Just a note, Aurora (the one Jean helped) is already in control of Tyrka's body. In the Villain arc, you find out she was flung out of SP's mind right before she died (she says she didn't know why SP did that), and you rescue her from Tyrka, then weaken Tyrka enough for her to be taken over.
  2. As Immortalus says, use a bind instead of a macro. This means your mouse doesn't have to move anywhere, except to select the target location. Personally, I never click the buttons with my mouse during battles, I either use the default number/alt+number/ctrl+number binds, or ones I've created myself.
  3. This... would be a hilarious addition to the Halloween event. It would have to, of course, only actually work if the target was successfully slept (maybe also should include a tiny damage component, to prevent people from, say, turning Kronos into a pumpkin... or maybe it shouldn't, just so we can turn Kronos into a pumpkin ).

That's making the assumption that the SSAs are a drain of the resources. If the SSAs allow them to better advertise the game (thus drawing in more players, and more profit), and make more money (from Preems buying them), then stopping the SSAs could result in a net loss of new content (ignoring that SSAs are content).

And considering that the SSA was some of the best content I've played in this game in years... I say more SSAs.

If you use the computer for more than gaming (Microsoft Office / Minesweeper / "Facebook" don't count) then you could quite realistically use more (I regularly have a number of large VMs running at once!).

Although I did remember one game that's 64bits: Minecraft Not sure how much memory it actually uses in practice (never bother checking), but it warns you that on max render distance it'll often crash on 32bit JVMs... but I think that might just be because the JVM sucks (or it could be a difference between the client & "server" JVM).
  8. You're still VIP until then, so yeah, it should have no impact. You just won't be renewing automatically once it's over.

How many games out there can take advantage of >32bit process address space? Pretty much all games are still 32bits (I can't recall any 64bit ones...), and I doubt any use AWE to use more then the normal limit for 32bit processors. Even dual boxing most won't be pushing the limits of an 8GB system, much less a 16! I'd hazard a guess that by the time 16GB starts becoming a problem, you'd be ready to upgrade your OS anyways.
  10. Thanks all!

I'm pretty sure I still have the code somewhere... I might revisit it, especially since in a couple months I'm going to be having to write some Android apps anyways. :

    SeKret!!!!

Okay, might as well spill it, since it looks like it'll be delayed a little bit (woo Google doing upgrades ). The feature would be to allow you to select servers to subscribe to, so that the next time they came back up, a notification would be pushed to your phone (nearly) instantly notifying you! Ideal for morning and emergency maintenance!
  11. In my experience, USB wireless adapters are generally complete and total trash. I'd definitely go with an internal wireless card if you could (definitely go with an 802.11n and router, dual channel if possible, because 5GHz often has less interference than 2.4GHz).
  12. Since the dawn of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun. While I can not come before you today and profess that I have destroyed the sun, I have, in fact, done the next best thing. What I have done is a wonder unlike any other... I have created an incantation that will allow your two way communicator (long as it begins with a lowercase "i") to instantly, and effortless view the status of all the City of Heroes servers!

City Status is an app for iOS (not tested it on any < 5.0 devices, if anyone has one and it doesn't work let me know!) that lets you view the status of all (NA & EU) servers. It's perfect for those mornings where you get up, thinking you're going to get in some early Heroing/Villaining, only to be greeted with the red letters of doom, as the servers shut down! Now you can go about doing other things, and simply glance at your phone to find out if they're up!

    Some screen shots:

A list of servers with several hidden.

"Edit" mode, with Defiant being moved to the hidden list (nothing personal!).

    Freedom being deleted.

I'm already hard at work on a new feature that I think a lot of people will like (I'll let it be a surprise for now!), but if anyone has any feature requests, feel free to post 'em.

Download it from the App Store today! Or else!!!!!
  13. I had written up a nice long post, but, sadly I hit 'preview' instead of 'submit' and left it there for several hours, only to come back to find I was logged out when I hit 'submit'

So, the short version of what I wrote:

Statesman and Sister Psyche never had any real character development (at least until post-Cryptic, with Positron in charge). They were incredibly bland, flat, generic characters that were completely inhuman. As others have said, wtf was their motiviation for doing what they do? Not what flag do they fly under, but their actual motivation. The characters were boring, and, quite frankly, I've never liked Statesman, all the way back to when I first started playing City of Heroes.

It's really a problem with the entire Freedom Phalanx. Manticore by far has the most depth of any of them, and... he's seriously pretty cliche, rocking the quasi-vig batman-with-a-bow thing. Manticore has had far more direct involvement with the player than any other member of the Freedom Phalanx, appearing in the flesh in a variety of story arcs, and interacting with the player (I quite liked him in the Twinshot's Shining Stars arcs).

I enjoyed all the WWD arcs. Getting to play with Synapses powers was fun (they kind of sucked, though ), along with the floating ships, going into Sister Psyche's mind, going to the mooooooooon, getting to personally execute an old hero, and a load of other things. They were fun. I do have a few complaints, but they're nothing major: Rulawade needs to be buffed (GW and PY were both tougher), they need a graphic for the Apocalypse Beam (I thought it was bugged and not firing...), and on the mission where you go to the Chantry, the waypoint needs to be selected by default.

So maybe if Statesman and Sister Psyche had ever been developed I'd actually care if they died (I cared more about Jean, and beating up the Shining Stars!). The very little bit of cannon character development they've had was done under the guide of Positron (and maybe Warwitch, I don't recall when she took over). You could have replaced them with cardboard cutouts and no one would have noticed a difference in their depth (didn't Nemesis practically do that once?).

How can the statement "someone will die" be false? The only way is if no one dies. People often jump to the assumption that 'someone' means 'only one', but that's, grammatically, not what's actually being said in the slightest. The false assumption is especially grating if you're familiar with formal logic, where the difference between "one" and "one and only one" is incredibly important.

