Uhh... what about color customization the powers in use by AE critters? any word?

While that is definitely true, underestimating a Bright Nova that's blasting you in the face — if you're an enemy NPC that is — would be a silly thing to do since Bright Nova attacks strip away a bit of defense, and once you load those two single-target Bright Nova blasts with Chance to Hold procs, even Bosses may find themselves held with enough applications of the powers, while the Bright Nova floats above them and well... twiddles its tentacles!
  4. I started farming for newbies who are interested in the game beyond simply how fast they can get someone else to use AE to PL their character.

It's very simple really, I take my Lv50 PB into the AE building in AP and start broadcasting that I'm looking for low-level characters to join me in AE missions.

Of the 7 other lower-level characters, usually I'd find at least one player who's interested in the game mechanics, and they'd start asking questions... about my character, about their character, about why is it that their character does not seem as effective against even one Boss where-as my PB can tank the spawn for the whole team.

Of the other 6 people most would just stand around, soak the XP and do nothing. Others would actually show they want to learn, so they'd help by whichever way they can, so I watch them and learn who I've just invited into my team.

So far, out of 3 such teams, I've already found one recruit into my All Kheldian SG, and several others who truly wish to improve their gameplay and enjoy the game itself rather than overpowered characters they have no idea how to properly play... so we'll be making new characters together over the weekend! So, AE can be a wonderful way to meet new people who may share your love for the game.

I'm LordXenite and I farm for newbies.

    Khield Colors?

Sadly, this too has been discussed, and AFAIK, the EATs are not getting to re-colorize.
  6. I did roleplaying in CoH once. We started an SG of Spartans. The idea was that Paragon City has become a focal point for Spartans from all over Creation. The past, the future, the present... and people roleplayed. People had fun. No one talked about builds really (we were all quite experienced players, and build-talks were set aside when we were teaming together) and *I* was actually the one narrating the "story" of the story-arcs we were doing.

All this happened way way before AE. People were simply interested in the idea of how would Spartans of different time periods relate to one another. It was fun and interesting while it lasted.

Thing is though, I've never seen an MMO that actually supports roleplaying. The reason I say this, is because at least to me, roleplaying is much much more than our characters' background stories and IC/OOC chats. Roleplaying to me, is about how our characters react in the gameworld and how the gameworld reacts to them. So, when my only interaction with the gameworld is "Defeat all Council in Base; Find 3 Clues" and that's it, this to means there is no roleplay.

When the gameworld allows you to interact in ways that actually require you to think: "what would my character do to get through this?", instead of just fighting spawn after spawn after spawn, then your characters' background story can mean something, because that's what you'd be calling upon to help you figure out what to do? Do you save the 3 Scientists from the Giant Monster they've created? or Do you just erect a Force Field around the whole lab and sit aside watching as the Evil Scientists get clobbered by their creation before going in to defeat the monster?

To me, roleplaying is all about choices and in computer games, we don't have any roleplay choices other than what the environment and the game mechanics allow us. Quite frankly, in CoH that isn't enough.

How does all this relate to AE? Well, I believe that if we as a playerbase support AE as more than yet-another-farming tool, we may eventually show the Devs (by requesting more sophistication in the AE system) what features we'd like the game itself to have, and maybe one day, we'd log-in to a game that allows us to decide more than what we're allowed now.
  7. You know... I also keep forgetting I've got Chance for +Damage IO's slotted in my Nova attacks, and I also switch forms like a raving lunatic, laughing maniacally after mobs who chase me in my Nova form meet the business end of my claws in Dwarf form. For a TriFormShade™ no Form is the end-all be-all, you have to combine form-attacks to be as effective as you can be.

You can't expect to play in Dark Nova like you'd play a Human-only WS.

That's a great question which I'm sure no player has any answer to. If you want to maximize the chance an Ally could hit enemies, I suggest trying to select power-set combinations that allow ToHit buffs or Defense debuffs. Check out if you can create an Earth Control/Radiation blast ally and see how well that one does.
  9. And if there's a story involved in this, I'd probably join too, especially if the whole setup was user-created content.

I've been wanting — and talking about — PvP integration in AE since before AE was even announced.

    Street Sweeping

I like this idea of re-integrating street hunting into the game much better than those ideas that require street-mobs be raised in levels if Heroes don't curb their growth.
  11. I totally forgot to actually check the numbers...

Besides kiting ability due to flight you mean?

Honestly, I think people are forgetting that the up-shift to Nova takes time, yes, but the down-shift from Nova to Human is instantaneous. Using that to your advantage allows you to kite something until you're ready to hit it with Gravitic Emanations and/or Gravity Well. If you plan things just right, you'd have the spawn ready for Unchain Essence and/or Quasar after which you can StygianCircle and up-shift to whatever you need and continue with the slaughter, or to the next spawn.

