WIthout stacking AD, and no HO's in the build, a Shield Tanks DDR is like... 60%. Maybe a little higher. In all honesty, that is prolly plenty for that set, since it has so many other perks to it. Granted, I've got a few left over membrains i'm going to throw in there, just cause i have them and don't really need them in others builds atm.
(i've slowed my alting down in view of the incarnet leveling systemthat is coming.) Why not use them while i can? And if it's fixed, i respec them out. *shrug* I have 6 freespec on this guy, and 3 more i can earn... heh.
But, as is, when i'm fighting stuff that does -def, (mainly in ITF's.) i'll just eat a small purple when i notice my defences droping. I've yet to be in a situation where the mobs can get past an extra purple on top of my already near softcapped defences. (soon to be softcapped.) -
My Shield/Ice tank, who is sitting at 38% def for the 3 positions (and will be softcapped in 2 levels once he trains weave.) played just fine last night. If anything it seemed like he handled his spawns a bit better then usual in all honesty. *shrug* The RNG can be a fickle thing.

IMO, and it's only IMO, villian AT's are just better for my playstyle then hero AT's. IMO they are just better balanced.
I like Brutes over scrappers, and tanks. Brutes can be tough enought to tank, and do great damage. A sort of blended Scrapper/tanker hybride.
I prefur Coruptors to Defenders, and blasters. For the same reason. Good damage and good team support. They have 2 roles they can fill at one time, and do both well.
And i LOVE the novality of Stalker and MM's. They are so different.
Villian EAT's are better IMO, though i don't really like playing either EAT very much really.
Only AT in villians i'm not all that found of are domonaters. I prefure the controller.
But i play heros more often, cause i like being the hero of the story, not the villian.
Needless to say, I'm looking very forward to GR.
As for the OP. IMO, the Corr is a better choice. But again, it's all IMO. -
Quote:Of course, and i expect that's what will happen. And i don't feel we need anything in compasion, but when a bussiness cause their customers an inconvience, it is IMO normally smart to try and placate them in some way. A small token, to say sorry. Doing so IMO builds a stronger repure with there customers. Like a restraunt that screws up your order may take an app off your bill, or give you an extra side on the house. Sure crap happens, but when your lively hood is making and keeping people happy, knowing how to handle situation when they aren't happy is key.Everybody who logged in since i17 went live could be given a badge for surviving the market glitch: "Black Friday Survivor" or something like that could be a good pick for the badge name. Or perhaps that's a little too much dark humor, and the badge idea would go over like the proverbial lead balloon.
I'm essentially out of the markets these days, meaning I didn't lose anything, so perhaps its easier for me and others like me who didn't lose anything to let all of this go.
Would it be unreasonable to say "Sometimes stuff happens."? -
Quote:They have to compensate people for taking something down so they didn't get inundated with a sh*t storm of "Waah my stack got deleted /ragequit!" and so they could fix it faster?
Wow...I shouldn't be surprised, but still...
They don't "owe" us anything, but giving your paying customers, your life blood, a token, as a form of an appoligy for an inconvince, is never IMO a BAD idea. I've not really been intrested in playing CoH this weekend with all the bugs, the busted TF's, and the market being down IS annoying. And i don't EXPECT anything. But it still wouldn't nessessirly be a bad idea. -
My rad/sonic can do all of what you started with the exception of teleportation. (I have recall) My SS has a stealth IO in it, and i have recall before 20, so he can stealth TP any tf in the game, IIRC, debuff, buff, and do some damage. Granted, I'm not a team carrier in the shadow shard, cause i prefure superspeed over teleport for travel and it opened up near full inviso for me to use, in conjuction with my recall, since my pools where maxed out. (Fitness / Speed / Leadership / Teleport) Just ran out of power choices. LOL.
I'd highly recommend it. It can do alittle bit of everything "support" wise, and does it all well.Never been on a TF "Failure" with this guy. Cause a powerboosted veng and fallout pretty much turns the rest of us into gods and whatever was unlucky enought to kill someone into fodder.

Quote:Huh. That's no nerf, that's an exploit fix. No way the dev's intended THAT. And I though they added a code to cut merit rewards if you fail a mission in a story arch? *shrug* Intresting footnote there. Nice work in squash an exploit BEFORE it goes live this time.I only think it's funny that they dealt with a farm by removing a timer. That's definitely a switch.
If the last mission of a story arc is timed, you can log out without completing it, then return in a bit to pick up your merits. If you are playing in Ouroboros, you can do the same arc repeatedly. Story arc merits don't have diminishing returns.
Hmm. I wonder if they will remove the timer from the Banished Pantheon map in the Wheel of Destruction arc too. -
What with I17 and Demon Summoning hitting live today, I'm wondering if we'll see some new fresh blood over on the villain side of things.
Personally, I dislike "demonic" things, and will not play the new set, BUT, I surely don't care if you do.. and frankly, my little DP/RAD (27) could use some more teaming opportunities... and soloing her is slower then i like atm, and really, i just prefer teaming in general. I've been hoping I17 will at least cause a wave i can ride into ITF range at the very least. Hopefully to 50. heh. -
I'm either finished with all the AT's, or I have 2 to go, depending on how you look at it.
If you count the epics as 2 at's each, which i guess they are that way on the Char creation screen, I'm short a Warshade and Widow. But me, I just consider them "epic" classes and have Peacebringer and Solider at 50.I just have no desire to run a widow, and only a passing intrest in maybe one day playing a warshade.
Not that i don't like how they play, it's just, well, they kind of come with there own backstory and concets built in, and half the fun of alting IMO is making up your own backstory and concepts. LoL. And besides, I'm not really intrested in "forcing" myself to play something just to have it anymore. I've done it. (Earth/Fire dom and Elec/Elec/Elec blaster spring to mind.) It's not fun to turn a game into work, and I just wont do it anymore. (although, i have to say, that i eventually grew to really REALLY like my earth/fire dom. The dom adjustments, and IO'ing her out really helped. My Elec/Elec... on the other hand... eh. I LOVE electic powers in comic, so i wanted and made one... but do NOT love them in this game... eh. Needless to say, i have HIGH hopes for Elec control!)
Grats to you though. Good work! -
Quote:This IS prolly the best way to go. At the time i built my WP/BA, i don't think they "fixed" IO's for both "sides" of defence. As in they incressed both damage type and positional defence. So i went for Max'ed HP, High regen, and 70% S/L dmg, and 35% is defence to the exotics. And it works. My attacks all are slotted with Crush Impacts, and slanted for recharge over End rad, and as a result, i have some pretty decent damage for a tank if i do say so myself. You would be correct, Sailboat. The order I'd rank increasing survivability is:
1) +defense
2) +maxhp
3) +regen
*) Take Tough/Weave (no matter how you focus, I'd recommend this)
The good thing is you shouldn't have issues increasing both 1 and 2 at the same time. If you can push ~40% def and 3000+ maxhp, you'll be very solid. (I sit at 39% s/l, 42% exotics, ~3160 maxhp, and ~650-700% regen with 1 target. I fear very few things.)
It will definitely be expensive, though.
It's a compident build. It's not ubersurvivible, but I can tank nearly anything with it. Prolly wouldn't trust to for a MSTF, but then, I don't like tanking them in the first place. To much pressure. LOL -
The simple answer right now i'd give you is, do you want to be the hero or the villian? Pick that and roll accordingly. You can't go wrong with either.
After GR, or heck, even now i guess, since you can just shift him later, it'll boil down to the machanics more then now. As it is now, brutes act as presto tanks red side, but after GR that won't nessessirly be true. At which point, IMO, the 4 melee classes in the game become more like 2 different classes. Tanks, and the guys that kill stuff in slightly different ways.
Brutes will be a smidge tougher, with higher HP and better caps, but have less burst damage, and around about the same sustained damage as a scrapper assuming they maintain furry. Much better damage if buffed. IMO making them better teammates as team buffs go further with them. (tanker level caps and 850% damage cap) AoE about equal to a scrapper since they share powers. Higher if buffed obviously. Well buffed brutes can tank like tanks if built for it.