This also ties in with your next comment..about being under their thumbs. Clearly you are playing a different game to me. Sure, you work with them on a good portion of TFs, but other than that..Oh wait, how about Marias arc, where you SAVE states? Yes..saving = totally under their thumb.
"Hey, could you get a bunch of your friends together and go out to get some milk for me? I'd totally do it myself, but... okay, I'll level with you. I'm not going to waste my time with this crap. That's why we have chumps like you." - Summarized version of every Freedom Phalanx TF's contact dialog

FYI: There's a massive difference between "losing" (but win in the end) and "lose". Lose means YOU DO NOT WIN. The "losing" you speak of is "winning dramatically" (but predictably, because the same trick is done every time).

So the only example you can give is a single arc from back near the launch of the game... oh, yeah, that's quite a lot! It's been a common complaint for a long time that we were always just under the Freedom Phalanx. It's only been more recently that the heroes have lost any sort of ground... and even that's just been token concessions, while generally just winning the day with no real repercussions.

That's what makes me think it was an act of spite.
We don't need more Mary Sue from Statesman. This was, really, one of the better ways to handle his death... stripped of his powers, so he can finally take a rest from the non-stop fighting. It was a nice cathartic ending for him.

No one would be surprised. I would have put more money on 'no one dying' than 'someone dying'. If someone died, Statesman was the obvious and logical choice (seeing he's absurdly over the top). Neither of those outcomes would have been surprising.

It would have been like every crappy TV 'drama' that in every commercial implies a major character will die, but never touch a hair on any of their heads. And everyone will have forgotten by the next week.

To those people taking about how it is good the FP 'got taken down a peg'...given how seriously incompetent the SSAs make them all out to be..taking them down a few pegs surely puts them in the negative territory right?
The Freedom Phalanx was a giant Mary Sue. Manticore was the closest thing to a human in the group, and he's just filling the token role. They're a horrible cliche that's used far too often (good guys never lose- and never change).

They were also a major problem from the PoV of hero players... you were always under the Freedom Phalanx. Even as you became an Incarnate, you were still less than all of the Freedom Phalanx. With them shattered, heroes don't have that glass ceiling on them that made no sense with the events of the last 10 issues. The Devs now need to do something to shake up Arachnos. Not necessarily kill anyone, but something to change the status quo.
  20. I approve of killing both of them off. States needed to die, and the Freedom Phalanx needed to be hit harder than just States leaving. SP dying, along with Manticore being left seriously messed up (repeatedly having the crap beaten out of him if you're a villain) will knock the Freedom Phalanx down the several notches that they needed to be.
  21. For normal content, packing in as much +def as you possibly can would be a pretty good idea. For Incarnate content... you'll probably have to make some serious compromises to be able to get enough +def in there to make a serious impact (seeing as they have boosted tohit). Then again, there's enough AoE buffs being thrown around in Incarnate content that you should often be way past the Incarnate soft cap even with no toggles on.

At this point, I'd say EM/ is probably at the bottom of the primaries (if not the worst), and /regen is pretty low on the list for secondary (especially when you're talking maximum performance, due to the clickie nature). Combined, I wouldn't be surprised if Em/Regen is the worst combo, because as you said Em/ has very long animations, and /regen often requires very quick reflexes... meaning there'll be a lot of times where you have something ready, but can't use it.

would lead to better player retention
What do you think keeps causing my sub to lapse over the last year? Exactly this.

What keeps causing me to leave? I'll log on, a character that I'm wanting to work on, that I love the concept for and enjoy and... I'm stuck soloing. The people I knew are all long since gone from the game, so I can't just team with them (unless I plan on switching MMOs...). I then only have two options: Solo or PuG. As much as people diss puging, it still easily trumps soloing from my point of view. Sadly, forming a pug has become progressively harder and harder, especially now with freedom.

All the global channels I've been in for years have largely died (still a good number of players in them, but no one ever uses it to form things, or just talk). People only ever use /help, which is utter trash. It's just full of noise- people talking about random things nonstop, and full of spam (not RMT spam, just random messages people throw in).

At this point, I'm thinking there's going to be a pretty good probability that I won't be renewing my sub at the end of the month (and also not playing as a preem), simply because teaming is a pain. I don't want to spend forever trying to scape together a team, or be stuck grinding DFB, or half-***** farm. The shame is that I'm loving playing the new stuff, and still want to do the First Ward content which I didn't finish before, along with all the new iTrials, plus leveling my StJ/EA Stalker (the first stalker since my old, pre-ET nerf EM/Nin that felt like it could do serious damage... and it makes even that pale in comparison, while not feeling like an old Defiance 1.0 blaster in the survivability department).

I think you missed the part where "irregardless" is labeled as a "nonstandard" word. And the part at the bottom that goes even further, saying it's "an erroneous word that, etymologically, means the exact opposite of what it is used to express [blah blah blah]". Not exactly a resounding endorsement, if I've ever heard one
  24. A bit slower would be nice, I found myself getting caught up a few times... there was also at least one of the overlaid messages that appeared directly over a prior one, and they interacted weirdly, making the text of both all mashed together, making BOTH unreadable... very weird!

You already can, mostly. Open the missions tab -> click the mission -> click details (doesn't show for in-mission dialog conversations, but I see that they started having the NPC speak the important parts into chat with SSA), or alternatively click the red star. It's a bit buggy (it'll reload, slowly, every time someone on your team changes instances), but it does work for 99% of the content in the games (only new ones use the in-mission click-and-talk-to-them mechanic).

Unfortunately, it also missions the mission-completion dialog, and arc-completion dialog. The current version is pretty crummy... This is why I prefer to solo new content the first time through when possible.
