I never predicted it but 09/06/11 would be fine for me...
  2. Which if you have want you can have a look later today/early tomorrow. Though I suspect Mids will lag behind that a little.

Especially since it's doubtful we're going to see any future discs to 'catch you up' like prior massive patches.
Heh my primary reason for getting the beta is so I'm mostly ready for i21 when it launches. Don't want to play too much 'content' as then I'm bored when it goes live... :/
  4. You don't need the extra slot in fly as speed is capped with no enhancements though I guess you're using it for the set bonus.

Entropy shield is if anything a Res set yet you've slotted for Def, I'm guessing because it enhances Def-Debuff Protection (mids doesn't show that sort of thing).

Drop the 2nd slot from fly, and 2nd slot from Entropy Shield

Put both into boxing/kick, and slot Something into that, personally I'd probably go with Pounding Slugfest and get the Nrg/Neg + Ranged but YMMV.

However as I'm currently working on my own KM/Nrg this build has certainly given me something to work toward.

    edit:
I'd also argue for putting Reactive Armor into Dampening field, yes you lose some fire/cold but you gain smash/lethal. Of course you also lose the psionic res, but at only 3% I wonder how much effect that would be. :/

    Edit2:
You don't mention incarnate but I'd be inclined to chase recharge through Alpha and drop a slot from hasten to slot into tough (or a res power) for the PvP Unique (+3% Def to All)

This is with t3 Spiritual Alpha

    Chat Settings

When I save my chat settings it always loses the fact that my Global Chat channel is default for it's tab (only channel in the tab). Yet I cannot see in the chat.txt how it indicates which channel is default for that tab.

    Any ideas?
  6. Is there a way to speed the download? That is in the old days you could speed up the installation of the test server by copying the Live client into the test folder and having it update the changed files. Is that still possible?

Reason I ask is I don't really want to re-download ~6Gb data ~4Gb of which I probably have on my PC already...

  8. Just finished a 'final' build on my Mind/Rad last night running with t2 (Destiny: Ageless) and t3 (Alpha: Spiritual).

Though I have near perma Hasten without either (downtime is like 2 secs), and perma AM. Damage is nothing to write home about but I can solo containers/crates in Lam (t1 judgement so far) -- Though in all honesty it's the confused mobs round the item that do 90% of the damage. Quite aside from the fact that I have two powers for cheap purple sets (Sleep & Confuse).

Just wish I'd seen this thread before I respecced last night. Hadn't thought to take slots from Lingering Radiation to boost recharge in AM via Efficiency Adaptor (x6 bonus). And other powers could use extra slots too.

Also you have a full set of epics and a PvP... :/

If hypothetically I can ever afford the non-epics and PvPs in mine... this is what it will look like:

They play Good because the entirety of the US (I will exclude European players because I just don't live there) is corrupt and "not Good". People get sick and tired of seeing abuse of the system, abuse of themselves, abuse of the world, so they play the side that makes them think there might be something better, even if its just in a comic world.
I've not read all of your posts but I disagree with this one. And I don't automatically agree with GG (mostly I think she talks a lot of rubbish... ).

But as has been seen in other games, well outside of the comic book genre people prefer to play good guys. I think it is partly down to the fact that being nice to people generally makes you feel better about yourself, certainly within the common societal structure. You're trained from an early age to be nice to people. If CoV actually felt evil you would certainly have a larger percentage of people playing through the content because they like to do the things they can't get away with IRL. But CoV never did feel evil -- even Westin Phipps doesn't.

Add to that a lack of overall content (probably because there are less players to develop for) more people will spend less time there.

I played from CoV beta and once seeing the content once there was little need to go back and play again. And more as I'd been playing CoH since EU Launch, there was very little to do that was genuinely new and interesting that I would want to try again with a different character/team/power sets/build/etc. For example I like soloing Frostfire. Lowest I've managed was at level 6 with a mind/rad, but pretty much all my heroes attempt him. There was never anything like that in Villains... Sea Witch didn't count as she was piss easy.

