Just another welcome to the game. If I see ya in game I'll say, "Hello." We like when new folks join the game here.
And, just to add another possibility on your pet question that I haven't seen anyone else mention, many Veteran players have 2 *really* minor pets, so that also could up the total number the Mastermind in the video you saw had. But, like everyone has said, they aren't true henchmen. Between temp powers, Vet powers, and primary and secondary, a Thugs/Dark MM may be able to get over 25 pets and henchmen, for a short time. But for the most part, MM get from 1-6, depending on level. -
My experiences mirrors most of the other posters. Mostly them seem very similar except the final mish hero side is consistently faster, and I get sent to other zones less blueside. After I get 3 tips I like to investigate them in Atlas, since it's tiny, and I often invite a lowbie along for the ride that way. Where ever you choose to investigate them, blue seems a tad more efficient. Not much difference, but enough to be noticeable.

Quote:That possibility was my biggest concern about that combo. I was worried that the offense may be low, and that it might not be the most interesting. While in my book Survivability and Aggro Control are the top 2 priorities for a tank, the ability to contribute seriously on offense is nice, too.I'm a fan of shield / ice because ice melee is lower on damage while shields helps improve that. Ice patch also helps lower incoming dps to give shields that added survivability before you fully round out the toon with pool powers and IOs.
Invul/ice is too laid back for me - no damage aura or +dam and no interesting tool powers in invul. It will certainly survive, but that you'll be sleeping just like the mobs in Frozen Aura. -
-
Quote:That sounds like a lot of fun, and good potential, thanks.1) Invuln/Ice should work out pretty well. It's got a few things going for it: Ice Patch can help you take less damage, while also keeping those foes contributing to your Defense against the foes not flopping about. Also, Invuln, since it doesn't have a damage aura, can make good use of Frozen Aura, which will sleep mobs after it hits them for damage, as long as you don't have the Ice Patch down knocking them over.
This can allow you to keep one spawn (or some of it, at least) flopping around on the Ice Patch, and another spawn slept, making you pretty safe.
Quote:2) Elec Armor is a weird beast. It's good on Tankers, especially when combined with Tough from the fighting pool, I'm just not all that thrilled with my Elec/DB Tanker (though that could be more to do with the /DB part of it). I think that it'll do fine on any of those ATs, but I've never tried it on a Scrapper.
Quote:Ive been looking and a Shield/Ice tank myself but am having challenges because there are so many powers I would want to take. However I find thats a good thing that I have a lot of choices. Invuln/Ice would work well. Everything should work well with INV.
Quote:As far as certain sets they will always would better on Tanks IMO because tanks can usually cap at a higher level than a Brute or Scrapper can. To me thats more about your playstyle than anything. Personally I cant stand scrappers. I tend to play Tanks and Brutes and while many call a brute almost the same as a scrapper I dont see it that way because I often play Brutes as mini Tanks that do more damage.
Thanks to both of you for the feedback. -
OK, my altitis is acting up again, and I've not played a tank in a while, so I'm thinking about a couple of new tank ideas.
1) I want an Ice Themed tank. I've already done 1 Ice Armor, so I'm leaning away from that, although based on the responses I get, I may be talked into another. I was thinking of using Ice Melee with something. And as I've done a Shield tank I was thinking of not going with that. Basically, I'm kinda leaning toward Invul/Ice. Any comments on how that pairing works? I am open to other ideas. If I went Ice Armor, I'd probably want to pair it with Battle Ax or War Mace.
2) And yet another alt... I was wanting to finally try out Electric Armor. I just haven't decided yet if it'd be best to try it first on a Brute, Scrapper, or Tank. How is the tank version of ElecA? Does ElecA lend itself better to tanking, or toward scrapping, or.... bruting (gah, that's an awkward word)?
Thanks in advance for all the insight and suggestions. -
Quote:The same situation doesn't happen with tier 3s, due in part to the limit or not having the initial money to post the items for a high enough minimum to make the time worth it to those that might want to, and to the fact that you can't email the Inf profit back to another alt till level 10. If both of those impediments aren't enough, the vet recipes could only be claimed at say, lvl 5.People would create toons, flood the market with Vet reward recipes, delete toons and rinse and repeat.
The world and its dog would have Vet Reward items rendering the system pointless
Given that most vets know how to make Inf more efficiently I don't think this would happen to an excessive extent, but I could be wrong. Also, if they did still flood the market in the face of this above mentioned minor obstacles, then prices drop like a stone, making it not worth the effort, at which point, people stop wasting their time with the whole process. -
May want to read that 4 or 5 times, as the Law of Five is fairly confusing. Very often 2 bonuses have nearly the same name, or just the same, with a rider. It gets confusing and it's hard to keep track of if you aren't very alert. Mid's REALLY helps. Only part of the IO system that may be as confusing to those new to IOing is the effects of exemplaring. Either of those 2 topics I'd consider upper-level IO classes for sure.
Good luck! -
You'd get the bonus for slotting 3 of the set, twice.

