  1. Malta spawn all around Peregrine Island, but spawns in the low 40's are very rare. Your best bet may be to try and get a radio mission vs. Malta in that zone.
  2. I don't agree with almost everything Heraclea says, but I do agree that influence is the least valuable currency. Its value degrades over time due to inflation, and even if you can afford something on the market, the supply may be limited or nonexistant (like many Pool Cs in unpopular sets or at levels below 50 are right now).

For this reason you should avoid buying cheap Pool As with Merits. It makes sense you should buy from the market where possible and and avoid spending merits because they are the most valuable and hoardable currency. The exception is if you need large amounts of influence to buy things that are only available on the market (purples, PvP IOs, etc).

I doubt it, because supply did not rise, and prices did not fall. What happened was I was trying out a new niche and overestimated demand due to a blitz of sales very early in the weekend. So I invested what I considered a "normal" amount for a crafting niche, for an item which is going to move a lot slower than I thought.

Normally I would just dump the stock and move on, but I'm working with less slots and money than usual so I'm hesitant to play as aggressively as I usually do. I'll give it a few days

In short, in reaching the goals for your investment scheme, is competition a factor you need to be constantly on the eye out for?
Competition is a factor, but it's impossible to say how much market changes are due to competition and how much is just caused by trends in the behavior of the playerbase. For example, in the past two weeks, school has started, CO open beta has started, i16 open beta has started, and the effects of DXP are beginning to wear off. So it's possible that the large market movements you've seen are due to people moving into your niches, but it's just as likely that a combination of people being busy with school/CO/test server, pre-new issue player apathy, and the DXP windfall coming to an end have caused demand to shrink and competition to become more apparent.

That said, I have ramped up my blueside marketeering heavily in the last week.
  4. If you are buying random rolls for sale (vs. for personal use), you should wait till you're level 50 to buy them. With few exceptions, recipes at less than maximum level typically sell for less and take longer to sell than those at maximum level.
  5. Week 2 (24 Aug to 31 Aug)

    Liquid cash: 10,338,369
    Market bids: 67,537,035

I've left flipping behind (mostly), and am revving up the crafting engine now.

I made a miscalculation during the weekend, which has slowed things down abit and tied up a few slots. I'm counting on the next weekend to make up for lost progress.
  6. You can, with careful maneuvering and a little luck, stand such that you are in range to melee Rommie but still outside of the autohit Nictus' Mire attack - especially now that melee range is 7ft. It's how I've fought Rommie without getting killed on my SR (those times I did get killed horribly, now...)
  7. I don't think of this as work. If I did, I'd be charging all of you... in legal tender, not makebelieve videogame money

  9. That's odd. Have you tried logging out completely, then logging in again by re-entering your account name and password?

If nothing works, you may need to contact customer support.
  10. This very rarely happens to me as well. If you back out to the server selection screen, then re-select your server, it usually fixes itself.
  11. All high-level uncommon salvage is a gold mine right now.

Make your fortunes before i16 hits!
  12. Do you guys think so? 100m is not that big a sum in a world where one can get 1500 tickets a mission and the right PVP IO drop would net you a billion. TopDoc reported his hourly income to be 60m or some other hilariously large figure, and this was before AE. I am very much still in the little leagues.

Besides, income is going to be divided six ways. In order to give each of you 100m per biweekly dividend payout, I'd need to make 1.2bn a month (which is at the far upper limit of my ability, based on previous experience). It'll be interesting to see if I can do that well, especially now that i16 is so close and comes with the third major change to our reward systems in the past 12 months.

I'm flattered and happy that you're pleased. But let's stay sober because interesting times lie ahead.

The next such investment scheme that I'll run will only be for members of a private global channel that I'm part of. I'm also working on a few other projects, including purpling out a friend's characters, so my attention is occupied for the foreseeable future. Maybe some other bored marketeer will step up?

    I16 Dos n Don'ts

The first thing I'm going to do is recolor all my Aim/Build Up to match my characters' powersets.

I'm also turning all my Empathy powers silver/gold.

I don't think it's silly for weapon sets to suffer from nuke crashes. It's pretty reasonable to be out of ammunition after firing off a billion arrows or your entire magazine and need to reload.
  15. The best of /Fire are Ring of Fire, BU, Fire Sword, Fire Sword Circle, and Consume.

Fire Sword Circle is a very good PBAoE attack; however, it does slightly less damage than Fire Breath and you will have more trouble catching enemies in its radius. Fire Sword is a decent ST blap. Consume is very nice for recovering from your nuke's crash (use Inferno, eat a blue, hit the surviving bosses with Consume, continue blasting), but the long recharge means that you can't rely on it to solve endurance problems.

Burn has a 8ft radius, is a DoT, and causes scatter. I found it impractical to use as an attack on my Blaster for those reasons and you cannot use it while in the air (if you took Fly). I have no experience with Combustion.

On my Blaster I have both Hot Feet and Blazing Aura. They add decent damage without eating up valuable animation time in combat. But it's hard to recommend them in general. They are very endurance intensive (Blazing Aura is flat out broken; it does less damage than the Scrapper version for a greater endurance cost), and to make them useful you need to stand around in the middle of large spawns, rather than jousting PBAoEs or jumping out to use Fire Breath. And the advantage they offer is negated if you have to constantly retoggle them. You should probably skip them unless you're really sure what you're doing.

I spent the week flipping salvage to build up funds. It's safe and not risky, but it's poor income by any standards. I haven't crafted anything yet since I can't spare the slots to bid on materials.