Easier groups. Better rewards and groups at the same time. The majority of the co-op stuff has crappy rewards. Why do I want to do a co-op for 30some reward merits when I can do a blueside for 50?
Do you have any real figures or do you just think that this is true? I play blueside because I prefer the content, I couldn't care less about rewards. Rewards are like the icing (frosting?) on a cake that is the content. Providing I can eat the cake it doesn't need icing to be yummy.

For me like CoV Praetoria was great on the first play through. Now I avoid it because a)It's empty and b)It's boring when they add the 20-25 content I might run another character through to see that content natively but doubt it.

It has nothing to do with Good vrs Evil, and everything to do with Reward vrs Getting Shafted.
If you only play for the rewards then you're already missing 90% of the content. It is far too simplistic to say that the only reason people play Heroes is the rewards are better. CoV didn't suddenly empty out the moment IOs and Merits were added, it was already empty, because it lacks content and what content there is is both drab and less than evil. I'm not saying parity of reward is wrong, because for same risk you should get same reward. But that most people in my experience prefer heroes for things other than that disparity.

    @OP's original question:
If the fact that trial players cannot team easily is carried over to F2P players then the whole point of Freedom (IMO) is wasted. This is an MMO F2P should showcase this MMO and encourage people to buy points or sign up. If basic functions of any MMO are missing then many won't bother. (Three people I have persuaded to try a trial have all said they gave up the idea because it was impossible to find/make a team.) Teaming is a very basic part of any MMO, preventing it is a seriously bad option.

Yes there needs to be safeguards to prevent abuse but just removing it for F2P is idiotic.

I'm not going to call that stupid, but that makes no sense. Not only are you not giving anything away because you are still charging for it at 400-800, your point seems to be that you don't want to get too much value for money.

This game will drive me away by overcharging me. My subscription and the price of one or two boosters a year is the maximum I am prepared to drop. People crow that we will be losing nothing by staying VIPs, but I expect more than just access to servers and the odd story arc for my sub fee.

VIPs should get a lot. I have my doubts that they will.
It's entirely serious, and I mean every word of it.

    Current revenue streams are:
    Subscriptions and Booster Packs

    Future revenue streams are:
    Subscriptions and Points

By giving everything away to VIP they remove the need for VIP players to buy points, especially if they make additional content -- that is the stuff that isn't given automatically to VIP players -- cheap to get for VIP players, as has been suggested in this (and many other) thread(s).

If the items sold in the store are too cheap the store won't make up for loss of revenue caused by fewer subs. And while subs may in fact go up -- I for one hope so -- I doubt it will be a huge increase.

Of course this makes no sense if you stick with the idea that VIP players somehow deserve everything for only the price of their subs. Something that hasn't ever been true. Once you consider that for the game to thrive it must make money then I for one can look at it in the light that 400-800 is very cheap for something that should be something people want to buy points for to achieve.

    Further more:
It is currently said (by other people in many threads) that 800 points is around $10 in value. A months sub costs $15. (IIRC)

    For that sub you get:
    400 points ($5)
    1 Transfer token @ 800 points ($10)
    Origin Arcs @ 400 points ($5).
Plus a whole load of other things that non-VIP players must pay for. 12 character slots, a free power set... etc etc etc.

Now my maths skills are crap but I get from that a total worth of at least $20/month but probably a lot more. Now tell me again that VIPs are being screwed over.
  12. I personally think at 400-800 they are far too cheap. And should be closer to 1200.

The devs want to earn additional revenue, making them too cheap means they're either giving power sets away or they're giving booster packs away. They shouldn't be giving either away.

Everything will still be 'free' to VIPs but if you want everything now you will need to pay extra. IMO.
  13. I fail to understand the point of this thread.

If you don't like Blasters, fine don't doesn't bother people who do mostly.

If you want Blasters to be fixed... suggest some fixes.

