Quote:You're correct, but Steamy Mist+SS also does that so I put GI because you can use on teamates.Todd and Kioshi, thanks so much for your answers.
It makes more sense now.
I would definitely love for somebody to create a plant/storm guide!
Kioshi, question about your build: Why did you choose Grant Invisibility instead of Stealth? I thought that Stealth + Superspeed = virtual invisibility? Am I incorrect?
Thanks again!
Or alternatively, like I do on my mind/emp and some other toons, SS+Stealth IO in Sprint also does the job without requiring picking stealth (or turning on Steamy Mist) which is quite the endurance eater. I'll go Ice Mastery on mine (the first build I posted with some tweaks like trying to find a room for a proc on Roots), I just made this one to see what I could do with ZOMG recharge and the most damaging epic (Fire) without breaking the bank too much. -
Quote:Lol I posted in 3 topics about TW that you can get the pack for free without buying the powerset the moment it went live and nobody seemed to read it, instead discussing about how this is a ripoff and stuff so I feel your painThis thread was just a heads up to grab something while it's free.
Clearly a topic worthy of rage, doom, and personal attacks.

Quote:It's been overrated since Beta.Go for what you think will be fun.
Im finding the redraw "problem" on my tw/fa overrated. Its a matter of knowing how/when to use tools. Usually, I use them after momentum(sp?) fades since you'll have some relative down-time anyway. Basically: (firy embrace when I get it) DS, attack, attack, attack, [BM or secondary power as appropriate/needed], continue to attack any survivors (LOL), A TON OF DEAD STUFF, repeat.
I may do /wp or /elec at a later time
Losing Momentum is no biggie, your next attack will have about KO Blow's cast time and that's it. Not fitting 4 attacks in momentum is no biggie either, since any other attack will grant it again.
I played a TW/Regen on Beta level bumped to 50 and found no issues whatsoever, maybe regen will only slow you down a bit if you go try to solo pylons and stuff like that where you'll want the top ST dps chain but I don't care about this, for team and soloing I don't see a problem losing momentum and I even preferred when Build Momentum was BU due to the larger damage bonus.
A Energy Melee Brute would suffer much more with clicky secondaries imo, especially regen because you have to be quick on the clickies. -
Quote:AFAIK all the immobs that have -KB have the -KB component last shorter than the immob, about half the time (looking at CoD at the Stone Cages and Roots numbers shows that - 27 secs immob base, 12 secs -KB).I hope I'm not threadjacking TOO badly, but this thread has persuaded me to roll a plant/storm controller. That, and "Local Man" contributing. I've always highly respected his input when it comes to controller slotting.
I do have a question re: Roots - I know (thanks to a team member in sewers this morning) that Roots does, indeed, have a -KB component; however, it doesn't last as long as the Immobilized component.
That being said, I'm guessing I should cast Roots and then IMMEDIATELY cast Tornado? (if I don't want them blowing away from my melee buddies)?
Or is there a better strategy? I saw in the build above that Roots is slotted with Posi Blasts and that makes sense of course.... so I'm guessing Roots is more used for AOE damage, rather than containment?
I apologize if these are dumb questions and thank you for any help you can provide.
But since roots does about double damage of other troller immobs you'll likely refresh it since it recharges quickly before the -KB part expires, and this way you'll do more AoE damage and powered by containment, all while Tornado does its thing without KBing mobs.
I made a ZOMG proc destruction+damage powers build that doesn't go after defense just to see what I could do, 1 sec short of permahasten because I didn't use any of the expensive purple sets(power order is kinda wacky because I removed Vines and replaced with Grant Invis for more slots).

SR has DDR and the +rech power and that's it.
SD has quite a bit of +maxhp (almost +20% slotted) and can easily reach 45% res to s/l (slotting deflection and tough, both have much better numbers on Tankers than Scraps/Brutes) and 24% to the rest (except psionic, but including toxic) on SOs, plus adding up to 65% damage with the taunt aura, besides having a high damaging telenuke.
A top end build can also cap DDR with HOs. Without them you still have 66% defdebuff.
Plus SR's taunt aura is weaker than Willpower (1 sec versus 1.25 sec duration), although I believe this to be a bug since the Brute version is normal, with a 13.6 secs duration.
But even if the aura is a bug, I think shields win by a mile since it's not much more expensive to softcap on a Tanker, unlike on Scrappers and Brutes where the numbers are considerably lower so you'll spend way more to cap a /SD than SR on the latter two. -

