  1. Re: ClawsandEffect, thank you! Your post was exactly what I needed. Now I can do a little homework to procure the sets I need.

Re: Zyphoid, You bet your sweet sweater vest I'm a U of M fan! As far as the Ninja pack goes, I just got the wrist-slap from my better half for buying the Steam Punk pack. So I'll have to hold off on that. But thanks for the suggestion.

On a slightly different note: what do you guys & gals think of Blaze Mastery vs. Darkness Mastery? Initially I was all giddy for Blaze, but now I'm thinking that Darkness (much like the rock band) rocks!

Nope, I was clueless. I stopped playing CoH right after IOs became a hit, so I kind of missed that whole thing. I'm learning about the sets all the time. It sounds like my regen, which was such a bad ace in the beginning, is not the secondary du jour thanks to the discovery of soft-capping. Well pooh.

So recharge is the way to go. Is that simply accomplished with recharge enchancements on my click heals?
  3. This is my first toon Level. He's been in Paragon for many many years, and after a respite he needs some polishing. Level is a martial artist/regen scrapper who is 50.

Thanks to some of your help I've discovered Mids' Hero Designer and I now know a little about soft-capping, which explains why Level was getting hit all the time.

Here is my first attempt at respecing him back to respectability. I'm going for a couple things in general: 1) the use of IO sets, and 2) much improved defense. I will happily take any and all critiques on how to rebuild this guy. That being said, I will keep fly & super speed because that's how he likes to roam.

  4. Thanks for the tips. I did edit my post to include the direction I want to take.
  5. This is my first clumsy attempt at using Mids' Hero/Villain Designer and I've created an UNSLOTTED electric/fire blaster with cold epic powers. I've based this build upon Eldandil's Elec/Fire AoE Death Machine but I changed some of his choices for powers and when to take them.

Please help me fill in the slotting as I have very little idea about soft-capping and the IO sets. My goal is to get my defense as soft-capped as can be and be an AoE-damage-dealing bad ace.

I decided on, of all things, a blaster. "Element-Z" on Virtue if you see her. She's electric/fire. I am cautiously optimistic about the soft-capping: I'm already using hover w/ a couple defense enhancements.

From what I gather I can stack the defenses from hover, combat jumping, and weave to get a decent, albeit nothing like a tank, defense soft-cap. I'm excited to be an offensive juggernaut for a change.
  7. I downloaded Mid's Hero & Villain Designer and it seems stuck on "Loading Enhancement Database..." but after about 10 minutes the application fires up. However, the loading pop-up remains. Odd. I'm running Windows 7 (x86). Anyone else having this issue?

To plan a build and see what defenses it would have you cannot go wrong with Mids:

I strongly recommend making your build in mids and posting it in the Scrappers forum for a critique before respeccing in game.
Thanks for the tip. It looks like my scrapper has a base defense of 0.00%. He only has a small increase (1.88%) on Melee & AOE and a smaller increase (0.94%) on Smashing, Lethal, Fire, and Cold.

But honestly this info is game breaking. Read it, re-read it and then read it again. This has changed the game immensely for me and I cannot express how much fun this game has become once I understood this. It has made my mediocre heroes and villains into Super Heroes and Super Villains.

If someone could write a market guide as good as this is explained I would be rich in the game as well.
Wow. Thank you for the link. I fell out of my chair. The scrapper I took to 50 was done so out of guts and teams of help. I'd like to look at his defenses and re-roll him. Is this softcapping accomplished through the IO's then? How would I be able to tell what his defenses add up to?

Aah. Back in the day it used to be 3 SO enhancements. Now with the IO's I guess that's a different story.
  11. I've seen the term softcap used a ton in the threads, but I'm not familiar with it. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, y'all.

Mind Link one of the best and most fantastic team buffs there is as you can with one click, give everyone great additional defense (at high lvls, may not matter as much). Free extra costume slot. Buttcapes!!!! You can use the dual builds system to have a fortunata on the other build. Also, you can PvP with the widows/forts some as well. Given the amount of things you can do with a widow, I think it is the perfect final toon.
I never got a villain to 50, so I can't play a Night Widow. I'm a little bummed about that.

I've actually been playing since Beta and have played all the archetypes I could. But I only got the scrapper and troller to 50. My wife and I played A TON before our kids were born, but now our time is divided among the 1.5 yr-old and the 3.5 yr-old. It's time I played my last hurrah (for a while).

I am about to embark on my final toon for CoH and would love to know some of your favorite builds. I took a martial arts/regen scrapper and a kinetic/fire controller to 50 and would like to try something different. I did not like playing PBs or WSs, so those are out. I will most like be going solo on this last hurrah, so consider that.

    Thanks y'all!
  16. I'm just curious as to why CoH hasn't released an ice scrapper yet? The powers are there and ready to use. I've been away from the game for a while and love the new implementations, but I thought I'd ask the populace about this.
