There is no lasting change in Marvel or DC.

You have people that have been handed masterpieces that they do not truly understand and are trying to desperately figure out why their handling of it isn't as popular as when it first came out.

It's like giving Mozart's sheet music to someone with as little musical talent as myself who knows that it's a masterpiece, but can't make heads or tails of how to read it and decides to just copies bits and pieces of it in different order and see if maybe that will work.

You used blue as an adjective 4 times in the very first paragraph. Azure, cerulean, midnight. all shades of blue without using the same word twice. And on a much more subjective side, don't like the cover. Too anime. Now if that's what you were going for then cool but i think it might limit the "curb appeal".
Well, yes, the cover is on purpose. I tend to hope that GENZOMAN's work is a half-way measure between the two, plus I sort of enjoy some of that sort of story-telling. Plus, while it might limit the curb appeal, so would any other style I chose.

As to the senses thing, I hadn't really considered it myself. I do make a lot of use of emotional feelings almost as a sense, and the sense of touch fairly often given her tendency not to like being touched. Scent I haven't used much. Hmmm...

    Hearing does get used.

well have to consider the scent thing

however, I still wouldn't change the intro, I like it the way it is. But will think about it for the next. Lu isn't one to put on perfumes despite her other trends toward femininity. Too much chance of being tracked based on that scent.

There is a word for people like that. A pre-packed fluffy-feeling word the government’s spin doctors had come up with.

    Peak.

Lucretia had her own words for her peer group: freaks of nature, science projects, and fanatics. They were all the people that had been born, transformed or self-willed into something that should have been bizarre, but was becoming less so.

All she wanted to do was live an unnoticed life in her brownstone, working at the library and chasing down idiot cops who took her books on stakeouts.

Of course, there are problems with that, such as the fact that she's considered an interesting research specimen by some of the more amoral companies. Her tendency to stick her nose in where it probably shouldn't be. A love-hate relationship with various alcoholic beverages.

Oh yes, and the fact that she's still on parole.

I will be at Dragon's Lair October 2nd in San Antonio, Tx at Fredericksburg and Medical near the crossroads of Loop 410 and I10 doing some local promoting of my novel by doing a book signing if anybody in the area is interested in coming by and checking it out.

I was just going to put this on my previous plug for the novel, but it's buried so deep, I don't feel particularly bad about putting a new thread up.

No, the author was pretty blatant about the original DBZ being a retelling of Journey to the West (written 14th-16th century forget when exactly), which itself is a collection and retelling of even older myths and legends.

Goku is even the name given to Sun Wukong in the Japanese translations of Journey to the West.

They base their stories on their past mythologies just like we do.

Superman is simply an extension of Sigurd or Heracles or other such great heroes.

Batman is an extension of the myth of the clever hero on the path of righteous revenge such as Odysseus.

Our stories are the product of our culture which is the product of past stories, experienced, told or read.

Journey to the West, one of the four classic Chinese novels along with Romance of the Three Kingdoms

one of the central characters is Sun Wukong, aka Old Monkey, aka the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, aka Handsome Monkey, aka The Monkey King

He is born from a stone and leads the monkeys around him to settle a kingdom and fights off or establishes allegiances with the demons, tigers and monsters nearby before going off for a time and seeking the secrets of enlightenment from a sage.

Then death comes for him and he fights his way off, invades Hell and erases his name and the name of many of his generals from the books of Hell insuring that they will live forever. Then he acquires the rod that was used to measure out the oceans and rivers from the dragons, terrorizing them in the process.

He causes so much trouble that heaven sends down a representative to invite Old Monkey to become a minor functionary in hopes that it will calm him down, but he doesn't want to be a minor functionary (takes care of the Jade Court's stables) and wants to be equated to the highest of titles and causes no end of trouble in heaven, rebuffing all the gods and immortals, stealing the peaches of immortality and drinking of them, ruining the holy peach festival and breaking the walls of heaven and defeating the armies of heaven

It isn't until the Jade Emperor calls upon the help of Buddha that Old Monkey is finally humbled and trapped under five elements mountain until such time as the seeker for the scrolls should come by at which time, Monkey was to become his disciple and aid him in his quest to the West for the holy scriptures.

In DBZ, the stone egg is replaced by the capsule, the first master (who wanted Sun Wukong never to tell who trained him for fear of the embarrassment of being connected to the monkey) is Master Roshi....Bulma is the replacement for the holy monk seeking the scriptures which are replaced by the dragon balls (which also replace the holy peaches of immortality). Other characters are further replaced, such as the bandit from the sea of sand. And the pig.

Journey to the West is fairly analogous to Western tradition's Labor's of Heracles, the Argonauts or perhaps the Odyssey.

    Oh, btw....

I've seen an awesome dissertation on Trigun as a study on Christianity, and, having watched the show, I would have to say it is one of the few animes that gets Christianity down fairly well. At least in the philosophy of the main character, the actually priests are less faithful.

Have you actually watched Naruto, or only watched the fans of Naruto?

Because Naruto himself is a very iconic character that stands for some pretty high ideals and is quite a bit more complex than many of the fans make him out to be.

Superman is the same, most of the fans just think he's awesome because of what he can do. The people that can go into detail analyzing him and the metaphor he represents are in the minority, though a large number of the first set of fans can find and discuss the analysis to appear otherwise.

Iconic means that its a character that can be recognized right away. Superman is iconic to those of us brought up in places where he appears and is popular, but he is not universally so.