It's much better, but a couple things:
1) Energize should have max recharge;
2) In the build I posted I went Soul Mastery because Shadow Meld is awesome as a panic button to cap your defs and a good place for a Lotg +rech, you don't need Physical perfection on an ELA especially slotted for endmod because of power sink while S. Meld can be a life saver. If you wanna keep Physical Perfection you'd better slot it for heal for extra regen since endurance is not a problem with ELA, this way you can maximize your regen especially during energize;
3) I'd 3-slot Hasten and also slot Static Shield for at least a little more resistance because it's your source of psi res;
4) Conductive and Tough should be slotted for max resistance, trading the Reactive Armor endurance IO for a res/rech.
Btw, I didn't put the gladiator PvP IO in the build I made because it costs 2-3 billion, not sure if you know that, it's usually sold off-market because people pay more than the 2 billion infl limit for it.
Changing some of these would probably result in you losing one or another damage bonus, which I see you are after, but imo it's worth it. -
Thanks a lot for the answer, Hyper, I had the feeling you could enlighten me in a simpler way than me reading the tech sites, although I'd surely do my research in case you said the chips were fine for a gaming laptop. Glad you mentioned they're power hungry since I'm thinking about a laptop.
As for Mac OS X, it's an OS I really like, and yes I paid a premium price because not much reason to get a mac if you're not into OS X. And anyway since I really wanted the 27 inch iMac I'd have spent half the price of the computer on a 27 inch monitor.
But I'm probably sicker than you from the Apple fanboys around me, especially since Brazil has been rising economically and Apple has been all the rage here lately. I see the appeal of Mac OS X of course, but tbh most of the recently converted Apple using friends I have complain about viruses and freezing and etc, a problem I never had on windows (although I never used Me or Vista) - and on my previous mac I ran XP for months without going to OS X because of CoX and never had problems, despite disliking XP's interface (I like 7 a lot tho).
But if I were a serious gamer I'd have bought a PC because while I'm enjoying that for now I can run Skyrim at almost max settings for example (I can do max if I drop to 1920x1080 but at the native res from my display I have to tone down some things but it looks better in native anyway), I know it won't last long due to not being able to replace the GPU, and besides CoX it's the only PC game that has gotten me hooked for a long time- and for gaming the conversions are sucky sometimes because of those emulation shenanigans I don't understand well, I use the windows client on CoX because I can play on max 'everything' for 12 hours straight if I want, the mac client crashes about once per hour no matter what I do, I bet you checked out the flood of complaints in the mac forums here.

