Yes, and for all the hype about 3D being this new high tech thing it's really not.

You're right, it's essentially an optical illusion. By showing something from the different perspectives, slightly different angles, it tricks your brain into smooshing the two images together and seeing "depth" where it's really just 2 different 2d Images that are very similar.

I had a geology class a few years back where we had a sky view of LA (I think it was LA) in an area where there were lots of hills and a little canyon. The picture was on the left page, and a picture of the same area, from a slightly different angle, on the right page.

The teacher gave us these weird sort of glasses, with lenses at slightly different angles, and had us look down through the glasses at the two pictures, side by side. The glasses weren't electronic, they just had little stands to prop them a certain height of the page. Looking through the glasses, the canyons and hills of the area we were looking at, seemed to pop off the page.

It was just an optical illusion, the difference in angles gave the brain a little more info on the "depth" of picture, and the brain used that to make it seem like a 3d image. That's all it is, the new 3d stuff does the same thing, it just does it with electronic images and glasses that tint the lenses rapidly and a few other tricks.

Name one movie that has come out in 3D and [i]only[/[i] in 3D please. (Besides Captain EO or any movies exclusive to a theme park.)

This is the rediculous part of this argument, any movie that comes in 3d, comes in a 2d version. I know, because I'm a fan of the 3d but more often than not if I go with my GF I have to settle for the 2D version.

3D doesn't ruin movies, it's an option, like having popcorn. See the 2D version if you must, but quit complaining that an additional version for those of us who like it, some how ruins the movie as a whole.

I guarantee you that if games do go native 3D, they will have options to turn it off as well. No one is forcing 3D on you.
  3. So Inspirations, I thought, only came in 3 sizes. Small, medium, large.

    Damage- 25%, 33%, 50%

    Endurance - 25%, 33%, 50%

    Resistance - 10%, 15%, 20%

    Defense - 12.5%, 25%, 33%.

But tonight I went to the auction house and I noticed new ones in the list, or at least ones I hadn't seen before, under the "Super!" Heading.

    Damage - Furious Rage - 100%

Endurance -Back in The Fight - 100%

    Defense - Amazing Luck - 50%

    Resistance - Resistant - 30%.

These are all pretty amazing stats, and there are some for, Accuracy, break free type, and wakies too with some amazing stats for inspirations.

Perhaps the most amazing is one that has the Icon of a W, like a wentworths teleporter inspiration and it's called "Ultimate". The description says : "Level Difference +1. Ultimate Shifts your Combat Level by 1 when compared to the Combat Level of the enemies you are fighting. You may only use one Ultimate Inspiration at a time."

IE. It's a level shift in inspiration form ,though it doesn't say how long it lasts.

So when did these "Super" level inspirations show up and how do I get them?
  4. I've had 2 drop from a mob several times now across my 7 incarnate characters I've been playing.

It's kind of neat, I've heard of 3 happening but haven't had it happen to me yet.

If I had to guess I'd say you' never get more than 8 from a mob. I have a hunch it's something to do with the way it does the math for the drops. My hunch is, it decides how many to drop for the team, with no more than the team size. IE a mob goes down, it says 4 people on the team, we can do up to 4 drops. Then after it decides how many, it assigns them, but not always to different people.

So it'd never do more than 8 per mob. But that's rampant speculation based on little hard information.

It's less a question of Praetoria being too dark for a carnival and more a question of it being too SERIOUS for a carnival, especially when Cole wouldn't really let free agents provide uncontrolled entertainment.
Well, if that's what was meant, that's not what was said. The statement was that Praetoria was too "McGrimDark" for the Carnival.

However, saying it's too "serious" for a Carnival.... I think that's a stretch too. We've seen only a portion of Praetorian Earth. And while The portion we've seen is very serious in many ways, the people there have to have entertainment of some sort. Even if Cole controls the planet, he obviously can't control every single person and place. Even right under his nose in the area around his capitol, he can't control everything. So to say that there couldn't be an underground Carnival running around having fun without Cole's approval, I think that's a stretch.