Personally I think they're great as is, better than a stalker any day.

Unless they're planning on removing all the Incarnate badges from a non-VIP as well, which seems unlikely.
Or the access is restricted to a 'Incarnated' flag, which is initially set on VIP accounts as active when you receive the badge but is unset when moving from VIP to premium.

    Feeling lost

Well don't... I don't go around feeling people...

In general terms I don't min/max, I build the best I can with the resources available but seldom really go for broke with getting the best build... partly as I have so many characters and partly as I don't enjoy spending hours doing it... Let me play...

But the idea that some of my 'heroes' are less powerful than others? Isn't that always the way? Especially within a single AT some sets are just not as good as others. It's how you play them that counts.
  16. All true except Incarnates didn't come with GR. They came the issue after GR launched. Yes you need GR to access Incarnate stuff, but the two things did not arrive together (though that was the original intention apparently).

I wonder if the removal of Incarnate stuff from GR pre-launch was because that was the point the finalised their internal plans for Freedom

    This...

And also the two new 'currencies' coming with i21 that both have Paragon in their names. Designed to be confusing?

    Edit to add:
1)The number of currencies isn't actually too high. But that there are too many currencies that do - in effect - the same thing. This is what is confusing (for me at any rate).
2)Conversion between types especially Empys and Astrals (but also shards and threads) are at awful exchange rates. Devs really need to sit down and sort out the absolute base exchange rate for top tier currency to basic tief of reward (not Inf, which isn't really a currency... and won't work unless recipes gain huge prices from vendors) then work up everything else from there. eg
    LotG +Recharge:
    32 Astrals
    200 Reward Merits
    2 Alignment Merits

Yet at the same time 1 astral = 1 reward merit??? Am I the only one who finds that odd?

Sure the devs need to add in a loss to transactions, just as they have a Inf sink in the AH. Otherwise prices will only go up.
3)Vanguard Merit could effectively be removed and replaced with a different mechanic to award the costume parts (rewards from the vanguard arcs?). The additional items could be rare (or not based on their current cost) drops from Rikti eg if an item currently costs 200 VM, you'd have a 200:1 chance to drop of any rikti that currently would drop a VM.
4)Remove AE tickets entirely, slightly improve all other AE drops (prestige, inf & XP). Yes it will cut down on the availability of some recipes and salvage. But even speaking as a AE farmer the whole AE farm situation is beyond mad. 1-50 in 6 hours?

Unlikely since it requires a bit more work to stay alive, and the rewards are lower. But you never know.
Should be pointed out - and not to detract from this guide in any way - that you don't need a blinged out SS/FA to farm using the 'old' fashioned fire farm. Of course it helps, but then so do damage procs in Lightning Field.

My own SS/FA while by no means a perfect farmer is functionally complete with commons and some cheaper +recharge bonus sets. I'm following your guide here to PL through level pacting.
  21. As far as I can see it can't be done without Incarnates, or an awful lot of mule sets... I got it down to 1.6s downtime (31.6s recharge) but the build would have sucked as a blaster, well maybe not sucked but certainly had to drop slots into mule sets that would have been better in damage powers.

Which is true, I'm the chump and I bet in RV as a level 50 with some incarnate abilities a level 40 PvPer could beat me with ease...

    @Thread.

I used to PvP it was fun, then it got boring because nothing ever changed. Then it all changed and I don't even enter the PvP zones now.

My vote would go for the remove PvP specific rules in PvP zones, except where the PvE rules allow easy griefing (like TPing into drones etc).

Cloak of Darkness would probably be taken earlier... not sure where but earlier. Ideally I'd prefer to go with a slightly more impressive ancillary but don't seem able to find the slots. Maybe leave that till I've got some Incarnate powers going and can afford to lose acc/end/ect from the powers directly. Ideally I'm chasing the soft cap for smashing & lethal with plenty of recharge & recovery. Anything I can adjust to fulfil those aims?