Scrapper will become the middle all arounders. Good defence, good damage, both burts and sustained, and AOE. Good soloer, Good teamer. Just a good toon to play. Can tank, but isn't what i'd consider "good" at it.
Stalkers become the lower defence, higer burst damage dealers. Noone out burst damages a well build stalker. They suffer defencively as a result. As a result, I'd never consider even trying to tank with one.
With tanks being the meatshields. Lowest damage but highest defencive values. And, IMO, like stalkers, and kind of limited to one roll. While brutes CAN tank, and even some scrappers, tanks cannot match brutes or scrappers in terms of damage. Assuming of course you pair a well build scrapper/brute to an equally well built tank.
Since you can be a fire/shield in 3 or the 4 catogries, you have a real desision to make. Hope my prespective may help a bit. -
Eh, I'm a 6 year vet. *shameless plug*
And... *I've* never been kicked from a team for the builds I've brought to a team before. (That I remember.) I have been denided a team because i wasn't what the team was looking for. (We really NEED a stone tank.. or a healer... ect) But that hasn't happened in a LONG time. Now a days i really only see people get "picky" when they try and build Master TF runs.
As for being on teams and having other players kicked for there builds... i've seen it, but it's a rareity. And while *I* wouldn't kick people for there builds, some of them unique builds were not very helpful to the team, and in fact where a hinderince. After all, a good player can make up for a builds weaknesses, but what happens when you don't have a good player running a crappy build? I don't have the heart to kick anyone, but have kind of wished they'd "quit" team a few times. LOL
But, like i said, it was much more common years ago. I don't see it hardly ever now. Like i said, people may get picky for master runs, but rarely for anything else. I don't even see healer spam as much as is used too. I think some people are still living in the past IMO. (not directed at anyone one person.) Times are better now. IMO of course. YMMV. -
Ok. My newish computer (about a year old) came with Vista. And I want to upgrade to Win 7. How does Vista upgrade to Win 7? I know in the past most people recommend a "clean" install, and well, I'm kind of trying to avoid that IF possible. Anyone have any expearince with just running the upgrade? Is there a noticable difference between an upgrade and a clean install? Is windows 7 really that much better then vista?
Thanks in advance! -
Quote:Checking on my SD tanker right now :
GC with one lotg def/global rech gives me 17.3% DDR.
AD with two membranes gives me 30.27% DDR (stackable).
BA with 57% def enhancement gives me 27.17% DDR.
So, no, defence doesn't seem to incress your DDR for GC. That LOTG would have raised it above the base, and 17.3 is the base at 50 IIRC. Intresting.
And what you have, will prolly be close to what i have in terms of DDR. ~ 74% (one stacked AD.) I could prolly live with that. I'd be softcapped to all postions, 75% DDR, 45% S/L resistence, and over 2700 HP base, and capped HP with one with the shield running. (and 85% S/L resists.) That could prolly get me past the LR in the STF with a few purples for a buffer zone. I hope. -
Quote:According to Mid's it should give you ~17% DDR; if you're not seeing that then something's not right. My SD/Fire tanker doesn't have it yet at 32 so I can't say for sure, but it definitely affects DDR on my 50 BS/SD scrapper. With double stacked AD loaded with 3 Membranes my scrapper's at the 95% DDR cap... unfortunately I only have enough recharge to be at that exaulted level about 40% of the time
.
My tanker doesn't have GC in his build plan until 49, and since he just hit 32 tonight it'll be awhile before I can test it personally.
It gives about 17% DDR at lvl 50 yes. But what I'm saying is, unlike the scrapper version of the power, slotting it with defence doesn't increase the powers DDR. ( I know it does with scrappers, i checked last night. I have a BS/SD and a fire/SD) I'm wondering if that's the way it is supposed to be for tanks. As in, the slotting of GC doesn't add DDR. Or ally defence as far as i can tell. It shows the power has gained a defencive buff, but there is no value for defence to start with. I'm thinking it's a bug in the games number display, so I'm wondering if i have more DDR then it was showing when i had defence slotted... I'd like to know which cause that'll determine how i slot the power. If i can get more DDR out of it with slotting, I'll slot it. If not, i won't. My Ally's shouldn't need too much extra defence if I'm taking the beating.
I think I'll get ~ 70% DDR at lvl 50 with just AD (one stack no HO's.), GC(unslotted), and Battle agility slotted. (slotting BA does increase shields DDR. Or so the game says.) Which isn't bad i think. I've got 2 left over Membranes in my bins i can add to AD (does adding a membrane to the tanker version up DDR? can someone confrim?) That would prolly give me a good bump, and may be all i really NEED for DDR. capping it would be nice, but 80ish% would prolly be good enough. I may buy another membrane just for completeness sake. I'm funny that way. -
Ok, I got a Shield/Ice tank, LvL 41. I just trained Grant Cover. I slotted it for defence, and haven't noticed a change in the powers defence, or DDR level. I KNOW it changes on scrappers. Is this a bug or the way it works for tanks?
Obviously i'm trying to get as much DDR as i can. I accually have a few left over membrains i'm going to use in this build. Aiming for at least 80% or more. (without double stacking AD. My set bonuses are geared for defence and +hp.)
Thanks in advance! -
At least i think thats what they are called. I just had my backup PC's cpu upgraded, and was wondering, do you still need to add the "-" command to get the game to register a dual core or not? And if so, what is it again?? LOL.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. And are there any other's i may need to know about?? -
Quote:Oh, I felt the free server transfures. Yeah, lots and lots of people left for a PvP server. It's possible, perhaps, that the new people you are seeing are part of the existing player base who switched servers.
I know I've made some changes with my toons and in the past several months have played a lot on Victory, Liberty, Triumph, and Pinnacle, and hardly any on Freedom and Virtue.*shrug* I'm sure we got alot too. I still belive a 40% drop in the player base in such a short period of time would have been noticable, and i sure didn't notice one.

Quote:Perhaps i should have said "little to no" AE and PvP activity.Weekends on Triumph in the RWZ AE building the MA Super Team runs arcs. It's obviously time someone bumped the thread if it's fallen off the fron page.
Eco.I've also seen a push lately for Kickball PVP that hasn't taken off really. I tried it once. 3 on 3. Died 897 times in 10 mins...(maybe that's a bit of an exagreation.)

Quote:Got to love web PHD's. Links? You know Dr. Aeon, it's interesting that you're preaching patience when you know full well (or should know as an employee) that time isn't a luxury PS/CoX can afford. I know where to find NCSoft quarterly reports and what to look for when it comes to CoX revenue. I'm sorry but I couldn't help myself. This is part of what I do for a living. In anycase, since the introduction of AE in April of last year, CoX sales revenue all the sudden plummeted 40% (compared to a 43% revenue decline in a rolling 12 month period ending in Q4 2009). Basically, during the course of Q1 2009, CoX revenue went down 3% which can be attributed to the natural decline of most aging MMOs. Then came AE in Q2 in the final two quarters of 2009, revenue fell off a cliff and dropped 40%.
Next let's look at the chronology of AE itself. The first 2-3 months after the introduction of AE, there was no doubt that it was wildly popular and widely utilized. Everyone and their extended family were crammed into the AE buildings in AP or Mercy/Cap. That kind of player interest couldn't have been bad from the revenue standpoint and the fact that revenue only dropped 3% from Q1 to Q2 of last year seems to reflect just that. Then came the fine-tuning or nerfs to be more blunt. In chronological progression, ticket cap, custom critter exp, MM pets, and now allied NPCs, just to name a few of the big ones. If you log on during peak hours right now, the players in Mercy and Cap AE buildings are a mere small fraction of where it was a year ago. Going back to the revenue decline in 2009, you can't honestly tell me that these two trends had no correlation. The fact is that drastic and persistent nerfing of popular (and maybe even integral) features in a MMO can contribute significantly to the eventual demise of the game itself. After all it has already happened several times in the short history of MMORPGs. Two prominent examples would be SWG and more recently, Tabula Rasa.
Now let us consider the obvious fact that PS is not exactly flush with subscribers and rolling in dough (at least compared to years before). It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the bigwigs at NCSoft corporate have already expressed their concern over the steep decline in CoX revenue last year. After all in the corporate world, if a product line suddenly loses 40% of sales revenue in a matter of months, it usually gets discontinued. NCSoft may be willing to deal with it for now given that the overall company profitability skyrocketed last year due to the popularity of AION in Asia but how long is it going to last? What if GR doesn't generate as much revenue as desired? That projection isn't all that far fetched given the short term memory nature of the MMO population, ample competition and the fact that CoX is an aging game. This is not to mention that patience isn't exactly a virtue in the world dominated by corporate balance sheets.
With all of this in mind, I am simply shocked that you guys haven't switched to a more conservative approach when it comes to AE fine-tuning. The nerf now and deal with it later approach as exhibited by this latest episode is extremely shortsighted and irrational. It's almost as if PS is willing to alienate some player now while banking on GR to inject fresh blood later but that scenerio is far from a guarantee. Regardless of what the "good riddance, let them leave" or "we don't need players like that anyways" crowd is saying, CoX is currently not on a solid enough footing to be able to afford the hemorrhaging of even more subscribers (revenue).
P.S: If you dislike my bluntness and challenging tone, feel free to put a temporary or even permanent ban on me. If that is to be a consequence of me saying what needs to said, so be it. My main account was already canceled prior to all of this and this account only has about two weeks left. However, allow me to say this one final thing. The reason I canceled originally was due to a perfect storm of busier real life schedule, low CoV population and other diversions. It was not the result of some ragequit over any particular prior issue. However, now that I've seen the way this particular nerf was handled and the continuation of collective tunnel vision on the part of PS, I doubt I would've renewed anyways. Good luck.
I'm not disputing what you said, i can't, i don't KNOW the numbers. I just know from first hand experience, on a small server, there seem to be more "new" people or names i haven't seen running around then there was a year ago. Teams, at least on blue side, seem somewhat easier to get. It feels like more people are around not less. I'd imagine a 40% drop in membership would be very noticeable. *shrug* Of course, i don't know. I'm not an accountant or businessman of any kind really. (I'm an Import/Export compliance specialist for my company, FYI.)
I hope CoH has at LEAST a year left in it... to get me to TOR without a lapse in an MMO i'm interested in. I hope it has more life in it then that actually, but a year will do me. And with GR coming out, i figured that's a safe bet. Can't see an expansion NOT proping up a game for at least that long. Frankly, Id be surprised NCsoft would undergo the expense of an expansion on a product that lost nearly half it's value as shapely as you say... But i don't honestly know. *shrug* -
Quote:I'd be pissed if they removed the EXP from AE, that's a terrible idea. I'm no RPer and I use AE quite often.
And this whole Ghost Town theory is bunk. There are many players, like me, that use AE to run other people's story arcs for entertainment and tickets. However, only the developers truly know the amount of players using AE, and I wonder if they can differentiate between players using it for farms, exploits or intended purposes.
Must be a server thing. I always run my AE contact real fast cause of my OCD, and haven't seen a single person in the atlas AE building in MONTHS. Totally empty. I never heard AE spam anymore. Ok, maybe once in a blue moon. I can honestly say, in all my gloabl chat channels i'm a member of, only ONCE in... the last 6 months have i seen someone spam for an AE team. And i remember THAT because it was so weird to SEE an AE team forming in a long time.
I suppose bigger server may have more people using AE, obviously. Bigger servers also have more active PVP. That doesn't make it "popular" though.(I don't know what server your on, but mine is Triumph. No AE activity, no PvP. We are the PVE server. LOL)
-
Quote:I agree totally. No rewards for AE would basically ensure only the people who want to use it for a creative outlet would. And only people who want to play new player content would use it.Like I said in another post, remove the XP and rewards from the AE all together, then anyonecan create any mission they want and put 2,000 AVS into 1 mission and can all be 1 shotted with brawl, at least it won't be a exploit anymore as you will be removing the risk vs reward scenario.