Besides, saying Praetoria is too serious for a carnival makes the assumption that Carnival wouldn't be serious, or would be "fun" and all that. I don't think it would have to be a fun carnival. The Carnival of Light could be a group of people who dress in a Carnival like fashion to spite Cole, or make themselves look fun so as to distract or disarm their opponents who wouldn't take a carnival clown seriously until it was too late. Or they could just be a bunch of psychic psychos who like dressing up in Carnival themed clothes.

If it's a resistance group, they might run around spreading merry making just to spite cole, they could have little under ground circuses and raves, shielded by Devore and her psychics as a way of recruiting people or thumbing their noses at Cole.

Look the bottom line is this, you can't say the Carnival of Light wouldn't fit into Praetoria some where. Praetoria is a big place and it's got a lot going on both on and under the surface. If the Devs want to, they could find a way to put the Carnival into Praetoria and make it make sense, nothing about Praetoria makes the two mutually exclusive. You can't say it's too dark, or too serious or too, what ever, because Praetoria isn't just one thing, it was designed to be complex and have a lot going on, and the Carnival of Light could add well to that if they did it right.

True, but that doesn't tell us when that arc happens, in relation to when the events of the praetorian arcs take place.

If Praetorian events occur in April, and the Tina arc occurs in September, then there is a gap of time where that Carnival could have been formed, that a character that came from praetoria, wouldn't have seen it, since it would have been formed after they came to Primal Earth.
  7. I find it interesting the way the Dev team uses their new tech. When ever they come up with a new trick they just love to use the heck out of it. They got dopple gangers figured out, they used it for a whole issue, they get invisible minions figured out, start using those for an issue. Branching dialog trees, etc etc.

Going forward we will see a few more invisible types like this, but more few and far between now that they've been heavily featured.
  8. Alright, so I don't really play AE arcs. I've tried a few times, and maybe I should try again, but I don't and I have 3 major reasons.

1.) As many have already said, there is a lot of bad, un fun, not well written arcs out there. They just aren't good, and it's hard to sift through the tons of bad arcs, farms, wanna be farms, and all the other junk, (Half of it seems to me like these people aren't even trying to make arcs for others, just for themselves or friends to mess around in.) To get to the good stuff.

2.) Rewards aren't as good. I have a lot of alts I'm always building new characters and needing new IOs, and even basic IOs add up in costs. No Merits, no purples, and now no incarnate stuff. What time I do have in the game I want to spend building as well as playing, and so I want that extra income of good drops etc that finance a lot of my activities, or I want to be able to get my incarnate drops etc.

3.) This is probably the biggest one. AE has a stigma attached to it in my mind. It was a great idea, but the number of problems it had when it first launched, the constant abuses, the sheer number of farm missions, the fact that any time I see AE teams it's usually some sort of farm, (Not saying others aren't out there, I'm saying I don't run into them.) And the number of times I've gotten random spam invites from team looking to pad their AE team etc.

It's all built up to be this sort of thing where I just generally ignore the feature. It has too much bad juju associated with it in my brain. Which is more a personal\mental thing than anything else, but I really think had the launch of AE and the issues with abuses been handled better, I'd be more interested in the system as a whole.

That's not to say that AE broke the game or farmers are so rampant that they need to be dealt with by the Devs or what ever. It's been mostly fixed, and having AE in the game doesn't bother me in the slightest, I'm glad some people get good use out of it with their arcs and story telling, but I'm just not that interested in it.

Maybe one day I will be. I do like the building.

They might as well issue a Fedora and a hard boiled narration with each character.
Saying a place is nothing but GrimMcDark seems to be painting it as a place where there is nothing pleasant and no bright side. Now the aesthetics of Praeotoria, Color, palette etc absolutely set a tone.

Nova Praetoria is bright, pretty, lush, a visual reminder of the promise of paradise and utopia.

Nuetropolis is dark, gray, indsutrial, filled with smoke, this is the harsh reality , the behind the curtain, of the "utopia."

The aesthetics of Praetoria absolutely set a tone. There is other substance beneath the aesthetics, absolutely but that doesn't mean they don't set a tone.

As for the subtance, well yes, Praetoria is a flawed society with issues, but every so society has flaws and issues. There are 4 paths in Praetoria, and the Responsibility and Warden paths aren't anti-heroic, in fact they are meant to be the struggle for ideals without hurting innocents, compromising values etc while Power and Crusader are the more wreckless and irresponsible stories.

