm not making this up. That is an actual character. It makes sense, honest, and the PKNA series is actually pretty good.

It's what I think of when I see "PK". Donald Duck as a Batman inspired superhero. Which is awesome.

Also, since everyone calls you PK, why not settle for PK as your permanent name? It doesn't get much easier than a two letter name. You can then rotate avatars for different versions of what PK is an abbreviation for.
  14. <QR>

Uh-oh. You might want to be REALLY sure that the name you have is one you like, because it's going to become permanent!

  15. Oh, shared boards for both US and EU communities? That's nice.

I can't help but wonder if this hints towards a global CoH account later on, but that's just speculation. Would be kind of nice to gain access to both US and EU servers, though.

Slightly offtopic: How'd you make the registered trademark symbol, anyway?
  16. You know, I have been toying with the idea of making "The Unfarmable Mission" by including all the end draining, slowing and generally nasty critters in a map. Then maybe hold a time trial. "Whoever clears the map the fastest wins." I don't know, it's still a loose idea, but I sort of like it.

You burn witches, and you also burn wood.

Except you can also make bridges out of stone.

So we throw the farmer into the lake first. Wood floats, stone doesn't. No not even really tiny stones. (Pumice doesn't count.)
And if the farmer floats, we burn him!

EDIT: Villains get a pretty good deal, too. "Arachnos thinks you could be useful. We're allowing you to use the Arachnos sponsored mediport facilities here on the Isles. Stay useful and you'll stay on the mediport service."

    [/ QUOTE ]

"And then we'll all try to beat you up whenever we see you anyway and won't even revoke your mediport access when there's an Arachnos death warrant out for your arrest!"

I hate you so much, Arachnos.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, duh. They're evil! Why kill you once, when they can set it up so they can kill you repeatedly? They're likely keeping score, too. "Kill" enough Destined Ones for a reward.
  21. Eh, dealing with heroes messing up is pretty straightforward. Revoke their registration. The City is paying for your basic heroing expenses as long as you keep doing good (IE gaining Influence), so losing registration is pretty much the same as getting fired.

There's really no need for conspiracies when there's enough bureaucracy to go around. But in general hero registration in CoH is a good deal for the heroes.

    Wouldn't that hurt your fingers?
  23. Sure, let's revolt. Registered heroes get to use the Medi-port, unregistered don't. That's what the little RFID tag on the ID card is for. Registering in CoH is beneficial, and you don't even have to tell them your secret identity if you don't want to.

The reason there's no CoH Civil War, is because the government in Paragon City aren't idiots.

Which is both a good thing and a huge shame, as I really wanted that power on my grav/FF controller.

The closest we've seen semi-recently was Moment of Glory. Rather than a long term Tier 9 that in some cases made you easier to kill, it's now basically a defensive Build Up that gives you a moment of being really tough to kill. It actually became a Moment of Glory.
