  1. For reference, my original thread.

Okay, never ever thought I'd be saying this. But next week my AT&T DSL connection goes active. HURRAH!

*Yes, I just felt my soul shrivel up a bit.*

Anyhoo, I'm due to get off my Wireless Internet provider next week once the DSL line goes active (as Clear can't proactively schedule an account for termination).

The last 6 months have been something of a love-hate relationship with this connection. When it worked, it worked NICE. Everything was fast, gaming was stable, and all was right with the world. My VOIP phone that I use for work was even semi decent.

However, just under a month after I'd picked up my equipment, I was having massive connection stability issues. The modem was resetting three, four times a day. Where I'd been getting 2-3 green bars, I was getting one (and corresponding "I wish I had dialup" speeds). And even when the modem wasn't resetting or having low signal, I'd be dropping connections. And my VOIP situation was so bad I quite literally had to stop working from home at all (imagine talking to someone and getting every third syllable of every other word).

First they traced it to the fact that I was connecting to a tower 4 miles south of me, rather than the tower 1/4 mile north of me. Well, I AM on the south face of my apartment complex, more or less in the middle of the wall. So I have all that brick and concrete and steel between me ant the closer tower. Even when they could force me onto the closer one, I'd usually drop off by the next morning.

Then they traced it to the original modem and swapped it out. No change.

I've been making monthly calls (simply because dealing with it was aggravating enough that I didn't want to call more). While the techs and sales reps were always unfailingly polite and attempted to be helpful, it never got my problems resolved, even with multiple visits to the nearby tower to check it out.

I'd get a "reset your modem". Which I'd do, and which would clear it up for a little while (an hour or two). After which it was the same story all over again. And I should NOT be having to reboot my modem multiple times a day just to get dependable internet.

Recently it's gotten so bad that I've wound up having to refresh webpages 3-4 times just to get them to load properly. My netflix account for watching video online has been completely unusable.

So, today, after 6 months of biting the bullet, I finally threw in the towel. I called AT&T and ordered a dry pair that should go active next Wednesday or Thursday. As soon as the connection's up and running I'm calling to have Clear shut down my service.

Now, to be fair, Clear has busted their *AHEM* trying to get my problems resolved. Moreover, they HAVE been faithfully documenting every problem. When the sales tech I talked to today found out that I was canceling, she was able to pull up the entirety of my service history. And she even went a step further and waived the early termination fees (Clear is set up like a wireless phone carrier, you sign a 2 year contract, and have a 30-day window in which to cancel normally, after which you pay a portion of your total contract value to get out).

Honestly, were it not for the fact that the connection doesn't meet my day-to-day requirements, I'd have seriously thought about keeping it or converting over to the mobile Internet plan for when I travel (rather than paying donkey-molesting fees for hotel internet).

In-game, most of the time the connection was fine. I was able to handle ship raids, hami raids, Rikti Invasions, and even the anniversary event just fine. But every few days (sometimes multiple times in the same day) I'd have to pull the plug on the router and reset it because I was lagging so hard I'd mapserv.

All in all, Clear was an interesting and conscientious provider with lots of potential. Unfortunately, they were not the provider I needed them to be.

I'd inquired with Comcast to see if there was any movement to install a parallel network into my building so I could head back to them as an Internet provider. The response I got was a lot of mealy-mouthed "I dunno", which is essentially a "no".

    So, dialup or DSL.

    So I pick DSL.

    Okay, dumb question.

Are you actually built this way CURRENTLY (purples and all)? Or are you looking at this as your potential build?

I'm running around on an Inv/SS tank in Praetoria. Outside of the TNN mission, I haven't found anything I can't handle yet with a little careful pacing. OTOH, the TNN mission is all ABOUT careful pacing, regardless of AT.

    Easier still:

    1. Open Notepad (or your favorite raw text editor du jour).
    2. Type in your global
    3. Spellcheck it
    4. Highlight it

    Merits 911!

Welcome to night 2 of Merits 911!

Tonight, 50 more merits burnt! And another 20 million inf!

And what do I have to show tonight?

You received Obliteration: Chance for smashing damage (Recipe).
    You received Celerity: +Stealth (Recipe).
You received Force Feedback : Rech/Endurance (Recipe).
You received Glimpse of the Abyss: Chance for Psionic Damage (Recipe).
You received Mako's Bite: Dam/Rech (Recipe).

