  1. Right now these services are going up and down faster than...*AHEM*...a thermometer being swapped back and forth between a blast furnace and a barrel of liquid nitrogen.

If the problem is the Intel being flaky and unstable, this is not something the CoH devs can realistically fix. It's not the CoH devs' job to rewrite Intel's drivers for them. There are work-arounds available to trick the Intel setup into being better behaved. But, at the end of the day, the "it's a problem" ball is in Intel's court.

  5. Okay, please don't think of me as a killjoy, but how are you going to overcome the Green mitos? Even with everyone in possession of a full set of nukes, I'm not sure you can overcome the healing ability of one set of them, let alone what'll happen on the other three blooms.

I have uninstalled my graphics and reinstalled it and i didn't get that same crash again, and i got another .dll crash. The graphics are updated and i have checked numerous times and still have no idea why its doing that. I have even lowered the graphics in game so that its not so much stress, but still get the same outcome. I have 3gb of Ram so i know i have enough to run the game, just dont know why im still getting this crash. Can ANYONE help me out or have an idea why its doing that and maybe a resolution if at all possible!!
Can you follow this link and provide us with the CoH Helper and Hijack This logs?

  8. While I feel that the woman in the article got a horribly unfair shake on this, it highlights what I've been saying in security and hacking circles for years.

Don't put ANYTHING on the net that you wouldn't feel comfortable saying/doing/reproducing in front of a law enforcement officer, your mother, a job interviewer, and/or your boss.

Contrary to popular belief, spewing every last insignificant piece of minutae about your life into a venue of potentially SIX BILLION VIEWERS is NOT a good thing.

Yes, 99.999% of them probably will never see it. Of those that do, 99.99% won't really give a damn. Of the fraction of a percent that's left, at least a few are probably people in there you don't want to expose that kind of info to. No matter how harmless it seems at the time.

Remember that Hot Feet isn't auto-hit.

You're going to want to slot some acc in there too.

Maybe go with an pair of Acc/Dam/End in there, and then procs. This'll give you a level 50 common IO's worth of Acc, Damage, and EndRed.

And you've got your own end-replenishment tool. So I'd call it good with 42% EndRed.
  11. Maybe a year or so ago, I'm mentoring a friends son through his first ITF.
I'd made it explicit that this was his first ITF, and that he wasn't a very experienced player. I'd also asked a few questions first that'd lead me to believe that the team captain was going to be running a sedate, non-speeded ITF.

We spash down several times in the first mission because he's running around like a madman and screaming for us to save him when he got too far ahead of us.

Essentially he was playing a "mastermind" and his teammates were his minions.

We finally finish it with some prodding from me, losing one person who got sick of the constant deaths.

So I have a talk with him and ask him to calm down a bit and stick with the team.

We get into the cyst mission and before most of us are done zoning, he's run off and gotten himself killed and is screaming for us to come get him so he doesn't have to go to the hospital.

One more drops and I don't have anything I can give him. So he hosps, and I inform him in team chat that if we were coordinating we wouldn't die so much.

He tells me that dying a bunch is no big deal. Another guy on the team with me says "WRONG ANSWER!" and drops. At this point he's already run off again and just let the kid with me know he should drop.

I have the player note still today and if I ever come across the guy again, I won't be teaming with him.

The next worst was also on an ITF. We'd gotten to Rommy almost seamlessly and then splashed down. We hit him four times and just couldn't do it, burning all our inspies doing so. We didn't have the damage to zerg (3 tanks) and the team leader kept trying to. Finally one other tank and I harrangued him into farming for inspies. So we farmed up a full set of inspies for everyone then proceeded in a classic nictus pull.

Down goes Rommy! Down goes Rommy!

The team captain quit without a word to anyone.

my question now is, am I making a mistake getting the 5770 instead of the 5850?
I know Positron said that the 5770 is working well, but... I don't know, is it going to last me? I mean, the 5770 isn't a "low end" card is it?

Keep in mind I play very few games on my pc. I miiiight try SW:TOR, but I'm mostly buying the GPU for CoX (and Going Rouge of course).
Okay, what might help is an actual budget. How much are you trying to spend? How much CAN you spend if a little extra will get you a system that's a major step up in performance?

And honestly, were I you I'd go back to the GTX 460 over the 5770. The 5850 might perform better, but I don't think you can justify the price jump. It's not that the 5770 is a bad card or anything. It's just that the 460 is hands-down better.

Always dependent on how close you are to a product refresh. If *insert company here* is a month or two out from releasing a new generation, shave a few months off that.

As to the Motherboard... if you are going to be buying an Intel system, go ahead and spend out for a motherboard that will do both Crossfire and SLI.

If you do that you'll be set for multi-gpu regardless of who you get your multi-gpu from.
I disagree. Overwhelmingly, the people who implement SLI/Crossfire are those who do it FROM THE GET GO. Most of the people who buy an SLI system planning to "do it later" and get another card "when it's cheap" never do. Or, by the time they do, there are single card replacements that suck their legacy multi-card setups' doors off.

