Quote:This is unlikely, the ability to get a travel power at level 6 is currently a reward for players that have been around for 63 months or so...I actually started supers MMOs with Champions Online. Unfortunately, I hate the direction it is currently heading in, so I am switching to COH. However, the one thing I really think CO does better than COH is give everyone a travel power at level 5. I'm sure some won't like it, but I think it will definitely help keep new players around longer.
Kheldians (who also get travel powers early) require you to get a power to 50 in order to play them
Sprint + swift is a decent travel power for low levels. Also there's ninja run (assuming you're willing to pay the $9.99 for the martial arts pack).
Then there are the safeguard missions, you can get a temp-fly power at level 5-10 that will last well into the 30s if you use it sparingly (2 hours of use). There is also a temp-leap power at 10-15 that lasts a likewise amount of time. (this costs no money)
Anyway, lots of ways to get travel time increases at low levels. -
Quote:Worse, I once saw a small group running around that was Willy Wonka and a bunch of oompa loompasthe first one is some kind of creepy. Could you imagine Reichsman's face when he get p0wned by the cast of Alice in Wonderland?
Riechsman: "The bunny.... the bunny... he did something... and then the hat did this thing.... it was with a tea bag.... OH DEAR GOD! I'll never be able to Un-see it all! The Horror!" -
Quote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRxqorKqqkcYeah, but I have no idea what that is, and couldn't be bothered to look it up, so didn't bother including it.
Hmm, the Prussian style outfits of the Centauri and the Narn outfits (not sure what they're based on) are pretty interesting too....not even considering the Vorlon encounter suits -
Would it be possible to tint the color of the dark elemental shield the way we can color everything else?

Quote:Space Opera, to me, are those space/future set stories that are just as much fantasy as sci-fi, if not more so, granted Babylon 5 doesn't match that really (pretty firmly sci-fi) but Star Wars certainly does.Space Opera isn't Bab5 and Star Wars (you whippersnapper). Space suits with fishbowl helmets, ray guns, and the Lens of Arisia (OK, that last would be a bit of a gamebreaker).
Renaissance: I'd be all for the one you describe (even though Dumas' novels are set well after the Renaissance - Count of Monte Cristo is post-Napoleonic, come to that) but would call it Swashbuckler. My dual blade Cyrano character would love a good hat with, of course, his white plume. I wouldn't mind a Renaissance costume set either: doublets, swept hilt rapiers, etc. -
Quote:I also included Minbari.I'd rather not have the devs give Lucas a reason to sic his lawyers on them.
I wasn't saying copy, just inspired. I could just as easily say "vaguely feudal Japanese themed layered robes" and it would work for both, but the picture given would have been different.
OH! You just reminded me of the other space opera I was trying to think of:
Flash Gordon
interesting space-civilization clothing there (again inspired by Asian themes with a unique touch to them) -
Quote:Well, tying it to the mission computer would make it harder for the individual player with no base and no SG be able to utilize their own enemy groups.something like this would be interesting, instead of a random contact why not make this sg oriented?
use the mish comp for the random things like:- find hidout of enemy (use sg base raid tp for this, or make a new tp that uses the raid tp look but goes to sg mishs)
- defend base from raiding enemy group (would be instanced and act like a mayhem, nothing in your base would actually be harmed)
- raid the enemy group (instanced mish with destroy objects/defeat bosses (objectve would be random and could be anything from stealing to killing enemies))
thoughts on that?
However, extending "personal enemy" (which probably works best with a contact and such) to "group enemy" for the mission computer might work. -
Quote:Ooo, that's a neat idea too.How about also an additional perma-contact whom you can call and will give you a 'random' mission starring your featured enemy. Random in the sense of like the newspaper missions are. Some base missions just filled in.
I suppose some people would feel like fighting Hellions (even Hellions that get progressively stronger) for 50 levels boring and like you're not advancing...but I also suppose that those people wouldn't likely choose Hellions as a personal enemy.