I know it's the RNG, but I seem to be really getting some proc-heavy weighting.

The Celerity +Stealth is going to be a pain for me to sell. I have several toons that could use it...

Maybe if I pay myself going market rate....NEVER! NO! NOT "BUY IT NAO PRICES!"

Maybe I'll cut me a discount. Because I like me. And because I have an honest face.

    ...

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry, my internal schizo monologue daemon core-dumped there....

On the flip side (well, the other one), earnings off my first 400 merits are at 170 million net.

    Till tomorrow.

Old game mechanic. Kiting. If you can't immediately kill a group of enemies, kill a few and GET THE HELL OUTTA DODGE until you heal/recover end. Take a few more. Rinse and repeat until done.

That's how I got through the TNN mission. I ran my tank's little hiney off! But I didn't die!

Actually, Smith and Tinker are licensees. Microsoft still owns the licenses. If S&T is actually contracting the work out to an outside firm for production, I don't know about it.

    We'll see.

    Quote:
But they did say that a Crimson Skies game would really interest them. Looks like they own that IP too then.
Again no. The IP for BattleTech and Shadowrun is with Topps. The rights to all electronic games in either of these universes is owned by Microsoft. Crimson Skies is wholly owned by Microsoft.

Currently, AFAIK, the BattleTech rights have been licensed to Smith and Tinker (who are partnering with Piranha Games).

The IP for BattleTech and Shadowrun are currently licensed to Catalyst Game Labs. So game books, novels, t-shirts, patches and paraphenalia are carried through them.

HOWEVER, at the same time, due to a license for "location based entertainment", the rights to the BattleTech Simulator Pods resides with Virtual World Entertainment/Mechjock.com and it's sole owner Nick Smith. They're currently still developing the BattleTech Sim software (which shares common history with the MW4 engine).

Essentially MW4 was supposed to be a PC port of the original Tesla system pod software. And it was supposed to be MW3. Due to timetables and production schedules, Activision (the publisher) jerked MW3 from FASA Interactive and gave it to Zipper Interactive. The code continued to be worked on, and was also back-ported to the pods as the "Firestorm" refresh. It's currently in development by MekTek, the guys who got MechWarrior 4 released for free by Microsoft.

I've been noticing this on Rikti Raids. I die , get rezzed , and while I'm still floating around in the air *WHAM!*, I'm dead . While I'm supposed to be untouchable . No time to bring up shields/armor/heals, nada.

I believe the untouchable mechanic for rezzed players needs to be examined by the devs. The situation is currently an absolute boatload of "not fun" right now.

    Rare? PFFT!

Scrank-lock isn't rare. In fact, it's distressingly common for people who regularly play high-level melee-oriented builds..

Okay devil's advocate moment here. There are times when it's not necessarily that easy or straightforward. Especially when the realization that you're about to hit someone with your 2500 pound pile of metal, plastic and rubber. And the driver was probably at LEAST as scared while it was happening and may have frozen up.

Now, this is not to say the driver should be let off with a slap on the wrists. His insurance should be paying for your son's hospital bills and possibly replacement of the bike. But should you go out of your way to wreck the guy's life for something that may have been accidental?

    Just something to think about.

Incorrect. The Marvel and DC universes were anthropomorphized entities who made the boneheaded assumption that they were (individually) alone in the omniverse and that they encompassed all.

The crossover event triggered their awareness of one another and set them wrangling. The problem became so bad that the combat between each universe's heroes was set up as a proxy, since the actual clash of the two "brothers" would have destroyed vast tracts of each universe.

In the end, one more or less lost, but in an effort to save both, the Spectre (DC) and the Living Tribunal (Marvel) merged the two universes into an Amalgam universe.

It eventually destabilized and broke back into the constituent brothers. However, at the end, the two "brothers" came to a reconciliation after several heroes made their way to their presence and managed to get them to actually look at one another (as in their entire timelines).

So you need to get some brain bleach for that dirty mind.

    Merits 911!

Thanks for taking a look into my little thread.

Keep in mind that I'm in no way hurting for inf. Especially now that inf is stateless and easily portable.

This is just a little random comparison of earnings via Reward Merits and Alignment Merits. We'll see if the 10 merits and 20 million inf premium for 3 more recipes was financially justified.
  17. Hyperstrike

    Merits 911!