Just as a theory, or suggestion, but for those that don't like costume pieces being being part of vet rewards, what if all costume unlocks were instead a recipe that unlocked the items in question? So, I, for example, have been active X months and get the boxing themed gear. I click claim, and get a recipe that cost 100 Inf to craft and needs 2 common salvage. I craft it, and bang I have all the boxing stuff unlocked.
The reason I see this as an advantage is that someone will sell that recipe, and thus everyone has a chance to have these items, if they pay the market value. Would that satisfy some of those against the costume vet awards? -
Quote:I too am excited for i19 and inherent Fitness pool, but I really don't understand why people are holding off leveling/making new alts.
Everyone gets the inherent fitness. Everyone will get 2 freespecs per character when i19 hits.
We all know how to play with/cope without fitness on lowbies. If you have a lowbie you're excited about making/playing, why not do it and pretend inherent Fitness isn't coming? Then respec them when i19 hits?
That's what I'm doing, I don't want to hold off on having fun until that issue hits :P
For me, I just don't enjoy respeccing.. If I can avoid it by not making any more alts, and playing any of the scores I already have, that's a good thing. Of course, it's also very unlikely. I'll prolly make more when I get the inspiration anyhow. -
Quote:It would be nice if it actually worked. I'm in-game and looking at it now and everyone in the zone shows as just 'on a team' - including my teammates and team leader. All of them are the same color. Oh well.
Ah, well, that's disappointing. It does make keeping track of the colours easier, though. The colours mean, in that case, that the window looks prettier. -

Do the bonuses from sets affect pets? If for example you rely on pets to do most of your damage output, does slotting for global damage bonuses from sets make any sense?
-
Just wanted to point out, nothing says you have to Frankenslot or Slot for sets only. You can set slot one power entirely, Frenkenslot another, and have 2 different sets of 3 each in a 3rd power. That could get you fair amount of the nifty set global effects.

Each combo seems to have it's own slog points. Most trollers seems a pain from 25-31, a lot of tanks in the early to mid 20s, for a couple of easy examples. But in general, I like most everything till the mid t late 30s. Then there's the long slow road through 49. At 50, fun again. This is an exaggeration, and not true in all cases, but mostly that's the feeling I get.
And as a suggestion/question to the many folks who find the 'locked-id, pre-set' powers annoying in the pre20 phase, why not take the best powers for now, and respec at 20, or 24 if you are non-vet? Or swap to the 2nd build? I know it will soon be a non-issue, but I always wondered about that? -
OK, looking at the previous post you mentioned.... I think you statistics-fu is off. If each proc has a 20% chance of going off, and you have 3 or 4 as the OP indicated, then your chance of at least 1 going off is going to be greater than 20%. I mean, if you rolled 5 dice at once, your odds of seeing at least 1 six is better than 1 in 6. Unless the game has coding to prevent the normal statistical odds from working. Does it? I've not heard of that before.

