Quote:Here's a link to all the info you need on your Biostar motherboard. So I plan on getting some new parts for my desktop to help spruce it up a bit to handle some more recent games decently. I plan on keeping my motherboard, cpu and ram the same but I need a gfx card and I figured on getting a new psu also. My current psu is a generic 430W. My mother board is a TA785GE 128M.
I've been running this game with the onboard gfx this mobo comes with. I can run it in quality mode and with the slidder on recomended with minimal issues, untill a trial or ship raid or other large gathering. It's time to finally get a gfx card for this rig. I do manage to run multiple instances on this rig but that's only on minimum gfx.
What kind of gfx card should I get that will play ultra mode, I'm not looking to run all the bells and whistles. How big of a psu should I be looking for? I have 4Gigs of ram should I get another 2gig stick or 2 more?
If you need to know the specs I can post a cpu z readout.
Thanks all.

Note: You'll most likely need to do a BIOS update to use some of them.
Note: If you can get us the info asked for in my
thread, it'll help us to know everything you have now and whether or not upgrading in-place makes sense.
Also, according to the Biostar page listed above, it says the motherboard is DDR2 memory. Period. Says nothing about DDR3 at all.
Your motherboard should support pretty much all modern PCI-E video cards. You'd just need to upgrade your PSU.
Also, can you get us the make and model of case you have? We don't want to recommend a card for you only to find out it won't fit.
As for RAM. You currently have 4GB. Is that 4 1-GB modules? or 2 2-GB modules?
If the former, you're probably better off upgrading your RAM than adding.
If 2x2, then adding makes more sense. But only if your OS supports it. If you're on 32-bit Windows (XP, Vista, Win7), it won't do a darn thing.
If you're on (or going to spring for a copy of) Win7 64-bit, then more memory makes sense.
Also, memory is going to basically cap at 8GB for you. The board will support 16GB, but 4GB DDR2 1066 modules are EXPENSIVE if you can even find them. And for AM2+ chips, you have to use the DDR2 1066 stuff.
Additionally what does your budget look like? In real dollars? -
Quote:FF/Arch defender. Properly built, you're soft-capped to ranged and AoE and one Luck away from it in Melee. Properly played, they never get near you long enough to inflict appreciable damage (lots of "GET THE **** AWAY FROM ME!) powers to make them back off.Hey everybody!
So I've been deeply craving an /Arrows/ character, But I'm not sure what to pair it with, or what Archetype it will work well for :[
I've already attempted a Arch/Dev, and an Arch/Fire blaster and neither worked well for me. I'm a blaster-holic so on terms of ranged attacks that's always my "go-to" AT, but I'm wondering if i'm missing out on ranged ATs.
What other pairings/ATs/ have worked well for you guys on terms of having /Archery/ as a ranged set?
EDIT: I'm not looking for a specific build yet since I'm on my mac, and don't have access to mids :[ So any suggestions are welcome

Quote:Welcome back.Hello everyone! I'm a bit of a veteran, playing from issue 2 until issue 11/12 or so, and I'm glad to have come back after nearly 6 years to see the community still active and seemingly thriving

