On a good team (or even an awesome solo character) you can run to the Smash and Grab location and trip all the alarms at the same time. It's like getting an entire mission's worth of foes coming straight to you. How can you beat that?

Glad to see you're enjoying yourself. If you're enjoying playing on Pinnacle and want to join the main badge hunting channel (where we talk about pretty much anything, not just badges, feel free to send me a tell @lemur lad

Warning: Game experience may change during online play.
Sorry you have to do work when they patch, but it's necessary. Do what I do, and look for ways to use the changes to make the arc better. -
Quote:There have been comments in the past that have implied that they may in fact have run the script on trial accounts that were never paid on, and done without the usual warnings. I don't have an issue with that. Someone who never invested in the game shouldn't get the same consideration as anyone who paid, even for just a couple of months. As a side note, it *has* been quite some time - and yes, they do tell us when it's going to be run (or have, historically.) I actually asked... ok, brain lock, not lighthouse but whatsername who was in at the same time... about it around a year ago and they hadn't been running it, and didn't seem to have any plans to in the near term. Not saying it hasn't been run *since,* but again - we normally hear about it.
Again, though, I wouldn't argue with it being done on a regular basis on trial accounts that don't go live within 60 days or so. *shrug* I don't think it'd have all that much impact, TBH - much like the prior script runs didn't really have much, or so we're told - but at least people wouldn't be so worried about "good names sitting unused" on them. -
Repel is an oddball, but I'd probably consider that a mezz. I did in fact think of it when I was listing, I just went back and forth on it's own listing or not.
Technically speaking I should take all the PBAoEs and list them in one item I suppose. -
This has been intermittent for me at best, and I've been trying to track down how and why it's happening. I do get the password as reflex point, but no that's not it. I've very clearly seen the login prompt appear with the *** for my password already there, and all I needed to do was hit enter.
I'll try and be more rigorous about it and get it to replicate, because the more I think about it, I agree this is less QoL and more security problem. -
Those were the most notable, but there are about half a dozen you missed that I heard about at one point or another.

There are a lot of things people did, that have been nerfed as the system has been in place. It's hard to give a comprehensive list since it's an ongoing back and forth.
However the most recent round of changes has to do with the proliferation of Boss Farms. A custom enemy group with either a custom critter or an existing NPC, but only the Boss rank. Then a mission would only spawn Bosses. This was changed so that a custom group needs all 3 ranks to get full xp. Additionally custom critters are modified so they need a full complement of powers to get full xp. -
If you're the lowbie or someone else, it's the same thing.