Quote:Lol you're saying that just because you gave me cancer on the other threadGotcha and thanks, always wondered if it was ZOMFG!!! in PvE as well.
Youre Sexy and You Know It
Anyway look at how borked it is, from city of data:
Scrapper CS:
PVE: 62.56 Smashing damage + 160.16 Energy damage
PVP: 188.88 Smashing damage + 252.34 Energy damage = 441.22
Now the closest to Scrapper, Stalker CS:
PVE: 55.61 Smashing damage + 142.36 Energy damage
PVP: 50.24 Smashing damage + 129.2 Energy damage
Stalker CS actually does LESS damage in PvP than PvE.
And just to compare, Stalker AS in PvP from Hidden:
97.32 Smashing damage + 41.71 Energy damage + 250.25 Energy damage = 389.28
Really weird right? More damage than AS, yes. And if you take another ST long cast time attack like Eagle's Claw, the closest to CS I could find in activation time that Scrappers have, it does more damage than the PvE version but not by a huge margin (funnily enough, Eagle's Claw on Scrappers/Tankers does 50% more dmg on PvP, on Stalkers the PvP version does like 20 damage less than PvE, so PvP is messed up on a lot of powers, but more on CS). -
Quote:Hey Hyper do you think the new AMD chips outperform Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge/Intel stuff or are at least competitive? Nowadays I only look at the more popular review sites and all I see is Intel talk.Well, AMD have bet the kids' college fund on their new architecture. If they don't push it and deprecate their old stuff, it's money wasted.
Granted, the platform was money wasted anyhow, but still.
I could go read anandtech and all but I'm looking for a simple answer for now - I'll probably need a notebook next year and I was an AMD fan until 2000 when I started using Apple - so I'll look for a 15.6 gaming notebook in 2012, my 27 inch imac is not exactly suited for travel (and yeah all my friends who say they have 'seen the light' because here in my country the Apple crazy began like, 2 years ago, find me strange for liking windows and preferring Android over the iPhone, I guess I just like variety. Funny thing is, I was actually flamed by lots of them on facebook when I posted 'wow Windows 7 runs really smooth on my core duo 1.66 mac' - my previous mac that was struggling with OS X - and whenever they need Apple tech support they come to me lol). -
Quote:Oh so true - I spent all the points I started with Beam Rifle, the Hoverboard and some costume sets, then I bought 1200 extra and got more auction house slots. When I thought I was done and could wait for TW (didn't care about StJ) I was all like 'oooo shiny autumm aura for my new plant/storm' and then 'ooo that gunslinger gun is perfect for my DP/Dark corr' and 'my new Katana needs to start with the Vanguard blade' (all like, 60, 80 point purchases). What? The sheer volume of items hitting the market in the last couple of months has already outpaced what a VIP is getting in their stipend, even at 550 points. The powersets alone have ensured that, before we get into any kind of costume sets or consumables.
Now I have 300 points left, not that I'm anxious for TW since while I liked it on beta, I'm not usually a melee player and have many alts to level (including my BR toon lol), but I'd guarantee you that if I was awarded 1600 points I'd buy the double enhancement tray for example (or was it 800, 1200? - I have it on beta where everything is 0 points and it's so nice).
So yeah they found out how to make us spend money since the start.
And then there's the uninformed crowd (not saying that in a bad way, most ppl don't read the forums or use mids to understand IOs deeply) - I saw a level 10 /EA Scrapper with some bonuses, one of them was a Karma -KB protection. I asked why she had a -KB IO on a /EA toon and she said 'oh I returned to the game, haven't played since i8, and I saw that was the only defense set they had and I had some free points so I bought the Karma set'. Now imagine when the player sees something he/she really wants like TW or whatnot, she'll probably spend money for that because she bought unnecessary stuff without knowing beforehand. -
Quote:Seriously, now that you can maintain Fury without even trying, on a team you won't feel you're contributing to damage less than a scrapper.I remember asking in /help what's the point of making a scrapper or tank when brutes can do either of those roles better. The general consensus was that scrappers were better melee dps for teams (they don't need stuff hitting them to get fury) and tanks were only better at "extreme tanking". Am I missing something here?
There are outliers (Elec/Shield scrapper since they benefit from +dmg and the pseudopets, SS/Fire Brute which I have one and he's crazy, but maybe a SS/SD scrapper could top it if it was possible to make one).
Me, I prefer Brutes because I prefer knowing I'll be hitting hard most of the time instead of criticals (I didn't like Brutes before the Fury change because it was much harder to build Fury and after you walked down a hallway it was all gone, now you lose half and get it back right after some punches, from you or mobs). I also prefer Brutes because being a mostly controller/corr player, I love the fact they have aggro auras and even when I'm not tanking I can protect other squishies better than my scrappers (I always pick taunt on my Broots because of that).
I find scrappers fun, but since I love damage auras, I also like that they have the taunt component on Brutes and they escalate with Fury.
But tbh I never thought any scrapper or brute was severely outperforming my scrapper/brute on a team except when I played with SS/Fires (I took a break during the elec/shield craziness so I haven't teamed with many, I only know they're great for AoE, I have a fm/sd scrapper that's very fun and can hold aggro well).