Welcome back!
As for what you've missed out on... Wow. A LOT. I can't possible sum up all the changes. Best bet is to get in there. I can give a few highlights.
Crafting System
Auction Houses
No more hidden numbers
Faction swapping
I'm sure others can think of plenty to add to this list, but other than a massive amount of content, new powers, and costume/character/power/appearance customization, those strike me as the biggies in gameplay.
As for what to play.....
Well, all ATs can still solo, and at high levels solo very effectively. Not necessarily all power combos on all ATs, and certainly not all ATs will be equally effective in all situations, but in general, all ATs can solo, and all can bring stuff to a team for your other 10%.
That being said, the ATs best for a fairly new (returning) player IMO would be ones with some level of built in protection, like Scrappers, Tankers, Brutes, and depending on your tastes, Stalkers. As you're a vet MMOer, if pet management is up your alley, add Masterminds to that list.
I know many people will argue for their fav AT saying, "I solo with a Blaster all the time," and they're right, they can, and if you prefer unleashing ranged death, go for it, but for me, I find it a bit tougher in general. I mean, I play Defenders (offenders) solo all the time, and love it, but it's not what I'd suggest for a first go around.
And, as always. YMMV. Good luck, have fun, and again, welcome back! -
Quote:Would it make more since to stack procs like this in a power whose base damage was much smaller? Something atill with an area, like Caltrops perhaps is what I'm thinking?Assuming the power hits each proc will have a chance to fire and if multiple procs fire then they will each deal damage. Since it's an AoE each target will be checked independently.
Since each proc has a 20% chance of dealing 71.75 damage it's not really worth slotting them in place of damage enhancements. Each proc adds an average of 14.35 whereas a damage SO adds a garunteed 31.2 damage. So it's not worth considering adding procs until you've got 3 damage SOs (or equivilent) and sufficient accuracy. Even then recharge or endurance enhancements might be a better option. -
Quote:Thanks very much to both of you. I knew it had to be out there somewhere, but my forum search-fu was obviously lacking. From the i18 patch notes (<-- linky):
Yes, the font code was part of the notes... for some reason, it didn't work right for the post. But hopefully, you get the idea.
. -
The Search window that allows you to look for players is now colour coded, however, I can't find anyplace where it says what these codes mean. Without a key all the wonderful pretty colours aren't all that helpful.
Devs-- Hint: Maybe a key at the bottom of this window might be nice, or at least an entry into the in-game help files.
Until such time as that happens, can anyone tell me what all these colours mean? I've looked at different times and seem to recall there being about 5, but the two I can remember are pale blue and gold. Pretty sure pale blue means not on a team, but any further details would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all your help. -
Quote:Couldn't agree with this more. But, just might want to add a couple of things. The issue Golden Girl has brought up really has nothing to do with overreacting or being overly sensitive.
In a medium of entertainment that clearly strives to maintain certain levels of taste... That choice of a name is in questionable taste, if not clearly in bad taste.
Golden Girl, and anyone else, has every right to point this out. And no one needs to convince any other players about it, she is raising the issue to the creators and those responsible and capable of changing it.
While I do agree that the lengths of time since specific atrocities were committed do change the general etiquette regarding what is or is not in bad taste, I think that it is clear that most (If not all) other badge titles and other aspects of pop-culture and/or real world historical references in this game do not cross a certain standard.
If there are other historical references that resemble the relation of Malleus and Witches within this game, then I stand corrected.
In all honesty... the reference very well may have been picked up and chosen more from some fictional work (the name Witch Hammer and so on and so forth has likely been used in many fictional works) without realizing the bloody historical significance. I only say that to mention that the full matter may not have been considered when that name was chosen. *shrugs*
No one is crying and covering their children's eyes and making a big something out of nothing... Someone made a post (And hopefully a PM or more?) about an intellectual concern of content containing, at least, questionable taste.
I don't get offended by such things. However, I still recognize that the game seems to hold a certain standard and I can absolutely agree that this particular badge seems to break that standard.
Not a big deal. Remove that connection.
As for it being okay if you're a villain... Hey, yeah, I agree with that.
The questioned content isn't about how it does or doesn't fit with what happens in the game in order to achieve it... It is about the out-of-game connotation and the question of if that is necessarily in good taste.
Detractors of Golden Girl... Just as you may tell her to relax... Perhaps so should you.
First, meanings, and language change over time. If anyone even gets the reference, most think, "Witch Hunter," and think no further. So from that point of view, it seems within the games self-imposed limits. However on a deeper look, Golden Girl's points are quite on target. As EK said, it's fairly unique among the badges (as far as I'm aware) as to the nature of it's reference material.
So, *if* we were grant that it's in horrible taste (not saying I think it is or isn't), and that Golden Girl is completely right, it still may warrant more justification to be changed. What harm is done to leave it? Does anyone actually see it and think it's a vote of support and encouragement for the types of actions carried out hundreds of years ago? The only concrete harm I can see it causing is some people are going to be put off by it. But it's removal will also put some people off. If no other reason to change it can be thought of, it's going to be up to a Dev somewhere to decide how the 3 camps break down. I would guess the most will be in the "Don't really care," category, and the, "Must stay," and "Must be changed," camps will both small.
All of the other good arguments (and the bad ones) kinda go out the window really, is it causes more harm staying than going, or vice-versa. But if it's just a matter of group A doesn't care, group B hates it, and group c love it, it's just a popularity contest, and thus the reasons you care doesn't matter, it's all taste at that point, as far as I can tell. -
Quote:'Nuremberg' might be the best badge title for the theoretical Council/5th Column defeat badge. Although that works best if the Council/5th Column really are Nazi analogs. I seem to recall that Requiem was part of Mussolini's government, though.I fail to see why not, although Nazis were of course not actually the ones interned in death camps, so that might be kind of backwards.
Badge text could go something like: "You've given the Council a taste of their own deadly medicine," or I am sure someone else could think up text even more appropriate.
