I picked up the novel at the bookstore the other day, thumbed through it, read some passages, and put it right back on the shelf. The prose overall isn't that bad, but the word choices are horrendous. Don't use "unconciously" when you mean "reflexively." Especially if the character is, you know, awake.

Why is this bad? Sometimes you just... miss the mission or whatever on a toon, it happens. Why is it such a bad thing to be able to join someone else to get the badge that you missed while doing other things?

Because I am a firm believer in the need for multiple playthroughs to see/achieve everything. I don't agree with being able to earn all the badges/fully experience every mission on a single playthrough. And fixing it so you can't earn badges through missions that are not your own is a good way to fix that.

People who like to collect badges will just borrow a page from Positron's notebook, then: do the first mission in the arc, then wait 'til they outlevel the enemies on the missions. "All that crap is grey to me." It'll be a bunch of run-throughs.

That'd piss people off, especially the ones who wouldn't be aware of this policy, when you choose to auto-complete a mission you're holding that's the same as the mission owner's.

Given the sheer number of mapserver discos I and my friends have experienced over the past two weeks, I have to say that "Succeed Timed Missions to get a Badge" idea is just about the stupidest thing I've heard since "Patron Powers are Permanent." If you don't account for latency, server crashes, etc., etc., you're being a dick when making something that hard to achieve, plain and simple.
