For us in-the-know types, this is more a QOL change than anything as players have always found ways around silly systemic limitations on their inf.

But I wonder if the impact on our old friend the "casual gamer" won't be more profound than anticipated. One popular complaint over the years has been "I like to play my alts too much, so I can't make a fortune". Now, what was once 16 individual cups of inf is one gallon.

Another popular accusation is that "sugar daddies" funding other characters is an underhanded practice. Well, there are no more sugar daddies. Your entire account shares the same inf pool....it's positively Socialist!

I'm wondering if, once all this sinks in, a new generation of 'casual gamers' will be less hostile and conspiracy minded about the market. Any thoughts?
I think an old saw applies here. "A fool and his money are soon parted."

There are many folks that, despite what they will tell you, don't WANT to be "rich", "uber", or "successful". And rather than admit this to themselves or others, they shift blame and complain that it cannot possibly be their fault.

So my prediction for the impact to the casual player is some few will believe the bar has been raised and allow themselves to have a little more. The mast majority will be unaffected but we may also see a brief surge in those that allow themselves to be enlightened in the ways of the market. Hail our new ebil brethren!
  2. Which brings up another fun point. Pets in Group Fly don't seem to get travel suppression. Another way to help get past the to hit debuff is to call in the airborn rangers. Mercs throw out -Def like fairy tales hand out morals. You can even take Burst yourself to help start the -Def cascade. Group Fly is still very situational, but knowing when to use a power well is half the fun for me.
  3. Oh if you have extra EoEs left over after the raid, they fetch a nice price on the market.
  4. I'm sure someone will link to a more complete guide soon, but for now.

    /bind <key>"broadcast <message>"

    /macro SG "broadcast <message>"

That answers the questions you asked but I would like to offer some quick advice if I might?

    1. Space the timing of your announcements. Once every 5-10 minutes should be plenty.

    2. Try your best to be brief as best you can. The group name, the fact it's new and 1-2 other quick positive points finished with "PST for more".

These tips will help you at least get some positive mental notes from other experienced recruiters and not annoy your server in general with overdone spam.

    Good luck and have fun!
  5. ..And another lurker comes out to help...

Yes we on the forums are happy to help those that want help. Some quick tips for you since you have found your way to these forums.

    1. Check the forums for the server you play on and learn about their global channels. Tuning into those can help you find a team or activity quicker.

    2. Check into the AT forums and please feel free to ask questions there as well.

You can repay us for all this help, if that help you feel better about asking, by helping others when you are able.

P.S. Oh and come check out villains sometime too! We have cookies!!

  7. Hello all. I was tooling around early today on my new system and saw someone I knew I had previously 1-starred. Is there a easy file to transfer from my old system to my new systems so I can maintain my sanity in a lazy and virtually effortless way?

    Thank you very much
Hi and welcome! While I may be straight, I'm also a channel operator on the Pride global channel which allows me some insight to answer your question. Short version is Victory and Virtue are agreed to have nearly equal amounts of Pride members.

So how do you join Pride you ask? Just type /chanjoin Pride while ingame. We'd love to see you there!

And generally in most raids people get enough EoE's as drops to negate the necessity to buy them.

I mean... and maybe i'm wrong on this, but I think the only people buying EoEs are people running LGTFs...

    Just saying...
Well it's certainly a valid question! Unfortunately as I've more or less been silent about being the market supply, there simply hasn't been a way to determine who's buying them without attracting attention unwanted until now.

Given that my EoEs have been selling out prior to Virtue's raid times, my observations led me here.

Negami has it right. Truth is I'm running short, by my standards, and will simply stop listing them soon if left on my own. While *I'm* ok with that, someone obviously wants them.

In my own opinion it just seems a shame to leave someone hanging like that. (Yes, I'm known to think oddly.)
  11. Oh I've had no doubt folks were sharing freely. But nevertheless, someone has been buying EoEs at whatever prices I want to part with them for. Odds are most of my buyers are on Virtue simply because you folks do the most raids.

Odds are also that Virtue folks are the best bet to help re-establish something resembling a free market on EoEs for the same reasons.
  12. First I'd like to say a quick thank you and hope I can someday participate in a raid with you folks. The question is: can I somehow encourage you folks to farm more of your EoEs?

You see, I've controlled much of the market supply for the past couple of years. Currently it seems as if no one else is really listing them on the market in fact. While selling an EoE I paid 20K for at 1M is easy inf.. it's losing it's luster.

So I guess what I'm saying is I would like more folks to list EoEs for sale on the black market.

As of last night there were 15 EoEs listed for sale (all mine) and over 80 bids. To encourage folks to find other supplies I'm no longer listing all my EoEs at 1M, but instead in progressively increasing amounts.

So once again thanks for the infamy and I hope to join a raid at some point. (I even transfered a lvl 50 Son/Kin Cor to Virtue from Victory.)
  13. Is there a simple way to find out the progression of cards made by Nvidia and/or Radeon? Basically I'm confused by the alphanumeric jumble and am hoping someone can point me to some perspective.

