I have a fire/kin farmer who took Maneuvers with the intention of never turning it on. It's just there to hold an extra Luck of the Gambler +recharge.

Wow, that seems a bit much for a game.
I've seen lots of online banks and brokers that use those. -
Also, it would have been nice if the floor and ceiling trim extended into doorways. Even if you WANT the trim, you still get a break between every room.

Okay, CONGO refers to a place. (Well, multiple places, Congo Basin, Republic of the Congo, Congo River, etc).
CONGA is a dance. (Also a type of music and a drum.)
On a side note, the lead rat is wearing a hat with fruit, presumably a reference to Carmen Miranda. However, she was more associated with a style of music called samba. FYI, at the height of her career, she was the highest-paid entertainer in the U.S. for several years and also, at one point, the highest-paid woman in the country (earning $200,000 in 1945). -
er, wouldn't it be better to focus on either positional defense *OR* typed defense, rather than have a bunch of each?

As Fleeting Whisper said, you can earn the Day Job POWERS for two at once. What you can no longer do is earn Day Job BADGE PROGRESS on two at once. (Previously you could, but all such locations have been fixed.)

Providing a bit more detail, for someone admittedly new to the game:
The halo is considered an aura and can not be accessed before level 30. (However, you were wise to BUY it now, since the Candy Keeper will go away next week and not reappear until next December.)
In order to 'unlock' auras (there are multiple standard ones also available), you need to do a special mission. I dunno how villains get the mission since I've never done it. For heroes, you talk to the City Rep who stands in the center of City Hall in Atlas Park. You want the mission that refers to 'better understanding your powers'. You'll have to talk to another contact, run around, beat up 3 types of enemies, etc.
After you complete the missions, you'll get a message flashing in big letters on your screen that says something like 'AURAS UNLOCKED'. After that, you would need to visit a tailor shop. The shop name is Icon and they are located in Steel Canyon, Independence Port and Founders Falls. In the costume design screen, auras are in their own categories just like 'Heads', 'Upper Body', 'Back Details', etc. -

This is a good option for any crafting (if you don't have an SG with the worktables) since you can get here from Atlas Park, Founders Falls and Peregrine Island.
The Atlas Park connection is useful at low level since you don't have to set foot outside the Vanguard base. The portal from Atlas takes you right inside the base, there are no enemies in there, and you can return to Atlas via the same portal.
Please note, though, there are TWO KINDS of worktables in the Vanguard base. The small ones are the Invention Worktables. The larger ones are only used for crafting items purchased with Vanguard Merits. -
Ya know, they also registered the domain badge-hunter.com to avoid exactly that sort of problem.

Anyway, for my main toon, I track badges with badge-hunter.com and use an Excel spreadsheet to track his merit earnings and expenditures. Also in Excel, I track what task forces and trials I do, plus influence on any characters with a lot (over a quarter billion).
I don't track any other stuff for any characters. -
It seems to be a standard mechanic for giant monsters. Babbage does exactly the same thing. He spawns his little mechanical allies based on the level of a hero fighting him.

Quote:He could also have come from another tower. The repairmen are not 'bound' to a particular tower. If you're fighting one tower and knock a repairman over to a previously destroyed tower, he can rebuild it from scratch.Well that's the thing...on the first run (Jan. 1st) I know we blew up the tower and we didn't move on (or at least I didn't) and from what I saw no repairman but the tower seemed to respawn within, I'd say, 3 seconds. Maybe he was hiding or whatever but *shrugs*
-
Me? I'm currently working on my 5th tank and have NEVER taken Build Up, or the equivalent, on a tank. Let the blasters and scrappers take it. And I do, on my blasters and scrappers (and brutes).

Charles Bronson did fine using a sock.

Maybe I'll post a picture wearing a fedora and Ray-Bans.

If they are buying the cool IO's with merits then they are not impacting the market positively or negatively. They are market-neutral. Then when they start selling, they will have a positive impact.

Quote:Additional tip: They cut the power EXACTLY six weeks after your payment, to the MINUTE.Rent Tip: if you're not already aware of it, you can pay rent in Galaxy City, too (Heroside). You also don't HAVE to pay rent until they actually shut off the power. That will let you go as much as six weeks between payments. (I try not to go quite to that point, because a Galaxy City beacon doesn't do me much good when the power's off!)
If you make a note of when you pay it, you can predict precisely when the power will be cut. If I'm online when it's going to happen, I go to Atlas Park and enter the base and wait for the power to go off. Then I exit and pay the rent. -
Actually, they are. Prestige earning was specifically designed to be relatively uniform so that low level characters can contribute effectively. Having said that, a level 50 will have more and better powers so they can defeat the enemies faster. So you're still better off using a 50. Just not DRAMATICALLY so.

Quote:And if you're fighting Cimerorans and they manage to hit, you are HOSED.Note: This doesn't absolve you from lucky-shot syndrome with large numbers of enemies. Given a large enough group, even a statistically small number of hits will be enough to ruin your day.