Goku is iconic (though I'm not particularly fond of Dragonball)

    Ranma Saotome is pretty recognizable

    Belldandy from Oh My Goddess

    Vash the Stampede from Trigun

    Sailor Moon

    Dante from Devil May Cry

there are numerous anime icons...just because you don't recognize them does not make them so

also, I'm also someone who lost interest in DC and Marvel due to their insistence on never advancing the story. Changes and developments in character are negated by the next writer whose own developments are only just getting started when he's replaced and then they're negated and the cycle starts again.

I am not interested in story by committee.

Give me one author with a clear beginning, middle and end.

Then, if you want a sequel, move on to a sequel, don't just keep telling the story about Batman...we should be telling the story of Batman's heir's heir, whether by blood or otherwise.

Spiderman and Mary Jane should have passed into retirement years ago.

Instead they persist in keeping Spiderman an angsty teen (no matter what his physical years) with no personal growth that isn't negated a few seasons of issues down the road.

anime didn't ruin comics for me....I went to anime and manga because most big name Western comics were unsatisfying and formulaic. The artistry of the early storylines is gone, replaced by boards of executives collaborating with writers about which fad they can exploit this print run.

It is SOOO fun to pass up people that took super speed

    ****************************************

Anyway, I'd like to see new animations/power customizations for the travel powers we do have

the slide surface for superspeed, for example, it would be Iceman, but it would be Frozone

Teleport seems the most ripe for this, I've seen this power used to duplicate tunneling in the past, so an "explode from dirt" version of the animation....or a burst in flames....or a step sideways

One thing (that is probably way to specific) is something I've considered with one of my characters: the Undevoured Blood Rose...have her blow a seed in one direction, leave the current body to wither behind her and have a new one grow up out of the seed....disturbing, maybe, but interesting

This comes down to "if you don't like don't take it"

power sets aren't a base concept, they're methods expressing a base concept

dark melee for example I have seen rationalized as the following:

the powers of a vampiric human-plant hybrid (a DE who didn't go insane)
    anti-matter producing gloves
training in pressure points and dim mak
a mix of martial arts and smoke magic

and likewise, there is nothing on any of those that says you can't fly

if I'm a demonic creature who uses dark-melee, there's nothing to say I can't have wings, for example, or just levitate

    Quote:
I'd have no problem is there was 'teleport combat', if fact I'd only choose teleport as a travel power for that spec. The whole point is a character in game somehow can teleport at will in addition to his completely unrelated powers, and only ever uses in one instance seems weird.
Nightcrawler doesn't have combat teleport, he has teleport, wall-crawling and blending and uses those to enhance his martial arts and gymnastic ability, IE, his combat "powers" are completely unrelated to his mutant powers, for this game, that would be:

Martial Arts or (probably more appropriate) Dual Blades (rapier and main gauche)
    Super Reflexes
    Stealth Pool
    Teleport Pool

lots of characters have seemingly unrelated powers in comics, the idea of a character having "one power" that is the source of all their other abilities is not the only way to do things

Another example of a character where their combat "powers" are unrelated to their mutant powers: Angel

his mutant power is that he has wings, period...that's it

    he flies

combat wise, he would be something like martial arts or super strength to represent martial arts ability, with super reflexes on top...both supposed to represent training

concept does not bend to powerset

    powerset bends to concept
  16. Additional commands:

Fight from position/Fight at range - the Nem sniper AI, orders pets not to chase but to stay where they are and fight with their ranged weapons (or melee if something gets close) only

Set Leash - set how far pets are allowed to wander from where they are ordered to be after they've gone active so, if they're following you, they won't chase anything past, say 20ft away from you...same if you order them to wait at a certain point and set them to defensive

With Aim/BU counting as those, so you'll only get Soul Drain or Dark Consumption, with the other one replaced by some form of PBAoE attack. Perhaps a toned-down version of Blackstar like happened with Psychic Assault.
Soul Drain and Dark Consumption are both 10-15 PBAoE attacks...I use them primarily for damage all the time on my Dark/Regen

  19. Okay, supposedly, I20 is so super-secret you have to have a hand signed NDA to get into the beta.

That said, some interesting ideas that I've heard are due to mechanical/programming issues...or else other long asked things...or just things I think I'd like to see:

Mastermind pet customization (including female pets) - I'm hearing that this is a technical issue not the popular "no pimps" rumor

Animated hair - which would be AWESOME

Multiple Arms - a la Hindu/Kali...Spinnerette...etc...either as just a costume piece or as a power set...this would be a LOT of work, and the costume piece would probably be better since that lets us do multi-armed sorcerers and the like...the reason it would be a lot of work...new animations...this would almost have to be a fourth build

New builds - female huge, beastial

New enemy models - dinosaurs, guard dogs, birds and SHARKS

Zones - Moon Base or Underwater adventures

but I hear I20 is supposed to involve revolutionary systems....so probably something else

It is safe to say Devs know better then to open that can of worms and have stated many times NO. If they ever do it they will do it. Quit beating the zombified horse.
And yet it was okay in beta for me to have a female mastermind named "Satyr Nau" with Minion names "Wil" and "Mustu" among others whose backstory was:

"Well, someone got mad at me over something to do with someone they liked and they sent this ninja to kill me over it. But after that first night, he decided to serve me instead. So they sent someone else and he liked me better than killing me too...and so did the next person and the next...and then there were all these sisters and wives and stuff and finally this old guy who was supposed to be the master came to 'free his clan' which I guess meant giving them over to me."

so, what you're basically saying is

It's okay when its Female on Male or male on male for that matter.

    *sniff*

    I want windowsills in Praetoria.

    I can't do wall-climbing there! I just slide off.

The windowsill bounce is a key part of all my swift/hurdle/ninja run set of travelers and the closest thing we have in the game to wall crawling.

And the evil Praetorians have taken it away by apparently outlawing all window sills!

We must fight for our right to window sills!
