People have been suggesting email/offline SG invites pretty much since Day One.
I'll bet this has always been in the top ten most wanted things since the beginning of the game.
Why we don't have it yet continues to amaze me...
Now that the code is in place to email people things like INF and recipes it would seem like the ability to email an SG invite to another character would be almost trivial.
/signed as always.

I'd just suggest getting "more hairstyles" in general.
Odds are if the Devs just randomly gave us a bunch of new styles we'd get a mix that would appeal to wider range of players regardless. Remember there are players from all around the world who play this game so to focus in on only one "type" of hairstyle doesn't make much sense. There are only so many obvious hairstyles out there in the world - some of the new ones would likely have to draw from many different sources and be what various people are looking for.

Qualities such as selfishness might be considered negative if they are taken to absolute extremes. But a basic component of the human ego is the need to assert itself and protect itself. If machines can be ingrained with the working concept of selfishness and a means to act on that desire (via the ability to deceive) then they would develop a functional degree of self preservation and by extension a degree of self awareness.
Obviously that has uses in a combat situation (a machine that doesn't "want" to be hurt will probably function more dynamically than a machine that has no real sense of self) but clearly this research will further contribute to the overall impending Technological Singularity in general.
The real trick won't be making selfish robots.
It'll be making them just selfish enough to be productive members of society without being sociopathic.

I'll add my voice to the "stances in this game should have been handled like they did them in CO" crowd. This game is superior to CO in many ways, but one of the few things that game still does better is its stances.

What we got here last month are really nothing more than "motionless emotes" and they suffer all the restrictions other emotes suffer in this game. They are better than nothing, but as pointed out trying to use them in binds is problematic at best. There's really no way to cleanly do things like the auto "Hover+Stance" bind without cheating it.
Also on the related note hopefully we'll get a choice of pose options with the travel powers eventually.
-
Frankly I'd be happy enough with myself that you've managed to trick out the bind system to get it to do something even remotely close to what you want. Getting a bind to preform (relatively) complex character motion automatically is definitely venturing into territory the Devs never intended the bind system to allow. The Devs intentionally gimped the capabilities of the bind system in order to prevent anyone from easily boting and/or exploiting the game. For all we know the "spiraling" effect you are seeing is itself a subtle anti-exploit measure.
I suspect the only way you'll ever get your binds to do anything closer to what you want you're going to have to stumble over some kind of weird emote interaction/side-effect that won't be clearly obvious. If you do manage it I think your "solution" would most likely be worthy of a Bug Hunter badge, assuming you let the Devs know what you figured out.

Obviously as a player who has to pay for this game to begin with I'd like to get as much content as possible without having to pay extra for it. If I didn't feel that way I would probably think there was something wrong with me.

On the other hand the people making/maintaining this game are in it as a business whose primary goal is to maximize profits. Frankly if they were making this game and NOT figuring out ways to make as much money from it as possible I would think there was something wrong with them.
Sure people are always going to whine and moan about optional microtransactions like this and there will always be people who think they aren't worth the extra money or are somehow bad/evil in some shape or form. But seriously folks, the argument that microtransactions shouldn't happen in MMOs in general sailed at least 5 years ago if not longer. Get over yourselves with this.
It's a fact of gaming life now. Sure we can complain about the details of how a company offers them, but they are never going to go away at this point. Did the Devs ultimately tack on this bushy tail to the Mutant Pack just to make it more appealing to buy? Of course they did - no point in acting like it was some kind of shocking "dirty trick" or something. *shrugs* -
Quote:I just find it amazing that so many people can play this game for so many years and have completely different experiences with different aspects of the GUI. In 6+ years I never knew you could double click that button and go straight to the management screen. Obviously by the same token I guess I've never "misclicked" it and gotten the unintended results you mention either. *shrugs*I have mine bound to O. I used to have it bound to I for Inventory, but I decided to move my out-of-combat binds one key right on the keyboard, so it shifted to O.
The double click function has always been more annoying than it has been helpful, because I've almost always only ever used it on a misclick. And to boot, the first click doesn't even have to be on a menu item. Try that some time - click on the world somewhere and then quickly click on Enhancements. It'll still take you to the Enhancements Management screen. It's like the system only counts "time since previous click" and "current click on Enhancements," with no regard where the previous click was.
Almost invariably, I'll open the Management screen by accident because I accidentally missed the Enhancements button, corrected and clicked it once.
I also initially thought it was funny to learn that anyone would ever bother to keybind the "/manage" command to get to that screen. Of course right after I thought that I remembered that I've had the "/info" screen command bound to a key for years. Go figure.

A mere 25 years? That's nothing...
The first versions of Spacewar! were developed as far back as the early 60s.

Quote:Actually news of this kind of research, or that it comes from a place like the Georgia Institute of Tech, doesn't really surprise me at all.Always knew it would be my father's almuni that would doom us all.
Didn't expect it to come in the form of killer robots though.
At this point I consider the Technological Singularity as a practical inevitability.
The only thing that's really uncertain is exactly how long it's going to take. *shrugs* -
Well I don't know what AT/powerset combo might be the hardest to face in an Army of Me 8-clone scenario, but I can report an encounter that was strangely trivial. I took my level 50 Fire/Rad Controller (fully Purple IO'd) through the Ouroboros version of that mission and she managed to kill all 8 of her clones in literally about one minute. I don't really know if I should be happy about that or not.