With Premium, you get a base of two (2) character slots, plus one for every 12 months you have subscribed. I believe you also get two additional if you were subscribed at the time i12 went live (no longer obtainable) and 2 if you applied a Going Rogue code to your account (again, no longer obtainable). Also, if you've bought any additional slots in the past, you have those available too.Quote:Though I do have a a few questions about the "New," state of the game, as a lot has changed! It seems that since I had a previous account, I have a "Premium," account with limited access to archetypes and such, which is simple enough. I upgrade, get almost all of the features I used to have back (including access to all the same archetypes I used to be able to create), but do all of my previous characters become unlocked? It seems like it, but I'm not sure.
Do yourself a favor and run a character up from the new tutorial through the first couple levels. That gives you a major intro to most of the changed systems you can access.Quote:So anyway, what are any tips from players who were around back when i still played but still active today? What big things have changed in the subtleties in the game that can't merely be summed up in the patch notes? This game was one that constantly had some things changing, and I know just scanning through some wiki or patch note pages won't capture some big ways the "Meta" of the game has changed.
I'm not a big scrapper player (Tanks man, Tanks). So I'm not really the best one to comment on this.Quote:I mained a Katana/Regeneration scrapper. Regen used to be the end all, be all of scrapper secondaries, but after a few (justified) nerfs, it was bumped down a bit, but was still pretty darn effective. Is that still true, especially matched up to other secondaries that have since become available? Katana was not the best Primary for a scrapper, though it wasn't really weak either. Has it gotten an increase in power since then? Any nerfs? Has it stayed mediocre? What is the current power structure of modern scrappers?
Well, killing stuff quick, before it can kill you is always nice. But don't discount a good build. There are builds out there that can output PHENOMENAL amounts of damage while maintaining near-tank levels of durability.Quote:Another big question is builds, how useful are they for someone like a scrapper, where I basically never considered changing my power choices unless some of them were changed, or when new powers were released. What is the relevance of them to a pretty straightforward DPS?
Do yourself a favor and download a copy of Mids.
Scrappers have a slight edge in damage.Quote:One last overarching question has to do with the option to be any archetype as either a hero, or a villain. I saw this coming a while back, and am glad to have seen it implemented, though I also saw potential problems then and those concerns still exist. Are Tankers outclassed by brutes in tanking in any way, or are they still king? Scrappers and Brutes seem even more alike than the Tanker and Brute, are they essentially interchangeable for most purposes aside from the very highest level content? Brutes and Scrappers power levels seem very close. I also preferred hero side, would it be wiser to re roll a character to take the place of my main as a fun vet still pretty effective Tanky-DPS instead of my current Katan/Regen Scrapper?
Brutes have a slight edge in durability.
Tanks are generally tops for durability. They've gotten better with regards to damage due to the new bruising mechanic (Tanker Tier1 attack applies a minor resist debuff when it hits). Tank specialty isn't really damage output. It's combat/aggro control.
With the proper build, Invuln is pretty much second only to Stone for durability. Do a search for Call_Me_Awesome's guide to Invulnerability and the Defense Soft Cap. It's all equally applicable to Brutes and Scrappers too.Quote:EDIT: oh, and when I started falling out of the game (Around issue 11), Invul was a pretty terrible on paper, especially compared to willpower when it first came out, IIRC, has invul gotten any buffs since then? Was I just misinformed in my assumptions that it was a bad tanking/scrapper secondary set?
Take a look at the CMA guide I showed you earlier.Quote:I also didn't play long enough after invention enhancements were released to really get into them, how important are they late game? Most of my history had to do with either hamidon enhancements or just plain ones.
By itself, Invuln is sort of a middling combination of defense and resist.
With the proper IO choices, you can soft-cap your defense for all types of damage save Toxic (which doesn't have a defense type) and Psi (though you're more or less covered here due to the overlap of Ranged/AoE positional defense.
Any high-end toon is capable of a some fairly awesome feats. But there are builds out there that are absolutely crazy. Are such builds required? Hell no! And they aren't cheap either. But they're there as an example of exactly how flexible the Invention System really is. -
Quote:Do you have a software firewall installed on your machine? Besides the default Windows Firewall.I have the launcher installed. when i go to open it i get an error message that says
Unable to contact launcher update server
there is either a problem with your internet connection or the update server is currently down you may retry or skip the update. if i hit retry i get the same message if i hit skip the launcher opens but instead of the splash page i get currently unavailable check your network connections and try again.
If so, you may need to manually allow the NCSoft Launcher's EXE file access to the internet. -

