  1. IIRC, Castle once commented on this saying something along the lines of not having a way to be able to reliably turn different knockback powers into knockdown with an IO, due to the different magnitudes of the powers (using the current system percentage system, of course).

Personally, I think knockback is way underrated, but I know I'm about 1 of 5 people in the entire game that think that (when done right it can produce better results than KD, but when done wrong it can produce results worse than simply going afk- and it's easy to get wrong), so something probably should be done (at the very least to make it a bit harder to get horribly wrong- but definitely not to remove kb (no one suggested that in this thread, but it has been suggested in the past... just saying )).

I actually think there's a very good solution to this problem for this game. Since we're not out there to collect some livers for liverless dogs, we can easily write off ninja-ing by thinking about our objectives... Lets give an example scenario to illustrate how I'd think a system like this'd work.

    • You get an open-world mission to 'bring Archon Morrison out of hiding and defeat him'
    • You go out hunting Council soldiers
    • After X number of soldiers are killed, Archon Morrison is spawned (as an ambush to you/your location for this scenario)
    • Archon Morrison is defeated by you, and the mission is successful.

That's all well and good, but lets throw a bone in it:

    • You get an open-world mission to 'bring Archon Morrison out of hiding and defeat him'
    • You go out hunting Council soldiers
    • After X number of soldiers are killed, Archon Morrison is spawned (as an ambush to you/your location for this scenario)
Different: Archon Morrison is wiped out by a +40 Spines Scrapper that ran by with Quills on and was 1 shotted without the Scrapper ever even noticing him... and the mission is still successful, because Archon Morrison was still defeated. You'll still receive any temp powers/badges/etc, you MIGHT get slightly reduced XP/Inf mission-completion bonus... but I don't really see that as required, since it'd be the same as having a level 50 enter a level 10's mission and quitting the team and doing the mission for you (IIRC, you'd still get the full rewards in that situation, just not the enemy kill xp/inf obviously).

To minimize the situations where somebody else defeats them, for ambushes you can simply spawn the group close to where you are (so they don't have to run for a mile and possibly get lost/stuck). For ones that aren't ambushes (i.e. you're told the location to find them, possibly with a marker on your map), wait to actually spawn the group until someone from the team is within a certain distance.

The contact could have slightly different dialog in this case, like for a villains dialog the contact can joke about how amazing you were, to be able to get some other schmuck do your work for you without realizing it (and it amused them so much they'll still pay you the full amount anyways). For heroes, the contact can focus on you pulling them out of hiding, and downplaying on who defeated them personally as not being as important. Story-wise, don't write it in a way that you must to personally defeat them (i.e. stealing the cape on the villain cape mission would flat out not be practical, 'cause you need to steal the cape), for missions where that's required for the story, they can just be instanced.

For a glowie... I think that should be shown on your map (unless it's supposed to be in a very certain area, like a certain clearly defined base, to prevent it from being 'Find a box in Crey's Folly' nonsense). In addition, I think that the glowie should only be shown to the mission holder and her team (at the very least, only glowing for them, if it's a static part of the environment normally). This should prevent any possible ninja-ing, since it couldn't be stolen by someone else.

Might need some tweaks, but I think these methods are pretty close to a nice middle ground between 'instance in the world' and 'ninjas gone wild', so that even though people can ninja, it wouldn't hinder you.

No thanks, I like the clicky clicky speedy speedy nature of Kinetics, 2 minutes is plenty long enough for me.
I gotta agree with this. I actually enjoy keeping it cast on everyone (same with the Thermal shields... except those last long enough that I always forget to recast them, or end up recasting them about 4x too often!), it's a nice change from the tedium of just mindlessly spamming powers for me.

Depends on the power. Some powers also have an effect when it hits the target (like the swirly things when you use siphon power, or the banana sticking out of them when you use impale). With an invisible enemy those would still show (you can still seem them in the i16 power editor, which is funny 'cause it'll often outline the invisible target), which admittedly the OP might not actually want.

No, you misunderstood. I didn't say 'I want to use an (overly bloated) application to keep track', I said 'I want to write a (redundant) application to keep track'

Ya see, it'd be a nice change of pace from only writing incredibly complicated low level junk (i.e. a physical memory manager) and incredibly obscenely high level demo applications (i.e. something showing off the use of a 'loop' in a language that makes BASIC look like brain[censored] by comparison), which have been mostly all I've been working on lately.
  6. Sure, it's easy, but that doesn't mean it isn't time consuming. Just logging in & out all the characters on one server would take a minimum of 4-5 minutes, completely ignoring any load times, moving the character to where they need to be, or even looking up to see which badge they still need! All that adds up to a good bit of time, and when you're already don't have too much time to play (curse you social life! ) it gets a bit hard to rationalize doing it instead of other things (like making pointless videos, or posting stupid posts on the forums, or tricking people to watch hilarious videos... I had the perfect oppertunity to play that video in front of 800+ people a couple weeks ago on a massive screen with totally legit reason to do it... and I just didn't think about it! ).

None of that is to say it can't be done, but just that the amount of time, for me, isn't really worth the effort for the reward for the vast majority of my characters (I really don't care that much for badges).

(and curse you! now I wanna write a little app to keep track of which day jobs a character has! I hate you all! )
  7. A few tips: One, there's the targeting dummies in the Rikti War Zone you can use... and come i16, ANY LEVEL character can get in there.