Basically all I did was pop my big Accolade powers (Demonic/Force of Nature), drop a breakfree and Smoked them first. When I charged in I simply managed to hold most of them with my AoE Mez powers and let my Imps/Hot Feet chew through them.
It was all soberingly anticlimactic to say the least.

Quote:You people really need to redefine the term exploit. You toss the term around way to loosely. Do you even care that you are basically just calling your own friends/teammates/fellow players a bunch of cheaters? The definition I would use for an "exploit" in this game is doing something that achieves a goal or reward that is clearly contrary to the intent of the game system. In this case using a method to get a badge/power that you are supposed to wait 7 days for in any amount of time LESS than 7 days is indeed an exploit.Quote:To be honest, being told its fine and then later being called a cheater gets very old very fast.
Now I think the problem your struggling with is whether or not a given exploit is actually "game breaking" or not. It's not enough to just label something an exploit black or white. You have to take it in the same context the Devs are going to consider it as far as how critical it is. In the case of this 7 day wait deal I'm quite sure of two things, 1) it's something the Devs did not want people to take advantage of but 2) it was a relatively minor enough problem that the Devs let it exist for several weeks without a quick hotfix or major rollback of the game. Think of how quick this exploit would have been fixed if it allowed your level 1 characters to become level 50 with the push of a button.
Obviously there are people like yourself who take the position that "if the game lets me get away with X then X should not be considered an illegal activity". Well that rationalization can only be taken so far. Just because the Devs don't fix something instantaneously doesn't mean they don't like people doing it and doesn't mean they won't ever fix it.
Basically this 7 day wait thing was a minor problem that was going to be fixed regardless because it was a very obvious fixable problem. Just because problems like this were found in beta and not acknowledged by the Devs does not strictly give you a pass to use them. But by the same token is anyone who used this relatively trivial exploit going to be punished? Of course not. Have badgers used all sorts of loopholes and exploits in the past and will they continue to use them in the future? Of course they will. But does any of that technically make it right? Of course not, it just makes them things you got away with.
Stop looking at this thing in such black and white terms. Being a "cheater" in a game like this is a relative thing. *shrugs* -
For now, at least.

The first mission of the new level 40-45 hero Ouroboros arc called The Instant Army is full of the new Praetorian Clockwork so Primal Earthers getting that badge (Technophobe) is fairly easy right now. But because the Blindsider badge is currently tedious to get and Resistance Is Futile seems broken for now I'm going to wait until I19 for both of those when they should be not only possible but semi-trivial to get. -
This bug allowing people to bypass the 7 day wait for the alignment power/badges really only annoyed me on the general "yet another stupid bug the Devs didn't deal with during beta" level. The specific issue concerning these badges themselves was fairly unimportant all things considered.
Like I said in an earlier post by the time September 14th gets here it will no longer be clear or relevant whether a person with all 4 alignment badges got them "properly" or not. -
Quote:Correct, either activity seems to artificially accelerate the 7-day waiting period and the badge awards (assuming, as noted above, the toon has completed the appropriate morality mission).
Unless it's been stealth-fixed in the past couple of patches (nothing stated explicity in either patch notes about this issue).Normally the Devs don't publish exploit fixes in patch notes but apparently they decided to make an exception for this. In the latest Test Server patch notes they specifically state they've found and fixed the "bug" allowing this to happen. *shrugs*Quote:a Fix like that wouldn't go into the patch notes.
Developers policy is not to list exploit fixes in the notes. -
Quote:Yes this was a great run and just wanted to thank everyone involved. We also had a few kins spamming transfusion, which helps.
The important thing is to get a wave of debuffs on the aspect JUST BEFORE his shield comes up. Best way to do this is to debuff him constantly, of course, but anyone with a decent sense of timing should have their debuffs ready at that time to prevent the AV from regening too much health or doing too much damage.
I was there with my Fire/Rad Controller. I kept my Radiation Infection/Enervating Field toggles on the AV as much as possible, especially when his shield was down. I also dropped Shivans, spammed my Lingering Radiation (my main -Regen power) and threw 28 Envenomed Daggers (-250% Regen) at him. Sure that power only lasts a few seconds but since we only have 30 seconds per shield drop to hurt him that's really not that bad. Hopefully all that helped the cause.
All in all it was a great experience.

