I'm not worried about a population overage. As a being's life span approaches immortal, their reproduction rate approaches zero.

But I wonder if Woodrow Wilson Howard is somehow involved in this...
assuming this doesn't extend the reproductive window, what you'd see is people from ages 20-40 being supported by their 100+ year old family members and starting a new family until they're past child rearing years and really ready to get started working

ie, having babies would be a REALLY young adult thing

however, since the attitudes that's causing the population drop in many higher-tech societies won't go away over night, it would take some time...and women won't likely be happy if they got told "have kids until your 40" even if men got told the same.

it won't be true immortality of course, injury and some illness would still be an issue, as well as genetic defects

also, they don't note the fact that the longer the lifespan, the greater the chance of developing cancer

This run of binds has 7 costume/file set shifts; some on main-use powers 1-4; 4 chat commands; and 5 random shifts to the "Wading"/"Standard" behavior

A similar line from the tndrst21.txt through tndrst29.txt for the behavior shift looks like this:

    Quote:
Originally Posted by Wading to Annoyed behavior command

note, again, when shifting to annoyed, follow is included

At level 3 in tndran31.txt through tndran39.txt, there are, comparatively 15 lines that involve switching to one of the standard files including "Target nearest enemy" in each command

15 out 90 basic 1-0 activation commands, not including alts and ctrls (including several on the 27 commonly used lines for powers 1-4) makes her very erratic, sometimes switching opponents on the first attempt to attack an opponent I've designated

at that level, I basically try to make sure my target is the only thing on the screen if possible....if there is no critical target, then I just give her her lead

On the tndrst31.txt through tndrst39.txt there are 26 instances where she shifts from wading to annoyed, meaning she's MUCH more likely to get focused away from wading than to go from annoyed to wading...each of those 26 instances does contain a follow command

    as to the buffer files: tndrst1a.txt, tndrst1b.txt, tndrst2a.txt, tndrst2b.txt, tndrst3a.txt, tndrst3b.txt

they all look essentially the same:

hitting alt-2 (my rage button) here shifts to tndrst1b.txt hitting alt-2 there goes to tndrst11.txt

meaning I can choose to artificially advance through the buffer simply by double tapping alt-2, or I can let rage actually be recharged twice and use alt-2 naturally, or I can use the mouse instead of the keyboard and prevent the file from advancing at all

this is to both slow down the rate of injury and to prevent the bind files attempting a costume change in the 30-second no-change window

To start the sequence over again:

there are 68 total mostly identical files controlling her behavior, if I wanted to extend he erratic behavior to the buffer period, then I'd have to add more. When I add the 4th and 5th costume slot, I will add 22 files (11 wading, 11 annoyed) each time so the grand total number of files will be 112.

at level 4 I'm probably going to continue about the same level of behavior switching as 3 (perhaps increase it to 20 annoyed->wade and 30 wade->annoyed) but also add in random inspiration usage replacing a normal power use...she is already an inspiration hog, but currently I am deciding what to use at least

I'll probably embed 4-7 inspiration pop commands (need to look those up)

at level 5 I'll build on that and design it so:

    just for fun

I get character whims and run with them...and needed a break from work for a bit

One line I'm associating with her right now is "Don't worry, I'm pretty sure its mostly my blood."

Natural Brute started Praetoria, currently in Paragon, basically a good person, but with a really bad temper and inexplicable levels of strength.

No genetic differences, no science accident or magical gift...she just gets mad and people are soon tossed thereafter.

And yeah, the character was inspired by Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara!! who tends to get a slasher smile when he's starting to get angry

my thoughts are that her idea is that the best way she can avoid hurting decent people is to deal with people that are either deserving of her wrath or able to handle it

and I've been itching to play a knockback heavy melee for a LONNNG time

hmm, actually figured out the string of inspiration

    watched Durarara!!