That would tend to be people that envision their characters as the sort street-level protector and want to continue fighting "smaller" crimes in addition to the big stuff.
Batman and Spider-Man rather than Green Lantern -
Thought it was about one specific idea based on the OP...
-
Give us the ability to name personal enemies as we gain in level.
The minimum, hopefully easier to code than I think, result of this would be dialogue.
When your character and the stated enemy group are near each other, the enemies spout off commentary about the hero.
Maybe the dialogue connects with the tracking of how many of each enemy group the player has killed that day (something already tracked, for those who still check the Top Ten kiosks).
"Ghost Heart has been really beating down us recently."
or
"There's been no sign of Ghost Heart recently, perhaps they've finally realized the futility and looked for a rock to hide under."
Perhaps even refer to missions that have included both you and your enemy group.
I suppose this could happen in missions as well as in live.
*****************
The stuff that would be nice/nasty depending on your attitude:
The enemy group builds up aggro against you faster than normal.
You're buffed against enemy/enemy buffed against you.
Small chance of ambushes from enemy groups when zoning.
When you're in the area, enemy groups might spawn whether they're normal for that area or not.
Devouring Earth: "Blood Rose is near...."
Enemy spawns created by your presence are even level to you with the same limits as ambushes or Void Hunter spawns attracted to Kheldians (no level 50 Hellions in AP, for example)
****************
Options: choose a title/appelation the enemy applies to you:
For my character Blood Rose:
Fifth Column/Council: The Anno woman
Devouring Earth: Traitor
Tsoo: Demon Changeling
***************
One enemy group at level 10
Second group at level 20
Third group at level 30
Fourth group at level 40
Fifth group at level 50 -
I'd like the option of basically placing a contact inside a mission. A character that isn't guarded by anyone and is just there to provide a clue.
Possibly even someone to walk up to and who talking to TRIGGERS the hostile attacks.
For instance: a mission involves a trip into Hades to speak to, well, Hades....talking to Hades triggers a spawn of monsters he wants to test you against. -
Space Opera:
Costume Pieces - Inspiration: Jedi and Minbari Robes, Stormtrooper Armor, Flight Suits
Custom Weapons - Beam Sabres can't do the even plasma blade of a lightsabre, but maybe something less flat than the vanguard pieces, Blasters
Feral:
Costume Pieces: New tails, fur-hats/tunics for those Kraven types
Animation Themes: Finger Claws
Custom Weapons: "Primitive" weapons: Bone Swords/Bone Axes
Victorian:
Costume Pieces: Inspiration - Sherlock Holmes, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,
Custom Weapons: Sword Canes, Early Revolvers
Western:
Costume Pieces: Ponchos, boots + spurs, leather vests, dusters (new style trenchcoat), Native American themes
Custom Weapons: early revolvers, winchester rifles, cavalry sabres, bowie knife, tomahawk
War:
Costume Pieces: more military pieces
Custom Weapons: Browning Assault Rifle, Tommy Gun as seen in WWII movies (clip rather than drum), Bayonets
Renaissance:
Costume Pieces: Three Musketeers, Count of Monte Cristo
Custom Weapons: Flintlocks, more variations of rapiers and sabres, epees, more daggers, some fancier historical axes
Personally, I have characters I want to have both a bayonet (WWI era) and a Bowie Knife, and I've long been irritated at the lack of brush-style tails which can be used to reproduce a large number of animals. -
Quote:I don't know, it works. If you could screen cap it and the line "is hidden" underneath the broken link text, it would be perfectBroken? Huh?
*makes another checkmark on the "Hidden" pun chalkboard*
It's a reference from the Naruto, dang it! A very vague reference apparently
.....
Edit: Oh my forum avatar! *sweatdrops* Ya, I tried to upload a pic, but the system isn't working for me. *shrugs* -
Quote:thanks, btw, am I the only one that see's Hidden Hero's avatar as broken?Looks like the first part of the "You Bow Down" emote but with weapon drawn.
