Ever since Dechs_Kaison, the fine, fine gentleman (My apologies if I've written your name wrong) showed all of us how effective Dark Armor can be, my own respect for the set has continually increased.
That said, I've never seen any Dark/ Tanks in game-keep in mind I'm playing on the European servers, so there are less copying from the forums than what I assume is the case in NA- until now! Was forming an STF yesterday, which were led by a Dark/Stone tanker with the will of tanking LR in the end (and got to tank anything else too, as he was the only Tanker on the team :P ), and must I say: *WOW!*
The tank barely never got into the red area of the health bar throughout the whole TF! Other team members that might have helped here was a Cold/ def and Traps/ def (there also was a troller, but IIRC he was /kin).
Now, while this accomplishment might not seem so unusual to you tanker vets, I for one must admit it was really amazing seeing him doing his job!
So basically, Dark armor, I'm impressed! -
Quote:The funny thing is that while I get your point and the principle of DPA, it just doesn't seem like someting I'll get into, really can't explain why :PI thought I did an adequate job of explaining what DPA meant in the guide. To sum up, if an attack A does 100 points of damage, but takes 5 seconds to do it, is it better than attack B that does 50 points of damage, but only takes 1 second? The DPA of A is 20 vs. 50 for B, thus B is better in that metric.
GIS's DPA is miserable, so I advise ppl to skip it. If that's not sufficient, I don't know what else to say. I'm not trying to change anyones playstyles, just trying to provide information as to give ppl more informed choices. If you like the orange numbers that float up after GIS, by all means go for it.
Oh, and I didn't get offended by your tip, I like critique, depending of the tone of it of course ^^ -
I do understand your critique, but this point I don't get. I did see your guide, but I'm the degree of ignorant that I basically only care about the damage a power does. Thus, I don't care about DPE, DPS, DPA DP-whatever.
Feel free to try and explain to me why I should; I might change my playstyle -
Quote:Is it that bad? :PAny chance you could change the colors? That is very, very hard to read.
But sure, will resend it:

Hi guys,
So, having a difficult story with Tankers (Have had 2, 1, Inv/SS, which was deleten at lvl 28-ish and 1, SD/SS, stuck at lvl 40/42-ish), I really wanted to give the AT another go, as I'm somewhat interested in seeing how Tanking has changed since last time i played.
Some time ago, I decided to make a SD/Ice tanker, as I thought that SD's SC might help with the damage output that I'd been told that /Ice lags.
Then, when I got to the forums yesterday, I noticed the thread about Shield/Ice, and thought that now that the topic has been started, I would like to get a chance of getting my hands on this before they might overflow the servers.
Anyway, my build:

So, please critique the build; what'd you have done differently?
Thanks in advance ^^ -
Ok, taking all your experiences into consideration, I've decided to run with the Nerve boost. And about the almost insisting recommendation of taking Stone Mastery instead of Leviathan Mastery, I've decided to ignore that :P I know, defense is nice, and I might get better survivability with it rather than with Levi Mastery, but it doesn't really fit my concept, so your kind thoughts of that point have been but in vain :P

Quote:Whoops, I forgot to mention my Alpha Slotting problem :PWell, first of all thanks for the response, it's nice to see you're all happily helping me (And thanks for the build tips RealBomber)
I have been doing some (IMO) major modifications to the build, and have once again become doubtful about my Alpha slotting:

The issue was that, as you can see, I can only get perma-hasten by using siphon speed 3 times in a row. I can't help thinking how this is somewhat dumb, as it makes it very occasional for my recharge. Do you guys think this would be a reason to pick the Spiritual Boost? -
Well, first of all thanks for the response, it's nice to see you're all happily helping me (And thanks for the build tips RealBomber)
I have been doing some (IMO) major modifications to the build, and have once again become doubtful about my Alpha slotting:

Thank you for your massive critique Local
As said before, I'm very new to trollers, which can for example be seen at my slotting in roots :P So it's nice with some feedback
I have taken note and changed a lot in the build, but I would like to ask the other viewers, do you agree with Local's observations? Are there som points you'd have done otherwise? -
Hi folks,
In the last couple of months, I've been thinking of trying to make a controller that might actually keep my interest all the way to lvl 50. The choice fell on a plant/kin, for two reasons. 1) I wanted to get some more experience in kinetics, and would like to have a TF candidate with a supportive effect, so that I wouldn't lack that at least (Only have meleers/blasters at lvl 50 who can join tfs). 2) I wanted the toon to be very strong in solo, and while I have of course heard a lot of things about fire/kin, I wanted to have a combo that is rarer seen, at least on the European servers :P
Now, I have made a build which I think is rather good, the goal was perma-Creepers through perma-hasten, which has been achieved:

My own personal idea is Musculature, as I can't help imagining that even with /kin, trollers do not have good opportunities in damage while soloing.
Be fair in your judgement of my build, remem I don't have any experience in trollers ^^ Oh, and thanks for any help given -
Quote:I'd imagine this would be considered as being too overpowered, as far too many aspects of your powers will increase intensively. Furthermore, I don't think that many people would actually want this, at least not more than other character developments (I wouldn't at least). Now I know there are people out there that I have chatted with that will say NO don't do that it's just repeating themselves. We want new and exciting stuff! Okay that aside I'd like to see several of the new slots go to giving us the opportunity to add some of the other options available now through the Alpha slot.. Let me explain.
Right now we have to pick one of the four options to slot. Depending on the character and what they have available I try to chose the one that will best enhance my character but if I had the option, eventually, to have all four of these powers slotted my character would be awesome
When we get access to the rare and very rare slots imagine being able to do this with a character.. I'll use my Thugs/DM Mastermind as an example
I can increase her Endurance by 45%, her Damage output (including those from her pets) by 45%, the Accuracy of all her attacks (again including pets) by 45% and her Attack Rate by 45 %. Now with very rares in all these POTENTIAL slots I can also increase the duration of her Immobs by 33%, her Holds by 33%, Her Heals by 33%, her Stuns by 33% and her Defense Debuff by 33%. On a lesser note I can increase the Range of all her attacks by 20% and while it's not really a help supposedly her Defense Buff (doesn't have) and Damage Resistance (only through Epic Powers) would also be increased by 20%.
So with 4 slots I can dramatically increase the effect of 10 different effects my powers had prior to the start of the incarnate system. Now add in Rare IO power sets with bonuses and Purples and you truly do have a character that would be almost godlike.. GMS and Rikti Pylons beware!
All it would require is 4 of the 10 proposed slots which still leaves 6 others for Pets, team buffs and/or debuffs and whatever else thay decide to give us. To be perfectly honest with all that added firepower, faster recharge, increased accuracy and quicker attack rates I'd already be feeling pretty much like a Goddess. -
Quote:I see your point there...I usually keep it a few seconds off perma, because most of the time making it perma would mean spending an additional billion inf for just a tiny improvement, while I could use that inf to twink out another toon from scratch (or deck out a couple with nice but not top-end builds).
Oh, and have looked at your build and taken some ideas from it. Though, I've decided to settle for non-capped (but close tho) s/l def, and then have stroner rech. Not sure if I wanna Incarnate this toon, but I'll look at that when time comes. In the meantime, I'm sure I don't wanna use the Spiritual, as recharge's not supposed to be so important for this guy again. -
Quote:I seeI don't see how this is possible. You get perma energize at about 100% global recharge with hasten, so you'd need 180% global recharge without.
Guess it's time to ask for further advice then.
You see, the reason I don't/didn't want Hasten is that I always tend to try to perma that too, since it, IMO, is only useful when perma'ed -
-
Is this really the true reason? 'Cuz then I have seriously underestimated the power Brutes hold!
-
Hello people,
I have, along many other projects, been looking into a SS/Elec Brute. Through the experience of other people discussing the set and it's advantages, I've decided to aim for perma-Energize. Now, the goal hasn't yet been reached, thus my approach to you guys; but first, my build thus far:

1. I would prefer to stay clear of Hasten, unless of course nothing else is possible in order to acchieve perma-energize
2. I know many people playing SS (on a brute) often stay clear of Jab, but I like the power, now that it has gotten another animation.
There you have it, I would prefer some reasoning for your help ^^ -
Quote:Haven't read through the whole thread, so don't know if the following has been said.LIMITLISS RADIAL FREEEEEM
If this breaks anyones browsers let me know. I had to scroll down the info list 5 times to get every thing listed, I got screen grabs of 80% so four pictures
buffing a lot of null down at the end.
**SPOILER**
Hate to break it to ya though, but I'm rather certain this is only a power from the 1st mission in the incarnate arc, where one is to travel to the future to rescue Mender Ramiel ans thus will be given interpretations of the power of an Incarnate. I personally don't think we get this ability in one single Incarnate slot. -
Quote:I wholeheartedly agree! It's really disappointing that people grow accustomed to easiness, especially in these days where the harder TFs are becoming more desirable due to Incarnate contentThis is a fairly new occurrence, and not isolated to any one server.
Frankly, it's because the game has gotten too easy, and everyone playing has become accustomed to that level of challenge.
Any challenge at all anymore, and in many cases that means just baseline performance rather than speeding, is seen as a negative. "Slogging through a TF" is simply not something players are accustomed to doing, and most really won't try very hard to do something that to them seems like a failure. It's all seen as a reward structure now, whereas in the past with no real rewards to speak of, you slogged through just to say you did so.I have, though, begun trying to remember "quitter" globals, so as to only team with these when on large teams.
Furthermore, I'm surprised so many of you mention Defiant! I have been a former Defiant-player, but I barely teamed back there! Then again, I wasn't member of any channels back then (like Defiant Events, sals etc.) -
While the title may seem as an insult to all the European players out there, it is merely a method of getting your attention, as I don't think a sledgehammer would do the job, considering your very not-physical being here :P
In the last couple of days, I've been playing a RSF and a Barra SF on the Union Server. The case in both teams were the same: When getting to the final mish, people give up very easily when facing an AV that can teamwipe you. Though, there were different reasons between the two SFs.
In LRSF, the team (from memory) was like this:
DM/Regen Stalker (Me)
SS/Stone Brute
DP/Kin Corr
Energy/Kin Corr
Fortunata
Demon/Dark MM
??/Shield Brute (Don't remember his primary :P)
(???)
Now, ignoring the parentheses this team would seem optimal for doing the SF, at least I think so. Now, the team was working rather good, the only reason, IMO; the reason the team split was a combo of mainly two aspects, I think. First of all, it was late, and many of us got tired.
The second reason was a wrong tactic: The puller of the group did for reasons unknown to the rest of us start out by pulling Statesman himself. Not that tough a gentleman again. Now, the reason this, after 2 hours of continuous attempts, caused the team to split up was that now the other heroes became aware of our prescence, thus leading Numina to start her buffing. Simply put, ouch! Now, in retrospect I realise that we couldn't have done much here, as the buffers were awaken, and that every time we tried to pull one of them, the others followed. This is not a call out to pull yourselves together with the SF, this is rather a suggestion to make sure your team know of the strategies before starting the plan.
Now, in BSF, the team composition was as following:
DM/Regen Stalker (Me)
Merc/Pain MM
DB/Regen Srapper
Grav/Emp troller
Energy/??? Blaster
Indeed, this might not be optimal for a usual BSF, but that was just because there was next to no interest in forming the SF in the first place.
The composition aside, I think it went great! Sure, we had a somewhat hard time fighting the EB/Hero in first mish, but hey, an Ill EB is an annoying threat! Ms. Liberty layed the road for our tactic against AVs. The troller, along with the melee characters (and maybe the MM) had holds, which we used to hold the AVs, a rather creative idea, IMO, and hey, it worked.