lots of fun watching the Shizuo character toss people around

remembered my own few experiences tossing people around in early CoH with an SS tank

rolled up Tender, tweaked her out from looking like a female Shizuo to being that first one above

played around with a bloody version for a second costume, planned it to be her "strength of will" mode...costumes linked to desperation defenses is nothing new for me, have had lots of characters with powers linked to a costume change emote

realized that the heavy knockback playstyle would be easier if I had "target nearest enemy" bound up with my 1-0 keys

put in the option of switching to a normal targeting thing (no target commands in the power buttons) and keyed with a follow

borrowed an old bind file set up I had with a character to rotate her battle cries and pithy-in-combat comments

and thus I have the above project

  5. Here's a cut vid of the change over from uninjured to 1 to 2:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pDPYW2ye_Y

on average, there's 7-9 minutes between costume changes

As of yet, Tender is only level 27, but this the planned progression of battle damage for her. Injury level 2 and 3 use red sparks (combat only for 2) for bleeding. Level 4 and 5 will use clunker path for major bleeding (4 will be combat only)

In addition, the bind files used to control when and how often she downgrades from one level to the next include shuffling some of the keyboard commands so that she starts behaving erratically the longer she's played

starting from initial, it takes two uses of rage (by keyboard, not mouse) before she starts getting into the files that will possibly take her from one level to the next

when she's in that part of the programing she starts to chat

what she says depends on what behavior she's currently exhibiting

if she's wading (switching targets), it's general things like "Who's next"

if she's annoyed (focused and following), it's specific like "Are you a flea, $target?"

At uninjured state, she only switches behavior when I press the "H" key

At level 2, she occasionally switches behavior, but it is uncommon to rare

again, there are two buffer files to prevent immediate moving from one costume to the next, triggered on rage

given rage recharges in roughly 3-4 minutes, that means there's a long period when she stays in the new level of injury.

at level 3, I've found the only sure way to make sure she's hitting what I want her to hit is if that is the only target on the screen and in range

also, at level 3, she has started to mix the two basic behaviors into a third.

what'll happen is that she'll get annoyed, triggering a "Follow" command and then switch to wading, meaning she hit whatever is nearest to her, while still following the original target

assuming I give her her lead and she doesn't just switch annoyance to a new target, this results in her pausing in the chase, smashing something, going back to the chase, pause, smash, back to chase, until she reaches her original target and starts smashing him

given the tendency this has of causing a long string of things chasing her, I've called it the "Benny Hill" behavior

    Level 4 and 5 don't exist yet

I plan for level 4 to include random inspiration popping and for level 5 to include shuffling keyboard commands more, such that pressing the button for power 1 triggers power 5 or some other mismatch

or, IE: "I'm going to kick this g...or hand clap everyone away, that works"

The erratic behaviors only exist in the (currently) 68 files I use to control her in solo mode

the 34 I use for team mode use only the costume change, no behavior switch, no chat
  6. Quote:
Originally Posted by That_Ninja View Post

Actually, I've long thought about suggesting IO sets that include a damage-type conversion enhancement...rather than a simple "Chance of"

but don't know enough about their coding to know if its feasible

though given that that's probably more feasible than my wish for a multi-armed male and female models...
  7. anyway, the combat log says the proc works in that power

and apparently while typing that last response, banished pantheon people were pounding on her....to no result

also, her team-mode removes the erratic behavior...since there is no behavior I don't control, I also remove the chat binds I designed for her to tell me whether she's annoyed or wading: "Who's next!?" and assorted other comments for wading..."Are you a flea, $target?" and assorted other comments for annoyed

at each level of change (only 3 levels right now, will add two more as costumes become available), I've got about 3 lines of chat embedded in each set of 11 bind files, so the chat isn't common

however, key 6 has moved from unusual to frequent, so will probably have to remap some things....currently, she's upgrading levels every 5 minutes or so
  8. yeah, I'm not having any trouble maintaining fury even after slotting the power

and the extra survivability is nice since I've introduced some artificial difficulty into my solo-key-binds, the longer I fight, the more erratic and berserkery Tender gets if I'm playing on solo mode (haven't played team yet)

her two basic behaviors I've called "wading" where she'll just hit whatever is in reach (the 1-0 keys include commands to attack nearest target) and "annoyed" which is focus on one target, only change when that target is dead or I tell her too, and that mode starts with a follow command

initially, she only switches behaviors when I tell her to (though I'm noticing some follow commands got left in where they shouldn't be)

eventually, she starts switching between the behaviors occasionally

by the end of a mission, she switches behaviors a lot

in fact, this has accidentally created a third behavior where she follows someone she was annoyed with (eventually making it closest target) but still targets and hits whatever is closest so when I queue an attack (or when I think I'm queuing an attack) she turns around and smacks someone before continuing the chase

sometimes this causes her to change follow targets too

I've called this third behavior "Benny Hill" since it tends to produce a large number of people chasing after her

