Windows 7 upgrade question.

Ok. My newish computer (about a year old) came with Vista. And I want to upgrade to Win 7. How does Vista upgrade to Win 7? I know in the past most people recommend a "clean" install, and well, I'm kind of trying to avoid that IF possible. Anyone have any expearince with just running the upgrade? Is there a noticable difference between an upgrade and a clean install? Is windows 7 really that much better then vista?

Thanks in advance!

Win 7 is in my opinion, what Vista should have been a long time ago. Anyways, so far as I know, yes you can upgrade Vista to 7. Me, I'd do the clean install anyways. It's more trouble since you do have to back up and reinstall stuff but a clean install can and typically will perform better. With an upgrade, you generally get to keep everything in place so it is 'simpler' but there's no housekeeping so all the accumulated junk from old programs, drivers, and whatnot is still there, potentially clogging the machine and slowing performance. Think of a clean install as an opportunity to do some spring cleaning on your system. You can install fresh drivers, ditch old programs and files you never use any more and otherwise refresh your system. While you're at it, take the time to actually clean the machine itself. Open it up and get the dust bunnies out, etc. It's more trouble, but I think it well worth the time.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

^This (good idea on the dust bunnies as well).

Planning to dump Vista and pop Windows 7 and Linux Mint (which I've just previewed and thrown onto a bootable USB) onto a nice new shiney 500Gb drive this evening on my laptop. The HD, OS and USB just arrived by courier today*

Of course I did manage one screw-up so far, the external HD cradle I got for the old disk to go into is IDE, not SATA. I'm an idiot!!