Secondly, you could accomplish that through the magic of Demo Editing! You'd 'simply' (for values of simply that are applicable to 'accomplishing power customization' and 'soloing hamidon while drunk') record a demo of you attacking a random NPC, then edit the demo file to replace that NPC with an invisible (in the sense that they have no appearance, transparency doesn't really work in demos) entity (I think there's an npc called something like 'puddle' that has no appearnce... plus, a player character with no costume would work, IIRC). I'm pretty sure one of the demo editors (Sloth's?) can make that simplier.

Pedantic moment: You're not looking for a macro, you're looking for a command A macro is a little button that attempts to execute a string, which should consist of one or more commands

(although, I'm not against the idea of having a vanity mode of sorts to use your powers just to show off or for silly purposes)

And what effort? Just log in, move to a different location, logout.
And then repeat times 50+. And of course, you have to remember WHICH badge they still need. I do work on some of the day job badges, but only on a few characters, and even then I only go after a couple (generally which ever one would benefit them the most).

No. Day Jobs are nice, but not worth that much effort.
  10. For Valkyrie, buy the full version that includes the month free (the mac edition). For the Super Boosters, buy the Architect Edition that includes the month free and get one of those for free with it, then just buy the other.

    Toggle Changes

So, basically, make it so toggles will never drop? Seems a bit excessive to me... Might as well just change them so they're autos with a -end portion!

Oh freaking crap yes! I kept having to log in EVERY ONE OF MY CHARACTERS EVERY 60 DAYS... and it was driving me nuts!

Now I know I was simply wasting all that time
  13. IIRC, it's 60 days of simply not using WW/BM on that specific character- unless things have been changed.
  14. I don't feel any need for this... and wouldn't like to see Speed Boost nerfed either. Hell, when I play my kins I ask people to ask for SB incase I forget

In the City of Heroes folder I made a folder called "data" and in that a folder called "sound" and in that a folder called "ogg" and in that a folder called "weapons" and in that a folder called "SmallSonicBlast3.ogg" and in that a sound file called "pluck.ogg" which is a low pitched plucking sound one second long from Audacity.
I'm pretty sure SmallSonicBlast3.ogg shouldn't be a folder, but should be what you rename the 'pluck.ogg' file as.

Edit: After bothing to actually LOOK at the guide, it should be placed in data\Powers\SonicSmallBlast3.ogg (like Psychoti said)

    That's called subtlety

And, in a likely futile attempt to un-derail this thread, I don't really see much of a need to add Zero-G packs to be purchasable, and at the same time not really hugely against it or anything (mostly a 'meh' position).
  17. Quote:
For instance, rather then a 10 dollar pack of emotes and costumes, if for say 15 dollars you could buy like a IO/influence booster set. Say you for 15 dollars can pick any 5 Purple IOs and 10 Gold set peices and 10 silver (but cant duplicate selections so only like 1 LotG etc) and got like 50 million influence/infamy. But maybe limit the purchase to only use it on level 50 characters.
Hell NO to buyable inf/IOs. I don't care if they come from spammers or NCSoft.

    Quote:
It would i think also aliviate some of the cost on the markets for some of the real big purchases like Ragnoroks and stuff since the demand for them would go down.
The opposite will happen. The price of the IOs will go up to the point to equate to $15, instead of being based off of inf.

Suggested many times, and I'll continue to be strongly against this.

It's a play on words. 'Bark' in the first part generally refers to the sound a dog makes... but in the context of the second sentence, it's meaning the stuff that's on trees.

    Get it now?

Mind you, that's 100% client side, meaning everyone else would still have the same thing (so no, you can't rick roll people with Shout using that).
  20. There aren't only two 'required' badges by that logic. There's also Mistress/Master of the Airwaves for TV. There's the badge for the slot machine, and another for that doc guy... and several more. And there's even more content that's unlockable as well without the badge associated with it, like Katie Hannon, and the Midnighter's Club.

Personally, I'd prefer to see the reverse happen: Make more unlockables on blue side.

    Dual Pistols...

Might be an issue due to the mitten hands... but would be pretty damn hilarious.
  22. Interesting... I wonder if there was an attack on one of the backbones... or one of the backbones decided to be an *** and attempted to bill one of the others, thus getting it completely cut off from the internet until they realized how stupid they were being...
  23. Hell, back in the (very) old days, weren't you only able to ride the tram to the next stop, having to zone into each zone on the way to your destination? Now that'd suck!

Not to mention, less overlap of the tram systems!

This. I was a bit peeved when I switched builds, then went to rename it, and it wouldn't let me...

Not to mention, I don't have the SLIGHTEST idea what enhancements I've slotted into my Stalker's other build... hell, I can barely remember what's in my current build while looking at the enhancements screen
  25. Looks like those two neighborhoods are in Steel Canyon, not Skyway City. Not sure exactly where, though (I can never remember what neighborhoods are where...)

Also, sounds like you'd love the Villainside content, as there's pretty much none of the 'hey, go way over there and chat to that guy, then this other guy, then another guy, and another guy... and all of them are as far apart as possible from each other' (*cough*hero cap mission*cough*). Most all the recent hero content is good with regard to that as well (the really old stuff has a decent amount... at least relative to the nearly zero on red side ).
