Quote:Nope, that's not out of the ordinary, but someone standing outside the factory asking every worker on their way in if they can come work too would be. That's what we're dealing with in this case. It's solicitation, and most establishments will tell you to stop or move along if they catch you engaging in it.Think of it this way - bosses need people to work for them, and people need jobs. It's not out of the ordinary for a boss to phone people from employment agencies and interview them, just as it's not out of the ordinary for people to apply for jobs and ask to be interviewed.
This is where it steps over the line from reasonable to (slightly) intrusive. Blind Invites are generally considered bad, because they have no consideration for what the person is doing. Blind asking without consideration for who is leading, what the activity is, etc is the same kind of intrusion. In a way, it's even worse because it's not limited to a the subset of people that can be invited. It's largely indiscriminate.
I understand that the searcher has no way to know who the leader is, and who else is on the team, but that doesn't excuse it. That's an admitted flaw in the game (one I've tried to get improved more than once), however it's still bothersome when it comes at the wrong time. It hampers people's fun when a well oiled team each has to stop in turn and answer the same question from the same person over and over.
If it were simply a matter of one person interacting with one person, and using their words, I'd be ok. However it's one person getting the same fruitless answer from everyone on the team. When that's the case, you can't be surprised or bothered if your shotgun approach yields the full gamut of possible responses.
I'll accept my analogy as flawed, but so is the restaurant one. They both imply circumstances that are not in play here, and knowledge that isn't in the possession of people trying to find a team. -
You don't have a winner, because you don't seem to understand what the solution is that makes Brawl work that way. It's a custom animation script done by hand. To accomplish what you want, would mean hundreds if not thousands of custom scripts. The animation for the kick may look the same, but that's only because that was the base that was used. They'd have to make Kick with Katana, Kick with Mace, Kick with Rifle, etc etc.
They did the work with Brawl because everyone has it. Doing that work with the Fighting pool when it's optional most likely falls below the limit for tangible benefit vs the amount of time it would take. -

Quote:If you think Arcana was making belittling statements, you're at the stage where you're deliberately trying to derail the thread.I was asked to give examples of instances where someone was excluded from a team because of the lack of IO bonuses. So I sited my own experience.
I was excluded from that particular TF because my Emp was not equipped with IOs. Therefore the team leader concluded that my build was inadequate.
The second time I was excluded from a team because of my build was a LRSF. My dom was not perma so they opted not to take me.
These were two instances and I'm positive i'm not the only one that has experienced this.
While many team leaders might not be forward about their selections, they DO many times check for IO bonuses.
I'm glad you can solo-positron with SOs. I'm sure that comes with some experience. Experience I have yet to gain and many others have yet to.
While you don't agree DR is needed, I'm going to continue to disagree. I only see a widening gap between the performance of IOed and SOed builds once GR comes out and "super-powered" is included into the formula.
IO's are optional. My definition isn't incompatible with the games design. However, being at a very large disadvantage to IOed builds isn't FUN. It wasn't fun in PvP for casual gamers and that's why it was changed.
And please leave the belittling statements to the PvP threads, Arcana.
Address this point for me. Don't sidestep: The devs have specifically said they know by looking at the numbers that this system will not work in PvE. How does you repeating over and over "I really want it" change that?
Basically all you've been doing is repeating yourself without coming any compelling reasons why such a radical change would improve the game. -
Make sure the email for your master account is up to date, then petition ingame? If you explain some of the issue then you can go into detail when you get the email reply.
That's my guess. -
Since you have a nigh infinite amount of SO appropriate content, I'm sure you can't begrudge them adding some IO appropriate content. In the end all that does is get you what you want, which is teams of people who are less likely to be on uber IO builds.
-
The restaurant tables analogy doesnt really work. It's more like knocking on people's doors and asking if they have room for you to stay. You have no idea if they have a spare bedroom, you have no idea what they're up to, but you come along and ask anyway, hoping someone will say sure stay.