While it's obviously good this little exploit was corrected (from the point of view of the powers) I suspect that any avid badge collector who'd care to make use of that "trick" to get the associated badges without waiting has already done so. This is a classic case of closing the barn door after the cows have already gotten out. *shrugs*

Quote:As I've said before, I'd like to see a MoCoP SG get a permanent IoP that requires a click to renew every 2 days of in-game in order to have the buff.
Not a chance MoCoP will happen until an IO'd out SG, semi-intelligent members, and Rularuu is fixed.People have to understand that the IoP concept is so old it even predates the market and IOs of any kind. It would never fit into the context of the current state of the game balance wise. The Devs purged the game of IoPs years ago. The Devs effectively removed the concept of base raids years ago. The reworked CoP trial we got in I18 no longer has any connection to PvP in any way, shape or form.Quote:Yea I'd sure like to see a non-steal-able one cuz if you lose the base raid all that effort goes to waste!
The IoP concept has evolved into the special temp powers the CoP trial now provides. They are no longer physical things that SGs can place in their bases. That idea (for better or worse) is no longer relevant to this game.
Now the whole "debate" about a MoCoP is a completely different subject. But even if such a thing were ever introduced the chances that it would involve an old-style IoP is pretty much nil at this point. -
I've probably done close to 100 Tip missions now across multiple alts. I've done them at all different times of day as all different alignments and under all kinds of conditions. I can safely say that it's never taken me more than maybe 5 minutes tops between the time I wanted a new Tip to work on and the time I get it. *shrugs*
I keep hearing all these "horror stories" of people trying for like an hour or more just to get a single Tip. I guess I've just never been -that- unlucky. The only "secret" method I use is that I've always street-swept for the biggest bosses my alts can easily handle. I seem (again just from my experience) to get a Tip from a +1 or +2 boss maybe at least 50% of the time.
I wish everybody better luck with this... -
Quote:I would like to see the badges that have counters but not displayed like lucent of light etc... to have badge tracking i wonder why some badges arent tracked yet still have trackingYeah the Devs never considered Gladiators to be real badges in the traditional sense. This likely explains why they don't have unique artwork and why they are the only badges you can't click on in the GUI lists to set as your badge title (you actually can use them for badge titles, but the only way you can do that is with the manual /settitle command).Quote:Gladiators apparently aren't considered 'badges' by the devs. They have different rules.
I strongly suspect the only reason they look and act like badges on our characters is because the Devs found it quick-n-easy to "borrow" the badge awarding code used by badges to make earning Gladiators simple to code. IIRC the Devs originally didn't even want people to count them as far as our "total badge count" goes. Despite that the major badge tracking sites basically never followed that guideline and always counted them as real badges regardless of what the Devs' intentions might have been.
I think as time has passed the Devs have relaxed their original stance on the "Gladiators aren't badges" idea a bit. But one of the holdovers of that idea is that they still don't show up with progress bars or in the Closest to Completion lists. It's hard to say if that'll ever change at this point. -
Yeah I think I'd prefer the "restrict purple and pvp IOs from being sellable at a vendor" idea myself. As you point out the game already prevents other special things like Hami-Os from being sold anyway so the code involved to exclude purple and pvp IOs would probably be relatively simple to implement.
I think it's reasonable to assume that purple and pvp IOs will always be many times more valuable to sellers selling them at the markets than "wasting" them at the vendors. Case in point I've always thought it was incredibly silly for the game to even offer a method to dump a purple IO for as little as (IIRC) 10,000 INF at a vendor in the first place. -
Yeah people have been suggesting what you've called "vet merits" for pretty much as long as the current vet system has been around. I kind of almost understand why the Devs DIDN'T make vet awards work that way at first, but again as time goes on a vet system reworked like that only becomes that much more appealing and fair to all involved. To me a change to a vet merit system would be transparent because I already have all the current vet awards possible. But I can see how it would allow newer people to get access to vet awards they would otherwise probably never realistically have access to.
The true benefit for everyone of a vet merit system like that would be that any future vet awards could legitimately be very cool and useful without the backlash of "How could the Devs give 90 month vets THAT super-cool thing?!?! We'll never have that!" With vet merits anyone could have the super-cool thing in a reasonably short time. Under the current system the Devs hands are tied by having to temper "super-cool" vet award ideas with the increasing "have vs. have-not" dilemma. -
I'm not sure I've seen where Praetoria is supposed to exist on Praetorian Earth. The Rogue Isles could make sense.
I guess you'd first have to assume that Praetorian Earth is 100% identical land-mass wise to Primal Earth. Sure we know many of the key people (like Emperor Cole) match up with their Prime Earth analogs but does that mean their planet is also identical to Prime Earth? I don't know unless a Dev has said it is.
Basically it would be the Devs' call regardless. -
I could see where they might (might mind you) consider trying out some kind of F2P model say 2 or 3 years from now. But just a few weeks/months after a major expansion to the game and a major influx of money/subscriptions to the company? No, that seems very unlikely.

Quote:The classic case of "no matter what the Devs give us someone won't like it".I would love if we could have this feature as an optional filter mechanism so that we can exclude categories that we don't want to track. For example day jobs and accolades. Still, it is a great start. :-)

Your idea is not technically a bad one. More control over things like this is always a good thing. I'm just not sure the Devs would ever bother with it. It took years just to get the "closest to completion" tab we got to begin with.
Of course there's another way around your problem - just go out and earn all the badges.
-
Quote:Well it's clear you read the first post in this thread.Access Ouroborus and get the mission "Video Games Made Me Do it". It's loaded with nothing but PPD and it gives the Couch Potato badge.
Did you read the last post (or many of the others) in the thread before you posted this?
Thanks Captain Redundant.