When I tank them on a resistance based tank, they quickly get my base defense to -100. Once, I took my shield tank on the ITF to get the Roman shields and see just how effective the debuff resistance was. Unfortunately, (well, unfortunate for testing the debuff resistance) the team had a lot of buffs and my defense was over 100% most of the time. Even when they got a couple of hits in, I'd still be 40+ points above the soft cap. This is why we do not aim for the soft cap. We want as much defense as we can possibly get.

I suspect there was a repairman present and you did not notice him.
Due to a change in the NPC AI some months ago, the repairmen are able to repair the towers faster than previously and it is much harder to interrupt/stop them. The problem seems to be that they can start repairing even as they are appearing, making it very difficult for the players to react fast enough. The devs are aware of this and indicated they would be evaluating it to determine whether or not it needs to be changed.
One way to address it is to basically start hitting them before you can even see them. This can be done by:
1) Having an area targeted or PBAoE effect running. On the last STF I was on, my fire/kin stood next to the tower with Hot Feet running.
2) Pets. Since pets are controlled by the server, they can see the repairmen (and attack them) before you can. -
Quote:Well, for starters, let me say that getting an SG up to 100 members at all is a notable accomplishment. I think my SG never got above 35 or so. Still, we ended up in the top 40 on Infinity without any farming and we're still there. Then it is obvious I did something wrong. I set up a Guild Portal site, ran weekly events, tried to be on for 6 hours a day, found an American (I am European) to run the SG along with me and cover other hours of the day. We got to about 100 members, but as soon as I switched down to being online maybe 1-2 hours every other day, things broke down in about 4-6 weeks. Now there are just 2 members that play at all that I don't know in real life.
Any tips what I could have done differently? We had three leaders: me, the American and a RL friend of mine who was on maybe an hour every three days.
From what you describe, I'm guessing you had a relatively high turnover rate and it required constant attention/recruiting on your part to maintain the population. Clearly you were the key man in building and maintaining that population. The next step would be to make it self-sustaining such that the other members get involved in recruiting/retaining members. Unfortunately, while I can see WHAT needs to happen, I can't really say HOW to manage it.
Two words: global channels. Find the right channels and you will never have trouble getting teams. Make a point of teaming and chatting with the people on a channel and they won't just announce teams/task forces on the channel - they'll start sending tells to you when they see you're online. I'm on a badge channel, a farming channel, a general team channel and 4 private SG channels and there's always something going on.Quote:Also, I envy people being able to find or form PuGs any time of the day. I find it the exception on every server besides Freedom and Virtue and I constantly friend (not global though) everyone in my PuG on any other server, only to usually never be online at the same time as they are ever again.
FYI, I find the server friend list pretty much useless. People have too many alts. I have too many alts. The only time I use it is when on a team and someone DC's. I immediately friend them so it will tell me when they are back on. -
Quote:From his 'Introduction' section:note this site http://www.sirlin.net/ptw catagorically describes why my/our attitude is and i quote 'superfluous and counterproductive' the guys in street fighter would have me powerlevel/farm/gank in anyway just to get ahead.
Right off, CoH is NOT a zero-sum game.Quote:The principles of winning apply equally to all zero-sum competitive games.
My getting to 50 does not hinder your getting to 50.
Me getting a full set of purples does not hinder you in getting a full set of purples.
Me amassing a billion influence does not mean there is less for you.
Poker is a zero-sum game. Every dollar that one person wins means someone had to lose a dollar. -
Quote:Dasher) I said don't make lists. You know, I suppose that any arbitrary ordered list would work fine as the enumerating elements. I'm going to start using different things.
Also, I do know that Mercury) I'll definitely be pre-ordering it for Belle, Venus) I might pre-order it for myself depending on what the perks are, Earth) there were entirely too many numbered lists in that post, and Mars) I hope I never have an ordered list of more than eight items!
Dancer) Seriously, see rule Dasher.
Donner) If you must make a silly list, the planets don't have enough humor value.
Blitzen) Anyway, see rule Dasher again. -
Quote:EASILY.A few highlights: No unstoppable, no Perma DP, traded off for Capped S/L defense, nearly capped F/C/E/N defense (With 1 person in range) while maintaining capped S/L resistance. Not using the glad's proc because I don't want to gather another 2 billion for another toon. Would this Tanker be viable for end game play?
I didn't slot for defense at all. My invuln has Tough but no Weave and is IO'ed for 300% regen. He also has the Medicine pool for Aid Self but, after IO'ing for all that regen, I never touched Aid Self again until tanking Lord Recluse. So, yeah, with all that defense you'll be in fine shape. -
You skipped Ice Patch? I took it as soon as it was available. It's just huge for reducing incoming damage and it has a 35 second recharge and 31 second duration. A recharge in the base slot and it's always available.
Re SD: I see you took all 9 powers, Tough and Weave, CJ, Steadfast +def and slotted to get past the soft cap. 'nuff said. My SD/axe did exactly the same. Extremely tough build.

Consider your "IO footprint" on the Market. I see healing uniques, LotGs, rare procs, etc. How much are you taking out of the Market to make these builds?