Not to mention that after you get your fluffies out, you'd probably want to use Dwarf anyway to ensure your fluffies don't die too fast due to how aggressive they can be

That doesn't seem like a bug to me, I mean how would you handle a situation like this if you were a Dev?

Check the Ally settings. You have to set an Ally to "Follow", and either "Fight Aggressive" or "Fight Defensive", not sure about the exact terms, but the settings are available and Allies do help fight.

  16. 161,431 is the number of registered Forum members! 161,431!! So perhaps CoX has more than 200K paying subscribers already?

    LOL sorry, it's 161432 now!

Me too, but all things considered, I'd rather have the Devs allows us more customization, control, and diversification in our user-created AE content rather than in the game-world.
  18. I could never "connect" with Human-form only. I'm guessing that's because I actually like the Forms and the sense of danger that comes from shifting, and also because quite frankly, I dislike shields.
  19. I'm not leaving either. I actually started enjoying bringing out my Lv50 TriFormPB and building a team of low-level characters and taking them on AE Boss-farms. It's just a different way to have fun.

You see, each character on the team, as long as they're near me — not matter what level they are — contributes to my inherent buff, Cosmic Balance, just by standing there!

If I'm lucky enough to have low-level Controllers and Defenders who use their control, buff and debuff powers allowing me to tank — and the team to defeat — two (or more) groups at a time, I do just that, and the whole team may actually learn a thing or two about how valuable a "support-role" can actually be.

If just one out of those 7 with me starts asking questions about the game, about my character, about building advice, as long as what they're looking for is honest answers, and not someone who'll build their character for them, I help as much as I can, which sometimes includes running a Respec TF so build "mistakes" can be corrected.

So, I thank the Devs for AE, for double-XP in AE and for finally helping Kheldians show exactly what Kheldians were always meant to be... Elders teaching the young.

  21. Zero leveling, a few million INF and a bunch of lowbies who leveled with me and at least a couple of 49's who dinged 50. Also, started re-working my story-arc and got almost 2 missions done!

    AE suggestions

-Maybe this a bug, but if not yeah this. Selecting a placement of a clue in a mission means the clue will be placed in that area. I tried making a mission with multiple decoy clues everywhere and an actual clue in the middle so the speed the player/team finds the real one would be at random, but the real one got moved to the back. The area you pick to place something should be the area it goes to.

-If possible in the future different next missions if the last mission was failed or succeeded.

-Option to have bosses do emotes at certain hit point ranges. Boss at 1/4 Hit Points "This battle I can not win there is only one thing left to do. Dance." /e boombox.
/signed to all of these, although the last one should be looked at very closely so that Authors cannot burden Bosses with animations that would eventually leads to the Boss being unable to attack the players!

I'd also like to add one suggestion of my own, aggregate-triggers. This means a trigger, or mission-goal that is executed only once all the aggregated mission-goals are complete. For example, "Defeat Boss1; Defeat Boss2; Defeat Boss3; Find 3 Clues" could all be aggregated into one trigger so that the player can go at their own pace and defeat the Bosses and collect the clues in whatever order but the mission itself will only advance once all the goals are met.

  24. All MMO's, and in fact, most RPG's are based on the concept that when you first start out, your character can't do much. With time, spent in-game defeating enemies and thwarting evil plans, the characters advance in powers, gain levels and are gradually pushed out of their beginner zones into the bigger game-world.

If a character at Lv10 can street-hunt by itself at 5pm, but is repeatedly defeated at 5:30pm because all the enemies in the neighbourhood have all of a sudden become mighty Lv15's, then the game loses an element that most games require to be enjoyable by most people which is: Relative Predictability.

Your suggestion, Hermit, will eventually lead to some people becoming disappointed with the game because they cannot by themselves stop the growth of "crime", and cannot raise enough Heroes to join them in the effort of defeating the crimewave, and since their characters would be low-level Heroes, eventually they will not have any zones to migrate to and continue playing there.

Your suggestion may be suitable and seems to function in games that are designed with the GameWorld concept from square one, but CoX was designed with mission-instances at heart and so street-hunting as a concept is not as integral to the game as you may hope.

I'd also like to add that the concept of Superheroes going out and dishing their own brand of justice in the streets isn't something you see in most comic books or movies apart from sporadic scenes, usually in the beginning of the piece. Superheroes eventually progress beyond the common thieves, bankrobbers and purse-snatchers and move on to global threats the government didn't even know existed.

As you've summed it up quite potently:
