    On Links...

You can also format your text before you turn it into a link...

    (copy desired URL)

    Highlight desired text
    Bold desired text
    Color desired text

Link it! (paste URL into popup box)

You can do this for links in your sig, as well.

It doesn't say that all players can access the Help channel, regardless of tier. (This was confirmed by, I think, Zwill or Bea in one of the announcement/clarification threads.)

The bit in yellow has been added since I looked at it when it first came out. I had specifically asked about it in one of the early dev threads and never saw an answer.

    Thank you for clarifying.

  3. Premium players will retain their SG memberships and base access.

There has been no word on if the red star leadership will change.

Oddly, according to the side by side comparison on the official site, Premium players will not have access to global chat (which apparently includes SG & coalie chat). No word on whether this will change.

    You're right, my bad.
For some reason I was thinking of the new tutorial.

    carry on

This was the first comment out of my dear Hubby's mouth when I mentioned this article.

Voltage is one thing, but it's the wattage that really counts.

While the product looks impressive and promising, they need to make it more efficient.

This is also my favorite part of TT. No need to worry 'bout squishies... unless you're Witty.

    Base Personnel

See the colorful links in my sig.

    .
  10. While I was also under the impression that most folks do this for in-game compensation, I'm not sure if asking for real money is actually breaking the EULA.
    • It would not require use of another person's account.
    • It is not transferring items to another person's toon (though it's possible to transfer some "personal items" to the base). Therefore you are not paying for the advancement of one toon.
    • Certain items still require the SG to meet the criteria for crafting (badge unlocks in SG mode).
    • You would essentially be paying for someone's personal time, which is where I think the wiggle room/loophole is. It's the same way some folks get away with charging PL fees....
But I strongly recommend against this route. It's really just a little too dicey, IMO.

    .
  11. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I was under the impression that one does NOT need to set up the shortcuts individually anymore... I thought the NCLauncher does that automagically now.

Regardless, I'm of the opinion that one can make a point (even sarcastically) without resorting to personal attacks.

    .
  12. This is actually the second player I've seen that has made the mistake of starting their trial account on the test server.

I'm guessing that it's confusion stemming from the way the options are presented. I can't say what it's like for other games, but I doubt they present TWO test servers the way CoH does. To an outsider, it may not make immediate sense that there are two pre-release servers; therefore, they may come to some erroneous conclusions:
    • City of Heroes Beta - could be interpreted as the place for pre-release testing.
    • City of Heroes Test - could then be interpreted as the place for trial accounts to "test things out".
    • City of Heroes - could be interpreted as the place for paying subscribers.
It certainly seems counterproductive to fault them for their disappointment when they discover things don't really work that way.

It also makes me wonder if the "where are all the people?" threads from new/trial players might stem from this same mistake.

    .
  13. NEW Free players will not be able to start or join SG's, just like the current trial accounts.

RETURNING Premium players will retain their SG memberships and access. There has been no comment specifically regarding leadership (red star) positions or access to SG/Coalie chat for Premium players.

  14. Base salvage was made obsolete in i13.
All the base crafting and empowerment crafting is now done with regular invention salvage.

You can convert base salvage to "Brainstorms", then convert the Brainstorms into regular invention salvage.

The conversion recipes are on the small IO crafting table (not one of the big ones for crafting base items).

Read through the recipes very carefully. There are several different conversion values, and you will need to decide which ones will maximize your results.

  15. AFAIK, you do not need to be logged in.

  16. Hubby just started up a new little group, and we were just talking about this.

    He's started out with:
    Striga
    PI
    Atlas
    Talos

    and is planning to add:
    Creys
    Terra Volta
    RWZ
    Eden
    Perez
    Hallows

Basically, he's aiming for things not easily accessed, but still frequented.

  17. This is a very old bug.
First listed in Mad Scientist's Big List back in '08
Included in my updated Big List of '10 (specifically the Base Building Bugs section).

Nothing has been done to fix it.
    Don't hold your breath.

    .
  18. Have you gone to your keybind file in the CoH folder to double check that you've not somehow bound over those keys?

Personally, I don't even use the keybinding page in the options menu anymore, except to load up the "default" file (which I've directly edited to my own preferences).

Big List (5/10) based on older list (5/08)
    Low Hanging fruit (5/10)

It's been 3 YEARS since the first big list was made.
The low hanging fruit list was made in direct response to a comment made by a certain Lead Developer last year.

Just exactly how much of a timeframe do they really need for some of that low hanging fruit?

Words are empty and meaningless without action.

  22. Awesome job, Mr. H.

Clean and simple with some clever lighting.
And now I am kicking myself for not thinking of incorporating the letters somehow. lol

  23. Welcome to the Base Builder's forums.

Not sure where you've left off, so I'll just mention a couple things.
    • Storage items (racks, bins, tables) can be assigned permissions. You must be on a toon that has general base editing permissions to set the permissions on the storage items. Each item must be set individually. They are set to the highest permissions by default.
    • .
    • SG leadership has changed slightly. Now there can be only one. One main leader for each SG. The main leader automatically gets all SG permissions, and is designated by a red star. The main leader is now the only one susceptible to the demotion window that each SG sets for themselves (in settings window). If the main leader does not log in within that timeframe, the red star will fall to the toon in the next rank down that has the most seniority and has logged in within the designated timeframe. This was done to solve the issue of SG's finding themselves leaderless or with leaders who didn't have full permissions (low ranks).
    • .
    • If you're interested in advanced building techniques, I suggest looking through the stickied stacking tools thread, or any of Stacker's helpful vids.
    • .
    • There is also an in-game chat channel where you can ask questions or ask for someone to come see a room, or just chat about base stuff: BaseBuildersInc. (include the period). It can seem kinda quiet at times, but don't let that deter ya.
    .
  24. When you are in your entrance room, there is a little popup window that gives you 3 options:
    • edit base
    • personal item
    • upgrade plot

Each option has it's own function.
    • Edit base is pretty straightforward; it's where you do most of your decorating.
    • Personal item is for placing crafted (teleporters, defense, control) and veteran (flyers, trophies) items. These items are called "personal" because they are things that are specific to the toon you're on (I call it "in my pockets"). They are items that will stay with the toon, even if they switch SG's.
    • Upgrade Plot is exactly that... You can upgrade the "ground grid" of your base. Even though the full price is listed, you will essentially be paying the difference between your current plot and the one you want to upgrade to. And, as Ironblade mentioned, if you just want to reposition your current grid, you would "upgrade" and just choose your current plot so you can move it around.

Does raiding promote community better than running task forces or standard mission arcs? They keep saying we have the best community in MMO space, but that community was built in a nearly raidless game, so I am having trouble seeing the connection between raids and a strong social environment.
i'm also having a problem seeing the connection between raids and a strong social environment considering what the community is like in every other game i know of with a heavily raiding-based end game. To be fair, the 900 kilo gorilla of the lot had a pre-established community from its previous games, so it's hardly fair to say that a raiding emphasis in the end game is what makes its community what it is.

Raiding may not necessarily be detrimental to having a strong community, but i certainly don't know of any examples where adding a raiding-focused endgame strengthened the community.
If anything, it seems to be dividing the community; or at the very least, making current divisions wider.
