If they all quit or are kicked, the TF will disband when there is only 1 member remaining. To keep the TF active with only 1 person, you'll need at least 1 of those extra people to simply LOG OFF instead.

Quote:I'm aware it can take a long time to take one down, but I dunno.. "plink" just makes it sound like you are hitting them with something like a sniper and running off to let it recharge and making sure the AV doesn't take you down in the meantime. Obviously, such a tactic would not work.I am aware of this. Some vids of AV take downs involve epic length fights.
If you want to use another word for doing a little more dps than their regen for an extended period of time feel free. IMVHO, plink seems appropriate term for such a strategy. YMMV
"Plink: To shoot at casually."
I suppose that would work on the Hyrda head (using the temp power) because it has no regen, if only the mission wasn't timed. lol -
AVs have pretty high Regeneration. You can't really "plink" them and make any real progress, even after half an hour. You'd have to really be engaging them in battle to take them down.

Quote:The game actually doesn't use that much bandwidth. Dial-up users might have longer zoning and patch downloads, but playing the game itself isn't normally any much different until you get into crowded areas. Using ONE more extra instance shouldn't be a huge load on the network... especially not for simple things like promoting yourself.*I doubt a dial-up connection could run two instances of the game, and I don't know if Linux or Mac OS allow multiple instances of the same program, though I assume they do. My comment refers to Windows users with a broadband connection.
*I only had experience with dial-up ONE time a long time ago at a friend's house, where we did indeed run both our accounts at the same time to conduct a few transactions.
Besides.. technically, you don't even need really to run both instances (logged in) at the same time. Mechanically, an account is still logged in for 30 seconds after you quit, so if you loaded both instances first, then logged on one character and quit to desktop, you could log in the other account and promote them before the server signs them off. That wouldn't use any extra network resources than normal. -
What about Sewer Trial? It has no regen, but I'm sure it'd be a heck of a pain trying to get enough damage on it before running out of time. non-soloable? lol
-
Quote:Was that under the "-1" difficulty? If so, I'm not sure I would count that.Someone successfully soloed RSF in 7+ hours.
Couldn't find that post with screenie yet
I'm not saying it's not a great accomplishment, but since you can't "-1" a TF anymore, you can't really use those as evidence of it still being possible. -
Quote:I suppose it's possible the status of the fix changed a couple of times of in the past couple months then. I know for a fact I couldn't use that option on that particular day in October, so maybe it worked again shortly after that, and was "fixed" yet again last week when you encountered it.Trust me. I had an event running overnight which was ended by the routine maintenance. I wasn't working that day, so I tried to set it up again immediately after maintenance.
Quote:Ah, I didn't think to try that.
Wanna bet that gets fixed by the end of the month, now that you posted about it?
I like to think that considering the number of problems I've found and reported in this game, and I don't have Bug Hunter (yet?), I think my posts go mostly unnoticed by the Devs, so I'm not worried so much about it. lol -
I get that on my main PC once in a while as well. I don't do ANY web browsing with it at all, and the only programs I even have installed on it as CoH and HeroStats (both of which I downloaded the install file with my laptop and transferred over my network).
I don't know what Bonjour is, and I don't even have Quicktime or any other "i" products from Apple either.
It only happens if I try shutting down my system almost immediately after logging off the game. I posted about this a long time ago and we chalked it up to a stuck network process that happens sometimes when "exiting to desktop". If my system is idle for at least a minute or so, I can shut down normally anyway.
I don't worry about it. All is fine. -
Quote:Best I could tolerate at the same time was this:Also, in the pursuit of maximum efficiency, I tried *ONCE* to earn every challenge badge for a level range at the same time. Enemies buffed, player debuffed, no enhancements, no inspirations, no temp powers, no travel powers. Not fun.
Attempt1: Enemy Buffed, no Insp, only AT
Attempt2: Player Debuff, no Temp
Attempt3: No Enhance, no Travel
Depending on which toon I was using, different attempts would be harder than others, but it gave me a run for my money a couple of times anyway. At least i tried to balance it the best I could. -
Quote:Ah but the more you play them the longer it takes for the Day jobs. Day jobs definitely augmented my already bad case of altitis.Quote:Considering that I can only play one character at a time (my compy doesn't support dual-clienting very well), that's not really an issue for me.
Getting there ASAP was never a concern for me. I always knew that I'd get them eventually, and at least I didn't lock myself out of any of my own characters and was still able to enjoy them anytime I wanted to in the meantime.
Considering I'll be completing my sets in just a couple more weeks as well, it doesn't seem like it was any big deal. Even if it took twice as long, it wouldn't bother me. I'm not going anywhere. -
Quote:I believe it was "fixed" much earlier than just last week. When I last ran that farm on another character (October 12), it was giving me a problem with the "last man standing" option as well. This was um... well, technically, it was fixing an exploit but let's go with the phrase everyone else is going to apply: this was 'stealth nerfed' during the routine maintenance last week. Since it was a server-side change, no client patch was required.
I thought I had to deal with a 30 minute timer...
BUT, I didn't have to! I simply set it to "individual kills: 10", and it still worked all night long without timing out.
(I tested that option as recently as 5 minutes ago, to make sure.. and it still worked) -
Quote:The high count of bosses in Lost missions is not in dispute.I don't think it's a bug. I have noticed the high number of boss encounters during lost missions. Some missions I've seen consistently spawn a boss for every mob.
Go play Ashley McKnight's "Collect the Amulets of Corax" mission, and you will see a boss every mob. Although some do come with minions, the majority is bosses. There's even a warning on Paragonwiki.com that warns against the large number of bosses.
Clickie for article
Having at least 1 boss in each mob is a completely different thing than a mission composed of ONLY bosses, which is what we're referring to here... and extends beyond just Lost missions. -
Once in a while I run into that too... sometimes even on TFs. I once ran a mission that consisted of JUST Fake Nemesis, but each mob only consisted of the 2 of them standing together... so it wasn't that bad. Other's I've seen include Freak Tanks, Warrior Elites, and even Spirit Masks.
Resetting the mission usually reulted in a normal spawn again, even under the same conditions. (this was even before the new challenge settings) -
Quote:On a side note of this.. I wish you could just set an option to "auto-accept" the fortunes so you wont have to even pay any attention to it.the people spaming fortunes on you while leveling up at a trainer or seaching for salvage to sell at Wentworths.
Even better.. if there was an "auto-reply", you could instantly return the favor as well.. but the coding for that could get messy, and some people might grief with it. haha -
Quote:When a character was defeated, I'd log out with them still unconscious. When it was their turn to get beaten up again, I'd log back in and use a wakeyQuote:I don't think this works any more. If you just lie there, you get sent to the hospital automatically after 2 minutes. Also, if you log in dead, you get sent immediately (before your screen even finishes drawing).
I used a similar method.. Logging out on the character and killed him with the badge toon before the timer expired and when the cycle came back around to him, he'd have minimal health and take less effort to kill him again as the logout timer counts down for the next round. -
Quote:It was just a cheap, crummy, poorly made SF that was built to exclude ATs. I remember Statesman offered people a free year of playtime if they could beat it (basically to find a sploit the Devs didn't see). Instead you got min-maxed groups metagaming and rolling over it abusing shivans/nukes/vengbait.
Nothing to see there. Do it for the badge for the accolade and ignore it, the merit reward is a slap in the face (what was it, 20 or something? rofl) and randoming for an HO sucks. At least let you PICK your shoe.Quote:Yeah 'k.
Quoting you to our regular Master teams on Freedom, where we make it a point of pride not to rely on one particular AT on any run: It's just about knowing HOW to run it.
This'll get a good laugh. Thanks.
The TF itself is not super hard at all. It's all about strategy and common sense.. not about min/max'ing.. especially considering we usually run with the "Master of" challenges and wouldn't even have access to Shivans or extra nukes of any kind anyway. And with no deaths.. there is no "vengbait" either.
We don't require any specific toons... just players that can listen to and follow direction, and have a good time with. I'm not saying we've never failed completely, but that's usually when something extra-ordinary happens and we are severely lacking something on the team (like team members that fall asleep, haha).
And yes, I agree with the OP.. the -1 settings on "master of" groups was very cheap. I wish they didn't even count.
Here's how our team felt after an amazingly easy MoSTF:

Without looking through your whole list of specs, it sounds to me like the lightning may have damaged more than just your motherboard. Even though other hardware may not have exhibited signs of damage at first, it still could have caused any minor damage that significantly lessened the lifespan of the hardware, and is just now giving you a problem. If there is ANY way of testing another video card in the system, I would try it, if even just for diagnostic purposes.
80c at rest does seem very hot... even for a card that runs hot. For comparison, my 9600gt only runs at about 50-60c under load. I just did some quick Google searches and found people reporting upward of 70c with the 8800gt, and slightly higher for the 8800gtx. The card should still run fine at the temps you are getting.. but not if it actually was damaged from the storm in some way... and if it's 80c while IDLE, then something seems very wrong there. If the card has always run at that temperature, I suggest looking at your case cooling system next time you rebuild or upgrade. Even though that temp might work for a while and seems fine, it's not something I'd be comfortable with. Running too high for a long time will make devices fail much sooner. Sometimes an extra $5 fan can go a long way to save hundreds.
On a side note, if you updated your driver just before you did that registry restore, that might explain the artifacts in video playback if it was trying to reference an old driver or file that was moved or no longer existed. -

Quote:Well that certainly explains it. I don't typically use IE, so mine isn't updated to version 8 and doesn't get that extra process when I was trying to test it out. This is perfectly normal. It's a trend that was started with Google Chrome's Multi Process Architecture, to have each tab be a separate process and sandbox them; that isolates each page from the rest, minimizing the impact of security vulnerabilities, and also keeping the browser intact when one of the tabs crashes.
You have one processs for the IE "main frame", and several processes the tabs. Microsoft calls this "Loosely-Coupled IE".

I'm in. I don't think I've done Mo on Phanta-Rad yet.
Ill/Rad -
On a side note, somebody should probably update the /gmotd in-game. We have to keep directing people to this thread just to prove the event is not over tomorrow. lol

Quote:This.I used to see that when I had AOL..2 instances. I usually terminated the one using less mem usage, and it seemed to speed it up. You might try that. If IE closes, then you know to leave it alone next time. You also might check your TM again after a few minutes and see if the second instance closes itself.
Sometimes, a program will get "Stuck" when it's closing down, resulting in the process still running, even though there is no active window for it. If it doesn't go away in a minute or so (allow it extra time to sort out it's problem on it's own), just shut it down yourself. -
Quote:I think the Winter Lord spawning is actually handled as a zone event. The warning everybody in the zone gets is evidence of that. A marker is also placed on the map once the gift is presented upon defeat. the only thing we are missing is a message in the Zone Event channel. lolWhat I've seen people saying is that Scrappy doesn't spawn AFTER the WL is out; not that they can't be out at the same time (i.e., Scrappy spawns prior to the WL).
GMs can certainly be out during zone events like a Rikti invasion. During Halloween, we had Jack and Eochai hunts during the Banner events all the time... but I think they were usually there before the event started, and GMs don't "run and hide" like regular zone foes do... which means it makes perfect sense for Scrappy to be around, but not re-spawn while WL is up. -
Quote:That said, there was a rather nasty interface bug that happens when somebody who does not have the accolade tries to use that command while not being at the AE building./architect can be used without the accolade, provided you are in the main room of the Architect building.
I don't recommend trying it. lol
Edit:
Nevermind.. it appears they fixed it. It now gives an error message instead.