    You may continue.
Actually Chronos/Cronus are conflated on occasion (for an example, the Percey Jackson novels).
  19. Step Number 12: Run the "Do a system scan and save a logfile"

Note: If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine, you'll get this error. Even running as someone designated a system administrator.

If this happens, browse to the location where you have the file saved, right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator".

You'll have a text file automatically open for you with the results of your Hijack This session. Like the log file you created for CoH Helper, you can save this just in case.

Step Number 13: Go to the CoH Boards and into the Technical Issues & Bugs forum.

Step Number 14: Create a new post.

Give the post a decent title so people don't just get a "HELP ME!". It makes it easier on would-be helpers if they know what they're getting into.

Give a nice description of your problem in the body of the post. Anything and everything you can think of that might be affecting it. A breakdown of your system specs would be nice too.

Now, posts on the boards that are too long will truncate. And there's a LOT of data in the logs. So post only your CoH helper log into the first post.

Step Number 15: Create a follow-up post immediately. In this post, drop the contents of your Hijack This log.

    Step Number 16:
(For people having rubberbanding or inability to connect or stay connected).
(Information in Step 16 courtesy of The_Spad_EU)

In some cases, as in the aforementioned rubberbanding (you start moving, then snap back to your start point, repeatedly), or are having trouble connecting or staying connected to the game, running a pathping can help give some of us an idea what your network conditions are like.

    Windows XP

    • Click on the Start button.
    • Click on RUN

    • Type "CMD" (without the " ") and hit ENTER. This will bring up a command prompt window.
    • Then type the following.
    Code:
    pathping cityofheroes.com > C:\pathping.txt
It'll sit there for about 5 minutes not appearing to do anything, but it's just outputting to a text file (C:\pathping.txt) rather than the console so that it doesn't bugger up the formatting

    Windows Vista/7

    • Click on the Windows button.
    • In the search box type "CMD" (without the " ") and hit ENTER.

In Vista/7 if you don't have administrative permissions, you will need to put the file somewhere OTHER than the root of the C:\ drive or you'll get access errors.

If you want to run with Administrative permissions:

    • Click on the Windows button
    • Click on All Programs
    • Click on Accessories
    • Right-click on Command Prompt and choose "Run as Administrator".
    • You may or may not be asked to enter a username and password.

Step Number 17: Create a followup post with the information in it.

As noted, the pathping we had you do created a text file in the root of your C:\ drive. Open it up in Notepad and paste it into the forums as a separate post.

Also, to help preserve formatting surround the entire pasted section with [CODE] [/CODE] tags. These will help preserve the formatting of the pathping output better than board's plaintext formatting.

Your output will look something like this:

    Code:

Step Number 18: Sit back and wait for help. But be proactive!

Take a look-see at the logs. See if anything weird jumps out at you. Post follow-ups in the thread if something bizzare presents itself that you don't understand.

This will give the technically inclined helpers here a leg up when they try to assist you and should provide you with the absolute minimum of downtime or problem time.

    Addenda:

Unfortunately, 3D applications are not able to automatically recover after this occurs and need to be restarted.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...dware/gg487368
  20. Step Number 6: Paste the output from CoH Helper into a text file.

You want to do this because you have a few more things to grab before you paste this into a forum post. You can also save this file in case you have a crash on the computer and need to come back and post it later.

Step Number 7: Go to the Hijack This site. (Updated as of 04/13/2012: HJT has been Open-Sourced by Trend Micro.)

Step Number 8: Download the Hijack This executable.

If nothing is really wrong with your computer (other than CoH is not working right) you can try getting the installer. But if your computer is acting really freaky, or refusing to run the installer, just get the raw executable.

Step Number 9: Save the file.

Step Number 10: Run the Hijack This Executable.

Step Number 11: Agree to the EULA. (Reading it is optional.)

  21. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit *ahem* retentive about this. But I'm seeing lots of threads where people ask a question with the inevitable "can we see the CoH Helper and Hijack This logs?" followup.

As such, here's a nice little guide to asking for help here on the forums and what you can do to minimize the delay between the initial question and a (hopefully) definitive answer.

Also! I have recorded a quick (22 minute, yeah, apparently I'm as prolific on video as I am in a text editor) walk-through of the procedure and put the video online for people who might be a little squeamish about the process.

    Have a look!

Step Number 1: Go to the CoH Helper Site.

Step Number 2: Click on the link to download it.

Step Number 3: Save the file.

Step Number 4: Run the File

(NOTE: If you are running under Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator")

Step Number 5: Click on the Forum Output button to generate your CoH Helper log.

And I've had LOTG +Recharges come through on merit rolls. I didn't equip them. Because my build is currently in my comfort zone as far as end management is concerned. More would lower my defense values and upset my timing.
