  1. Think if you're not hurting for END then it's going to be personal choice. Me I'd lose superior conditioning and take the other two... from those options. Though in reality I wouldn't try and take four from the five maybe just the two I needed and use the other slots for something else.
  2. Don't know if this still applies but not long after the level was lowered (or perhaps when VEATs were added) there was a 'bug' that meant the ATs weren't unlocked unless you had a character actually cross the threshold. So you'd actually need to level to level 20/50/(whatever) to unlock even if you had a character of the requisite level.

I didn't know different salvage dropped in different places... :/
  4. For exchange rates: (edited to clarify)
The actual value of threads and shards is not 10 = 10 as has been said here and elsewhere, that is the exchange rate, set that way I assume to remove excess shards from the world. In fact 1 Shard = 5 Threads :: I'm not trying to get the changed although I find the fact that rewards for more difficult content are not more valuable... odd.

So 1 shard = 5 threads? That is based on lowest common denominator common salvage used in same item creation costs either 4 shards or twenty threads. Or put another way single base alpha slot costs either 12 shards or 60 threads (three pieces of salvage costing 4 or 20) 60/12=5

Removing one set of salvage wouldn't impact that at all, one piece of common salvage would still cost 4 shards or twenty threads. But you could use both threads and shards to make one incarnate slot, whereas at the moment you can't. Yes it is true you can convert shards into threads (though need a minimum of ten and the exchange rate is pants).

The actual process of converting shards into threads is a separate issue, and is I would think primarily intended for those who have t4 Alpha slots and no further use for shards.

As for the whole 'confusing' issue, I may be the only person that looks at Gr'ai Matter and doesn't know from the name of it that is common salvage made from shards. So a form of linking to the actual Convert > Incarnate Shard > Common > Gr'ai Matter Conversion... would make the process easier and more intuitive.

And on the whole I'm not confused about this, I'm annoyed that the devs have made a mess of creating a system that with a bit of thought in the design would have been easy to use and intuitive.

Getting rid of the Alpha Slot salvage will essentially get rid of the rewards for running ITF/STF/LRSF/Kahn/Barracuda/LGTF/CoP along with collecting Vanguard Merits which would annoy some people, me being one of them. It needlessly gets rid of options for players who would prefer to collect the salvage they need and use the shards to create the uncommons and Favours.

Also there is also a Shard to Thread convertion rate of 10 to 10 (once every 24hrs and then 10 to 5) so if they said you have to make the new salvage using shards they wouldn't necessarily change the exchange rate. This means it would take 20 shards to make one common where as now it only takes 4 to make it It will push people to grind TFs and higher content for shards, which is one of the biggest complaints about the current Trials.
    Not my intention at all.

Four shards buy a single piece of common salvage. As do 20 threads. But each type of salvage can only be used in one recipe, consequently each alpha slot needs two recipes one for salvage traded from threads and one from shards.

If shards bought the same salvage as the threads do then you wouldn't be mitigating or losing the value of shard drops but increasing them because you could for instance: Use 8 shards and 20 threads to make the same Alpha slot. Unlike now where several of my characters have a mixture of threads; thread salvage and shards; shard salvage. But not enough of either to be useful.

As for trading shards directly for threads, leave it as it is. It will remove inf (Inf Sink) and really only be used by very few people who have huge amount of shards and want threads.

That is as you don't earn shards prior to being able to do trials and once you can do trials you earn threads anyway, the only people who will have many more shards than threads are likely to be those who earned shards before threads were available or who never run trials. So a method to transfer one resource to another is needed, but with the above change is not as needed as before.

    Suggestions?

    Ah thanks...

Though in 'For fun' rather makes me think it won't be taken seriously... :-/
  7. Currently my biggest turn off on Incarnates is the difficulty in using this screen to make the different powers.

The creation screen lists what I need to make a power, but to see what I need to make those I need to switch to a different tab.

    So suggestion:
Use the Wentworth/AH style linked items so you can look at what you want to make, click it to be shown what you need to make that item. That is in the AH I can look at a recipe and then search the ingredients needed to make it. Adding this to incarnate crafting would make a complex system much easier to use. Also a search function so I can see what I can use each drop for.

    Additional suggestion:
Remove shard & thread specific recipes, make each alpha slot recipe use salvage from just the thread side of these and have shards also make same salvage. (Whole shard/thread issue needlessly complicates the whole issue with no real benefit.)