Do the stories have happy endings? Not really, but they don't really have endings either, they have "to be continueds" and not all of it is bad. Praetoria is filled with examples of people willing to fight the good fight or sacrifice themselves for higher ideals, many would consider that noble, heroic or even bright spots in a turmoiled area.

The main point is that Praetoria is not all one way or another, it's shades of gray, not all dark gray not all light gray.

The point of my statement was, some one was mentioning how out of place something like the "Carnival of Light" would be in a place that is completely "McGrimDark". This doesn't hold up since Praetoria isn't all "McGrimDark", it's a lot of things, and it's complicated, painting it with one color or brush is an overly simplified way of looking at things, and in such a complicated place, in a superheroic setting, carnival themed pshychics wouldn't be all that out of place, certainly not any more so than yellow skinned super steroided gangsters and mindless zombiefied lab experiments.
  10. So I wanna start a new Stone\ Tank and I'm debating between fire melee and stone melee.

I was wondering what the pro's and cons of each set are and if either works better than the other with Stone armor.

    Thoughts?

    Sums up my feelings exactly.

I really hope future installments tie new abilities and such more closely with new content. IE getting the Incarnate stuff FROM the incarnate content, rather than now, getting the Incarnate stuff then doing new TFs.

But Yeah it's cool so far, just waiting on the rest of the alpha boosts and the start of Judgement.
  12. Honestly I was a little disappointed to find no Carnival of Light in Praetoria, since it was strongly hinted at that that they would be in the New Praetoria. Back when new salvage from praetoria showed up on the market, the info stated they dropped from Praetorian DE or Praetorian Clockwork or Praetorian Carnival of Light.

Plus some one brought it up at Hero Con 2 and it was more or less confirmed IIRC.

I have a feeling they will show up in future Praetorian content some where, Devore's presence in Praetoria makes me think the devs have something in mind for it.

Its a relic from when Praetoria was a goatee mirror universe and rather than rework the concept as DeVore's elite cadre of resistance troops or something, we have what it is: a single reference or two in a mission or three.
If it's just an old relic from those days, then why did the Devs put references to the Carnival of Light in the New Tina arc? If they didn't want to do something with that gorup they could have easily left it out.

Praetoria isn't all McGrimDark, since Nova Praetoria and much of Imperial city are rather bright and lightly colored. Also the whole bit about Praetoria being shades of gray, nothing is what it seems etc. The Carnies of light, a bunch of lightly colored mask wearing psychics isn't all that out of place, since we already have an army of mask wearing psychics in praetoria, they are called Seers.

The Carnival could simply be Ex-Seers or people who went underground to avoid becoming seers etc. Or hell maybe Seers are recruited from captured carnival of light soldiers, as well as civilians etc.

And Speaking of... You're assumption that having the Carnival of Light would require some sort of schism between the resistance and Devore, is based on what?

Devore could be the secret leader of the carnival, she could communicate with them psychically without anyone knowing. The Carnival could be the psychic branch of the resistance. The Carnival could have some sort of alliance with the resistance while operating independantly and Devore could work for both. I mean the resistance is all about taking down cole, if the Carnival of Light is also about taking down Cole, (And from what we know it seems that way.) They could easily team up with the resistance.

Also, we know that by level 20, Devore is with the resistance. But who is to say that Primal Earth's Tina Arc is happening at the same time as the Praetorian arcs. Tina's arc could be well after the events in the praetorian arcs, and some time between the end of those arcs and the start of Tina's arcs, her Carnival of Light is formed.

So no, it doesn't have to be a relic of the old arcs, and I'd bet it probably isnt.
  13. I've had a few I've grown to hate, non got very far before I deleted them.

The only two I can think of right off the top of my head are:

My Martial Arts\Energy Stalker. I found the martial arts set to be boring and repetitive on the Stalker, (the assasins strike bored me and it just wasn't fun.) And Energy Aura.... I just didn't like that set at all. I'm sure it's good for something, but around level 24 I just realized I couldn't stand to play the char anymore and deleted her.