I also deliberately have her solo build knockback heavy and am deliberately playing berserker mentality....meaning she tends to aggro more than she intelligently should

this usually is why I die solo, but they are awesome deaths surrounded totally by massive numbers of enemies

currently, she's 27 at -1 x6, as I get stronger I've been upgrading numbers first, since my goal is large groups rather than tough enemies, I just upgraded to -1x6, but that's starting to look too easy too

    we'll see

earlier today I was on -1 x5 and aggroed what looked to be three groups of even level council and had to use inspirations in some points but otherwise held....

    ehhh
  9. really, this game has always been easy...the devs erred on the wrong side of the mark and made the game really, really easy to begin with which is one of the reasons so many nerfs happened in the early days

I mean, at level 22, a troller with all SOs can solo more than effectively if they play smart...and I mean to the point of taking on open-world spans in IP and Terra Volta
  10. and meanwhile, I'm wishing my SS brute was capable of more knockback....at 25 all my attacks have at least 1.42 mag KB, but wish I could have more

and really wish haymaker did more kb than punch without reducing punch, but in order to do that, they'd have to increase the base beyond knockdown, which will annoy people

sigh....I'll have to make due with the subpar KB

Iconic isn't a specific design attitude.

Iconic are those costumes that virtually define the character.

the recharge debuff would help a little bit, assuming its effective...I'm not really worried about one on one's yet....most of the time I get down to a single boss, I'm good...haven't started thinking about gearing for AVs (she's 20 right now)

Additionally, if you decide to spend the inf, go for the uncrafted recipes instead of crafted. You could save a ton of money that way. Patience is key here, as well as a willingness to go for pieces that may be a level or 2 below the target level you are planning for. 27-30 or 26-30 is becoming my standard (just got 2 level 29 Damage/Recharges this morning for 5 1/2 million each, and their enhancement values are only a mere .3% less than level 30s, of which the last 3 sold for 33 million.)
huh, hadn't thought of spreading the shopping around

unfortunately, I stretch my time to do 5 missions, and usually don't even sign on

so right around 10 days then

just know the prices on the auctionhouse are in the 150mils

was looking at gathering some for a friend recently, ended up harvesting my unused recipes in my characters to send him

invention stations in universities sell them

you can sometimes get them for less of a price from the auction house, but usually better not to risk...careful with that 50, that's enough to make you think you've got a lot

You'll do fine with regular SOs if you want to save your cash. (With Tip missions though, there isn't much reason to be short on cash). Simple slotting with IOs or IO sets will work for now if you want to start learning the system. But save the really expensive stuff for later, after you've learned more and decided for yourself what to do. It's nothing you have to tackle right away.
yeah, don't try to save up the millions(billions?) to get a complete Kinetic Combat set until you know for sure it will help your build

    as just one example

    small misunderstanding

IOs are still good to buy, just not absolutely necessary

also you will save money in the long run if you buy IOs at level 30+ and then just save up, because IOs will never degrade

if low on money, just go for common IOs and SOs

if you've got some money on hand or picked up some good recipes, "Frankenslotting" is a good option

for example, take the Dam/Acc from two different sets, Dam/Rec from two different sets and Acc/End from two different sets

and with that (depending on the level of IO you buy) you have the about the same as taking 4 Acc SOs, 4 Dam SOs, 1 Rec SO and 1 End SO, perhaps a little bit higher, in fact

small misunderstanding...I didn't say don't buy IOs, I said the priority is on your slotting stats

IE, rather than look at a set for what set-bonuses it gets early on, look to see what sort of enhancements get you the best stats

for example, you could get Dam/Acc, Dam/Acc, Dam/Rec, Dam/Rec, Acc/End, Acc/End from two different sets and you'd end up with overall better stats than if you just did the normal Accx2, Damx3, Rec