Not the one that makes YOU bow, of course, but the one where you point at someone and then at the ground.
If not I'm wondering if it's deliberate..."Hidden Hero's avatar is hidden" ? -

Blood Rose is a human-plant hybrid characterized by green skin and some slight vampiric appearances in most of her forms. (Dark/Regen scrapper)
She is typically an enemy of the Council and 5th Column, also the Devouring Earth have a particular hatred for her(seeing her as a traitor). However, she has had at least one major run in with Crey.
They acquired her genetic material and attempted to use it for their Revenant program to create a crop of Paragon Protectors.
They found the microorganisms that fill Yumi's (BR's public ID) body but decided not to listen to staff warnings that they should not proceed with cloning until they knew more. They also failed to note the relationship between those organisms and the ones that infest the Devouring Earth. In addition, they were unaware that Yumi's precise DNA structure is prone to being altered frequently, and the cycle of mutation, under Yumi's mental control, is part of why normal cloning processes are dangerous with her.
Crey got three samples of Yumi's DNA in three different stages of her natural mutation cycle. None of the three samples were of a stable section of the cycle and weren't completely shifted.
The resultant clones were separate from the collective will/sentience of BR and her colony of microorganisms, and went berserk as a result acting on fragmentary memories from Yumi's past and personality make up. (see the AE arc: 113224 "A Rose's Thorns" for the incident in detail...one mission long).
Between the Blood Rose clones and the Devouring Earth that were attracted to the area, the crey facility was pretty much rendered a deadly jungle.
Since putting down that outbreak, Blood Rose and her family have been keen on making sure their genetic material doesn't get into Crey hands again.
Also, not sure whether it would mean anything or not, but Blood Rose is my oldest active character dating back to Beta-testing and pre-launch.

Quote:or allow those of us with characters that have non-human skin textures to go around without having to worry about some sicko trying to get a peek up their skirt and find there's nothing under there but skin. This one I like, because it's sort of like allowing characters to have their own tattoos regardless of costume pieces worn. To use the existing patterns as tattoos or to include new ones that resemble real tattoos, even if they're baked, untintable textures.
less of a problem for male characters, I suppose. -
I use it fairly regularly for paper and pencil character images and have let other players in the same game as I am futz around in the creator (assuming I know them RL, don't hand out my login to people, after all) to make their characters, still have a lot of relics from those screenie bait characters in various places.
-
Just curious.
How many other people out there use the character creator to make temporary characters especially for screenshots and to use as their character-portrait for Play-by-Post or Tabletop roleplaying? -
I used Genzoman from Deviantart.com for the cover of the novel I'm currently working on.
expensive and doesn't have paypal, but he does really really excellent work
http://genzoman.deviantart.com/ -
I recently made a fire/dark scrapper that I've decided would fit better to wait and build her as a brute since the mechanics of that AT fit her more.
Basically, she has a technique that basically causes her to convert a particular emotion into usable power. In her case the emotion is fear.