I later re-rolled her as a claws\Ninjitsu stalker, and she was my fist level 50 villain, I love that one, fun, fast, lots of toys etc, much better suited to me.

The other one was my Defender, an Empathy\ Psychic Blaster Defender. This was LONG before Power customization and I just could not get into the pink psychic blast. Among other issues. However I loved his name for an Emp Defender, so after I toyed with other alts for quite a while I came back ,scrapped him and used the name for an Empathy \ Radiation Blast defender, got him to 50, love playing him.
  14. Yeah, kicking some one for using their powers just seems dumb.

It's like kicking some one for not joining your SG, there is no real rationale for it, it's just some sort of juvenile power trip.

  16. Money's tight, so I can't really. I was gonna go for it until I found out War Witch wasn't part of the deal.

Ohh well, she's probably better off there doing all that Lead Designer stuff she does. I'm sure the game is better off with her doing her job as well.

    Defense Question

Many will consider this a newb question but I never thought to ask it before.

How is defense calculated when it comes to Melee, Range and AoE defense, and Damage type defense.

    Example:

I have 20% defense to Ranged, and I have 20% psionic defense. Does that mean I have 40% defense to a ranged psionic shot?

Or does it do a calculation of Ranged defense, then a second calculation of Psionic defense?

Or is there some other formula?

Is Melee, Ranged and AoE defense weighted differently? I mean if I have capped Melee Defense does that mean I'll be nearly unhittable to melee attacks regardless of damage type?
  19. Alright, so just test drove my tanker on an ITF and I have to say, I'm very happy with the results.

Quick note, before when I checked my stats I didn't have 3 slotted Combat Jumping on, so I actually have an additional nearly 4% bonus to everything I listed above.

    Highlights of the ITF:

    - I died only once. It was a bit of a fluke, fighting Rommy in the third mission, Requiem was shooting at me as well, I was holding aggro and my HP just dropped. Not entirely sure what happened.

    - I was able to hold aggro extremely well, even when holding large groups on me, my health never dipped below 50%, never used hoar frost.

-A ambush in the second mission spawned right where I was standing. With no team mates around I used Ice patch, Ice storm, and with CE giving me some slow, I tanked the entire ambush for a solid minute before others came back to help me finish them off.

    - Cysts exploding did not even scratch me when I stood right on top of them

    - Stood Right next to Rommy in the final fight, did not get stunned when he rezzed.

All in all this Tanker is very sturdy. I'm very happy with it and since I'm revamping several alts right now I'm likely going to leave him this way for now, after I get the steadfast +def that is.

And yes, I was reading those states on Makos and Scirroccos a bit backwards, but honestly with things the way they are right now, I'm probably not going to change much. I like the way this place and in an ITF with tons of Lethal damage, I wasn't having any problems so I don't know if I really *need* to revamp anything. I might in the future, and I'll be consulting this thread when I do but for now I am happy. Thank you all so much! This tanker rocks now.

I'd recommend posting your build; I'm certain we could get you to the soft-cap for S/L/E/NE and improve your overall stats. (BTW, other than Icicles, your toggles do *not* need 2 end reduction, so use those slots elsewhere)
Mako's isn't in my AoEs its in my Melee attacks. Smashing haymaker would give me 1.88 to S\L, but Makos gives me 3.75 to my E\N, which I'm happy with.

I did not get a Steadfast +def, but I might put that in one of my powers, and have only a 4 slotted aegis, since the +3 Global Defense would be nice.

My PbAoE is not Eradication, but it is Scirrocco's dervish which gives me the same bonuses to defense.

I may or may not *need* 2 end redux in my toggles, but I'm running like 6 toggles on this guy at the moment, that's a lot of End drain, and this character has always been heavy on end drain, so I want those there.

To Hypers question, I slotted EA with 2 basic Lvl 50 End Mod Ios and 2 Basic Recharge IOs. so it'll pop up quickly and give me max endurance, I didn't put any Def bonus in there, but I suppose I could if it makes a huge dif. Though the buff from EA lasts for 45 seconds and I have it recharging in 32, so it'll be perma.

All in all I'm pretty happy with the stats on this build, I don't know how much more I'm going to tweak it at the moment, but I'll still happily review suggestions!
  21. Alright, it's done.