Now, in the last mish, we used the same strategy on the Arachnos AVs. Same thing happened as earlier: one of ours faced, vengeance on us, while altogether holding the happy dude. Now, when having the experience of dancing with Reichsman, we got the wonderful experience of being teamwiped, twice. "Oooh, big deal!" was my thought; the others: "We can't do this! I'll leave the team!". And no, I'm not overdoing this! We tried taking him on again, didn't hurt him much, and while I'll admit he didn't notice our punishment so much (Thanks to his 200,000 HP), I seriously think that giving up after only 10 minutes is simpy wimpiness! I mean come on, you teamwipe freaking twice! That doesn't mean that the challenge cannot be met!!
Now, some people might wonder: "What is your point with this thread?" Well, tbh, I think the reason I wrote this is to both get out with aggressions, and also to call out the players of the European Servers to hear whether I'm the only one experiencing a tendency among teammates to running away from actual challenges in the game.
And must apologies the bitterness that might be traced in the thread ^^ -
Quote:First things first, it's 33 % :P That said, do you mean that the proc works that way that it has a chance of either hitting every mob or none of the mobs? However, this can be partially dealt with by slotting the Coersive Persuasion purple proc. This gives you a 25%(?) chance of hitting EVERY mob within 20 feet with a 10 second Confuse duration...
But If you don't mind dropping 300 million on a set of 6 purples, you can get some nice bonuses. (the final, for example, is a 5% ranged defense bonus.)
And about purps, we've got Alignment Merits now ya know ;P -
Have more or less asked this question before, in form of discussing whether or not to use it in a blaster build. Nonetheless, I'd like to hear from the people who like the power. The reason I'm bringing this up again is that, as my character, an Ice/Psy/Ice Blaster, is considering (although that's not possible, I know :P) to be incarnated. Now, I'm thinking of giving her the nerve boost (Better Acc, stronger def, stronger holds); though, I realised that in the long run, better confuse will also be taken into account.
So, basic line: Can WoC be useful on a Blaster as a tool for mitigation, and which steps should be taken in order to fulfill this? Would prefer opinions from people who have had positive experiences with the power. -
Quote:1st 3 points, fair enough.Drop Flares.
Drop Flash Arrow.
Drop Blazing Bolt
Drop PGA unless slotting it 5x purple sleep set.
Slot Oil Slick for damage.
If you're going to use Positrons slot 5 in each power. Skip the dmg/range in all except for Fire Breath in which you would skip the acc/dmg.
More recharge in Disruption Arrow.
Achilles Heel proc in Acid Arrow.
Get hasten/SS
CJ is overslotted.
Use Kinetic Combats in brawl/Boxing so you can use better sets in your good powers instead of using bad sets to get your S/L defense up.
There is still /alot/ more, that should get you started, work on your build some more.
Isn't PGA a useful tool to lower incoming damage (when considering ST)?
OSA, fair enough.
Why should acc/Dam be skipped in favor of Chance for +NRG dmg? Is it that useful?
DA and AA, fair enough.
Why should I get hasten (and SS) when the goal is S/L/E def? Is high recharge needed for TA?
Should CJ only be 1-slotted?
Won't it be a waste to put more slots into Boxing (and especially Brawl) when I don't use them, instead of using sets, albeit being weak, in the powers I' more likely to use?
Overall, am I really that sucky? :P Seriously though, thanks for the critique. -
As the title implies I've been working with a Fire/TA Corruptor (not started it yet, though) and have created this build, with focus being capping S/L/E:

Quote:I like this build, but do, ofc, have some questions to it. At first I thought about exchanging CJ with maneuvers, but after having seen the degree of perma-hasten/AM, I realised, why not have both (CJ and Man); this also helps me with my slot problem. I will have to ask for assistance about the last slot, as I can't think of anything needy for that.I reworked you're build slightly to achieve both perma-hasten and perma-am with a few powers and slots left for you to choose. I've dropped the presence pool in favor of picking up combat jumping to slot a LotG proc to bring up your global recharge enough. I can understand if you chose that pool for concept but I find the powers to be rather lack luster and not worth the slots especially considering the other powers you have at your disposal in your secondary for nullifying threats. You'll have to excuse my mids is only i18 compliant but you get the idea.