Quote:CS hits for the same damage as the 'big boys' (KO Blow, Seismic Smash, Total Focus). I think the only attacks that hit for more are Energy Transfer and CU from Street Justice with combo level (don't have StJ to check and I dunno how to see combo damage in Mids). From all those you can only have CU on scrappers, so CS is at least second place. As silly as it may look...its a pretty hard hitting set. In PvP, CS hits for like Stalker AS damage without any of the hiding stuff.
Is the damage output over the top in PvE as well or just another wacky PvP mechanic?
But on scrappers CS doesn't crit, it refreshes Power Siphon. The other KM attacks are kinda normal with the rech/end formula. It's a solid set, I haven't played to 50 only because of personal taste (disliked the animations).
And it's not slow, Burst has the same cast time as Whirling Sword and Focused Burst is 2 seconds, faster than Impale at 2.43. Only CS is slowish at 2.83 but still way faster than the 3.3 secs of Thunder Strike, One Thousand Cuts, Total Focus... It's a tiny bit slower than the new Energy Transfer, not bad for a set with one ST hard hitter.
The PvP thing in CS just shows how much PvP is borked - only the scrapper version does ZOMG damage, while the Stalker, Tanker and Brute versions of CS do similar damage in PvP and PvE, God knows why. -

Quote:Yeah it's certainly doable in an /ELA Brute, I just made this (for DA) in 10 minutes just for the lulz and ended up with 104% res so on an ELA it'd be at the hard cap. Of course this is unplayable due to abusive slotting (I just put the highest bonuses wherever I could, again, 10 minutes) but with some thought you can cap a DA Brute without sacrificing much, and certainly an ELA too (harder because lots of psi resist bonuses are at the 6th slot). And I've got a DM/ElA Brute build with capped Psi res saved on my computer, so I don't really see your point.

Quote:This kinda sums it up for me. I have as much fun running a Posi in a DO'ed toon as a high end TF (trials are kinda boring imo, but mostly because you have to farm them to get the stuff, I mean running BAF and Lambda once in a while is cool, but the back to back thing is killing my desire to incarnate other toons).I like CoX because it's simple, easy to pick up and put down, and doesn't frustrate me. I don't play games to treat them as a job, so I like the fact that CoX is easy and straightforward. Even the hard stuff in this game is piss-easy.
Also:
- Superheroes!
- Awesome customization in both appearance and powersets, you can make two Controllers (my fav AT) that play entirely different. Or even two Blasters or Scrappers, and since this game encourages having many toons, I find it great that even on an AT you barely touch (like Blasters in my case) you can find some combo that pleases you.
- The IO system is very nice and you can really tailor your builds, since I'm no soloer (bores me to tears) I don't need to go permahasten/purples on any toon except two or three I really got attached to, and even then they performed just fine when they had mid-priced builds, so it was mostly the desire to 'perfect' the toon to see what I could do with it;
And the main reason (other than Superheroes!):
- It plays almost like an action game, the fast travel and fast reflexes required are what made this the only MMO I managed to enjoy for more than one month. -
Thanks guys, I'll keep it. And it's a sweet place for an achiless -res IO. I usually love cones and don't mind repositioning, in fact I never wanted to respec out of it, but I was wondering if you high end DP players used it since it's criticized by many, my corr is only 22 because it's my 3rd DP toon - since I love the animations, I really want to make the set work for me and I think this corr is the one, she's plenty fun on SOs.
Since I'll have enough -res and mitigation (DP/Dark corr) and probably won't be using lethal ammo I'll pass on Piercing Rounds. Probably the hold too because I hate Petrifying Gaze so I won't have another to stack, and Dark has enough Crowd Control and -tohit. I'm keeping ES because I like it very much.
I had the hold on my dp/fire blaster mostly because I was kissing the floor too much, DP's damage let me down on Blasters, although I never took one to 50, all my previous blaster attempts I was impressed with the damage from the start, including my lowbie Dark/MM.
But thanks for the input! Very helpful
Oh I just remembered, on some thread about these interviews (Player Summit?) with Zwillfweqfqdfa and Synapse, Synapse talked about i22, possible Stalker changes, etc, and mentioned that he would maybe look into Empty Clips and E. Shot because he thinks they have lower DPA than desirable, so who knows, maybe he'll speed up the animation soon, or up damage, I don't know. But I remember it was a 'maybe' thing, like 'if I have time I'll see what I can do'. -
Quote:If I'm not mistaken (since Mid's won't let me put intangibility SOs/IOs in Sonic Cage or the FF one, only in the AoE intangible powers like Black Hole or Dimension Shift), only Endoplasms (acc/mez HOs) can do that. People use these HOs in cages to cage AVs and towers in the STF for example.Edit: and the one exception to all this is Intangibility if I'm not mistaken. Enhancing, for example, Sonic Cage increases the magnitude of the Intangibility and not the duration.
With 6 acc/mez lvl 50 HOs (I know, too much) sonic cage on a def goes from 5.96 mag to 12.5. With 3, 11.6.
(At least in mid's the HO trick to increase intangibility mag doesn't work for the AoE ones from dark and gravity) -
Traps is one of the sets that benefits the most from Hasten even if you're using SOs, because the powers you want up every mob (or even stack later) are on relatively long recharges. I find Hasten essential for traps, and I don't get Hasten on every toon.