Quote:And I don't see how it's fair to rebalance when you haven't demonstrated that things are unbalanced in the first place. No, you didn't HAVE something like DR in order to balance IOed builds vs SOed builds back then. Now you do.
I don't see how it is unfair to balance the PvE game now when they have the ability to do it.
Thing is, I/we don't HAVE DR for PvP. It's not like it's sitting there ready to roll and they just haven't implemented it. You're making a big assumption that they'd be able to do it.
Here, tell me this. Have you tried to fight NPCs in a PvP zone since DR got put in? Do you have a concept of how the NPCs haven't been touched yet, and that ALL NPCs would have to be rebuilt to account for DR? Any idea how much work that would entail?
Please stop making it sound like implementing DR is some kind of magic bullet. -
Quote:Actually, it isn't what they'd want. Back in those days, there were only a few specific powersets and builds people wanted to team with, and anything they felt was gimp had a lot of trouble getting teams because they had no way to compensate for a choice they made when they created the character and can't alter.Actually, the original CoH is what you want. At that time, everybody had the same stuffs.
Nowadays, even without IOs, only very rarely does anyone care what powersets you have, since the powers have been much better balanced, and people have gotten over the prejudice, because seeing IOs and SOs together has taught them that anyone can be effective with any powerset.
I'll let you in on a secret. I have characters that I've leveled all the way to 32 without investing in more than a few key enhancers. Over half the slots were empty or red. I still got on teams, and I still got compliments on my play, and I still made friends, even with people who had been spending time and money on IOing their characters. I wasn't deadweight, I wasn't a drain on the teams, but I also didn't need something like DR to make things "fair" for me versus the people with better gear. -
Why are we even arguing about this? We've already been told the following:
1) PvE content isn't going to be back modified for IOs, but that doesn't mean future content won't be designed to challenge people with them.
2) Diminishing returns as a global mechanic will not make it into the PvE game. It would necessitate a total redesign of all NPC powers on top of the changes needed for players.
3) the only time they've even considered it for PvE is for buff/debuff stacking, and even then Castle has said it would only be an extreme last resort.
The defining premise of the people in favor of it here seems to be "but better builds are better, and that's unfair!" Well I hate to tell you guys this, but everything you lay on the table as "evidence" was not only possible, but happened on a semi regular basis even before IOs. Soloing GMs and AVs? Done. Lots. Soloing against full team's worth of foes? Done. Lots. In trying to make the point that IOs are too effective, you're trying to say that SOs aren't effective enough, and that's where it breaks down for you.
The key thing you're not seeing is that all IOs do is make those feats more accessible to more Powerset combinations, and more builds. It's not just a few very skilled players with very well planned builds, it's a lot of different ATs with a lot of different methods, and lots of players with different skill levels who all have one thing in common, they've played and enjoyed the game to get where they are, and are reaping the benefits.
I really can't see how you have a leg to stand on when you're arguing that more people doing more incredible things with the character they pick instead of a specific uber powerset, is somehow UNfair. IOs are the great equalizer, and arguing that we need to pound them down in the name of some ephemeral idea of fairness, is silly. -
Quote:This is how I feel. If I'm soloing and I didn't hide from search or set my flag, then no harm no foul, since it's on me. If someone starts sending tells to all an sundry, whether they're teamed or not, it's a distraction with a very low chance for hitting on a team/person that can invite you.Personally I don't like when people ask to join my team. I never invite them, and always /ignore them if they persist. However, I don't bother being rude to them.
If I'm on a TF, the last thing I want to see is everyone stopping for a moment because they all have to respond to the guy who is just running down the list and we all have to send out "no sorry team full" or "no sorry on a TF"
The person sending the tells may have the best intentions and be very polite, but that doesn't change the fact they're interrupting someone who is clearly engaged. (grayed out in the search window).
Personally I rely on my global channels, or my friendlist and don't indiscriminately send messages to everyone who shows on search. -
I don't think so. I'm not a Claws guy, but it does have a good amount of knockdowns and knockback as I recall.

Quote:For the mutant pack power I would like a combined "mini-fitness" power. +Run/Jump/Health and Stam regen (or +max health and Stam) something not as powerful as the actual pool, obviously, but enough to make it worth 10 bucks. +5 - 10% to all would be good, I'd think.
The chances of a permanent autopower buff with no downside, as part of a booster pack are less than zero I'd say. -
Quote:Yes Typed Defense builds are viable. It used to be a lot harder to boost them up with IO sets, but since defense bonuses were changed to haloed, it's easier to find bonuses in many sets.is there really that big a difference? i want to play an energy aura brute but have heard elemental defense is not good. if i want a defense based character i should go SR or SD. I already have those.
edit: i mean really... i just want to know if it is a viable choice.
I think my biggest "mistake" in my /EA brute was having Energy Melee. It's not a set I've enjoyed as much as others. If you pick a Melee set with some good reliable mitigation (knockdowns, area effects), then it's easier to take lots of things out more quickly and that makes your Defense set a lot more survivable. -
Quote:You may or may not PvP, but 3 new zones with stuff to do for heroes and villains is pretty significant. Especially considering the heroes had the zones to themselves until there were some villains to fight against. That's a double handful of new badges, plus new missions to do as an alternative older content.Though, CoV was released with an issue (the issue did little if you didn't have CoV of course).
Plenty to do without owning CoV. -

I'd like to see working clocks throughout the game world as part of Ultra Mode, with a switch you can set in Options between paragon time and real time.

Quote:Well clearly in those circumstances, the Hive wouldn't be a true zone nor would it be a true instanced map. Someone may take control, but it would be just as easy for someone else to start their own raid. Please, God, no. I appreciate everyone that steps up to a leadership role in a raid but I don't want any one person to hold the keys to the Hive.
However I do think it's important to come up with some way to handle things so that A) it's easier to manage teams and B) disconnects don't instantly mean you're SOL when you were there for the whole raid but someone else was clicking on the gate when you DC'd. -
I'd hate to think that someone could be immortalized for going AFK from mission 2 to mission 4 and coming back right at the end, because of their cat, and have that be written up in song and story as part of the history of the game.

Quote:I like these ideas. Ideally speaking I would prefer a full on Raid Leader mode that lets a leader and deputies handle invites and team shuffling, as well as keeps the zone under control such that if someone leaves or DCs they can come back. However barring that, a field hospital would be ideal.[*]Zone 'invasion' after a Hami defeat. It would also make sense that all the DE would go bonkers after Hami has been defeated.
Having all the DE in the open zones act more aggressively and possibly debuffed would also add a sense of accomplishment to finishing a raid.[*]Put a field hospital near the entrance but only rez to a sliver of health, and mezzed just like a tier 1 awaken.
This would help for people who mistakenly click out of the zone while others are trying to get into a full zone. Not a big deal for experienced raiders but always sad to see someone who clicks out and loses their spot.
-
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you:
Tin Mage
I'm not 100% happy with the colors, but I like the look. Based on the comments in his letter, I made him a Rad/Elec Blaster. I think anyone willing to blow themselves up should be a Blaster. -
I got Tin Mage today. I totally stole if from the mods and their Omega Team letters.