    Thanks in advance!
  14. The Schulls VG on Victory was founded on 10-29-05 and I am one of the originals. Alas it has kind of gone the way of Bill Z Bubba's SG, but my fiancee and I hope to start a revival soon!

    Recruiting Drive

Would you believe I was actually thinking of writing a guide on this topic? So off the top of my head the basic theory is to play to the game's strengths.

Something that has worked for me on more than one occasion is sitting them down in front of the costume creator. I've even focused my badge toon on unlocking as many costume pieces/weapons as possible. The costume creator is still one of the most powerful ways to draw someone's interest after nearly 6 years.

Speaking of the game's age, this can also be a strong point. Discounting ultra mode, the system requirements for CoH are lower than many competing MMOs. AND it's cheaper too!

How cheap? Well as Ross pointed out to me at Herocon '08, there's a nice easy button on the front page of coh.com for a 14 day FREE trial. It doesn't get much cheaper than free folks. And remembering the site name is EASY. Three letters before the .com.

Speaking of stuff Ross and the rest of NCsoft staff have done, you can play up the events that regularly happen ingame. Perhaps the best of these from the view of reclaiming old players is account reactivation weekends (oh and there's some extra xp too). Tell not only your friends, but also folks at electronics and game stores. These nice folks can multiply your quick time investment several times over.

And don't forget our fine community! After my girlfriend (now fiance, WOOT!) had made over one of my badge toon's costumes, I showed her a few select threads. Chief among these, as she had a six year old daughter, was "What my six year old learned from CoX" by wyll. If you haven't read at least the initial post in that thread I highly recommend it!

I'm certain there are many other fine suggestions to be made by many others, but I hope these helped.
  16. Thanks all! I had it set to for sale and bidding. Corrected now thanks to our fine community!

I'll have to check. But from what I've seen this is happening with multiple toons on multiple servers on my account. Even if I accidentally clicked something on 1 toon it shouldn't affect others should it?
  18. Hello all. I dabble in the Essence of the Earth (EoE) inspiration market redside. Lately I have noticed that unless I previously had one in the market, the market can't seem to find any EoEs. Seems to have been a problem since the last patch. Can anyone confirm this as a bug or direct me to a patch note?

And since I'm on the topic, does selling EoEs count for the Inspirational badge?

    Thanks in advance.

It might be because at the time, all I had was my 2 high level mains and because I didn't feel like remaking their builds to use IOs. I have this feeling where if I use them, I want to go through from the beginning with a new character and work my way up to using them, but that just hasn't happened.

To this day, I still can't get into them. It seems to take an exorbitant amount of time to make any sort of headway on buying the salvage for a decent IO set, to get a recipe at a decent price, and after all that to make sure that I have enough left over Inf to actually MAKE the stupid thing. And after all that, I feel like the bonuses just aren't worth it.

In fact, I don't even craft normal IOs for the same reasons basically.

Am I weird? I know I can't be the only one who's perfectly content to just slot out SOs. (My idea of progress is to just make all my SOs level 50++ using the ancient enhancement fusing system that no one ever touches anymore.)
You are not weird. You just use the path less traveled. I don't bother with IOs for the most part either. Sure if I get a unique that that toon can use, I'll craft and slot it. Even I won't refuse free stealth for example. Otherwise the only crafting I basically do is for my badger whose 10,000 crafted item bar hasn't moved in months. That may change slightly when I can email myself recipies in i17 though.

SOs will get you through the PvE game juuuust fine, and establishing a routine about when and how you slot cuts down the shopping and slotting time immensely. Just had a Brute hit level 37, went to the store and executed my normal routine. With family interruptions it took about 10 min. When that toon hits 38 soon shopping and combining the few yellowed SOs will take less time than most of my market sessions.

Speaking of the market, not using IOs means you can sell EVERYTHING. None of your toons need to be poor ever if you sell the 2 large inspirations from the tutorial. You can chuckle softly to yourself whenever someone complains about market prices. After all if you list a ruby at 300 inf and someone gives you 12,000, well that's beyond your control...

Short version is IOs aren't required. Play the game the way you enjoy.
  20. I would also add to check all pages if you are certain of the server. While the 1st 12 SHOULD all appear on the 1st page, they can slide to another page rarely. (It's happened to my account on Pinnacle.)
  21. While I'm not 100% positive, I'm rather inclined to believe your 15 free days will come first. My reasoning is it's simply a good business practice and the whole point of inviting someone back to the game is to re-earn their business. Charging someone prematurely goes against that.

    Welcome back!

While I'm not much for crying DOOOOM(!), I'm thinking that the ease of AE tickets may have started supplanting the market as a supply source for common salvage. Thus resulting in the lower supply on the market. But that's just a guess on my part.

Actually, my assumption is this is a fairly common practice. Used to be I wouldn't even check stuff like Kinetic Weapons redside. They were just the 1st thing chucked if I was on a SF and needed room. Pretty soon I'll be back on that bandwagon.
