  1. Hrm. Yet, I coulda sworn that contacts worked on combat level.
  2. I want to say I tried them, but I could be wrong and it might have only been the 7600 (which they broke).

The question is, were you having the same issues with the 186 drivers?

I've long suspected it might be a BIOS thing at the root of the problem, somehow, but who knows.
  3. The temp powers only check Threat Level, not Combat Level. So if you level during the mission, and reach the proper reward threshold, you still don't get your temp power reward.

I assume it works the same way with Safeguards.

/unsigned just on principle. The game is based on american comic books/superheroes, not japanese ones.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, because the difference is so vast.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think you have to admit that their is certainly a different design aethetic that is used in anime versus what is used in Bronze/Silver-Age comics such as the ones on which CoH/V is based.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm coming at it from a more character-based perspective. It seems strange to look down upon spiky-haired pretty boys with huge swords, while idolizing a Superman who is an alien, holds a perfect male physique, and can rip tanks apart with his bare hands. Different methods, same effect.

    [ QUOTE ]
Given that, the difference is significant enough that I can say I would probably not like any of the extremely niche items that would be suggested. However, as I have said before, if the items added would be of a slightly more generic nature, then I am all for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course. I don't wholeheartedly agree with most of the examples posted myself, and I doubt any of them would make it in without being made at least slightly more generic. I just like the basic idea of an anime booster pack, really.

    [ QUOTE ]
Admittedly, American comics are definately moving to merge stylistically more and more with the manga or anime style. However, we aren't really talking about modern American comics when we talk about the design and art that goes into CoH/V as much as we are about the more classic/iconic art of the Bronze/Silver-Age.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seems like an odd position to take, as CoX draws upon every era of comics there are.

    3. Galaxy also has Sewer runs, and Origin based first contacts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Galaxy City does not have an entrance to the Sewers.

And, to repeat myself from a thread just like this from last week: Leave my Galaxy City the hell alone.

I'd much rather someone come up with a decent solution to curb farming rather than just shove the problem where they personally don't have to see it.

    Resurrection IO

And here I thought this thread was for IO sets for rez powers.

  8. I'm pretty sure that was called "drama" in my old SG.
  9. Well, some months ago I had a problem where nVidia's latest drivers would break my cards. (Was running a 6800, was trying to upgrade to a 7600.)

I solved the issue when, luckily, a member of the Steam boards gave me the last known working driver for the 7600, 175.19.

Now I've got myself a spiffy 7900, but the exact same problem has cropped up. Installing the latest drivers breaks anything using DirectX (including the spinning nVidia logo on the control panel), creating holes in geometry and stretched polygons.

The big problem here is that while the 175.19 driver works, it wasn't particularly stable with my 7600 and it's just plain incompatible with Guild Wars (freezes on start-up).

So can anyone recommend me a better driver? Third party, if necessary, since nVidia evidently isn't keen on supporting older cards?

    Edited: Driver number for clarity.

Edited 2: Found a wonderful third party driver that fixed all of my problems. Woot!
  10. Topknot Guy has always just been Topknot Guy.
  11. It does have a visual effect - it makes the target sweat. I'm not joking.

It's very hard to see, it's very silly, and I don't like it.

i think what is being said is that when you're teamed and both of you take your cape mission, which happens to be from both 1st contacts, they should count as being the same and have the little box come up for the person whose mission didn't get run.

    do i have that right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, this is correct. Basically you can't auto-complete if the cape (or aura) missions are from separate contacts.

It would also be nice since we could pull away from Burke's nonsensical "I hate Arachnos, but you have to follow their rules juuuust thiiiis once." malarkey.
  13. The reason why we haven't seen them yet probably has to do with the fact that I don't believe there's an actual mounting point on player models for thigh and back items.

Though it would be nice if Jay added some Liefeld-esque pouch options under Shoulders that sit around the bicep.

