Seems all anyone cares about any more is numbers. Minmaxed builds that can solo AV's and GM's. Crashless nukes.

It -makes sense in any MMO- to have singular bad guys that can wipe whole city blocks and possibly beat assembled heroes.

It -makes sense- that your super attack that you summon every ounce of energy to fire leaves you winded and unable to attack for a bit.

At least, it makes sense to me. Might not to everyone, I know.

Again, all the above is merely my opinion. Completely without basis in any other fact than my feelings. I do not wish to be "proven" wrong with a load of numbers, because I don't care about numbers. I care about what -I- call fun, and not what you call fun. (Insofar as my fun does not impede upon your fun)

Thanks for talking down about someone else's playstyle! Very broad-minded of you.

Some people play just to play the game.
    Cool. Great. Fine. Wonderful.
Some people do it for goal-oriented "I want to do X, Y and Z" reasons.
    Some people RP.
Some play "hardcore" (death = delete).
    Some people are base editors.
Some people are AE mission designers.
    Some people farm.
    Some people market like maniacs.
And tons of other things I'm NOT going to waste time enumerating.
    PLUS
Some people like playing numbers games (min-maxing). To them, tweaking up builds until they're so tight you couldn't pass an electron through any of their seams IS fun!

Plus, people tend to LIKE "winning". So gaining a statistical edge by tweaking one's build and being cognizant of the the real numbers behind everything allows people to come out of encounters successfully with greater frequency.
  3. Basically, flat attack sets have, essentially, been done to death. They've pretty much covered the gamut of typed attacks. And the main gimmick for them is "Discover which attack chain yields maximum damage for you".

Now they're venturing into attack sets where powers are having "cumulative" effects beyond simply raw damage (like Momentum).

This is a Good Thing. As it helps differentiate the playstyles of these powers moreso than:

    Code:
    Recharge = X so Attacks A, C, D, and F will yield maximum damage of Z
Note: I'm not necessarily saying I *like* all of these secondary augmentation mechanics in my play. But I understand the need for them to help keep powersets and playstyles fresh.

Yeah. It'd be funny to see a nuke blaster running around going

But, normally, those sorts of things shouldn't happen often.

And this'll actually be the first year I'm not:

    • At GenCon
    • In the middle of prepping for it

    YAY!

Now, at least, I know what I'm doing with my day off!

Now you know what I'm saying about irritation.

As to the exclusivity "period". Cool. That's really all people are asking for.

I'm sorry that people (myself included) had to dig at you so hard to get this sort of response. But there are times when your "diplomatic answers" just get in the way. Or worse, makes it worse.

Hopefully we won't have to rake you over QUITE so many coals to get an "unflowery" response next time.

Fine. Have a twenty in my wallet for it.

I'm not angry. I'm irritated. If I was angry, my account would be suspended and I'd just move on.

That's not what I asked and you know it Andy. You've been acting as if you're somehow stunned or caught off guard at the vehemence of the response here.

And the fact that you're running a promotion isn't the reason people are tearing you a new one over this.

But hey, if Paragon's going to pass up a chance to monetize content, that's on you guys. Never mind that it was the point of putting in a cash store in the first place.

People here ARE cognizant of the difference between "want to" and "can do".

What's got people up in arms is this relapse into lack of foresight that we had thought Paragon had freed itself of months ago.

Did you HONESTLY think that people were NOT going to be getting out pitchforks and torches when you announced something like this? Especially when they'd made it QUITE clear on MULTIPLE occasions that this kind of thing is patently NOT okay?

I'd push it a bit further and say that ANY item that you offer in these contests should, eventually, make their way to the market.

If you want to say 3, 6, or even 12 months of "exclusivity" to a contest, cool (though 12 might be pushing it a bit). Just so long as people have the option to get things like this without being leg-shackled to the vagaries of Paragon's marketing pushes.

THAT is what I have a problem with. Telling people they have the "option" to dink with Twitter, Google+, Facebook, etc is still telling them they have three options:

    • Submit to the social media push
    • Game the social media push
    • Do without

Some people would rather just give you money.

    In short:

In fact, I'm looking at my Twitter feed right now, and a local concert venue just tweeted about how the first person to tweet them back with the answer to a trivia question wins FREE TICKETS to tonight's show! Know why I'm not upset with them over that? Because if I want to go to that show, but I don't win those tickets, I'll have had the opportunity to get them in a way that didn't involve blind luck in direct competition with hundreds or thousands of other people. I could just, you know, buy them.

"Hey, follow us on Twitter and you could win this cool thing for free! Or you could just go to the Paragon Market and buy it."
There's your solution. Twitter account legitimized, man-hours allocated, player base not alienated.

    This EXACTLY.

Telling people the ONLY way they'll EVER get something like this is through the Twitter contest is just guaranteed to piss people off.

    Mission accomplished!

Yup. And what I have to say to that is something that would get me banned from the forums if the forums didn't censor me.

Probably because the blasters have a good chunk of their damage whittled away by said resistances.

Whereas Def/Corr characters can drop the debuffs, strip away the resists, and hit for closer to full damage.

it is doing the damage it should for its new recharge time

removing the crash is just a bonus
Let's look at Inferno for a second.

You can, with a bit of insane effort, get the nuke down to a 90-91 second recharge.

You don't WANT to use it that often, currently, because of how it rapes your Endurance bar.

Now cut that recharge time in half AGAIN. And a little more besides.

With similar crazed effort you can have Inferno going off every 37 seconds or so.

And while it still will take a chunk off your endurance bar (which can be mitigated by endredux), you now have a nuke that can essentially kill everything up to LTs with Build Up and Aim firing off every 37 seconds.

This kind of thing is a MONSTROUS damage buff to blaster types.

Yes, your Monday Punch won't be quite so spectacular, but you can swing it more often and it's STILL pretty damn terrific.

Note: The downside? You'll likely be doing so much DoT to enemies that you DON'T kill that you'll trigger the "run away" code in the AI.

Nobody's asking for "free stuff" (or if they were, I missed it).
Simply stuff that isn't exclusive to contests like this. Even if there's a price tag on them. ESPECIALLY if it is a costume item.