Something sold. So I had the inf to go drop on some hero merits for comparison. Won't craft them this evening. But here's my first hero merit on this toon.

  18. Hyperstrike

    Merits 911!

Okay, I finally broke down and have started cashing in merits on my controller.

This his Schwarzschild, Grav/Kin Controller Supreme! Say hi!

Now, as we can see, Schwarzschild has a plethora of merits. <El Guapo>Do joo know what a plethora is? </El Guapo>

Oh wait, you can't SEE the plethora! Here we go!

    Yep. 911 merits.

As you can also see, he's relatively cash poor. So cashing in for Hero Merits isn't economically viable yet. Yes, I have several billion floating around that I could twink with. But I don't wanna! I want this to be ed-joo-kay-shun-all!

So, for now, we're going to work on a nest egg and spend out a few merits here for regular merit rolls.

    Here we go! UUUUUNNNGGGGGHHHHH!

As you can see. Not a GREAT haul, but not shabby.

    2 Devastation Acc/Dam/Recharge
    2 Oblit Procs
    2 Numina End/Heal/Rech
    Zinger Rech/Acc
    Lockdown +2 Mag
    2 Devastation Procs
    2 Numina Recovery/Regen
    Malaise Proc
    Devastation Dam/Rech
    Mako Proc
    Touch of the Nictus Proc
    Ghost Widow Proc
    Scirocco Dam/Acc/End
    Posi Proc
    Perf Shifter Rech/Acc

Basically I weeded out a few that simply weren't worth the inf to craft (even though I have the components in my base). Having them require rare salvage with 70+ on the market, no bids, and going for less than a million? Uh. VENDOR!

My market slots are now full and I've exhausted my inf supply in crafting and listing fees. We'll sit back from stage 1 and see how well it pays off.

Then we'll go after stage 2.

  20. Hellacious run for me tonight!

Tried running an All tank MoITF.
Were it not for some REALLY bad luck right at the end it woulda been a done deal!

As it was, a single death (though a couple close calls) for the entire TF! And smooth as silk! We didn't "speed". We fought our way to every objective.

And "Lag Hill"? MUCH better lately. MUCH better! I had a couple rubberbands and that's about it. And I get a few of those a night anyhow!

Admittedly, I was a bit timid tonight. My Stone/Dark's active build was less than 3 hours old. So I'd had zero time to break it in. Plus I was playing essentially a PUG (not in the BAD sense mind you, the entire group was EXCELLENT!) Hence we were running +0. Just so I could feel everything out.

Barring the one bad luck death, I think we really set the diff too low.

    • Obsidian Seraph (Me)
    • Kael Fireheart
    • ZenX.
    • Destiny Overdrive
    • Nito Brennen
    • Shirayukihime
    • Equiknocks
    • Neon Apocalypse

All in all, a totally kick-*** team!
MVP has to go to Shirayukihime though. Crazy Ice Tank was our enemy herd-master for the entire run. Left me crying because I couldn't get no aggro! While our run was no speed record, it probably would have taken twice as long were it not for Shira's efforts.

I look forward to teaming with you guys again the next Tanker Tuesday or, barring that, the next time I'm on Virtue!

  23. Okay, Freedom Fire/Rads are mostly known for running TFs during our Monday night meetups.

This wasn't really a TF, but I'm labeling this one "Taskforce OMFGWTFBBQ!"

And this screenie shows exactly how wild it was.

Okay, what's so wild about this?

    Two things.

    1. Before the start of the raid, we did a bit of street sweeping. So, going into the raid, I was the proud possessor of about 60-80 merits.
    2. We spent the majority of the time in the bowl both upright AND at recharge cap. I spent most of the raid cackling madly. Normally, on an 8-man team, if you have Hasten, you cap out at roughly 300% recharge. However, we had a few more speed boosters in the other teams and were able to keep things nicely maxed.
We'd picked up a couple more people to fill the team, however their computers didn't seem to be able to handle the raid. So they dropped and we spent most of our time with 6. Not that it mattered. The center of the bowl was just one gigantic 1000% heal aura. A couple times concerted attacks of magi had us waggling wildly between 100% and 1 health but we hung in there most of the time.

I'd like to thank Luna De Nocturne and Turgenv for organizing and running the raid. A damn fine piece of work!

Hopefully we can come in again some time and speed you guys up a bit.