My big problem with you're blanket denial of all s/l damage weapon sets is that, while I'd much rather have Psychic Melee or Sonic Melee than new s/l weapon sets, I'd rather have Staff Melee, Spear Melee, and Streetfighting than Electrical Hammer, Flaming Sword, or Ice Axe. Those last three are simply too far out of bounds for me to make more than a single character functionality concept with.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. S/L is the way to go in order to preserve character concept options. I have a Dual Blades Scrapper who uses psi-blades. Sure they only do Lethal damage, but considering if they were part of an actual Psi-blade set they'd still be doing at least some Lethal damage, I don't care.

If Dual Blades were "Fiery Rapiers of Flaming Death!" I don't think you'd see quite so many characters using them.

It's still a good idea... I just wish some folks would differentiate between what is speculated vs. a cold fact. /e shrug

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you're referring to speculation about the settlement, it's a simple thing to infer. If they were able to release the offline character creator, they would.

    AE "Hero" Option

The first rule of RP is "If something doesn't mesh, flub it."

But anyway, yes, that option would be nice. Though I also don't quite understand the...sizable push for it. It's QoL at most.

Bingo. Characters made on the actual servers can be policed by players and GMs, in case of copyright/trademark infringement. Whereas an offline creator would not be, which chafes Marvel a bit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But you wouldn't be able to -do- anything with those costume designs except either use them for existing characters, or to speed up character creation, or make AE missions with them, all of which CAN be policed. Otherwise its just a text file on a hard drive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not going to claim it's that great of a reason, but legalities are annoying like that. It's theorized that it's part of the settlement between NCsoft and Marvel.

Hopefully I16 will let us customize every little prop the characters use as well as colors, like the Targeting Drone, Aid Self tricorder, bana... err... spines, etc. Not expecting it, however, outside of the currently non-customizable weapon sets, such as, again, Spines.

[/ QUOTE ]The problem with making Spines customizable is that they have to make animations customizable first; the projectile spines can't be changed by the weapon customization we already have, since they're part of the animation. And I doubt we're getting any animation customization in I16, so the best you can hope for, I think, is red bananas.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I still like the forum-spun idea to get around that limitation: Let us at least customize the pattern/size of the spines.

    A Teaming Badge

    [ QUOTE ]
Putting it in those terms one can almost question the whole idea of "accolade powers" in the first place. *shrugs*

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a question of intent. I don't think accolades were meant to sweeten badges for everyone else, I think they were just supposed to be rewards for investing in the badge system. The difference is very small, admittedly.

It helps that accolade powers aren't really essential.
  21. What makes much more sense is switching to an Assault Rifle (or other appropriate gun) as the emanation point of any other Blast set, rather than making them subsets of AR.

Of course, this is essentially Tier 2 or 3 Power Customization, which we don't know is feasible/possible yet.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
They already made one, when they released City of Hero. Legal issues shut down its continued development.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its not a bad idea but I always wanted a VEAT Mastermind that could summon the many different arachnobots. With the arachnobot blasters being your "Protector bots" and the Toxic Tarantula being your "Assault bot" 2 Tarantulas as your first "Battle drone" and then 1 fire tarantula for each additional battle drone as your level.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Crab Spider + Black Scorpion PPP. They're not permanently out, but oh well.

    A Teaming Badge

    1) Adding in some additional reward in an attempt to get people to do something is always, always, always a terrible idea. If people don't want to do something, they probably have a good reason.

    2) Adding in bizarre and arbitrary penalties (and similar "early warning system" badges) are also always a very, very, very bad idea.

    3) If you're really deadset on a teaming badge, there damn well better be a soloing badge too.
  25. Problems:

    1) Which model do you use? There are at least three different models for each. Toxic Tarantulas are on the side of "too dang big".

    2) How do you come up with enough powers for an EAT when there's about 6 existing powers for each, taking into account all three versions?

    3) Costumes? VEATs are humans, and get an early costume slot so if you don't like the Arachnos uniform you can skip out of it. I honestly don't see these being particularly popular considering they're not humanoid at all.