It's going slower than I'd hoped (I thought I could hit 150m by the end of the week with a little luck), but progress is steady. By the end of Week 2 I hope to be in full production or very nearly there.

Now I kind of wish I'd did this redside, where money is raining from the sky.

    So far, so good!

    Build Advice

Sorry, I only just noticed that you were asking for PvP advice. You should ignore ignore everything I said for PvP, since I know nothing about it and the rules there are much different than in PvE.

This is what I get for posting while not fully awake >.

    Build Advice

Is there a reason you slotted heavily for Psi defense? I really doubt it's useful on a Blaster, and you would be better off focusing on other defense. Ranged is good if you're comfortable with darting in and out to use your melee attacks, it's the easiest of all positional or typed defenses to slot for.

The rule of thumb is that purple sets shouldn't be 6-slotted (with the big big exception of Coercive Persuasion) because the 6th slot bonus is usually psi or toxic resistance, which isn't of much use to a Blaster. You should drop the Damage: Superior piece in most of them and add a damage proc or frankenslot to round out the enhancement values.

Devastation shouldn't be 6-slotted, either. The 5th and 6th piece bonuses are useless. I suggest 4x Devastation 2x Thunderstrike for the recovery bonus, or use 5x Decimations (half the HP bonus and no damage bonus, but +6.25 recharge and has an endurance bonus), or use 6x Thunderstrike (+3.75 ranged defense).

You took Tough and Weave, and 6-slotted Numina's, but otherwise passed up a lot of opportunities to get defense bonuses. Slotted Weave on its own is only 5% defense, which isn't noticeable, and unless stacked with defense bonuses it's just an endurance hog.

If you're slotting mostly for survivability, then add more defense and try to softcap it (45% Range defense): Mako's 6-slotted will grant a range defense bonus, TP Foe and Recall 2-slotted with Blessing of the Zephyr grants another range defense bonus, 6-slotted Red Fortune in Weave is another range defense bonus, and you can also consider using Thunderstrike in your ST attacks too. Get a Steadfast Res/Def in Tough. (Also, frankenslot some EndRdx in Tough and Weave. My Blaster, who runs Hot Feet and Blazing Aura, has less endurance consumption than you.)

You should swap one of the EndMod IOs in Stamina for a Performance Shifter Chance for +End. Over time, it'll grant more endurance.
  19. Well-played, OP. Business is war!
  20. OK, here's my attempt. I kept your power choices and order.

Defense is 47/48.8/47. It has 3% less recovery and 1.5% less HP, but you gain 10% more recharge and now have 304% regen, as well as better-slotted Hasten. Endurance consumption is the same, move and jump speeds are almost the same. I think it has better DefDebuff resistance since the passives are better slotted. It ought to be cheaper as well since you are not buying Impervium Armors and Kinetic Combats.

I swapped out your Kinetic Combats for Crushing Impacts. I also added a Achiles Heel proc in Gambler's Cut; the debuff is really good against single hard targets, but you can ignore it if price or market availability is a problem.

Combat Jumping only needs one slot; the 2% speed from Springfoot is barely noticeable. Practiced Brawler only needs one slot as it is comfortably permanent even with Hasten turned off.

Like Whisky Jack says, 5-slotting Gaussian's is a waste. I 6-slotted it for you (you can move the set to Focused Acc if you prefer; I prefer the proc to fire when I use build up and not randomly). (And yes, you can slot stealth IOs in Sprint, it works. )

Gaussian's Rech/End will be impossible to find since it is a Pool C. You should start placing bids very early if you don't already have it yet.

  21. The Kinetic Combats will be expensive, and they are primarily typed defense. With Fighting pool, you can almost certainly squeeze out enough melee defense that you don't need them.

How badly do you need the +Regen? Remember that the +Regen uniques in health are boosted by enhancements in that power. If you want a high regeneration build, you should consider heavily slotting Health to get the most out of them.

Let me try and tweak this for you, just a few minutes...
  22. Mother Mayhem, in an MA arc made by a friend. It was one of the first content I did after respeccing into my high-end build.

The first thing of note I soloed was actually a Pylon. I was coming back from an LGTF, wandered by Pylon 17, and thought: wait a minute... I can take that.
  23. Is there a reason you took both Swift and Hurdle? You can drop Swift and take Combat Jumping instead (1-slot with a Defense SO) which gives you decent vertical movement and air control and adds a little defense.
  24. Quote:
The objection to the ranged DEF build on the basis that you'd lose effectiveness on Blazing Aura and Hotfeet, of all powers, strikes me as particularly amusing -- as if those slow, low-damage, PBAoE DoTs are an integral part of any Blaster's arsenal. Even Blappers shouldn't, as a general rule, be sitting in melee range for extended periods of time; they should be leaping in and out of melee, which dramatically diminishes the offensive benefit of those DoT powers.
I didn't say that, and I don't think anyone did. If this is a reply to me, then you misread my post. My point was that it's hard to build for melee defense as well, since it's not practical to slot Obliteration in those powers. I only bring this up because speaking about softcapped defense in general, I found it very hard to softcap any sort of defense, ranged or melee, on a Fire/Fire, and the softcapped builds that I've previously seen all paid heavy prices for it (e.g. skipping Fire Breath).

Now that I've actually seen the build you posted, though, I'll concede that it's pretty good and much better than any of my own attempts. I've changed my opinion.