Eliminate the XP and the farmers will leave the AE system and do other things, like farming regular missions again. That way all the RPers and such can enjoy the AE system for what it was truly designed for.
Then as Arctic_Princess stated, remove/flush the AE arcs with those specific key words, it won;t be hard to do, just a little extra time and the AE system will be exactly what is was intended for.
The problem is, that's not very many people at all, and the dev's sunk WAY to much time, effort, and money on this feature to have noone hardly use it. Which is why they keep trying to "fix" it. Trying to find a balance or chaseing after the new expliot. Never going to work. Exploits will keep poping up so long as rewards for AE are worthwile at all. But no rewards means no players which means there newest feature they spent god knows how long on is a faiulier. It's catch 22 and they are stuck with it. I hope they relise this one days soon, pull all XP from the system, and tickts too, and just move on with there lives... but i doubt it. -
Quote:That's because AE, simple as a creative outlet for players, was never going to be a popular feature. EVER. It was my WHOLE grip with AE from the start. If you want people to USE it, they need incentive. Just playing new "player" made content was NEVER enough. But if you add reward to AE, in any meaning for way, players will learn to exploit it, and then that's all it'd be used for.All I know is the AE is becoming a ghost town due to all the changes
And what have we seen?
Massive player exploiting the likes of which we haven't seen before. And now that the dev's have fixed the exploits and reduce the rewards? A ghost town. Noone but a small majority of players is intrested enough, or creative enough to use this system the way the dev's wanted it used. And of them, even fewer are talanted enough to make an engaging story.
AE was, and still is, just a really bad idea. -
Quote:Their "design" philosophy is prolly more like "keep the game fun, and profitable, so we have a job in the future." more then anything. And if that means fixing an exploit that could rob them of future players, at the expence of a hand full of peoples "fun" then it was prolly a smart busines move. Not to mention the fact they are working on twicking this fix even further still.I only recently came back after a year away. Among other things, I was disappointed to see many things that were 'right around the corner' for AE still in the 'real soon now' category (like properly functioning custom powers).
To see yet another problem where the devs place the fun of folks using the system right below the 'exploit' of those using the system wrong makes it very clear this is not a new design philosophy, and one that will be in place for the forseeable future.
AE is the only reason I came back. So.
I have too many characters to give away all of my stuff, though I did wipe my arcs.
And if AE was you only reason to come back, it was a bad one frankly. AE is an exploit magnet. IMO, it was a bad idea from start to finish. (it's a long rant, i'll not get into) And the dev's have to address powerleveling exploits before any new wave of players hit. PLing new players would give a totally wrong impresion of what this game involves and how deep it can accually be. I'm sure they'er hoping for GR to bring them in, they'd want to keep them after all. Hell, i LOVED playing STO, but i'm about to drop my sub for them ATM cause the game is crasy short and I have nothing to DO atm. A massive PLing exploit for noobis to use and abuse could easily result in a similer feeling for this game, when that isn't the case. Theres ALOT to do in this game. (at least, a whole LOT MORE then STO has.... LOL) -
Quote:I find US more useful on my Brute then my scrapper or tank. The brute gets capped Resistence to all by psy. That's a massive jump from where he was. He becomes a mini tank. The other 2 at's don't.I'm a big fan of the passives since they were buffed. The only power I consider skipping in INV is Unstoppable. Not because of the crash either, that's easy to deal with but more or less because I just don't use it once IOed. It's the same reason I dropped Elude from my IOed SR Brute.
My scrappers rarely use it cause, solo, he's a scrapper, and the whole game is pretty much easy mode, and in teams normally the tank is taking the lions share of the argo. My tank never uses it cause he's Softcapped to S/L/E/N with a single mob in melee range, and just doesn't ever die.