Quote:Well I'll probably frankenslot mine when I get her to 27 and I already have a miracle (she's still 17) but for common IOs I guess I'd do something like that - 34% s/l def and used only one IO (a -kb in Super Speed), the only thing I don't like in this build is the high end consumption, that's one of the reasons I'm frankenslotting, otherwise it looks very playable to me. Accuracy isn't hot but even if I didn't put tactics, freezing rain should take care of that.Ok so ive been back and forth on a plant/storm troller for over a year (have tried plant/rad, plant earth etc but hard ti decide)and now i see this thread. i wasnt sure how to slot this thing for leveling tho im ok with the plant side i think. can someone post a build for the rest of us that uses so's and eventually some IO's. thanks n
bunches
One way to overcome the end issues would be going Mu Mastery for power sink but you'd have to switch and all that stuff, plus you'd lose defense. Consume in Fire mastery is on a way too long recharge.

Time is a very active set, on a team you'll want to get close to melee to buff/heal your mates (your main buffs are PBAoE) and you also get a 25 radius debuff aura.
So, while I don't have an AR toon, what might be bad in this combo is AR's reliance on narrow cones (Buckshot 30 degrees, Full Auto 20 degrees, meaning you'll want to use them from distance - Flamethrower is 45 which is better for being closer to the action).
On my ice/time I respecced out of Frost Breath (same range/arc as Buckshot) because I was tired of going back and forth just to use the cone, imo Time works better when you're like 20 feet from the action (the aura is 25 feet) which doesn't favour cones. Not that it would be as bad as say, when I made an Energy/Kin and saw that I was KBing every mob I wanted near me lol. -
Oh thanks both of you, yes that was a brain fart. I couldn't find it by searching the forums and I was like, 'Y my old Stone Brute teleports without the cursor?'.
But after the answers I googled 'bind teleport stone tank' (google is better than forum search sometimes) and found the right way to do it:
/bind lshift+lbutton "powexecname Teleport" - just tested with Freezing Rain on my new troller and it worked fine. I always wrote lshift anyway but never used the right shift or right control keys for anything since it'd be unpractical.
Thanks a lot guys -
Hi all,
I use the lshift/lcontrol + (left mouse button) bind on a ton of powers like teleport, freezing rain, etc.
However I haven't been playing much lately and when I tried to setup this bind for FR and Tar Patch in two of my new toons, instead of getting the power to activate right away when I press the shift+click combination, I get the white cursor to place the power when I press shift and have to click later for the power to activate.
Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I'm typing the bind incorrectly:
bind lshift+lclick "powexecname Teleport" - that's what I remember I did and use now but I'm getting the cursor, especially annoying in the case of TP. But I'm thinking I must have forgotten the right way.
Thanks. -
Quote:Well I got just the pack for free. The powerset wasn't added (I don't have the points for it now anyway), and I can't 'buy' the pack again, just tried. When I chose the Weapon Pack, it put Titan Weapons in my cart at the same time. I thought they were all like "oooh, no FREE soup for YOU!"
'Course, I was going to buy the TW at the same time, so it saved me the effort. And made me smile, thinking of the store being clerked by Soup Nazi's.
Hey, wasn't someone just asking about new alien threats??
I hope that when I decide to get the powerset (thinking about waiting for my points because of alts and other games) I'll have the extra weapons. -
Quote:Since I'm not buying the powerset now, I bought it for my tw brute on beta.Is there a consolidated spot to view all of the weapon models for TW?
Everything on beta is 0 points, I must have spent the equivalent of 500 bucks there, three enhancement trays, all the costumes, pets, holiday powers, oh so good lol
(The only new one I really liked was the demon sword, ymmv, but this one you have to see in a video or ingame because it has scrolling runes)