You're guide was very helpful and I'm reasonably happy with the results.

Weave, Frozen Armor, Combat Jumping and Glacial Armor, all 5 slotted, 3 level 50 defense IOs, 2 End Redux, per power.

    3- 5 slotted Aegis sets.

    3- 6 Slotted Mako's Bite.

    2- 4 Slotted Curtail Speed.

1- 6 Slotted Positrons Blast (Put it in Ice Storm Just for fun.)

    1- 5 Slotted Scirroco's Dervish.

With the Toggles Running my stats are:

    S\L 23.63% Resistance.

    Fire 33.76% Resistance.

    Cold 90% Resistance (Capped)

    3% N\T\P resistance.

No Energy resistance but I think I can live with that.

    Ranged Defense 19.17%

    Melee Defense 9.17%

    AoE Defense 25.11%

    S\L Defense 38.36%

    F\C Defense 24.55%

    E\N Defense 41.49%

    Psionic 7.92% Defense.

    No Toxic Defense.

So I'm pretty good against S\L\F\C across the board. Cold especially being an Ice tank.

I'm a bit weak in resistances for E\N\T\P, but my E\N Defense is pretty good.

T\P will be harsh on me but I can live with that, 2700 HP when I activate hoarfrost and it regens pretty fast.

As a bonus got a little 9% damage and 6% recharge bonuses and Recovery is 2.3%.

I think Endurance is going to be the sticky point on this guy, so tomorrow morning I'll be working towards his new Alpha Boost: Cardiac Total Core Revamp, which will help endurance and add to the defenses.

Thank you so much again Hyper, you're guide was great. The stats aren't incredible now, but much better than they were, can't wait to test drive this guy in the morning!

So which is it? Is there enough lore or isn't there? In my opinion, there is enough lore in the tasks that drop Incarnate Components to allow for both the end table reward AND unlocking the ability.
So what's the problem? They put it in an arc to give people lore and let people meet Ramiel so they know where to go for info on the Incarnate system.

The arc doesn't take long, it's not terrifically hard and its additional content.

Do you really want the Devs to start releasing Issues that have only new rewards for OLD content?

Hey Issue 20: New Incarnate powers. No new content, have fun with more ITFs and the same ol arcs.

Is it repetitive? Yes it is to an extent. However no one is forcing people to have 10 alts or get incarnate stuff for 30 level 50s. If people are going to play that many characters, at some point all of it will get repetitive and the devs can't design the came JUST for people with alt-idos.

The rest of his dialog, available on the wiki, is well worth reading carefully for anyone interested in CoH lore.

One interpretation is that while Mender Silos / Lord Nemesis is a master of the Xanatos Gambit, he's far less good at Xanatos Speed Chess, and the possible interference from multiple alternate universes at seemingly random (unpredictable from within our universe) times forces him to play a much more off-the-cuff game than he's comfortable with.

Another weird interpretation is that Mender Silos / Lord Nemesis isn't actually that good a planner after all, just one of the first people to abuse time travel to give himself clues and suggestions. When he's actually forced into a situation involving complex plots at war and competing time travelers that defy predestination, he starts doing far less well. Ouroboros is primarily an attempt to get all major time travelers aligned into either a fairly predictable path, or in direct opposition to that path, to make reality easier to retroactively foresee.
I did read through the text once, I apparently missed some things.

though if Mender Silos is hundreds or thousands of years old, he must be an incarnate too...

Granted, he hits hard. But he isn't that tough and his clones are weak as hell, easily 2 shotable. My tank isn't that damaging and still could bounce between him and the clones and work him down.

My blasters are squishy and yet, a couple small purples, a couple small reds, and I ripped through him, some KB and he goes in the lava and his little clones fall so fast its dumb.

He isn't that hard, if all else fails, bring a shivan, or amy, or that new temp power that summons PPD.

As for honoree. Yeah it's a pain but 3 people should be more than enough to do it. Clear around him, kick his but, end of story. I did solo it on a squishy blaster, while it was a pain it was do-able.

These things are challenging to a degree, but they are not nearly as hard as some people are making them out to be, they just arent.