Is there a suggestions forum if so where? Looked for it not seeing it...

    Yeah sorry you are... :/

It was specifically a controller mind (or some such similar wording) and it was the additional fear powers that were used.

As for the rest I will have a good look at what you've said, so thanks for the reply.
  10. Only been back for a week or so and am still updating my builds to have inherent fitness (where appropriate). My MM I'm struggling with due to not having enough slots to actually slot very hard any replacement powers to fitness. Or finding any need.

But I was thinking back to when I originally levelled her up and recalled that someone I think on the US forums (but linked on EU) (possibly the other way round). To an idea with adding the presence pool two fears into a /dark build to increase to amount of control one has. However I can't seem to find anything about it now.

So is it a viable option now? And if so does anyone have a build I could have a look at?

Sorry forgot to say I'm Bots/Dark.

Current Build - Hopelessly badly slotted, my only villain at the time so never had enough Inf to do much with.

    This TBH!!!

And add tools for other sorts of asset creation, seriously there are some extremely talented people out here in User Land, while many wouldn't use/submit stuff many would, and some would be good enough for inclusion.

So add tools (or addons for existing programs) that allow asset creation in a format you need, add a peer review thread/board. The best of the peer reviewed stuff can then be reviewed by Devs and added to game.

    Otherwise Option 3...

That is option two but with extraneous textures removed a while later.

Oh and can you make Steampunk chest look somewhat steamier... and punkier...?
  13. /Signed...

Oh and if the above is done can we (I want it anyway) please have a command (eg: /change_battlecry) to change the battle cry without having to go into the stupid window.
  14. Having returned for Going Red I really liked the animated tails I found, however I missed the option for a visibly robotic tail... it was missing from the static tails too but they looked crap anyway. A re-skin of the cat tail would do it, just so it looks like it's made from sections of metal. (Rodent tail could be done too for that Stainless Steel Rat look.)

Also can we have some wings that function in the same manner to normal wings but look more like the GvE booster thing or the jet packs you get from various other sources? Only looking better OFC. (I'd pay a micro-transaction for these). I'd draw it if I could...

Naming really sucks now. Sure, I can come up with decent sounding names that aren't taken, but then, they're taken . And I also have to do the mess of hoping they actually fit the character anyway. And Emperor Cole forbid if you actually want a one-word name.
At least in this game you would be forced into using a global name that you picked out yourself, whereas the 'other' game you would have been forced to use a global name that your parents picked for you. Which is fine for those of us not called Clarence Hubert Simply-Phutt.

  16. For me, my worst would be Lost Ninja my level 50 DM/Regen Scrapper. The character I have based my entire online identity around since the mid 30s in game. And the character that I never play because regen (mostly) is so unrelentingly dire.

Now it could be a case of rose tinted spectacles having created LN way back in i3 (shortly before i4) whenever I play her I'm reminded of how good regen once was, or maybe it's just that there are so many better secondaries now.

I had a BS/regen created around an issue prior to CoV (i5?) who I loved up until her mid 30s and played until her mid forties. She's now level 7 and stalled but with a different 2ndary. Again I loved her back story (about 8 pages of A4), I loved her look and name but hated regen.

As for anything else, loathe VEATs, dislike HEATs and can't seem to get anywhere with tankers.
  17. Much to think on there, thank you both.

How serious I am will depend on how quickly I pick it up, in an ideal world it'll get me a job... obviously the world is far from ideal so it'll most likely be something I use to make things more fun.

I'll certainly give Ruby a look at though not sure if it'll go further than that, while C# (keep calling it C(hash) not sharp) was something I had already looked at but wasn't sure if it was any good for someone starting from scratch or not. As for C/C++ I've looked at them (well IIRC C++) in the past but never got further than that... and it was the distant past, (Borland C++ 4.5 IIRC came on about 8 floppies).

Edit: Just booted my linux box and tried to add any form of Ruby (which I'm after rather than the web development for RoR) and found that a)My Kubuntu install is very out of date and b)Couldn't get either package manager to install anything to do with Ruby. And I'm not going to start compiling stuff myself at this stage.
However I will grab a new Kubuntu disc at some point soon and do a clean install (I'll stick the laptop onto Win7 while I'm at it, and then try again. Until then I'll give C# a go.
  18. I have never been madly keen on new years resolutions as January is a time of year I pretty much want to sleep through. So I make my resolution to coincide with my birthday.