Quote:Bought a case of MechWarrior: DarkAge at GenCon the year it debuted. I'd playtested it, and never played the game after that. So why'd I do it? Someone paid me for the case.Have you never played any trading/miniature game on the market
I avoided MtG and all its clones. I detest "collectible" games. I don't want to play against someone who's gotten randomly lucky or spent hundreds of dollars on "valuable" cards and has the deck (pun intentional) stacked in their favor.
In terms of costume pieces, and the like, I'd rather have a way to earn them in-game or spec-buy them on the market. I don't and won't "roll the dice" for them using a real-money analog. -
Quote:Considering that most of the rest is chaff to me?By that logic, every time you engage in combat in the game, you're gambling. Every swing you take or the enemy takes, the results are left up to random chance. If you want to be nitpicky technical on the definition, you don't have to be spending money each swing for it to be gambling...
But, here's something to consider: Even the absolute worst draw from a Super Pack has more than a buck's worth of consumables, merits, and such. Kind of a piss-poor gambling system when you're guaranteed to get more than your money's worth every time, isn't it?
Is the alternate, non-costume drop stuff useful? Sure, not debating that.
Would I have straight-bought them as separate items? Nope.
So, just because I'm given my lifetime supply of Stuff{TM} doesn't mean I consider it "worth it". Again, I'd much rather have the option to buy the costume pack, even at an artificially inflated price than wangle my way through Magic: The CoH'ening. -
Quote:Think about buying up almost all the tickets in a raffle.I'm curious how it is gambling if you are guarenteed a prize at the end of each one, true you have no control over WHICH prize you get.
You're pretty much guaranteed a prize. And yes, the odds of "losing" have been destroyed. But it's still gambling. -
Quote:I'm sure the guy on a one-armed bandit pulling triple 7's is happy with the result too. That doesn't change the fact of what is taking place.Except I'm happy with every result I got. It's gambling to some, fun for others. And that's why the 'legal threats' from bozos who want to try to strong-arm Paragon to put the Elemental Order set on the market can go jump off a bridge into a pit of ravenous bunnies.
As to "legal threats".
Paragon is free to do with the game what they will. And minors can buy CCGs and the like. Those that view this development as unhealthy and dubious are free to not spend cash on this. That's about the extent of this. -
Actually no. Even with "guaranteed" prizes, it's still gambling. The same way any "collectible" game is. You're putting money down for a "chance" to get something you want.
Granted, the odds as you go along are better for getting specific items. But it's still down to the RNG what you're getting.
And yeah, it's your money, do as you will. Simply do it with your eyes open. -

Quote:Have you unlocked the pieces through buying super packs yet?I am having trouble locating the Elemental Order facemask and chest pieces at the tailor. Where can I find them? Someone mentioned the chest piece was under robes but I can't even find that, lol.
Found robes. Yeah, I rarely change costumes.
If not, you won't see them.
You can't buy the costume pack like you do others. They've made the dubious decision to make the EO pieces ONLY available through gambling on super packs. -
Sorry, I find the use of the term "Costume Bundle" to be highly misleading.
It's not a costume bundle. It's a costume set that you have to buy all sorts of extraneous crap to (hopefully) assemble. -
Quote:And I suppose you want a pony too!Nothing against explosions. I like explosions.
But some (well written) story would be nice too.
Get real! This is Bay we're talking about.
With Bay, you get:
- Lots of military hardware
- Explosions
- More explosions
- A chase scene or three
- BaySPLOSIONS!
- Eye candy (both the CG and female persuasions).
- Oh, did I mention explosions?
-
The basic problem here is someone has forgotten that people want OPTIONS in how they acquire things. What keeps happening here is that they keep handing us "The One True Way" to do something.
We get costume packs that are "limited time only", when they should be doing "discount now, more expensive later".
We get costume packs that can ONLY be gotten in a random, gambling-esque manner with a bunch of other (admittedly valuable) crap many people don't care about.
It's like trying to get cable TV and your provider telling you that all you can get is the $150 "everything and the kitchen sink" package (plus $50/month for premium channels), when all you want is basic cable.
Yeah, these things are OPTIONAL. But people still want them and are being told they're REQUIRED to participate in a system they detest to get the stuff.
It's bullcrap, plain and simple. -

Just wanted to let you know that I am very excited to bring to you something that you have been asking for, for a long time...
By some small miracle I had some spare time in my schedule in this milestone. So rather than spend the day twiddling my thumbs, I have ported the following Costume Pieces over to female:

Now I MAY be crazy (probably am...COOOOL!), but I vaguely remember this situation NOT being the case and having chat bubbles float above my character's head, regardless of the height.
-
Honestly, with all the XP boosters in the game nowadays (temp powers, Patrol XP, etc) does a double XP weekend REALLY bring anything to the game anymore?

Happy "Gah! It's cold out here! Hey! Watch what..get that outta my mouth. HEY! YOU HIT ME! I just wanna go back home! THIS SUCKS! AHHH! WHO ARE YOU LADY!" day.
And if you think you feel old NOW, when you've just BARELY surmounted The Hill, give it a couple years.