Yeah, Origin Specific, Archetype Specific, and even Powerset specific Inspires was something I was thinking about writing on later. Good Stuff.
-
Actually I was thinking they wouldn't drop at all. And yes, they wouldn't interact with existing Inspires. Similar to Empowerment Buffs, they would be crafted, or maybe bought with merits, tickets, or Bounty points (if they were PvP Inspires).
-
I hate fading when I level up (with a passion), and I have a crafter that negates the cost of buying recipes. I didn't go into detail about how I get my IOs because I didn't have the time.
Cost is relative when it's a game with simulated bits and bytes. It doesn't cost me much to do something I'd be spending time on anyway (selling what drops I get, crafting some things to sell them ready made).
You're right that if I flat out bought things from a standing start it would cost more. With a little thought and planning, it costs less, and that leads to just as much sense of accomplishment as blowing through a mission. -
Quote:If my value did in fact come from those things, then a unique name should be more important to me than less, especially since two of those things involve relating to other people. Anything that increases the chance that my feats and skills will be confused with someone else means that they immediately get genericized. I'm not the Lemur Lad people ask to team, or the one they ask questions, I MIGHT be that one, or I MIGHT be the one people avoid like the plague. Or someone who goes to find me may find someone impersonating me by mistake and I may end up getting blamed for things I didn't do or say.I don't want to cross the line and tell you "how to feel," but you may want to reconsider how much to value uniqueness of appearance or name. Doesn't your real value come from other sources - resourcefulness in battle, personal relationships you have forged, knowledge of the game, etc.?
What I really value is feeling secure. A system that makes it easier for people to spoof or be spoofed does not add to that. -
Here are some basic premises behind this post:
1) When old school Kora Cave missions went away, the devs hinted we'd see new types of Inspiration.
2) When Heroes and Villains couldn't Trade, it was hinted we'd see new Inspirations.
3) When the Inventions system launched, it was hinted we could potentially make anything, including (you guessed it) Inspirations.
4) There are certain buffs that don't work well as a flat out Inspiration like we're used to.
5) We still haven't seen new kinds of Inspirations
6) I would like to see new Inspires that increase the number of available choices for playstyle.
Global vs Specific buffs
So here we go. The first new category could involve buffs that are 'too strong' to be global buffs, but would work well on a limited basis.
- Currently, Masterminds can drag Inspires to their Minions.
- We also have at least one Inspire that waits around for something to happen then triggers (Christmas Debt Protection).
- We also have non-stacking buffs and buffs that lock out rebuffing for a certain window after their used (Mystic Fortune and Wentworth TP).
What I'm suggesting is similar technology to those things. Inspirations that get dragged onto a specific power and apply to that power alone for the next time (or times) it is used.
- Recharge: Most people realize a flat out stackable Global Recharge buff would be too strong. However how many times have you felt "If X had just recharged, I would have lived through that fight" So how about a drag and drop Inspire that instantly recharges the power then blocks another of the same Inspire from being used on that power for a certain time (for balance).
- Piercing: Currently the Defense equation looks at an attack and applies the highest Defense applicable. If possible, a Piercing Inspire would change it so if the attack hits, it checks the lowest applicable Defense.
- Phasing: This one may not be strong enough to be considered a Specific, and could work better as a global buff, but it would be cool to have a buff that lets attack(s) hit a Phased target.
- Targets: a short term increase to the Target Limit of a given power.
- Autohit: self explanatory, the attack will hit the next time it's fired, or for the next X seconds. Or at least has a bounded max toHit.
Those are the first 5 ideas I have. I'll write some more once I think on them more. -
Quote:That's a nice little story, but interesting in that while it's what was going on in the forum at the time, it has almost nothing to do with why the section got moved and why it's where it is.Someone doesn't know their S&I forum very well:
That was by ArcticFahx, I think.
And as for the giant costume request thread? Do you think it became 550+ pages overnight? JLove is renowned for actually reading new posts that make it his way.
Since the committee is no more, I feel like I can talk a bit about what happened now. If I'm wrong, Ocho or Niv can edit my post, and it won't bother me in the least.
Part of the way Ex Libris and Lighthouse got things done was to gather small groups of players for specific topics and set up a private section that let them have discussions and feedback without the full hurly burly of the open forum. PERC, PvPEC, and the City Scoop are all examples of this. However the starting point for it all was the Forum Planning Committee. A small group of players that discussed ideas for making the forums better. Most of the other committees came from ideas we kicked around in there. We didn't have secret powers, we didn't get people banned, we mainly pointed out things that were good about the forums and found ways to boost them, and found things that weren't so good and tried to fix them.
Probably our biggest failure was the S&I forum. Long before the events quoted by Sigium, we noticed the change in tone here. Things flat out weren't as nice as they used to be. The negativity had a lot to do with many many posters, not just a few bad apples. We came up with a lot of possible solutions, and it's mainly coincidence that things were getting as bad as the quote above happened around the same time we were discussing things.
Based on what we'd been kicking around Ex Libris came up with her plan, and posted it here. A large (really large) number of players saw a more formalized process as interference. They really really did not want their toy taken away. Some saw it as a form of forum PvP. They liked shooting down ideas. They didn't even take the opportunity Ex gave them to help form the new version of the forum, they just got very very nasty about any changes.
So it was made clear, that the occasional good idea wasn't worth the aggravation to the mods or the people who wanted the tone of the discussion to improve. The section got moved from Player Help to For Fun! and that's where we are today. Don't for a moment think that doesn't mean it's unread and unseen by the devs though. They do see a good portion of what's said. The key is, you can't expect responses, and you can't expect a dialogue. They simply don't have time in their workday to interface with thousands of players.
So what can we as players do? The simple fact is, bad ideas still float, good ideas still sink. If you really want to see the profile of the section change, you need to make a personal choice to contribute and discuss the good ideas, and don't get wrapped up in arguing about the bad ones. Do more than just bump good threads, or say I like this, or I agree. Sit and think and put in a portion of the time the OP put into the good post, and add some feedback.
The FPC is gone, and until Paragon hires a new Community Manager, we probably won't see major changes to the forum structure and practices. It's great to see some people still feel like this section could be a lot more than it is. However don't treat it as an Us v Them situation, and the devs don't listen, realize that it's your fellow players who are largely responsible for the way things are. -
Quote:Safeguard badges - Ignoring the group in the lobby and taking out the vault group before they breach the vault prevents the timer from starting, giving you all the time in the world to get that exploration badge and sides badges. (not sure if there as a similar thing for mayhems)
Low lvl "hidden" mobs on high lvl characters - If you have out leveled certain mobs like magma lord and corolax that only pop out when aggroed, get a team with a toon in their level to run ahead of you and just pick them off when they come out.Quote:Except the white Igneous aren't the ones for the badge. You need the bosses - red magma dudes. They can be found by looking for fiery patches of ground and you need a way to draw them out (damage aura, location targeted AoE, right level range, etc).Quote:Another option for finding the 'hiding' mobs is find a friend with a damage aura/rapidfire pbaoe. They're actually not that hard to spot- the Coralax make splashes when they spawn, and the Igneous are... well, white blobs on the brown dirt.
1) someone within aggro range (lowbie character)
2) damage aura
3) drop power (location targeted AoE)
4) taunt aura
5) any debuff or mezz aura
6) combat pets
7) veteran buff pets
anything I missed? -
Has anyone else seen this? I'm sorry if it was a patch note I missed or if there's another thread, I just wanted to comment since I hadn't seen it mentioned:
I have been logging characters in and out the last couple of days, and I noticed that the game is remembering my password without me having to type it.
Trying to figure out if it's just me, or if it was intentional, or if it's an unintended bug. Personally I think it's pretty cool. -
Quote:I got Working Class Hero and Luddite Overlord just last week. There are plenty of good names to be had out there.I have noticed that when I create a new character that the hardest part of character creation has been finding a name that is not already in use. If there is anything a player wants it is unique character with a cool name. I do not like the idea of throwing a number after a name just to have a certain title. How about a name generator or giving veteran players some priority on names. I am sure there are pleanty of dead accounts that are soaking up some very cool names. Just a suggection.

I've beaten two Ballistae in two different missions in the last two days. Double check it's approx hit points and make sure it's spawning as an EB then keep trying, because it's doable for sure.
I will note, that even as a true EB, the Ballistae does have an attack similar to the Nemesis Staff in terms of KB and lots of damage in one fell swoop. If that hits, the fight is usually over quickly. -
I regularly make level 15 IOs at level 12. They're as good as DOs which are the best you can buy at that time. When considering costs, remember you'd be buying DOs twice before you could get SOs at 22.

Read the entire section on that webpage. The Organization of Arachnos section has pretty specific references to how it all relates to life in the Rogue Isles. It's a matter of context, and the context of the section makes it pretty clear it's all about the Isles.