    Which is today...

This year I've pretty much decided to try and learn to program in a real language and not just a scripting language (I have some skills in web stuff (PHP, MySQL, XHTML) and a little bit of knowledge of how LUA works (mainly from WoW addons but also from some other games that use LUA for scripting)).

So I want to know which language is a good starting point?
Specifically something that is similar in structure to PHP or LUA so I can build on what I already understand/know rather than learning something entirely new. Also I have no intention of trying to actually write games though writing for games is definitely something I like the idea of. Lastly I plan on working within the Windows platform as while I have a linux box I'm not a huge fan and don't use it much, so a windows based environment is essential. On the other hand I don't always need a GUI so a 'Visual' language isn't essential.

While no longer especially relevant I learned to program Turbo Pascal (Borland Turbo Pascal v5) a long time ago, which I used for my Computer Studies GCSE in about 1995 (TP was upto v7 IIRC at the time).

Oh and training (web and book based) is going to be needed so something that isn't only known to a handful of developers however good the language is.

Now I know that this forum is for City of Heroes and Villainous scum... so asking this question here is likely to get flamed, trolled, locked or just plain deleted. So I will add that of course I plan on writing things for City of Heroes (but not those evil red dudes ).

Reason I'm posting it here is while this is not a programming community there are some people here who are programmers and I'm less likely to get flamed down or to Google it (which I have done BTW) and just told an answer.

Any help much appreciated (and birthday wishes too. ).
  19. Looking for a good general purpose Fire/Kin build that will work equally well in teams or solo (probably slightly more use solo or in small teams with other Fire/Kins (I have three on different accounts).

Have access to all the APPs but am struggling to come up with a build that includes all the stuff I want.

I was leaning toward Mace Mastery for the PFF but dislike losing the status protection courtesy of the Mind APP.

Q: Does the recharge bonus from Gladiator's Net (x5) of +7.5% work all the time of just in PvP/PvP Zones? As this is slightly cheaper than the Purple Hold set.
  20. This morning I logged in and played fine, now however when I try logging in I get told that my PC is not talking to the login server.

Nothing has changed on my machine (that I know of).

1)What ports need to be open? (And how do I do that in Win 7?)

2)Can I ping/tracert the login server? (Again if so how (eg what IP?)).

    3)Any other ideas?

I play EU only, and my internet connection is via a local wifi mesh (that is the internet reaches my house via a wireless mesh.

Reason I ask is that my 3rd account has a level 21 villain yet because she hit 21 back in i15/16 VEATs are still locked (consensus of opinion in Defiant Events was that I needed to force her to level/gain a level to cause the EAT to unlock). So it still might be possible.
  22. 1)Damn...

2)Great Software KVM but not what I'm looking for... I might end up switching to WinXP for my CoH playing, I know octopus works for that.

OTOH I'm having issues with Input Director that I never had before and can no longer work out how to keybind an on/off button .

    Whereas Octopus now works fine.
  23. In the distant past I dual/triple boxed CoH, I did this because it was fun and I enjoyed doing it. I'm not into PvP and my method of playing didn't really impact on anyone else.

I've returned for GR and I'd like to start at least dual-boxing again (possibly x3). In the past I always used some software called Octopus (keyboard multiplexor) however that has been abandoned (author stopped play WoW which is what it was designed for).

    So:
1)Is CoH DirectX or OpenGL, can't seem to find the info because while DirectX is apparently required the system is supposed to be OpenGL. Reason I ask is if it is DX I can use InnerSpace which has an active development and plenty of support.
2)Anyone else dual-box through software have any suggestions software wise? (Tried Keyclone but it doesn't work for CoH using two clients one PC, and I can't afford the $20/PC registration (InnerSpace is $10/5xPC), I've also had a dig around on Dual-Boxing.com but they seem even more focused on WoW than they were. Octopus may or may not work not tried it on win7 x64, and TBH if I can find a good replacement I will.

Pretty much all Blue content prior to about i9, (minus stuff that has been updated recently) but especially the Shadow Shards (not just the TFs). Don't play red side often (if it can be avoided) so can't really comment on what it needs.

And I'd love to see Tip style mission replace most of the filler and paper missions.