Basically, the more scared she gets, the more powerful she becomes. In addition, she tends to be rather selfless, she isn't really afraid of what could happen to her except in the way that would effect others. She's afraid of failing OTHER people and "allowing" them to be harmed. -
Knights - Medieval European warriors:
Minor Summon: march into view
2 man-at-arms (mace scrappers or brutes, upgrade to shield at first upgrade)
1 banner carrier (probably banner as a piece on the back instead of held, leadership, some broadsword attacks)
Summon: stalk out of the shadows crouched
2 archers (stealthy, bow powers, knife, upgrade to dual blade knives at first upgrade)
Major Summon: walk into view with weapon held out front (prefer horse gallop in and get off)
1 knight (greatsword or great axe, invulnerable)
Player Attacks:
Archery
Spartoi - Greco-Roman style warriors:
Minor Summons: grow out of the ground
3 spartoi - short swords, upgrade to regen abilities
Summons: grow from ants
2 myrmidons - shield and sword or, if we can get some experimenting, spear, maybe fear with upgrade
Major Summons: slow activation, from kneeling to standing
1 talos - iron/bronze statue
Player Attacks:
Spear Throw
Samurai - Japanese style warriors
Minor Summons: charge forward
2 ashigaru soldiers - (spear would be nice) Wakizashi wielding
1 ashigaru gunner - flintlock rifle/musket
Summons: appear and bow
2 armored samurai - katana/invulnerability, bows for secondary
Major Summons: sitting seiza and standing slowly
1 kensai - Katana/Wakizashi dual blade combined with either willpower or reflexes
Player Attacks
Archery
Actually, if Power Customization themes were extended to Mastermind, the above could be shifted into one powerset: Warriors, with three themes:
Minor Summons: (man-at-arms, ashigaru, spartoi)
Summons: (ranger, samurai, myrmiddon)
Major Summons (knight, kensai, talos)
problem with that being then the unique attitudes of the sets would be lost
Sensei (uncertain how to make the different levels unique here besides just being stronger)
Minor Summons: bow and enter stance
3 students
Summons: bow and enter stance
2 disciples
Major Summon: bow and enter stance with Bruce Lee bring it wave
1 protege
Player Attacks:
Shuriken
Wild Hunt/Beastmaster - animal-style summons
Minor Summons: come in and howl
3 hunters - werewolf style summons, small/thinner types not hulking warwolves (would prefer actual wolves, but no non-humanoids yet)
Summons: leap in and crouch
2 wildcats - big-cat themed creatures (again would prefer actual cats, but will take cat-men)
Major Summons: swoop down
1 raptor - prefer a hawk/eagle, but a winged and taloned warrior is acceptable
player attacks:
archery
Ice Master
Minor Summons: imp-style summon, pop out of ground and spin
3 ice sculptures - thinking jack frost or fire-imp similar
Summons: appear and howl
2 yeti - stealth + strength
Major Summons: as jack frost
1 winter spirit - cold domination/ice control, minimal ice blast
Player Attacks
ice blast
Fire Master
Minor Summons: fire-imps, basically
3 imps: maybe slightly different attacks and avatar to set different from fire control
Summons: stalk into view
2 salamanders: fire-breathing lizards
Major Summons: Swoop down
1 phoenix - winged warrior fire blast/fire control
Player Attacks
fire blast
Electrical Master
Minor Summons: spark out of the air
3 sparks - similar to targetable voltaic sentinels
Summons: appear out of nowhere
2 lightning warriors - warriors made out of lightning
Major Summon: pulled from area and coalesces
1 thunder beast - ogre-ish lightning creature
Player Attacks
Electrical Blast
Hive Master (again would prefer actual giant insects, but insect men would do)
Minor Summons: burrow out of the ground
3 soldiers - insect/ant men
Summons: swoop down and hover
2 wasps - flying insect men
Major Summons: Leap forward and crouch
1 scorpion - know there's no appropriate tail, but still, a huge scorpion man
Player Attacks
Spines -
Quote:or customizable weapons with effects related to color of the weapon,Perhaps it would be possible to make these powers have two versions: one with customizable colors without a weapon, and one with customizable weapons but with static colors. That way only one aspect of the power is customizable at the same time, until they get around to fixing that. I assume it's on the list to fix.
but still, I wasn't looking at customizable weapons for power sets, just extra themes.
So for Fire blast you could have:
flamethrower theme
fire wand theme
fire staff theme
etc.... -
Quote:No fire katana........?I believe it could be done, but it would have ramifications on balance.
Adding customizeable weapons to power customization is another story.
;_;
I was just thinking of it as a seperate theme, sort of like you have scimitar or great sword right now.
