Quote:No, like it's vertical counterpart (colloquially known as "falling"), it's that sudden deceleration to a stop (against both contiguous (pavement, walls, etc) and discontiguous (steering column, fire hydrant, etc) surfaces), and all the trauma that implies, that usually does you in.Also: it's not speeding that kills, it's the people driving radically different speeds than each other.
Although a nice, LONG unprotected skid in something like jeans (regular ones, not the motorcycle-armor variants) on asphalt or concrete is usually enough to make you WISH you were dead and may still kill you though secondary effects (infection). -
And once you recover, you probably want to look at Acronis Disk Director.

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...overy_softwareWell, my previous attempt at disk maintenance ended poorly. That is to say, the clean and simple extension of the second partition turned out to be cleaner to expected - it cleaned out all partition info from the physical drive. A fresh OS reinstall later, I'm wondering if there's any tools you'd recommend to try and recover the data from the erased partition. It's been toward the back of the disk so there's a plausible chance most of it hasn't been overwritten yet, but given my critical miss with the first tool I've googled {eff you, partition wizard} I figured I'd better ask for previous experiences this time around.
You probably want to look at R-Undelete.
There's also Active@ Partition Recovery software.
Just Google "Recover files from deleted partitions". -
Quote:They better get someone good to voice Smaug. He's my favorite character in that whole book.
What? Didn't you hear? They're getting Trey Parker to do the voice. It's going to sound something like this. -
Growing up in Chicago, I thought I'd seen it all. I mean literally, there's places here that, if you don't have a car, you simply can't get there (no, walking is NOT an option when you're talking 20+ miles from the nearest public transportation stop).
So a few years back, I'm visiting my parents in Vegas and taking my mom out to lunch. As I'm getting on the express way, she looks over at me and nearly screams "FLOOR IT!"
Now this is the woman who taught me how to drive, completely white-faced, screaming in terror and with both feet firmly braced up on the dashboard. So I just about blew my eyes out onto the passenger side window wondering who this crazy lady was. Thing is, out there, if you're not doing 5+ getting on the expressway, there are idiots who'll literally plow right into you at 90+ mph
The worst I ever saw was Seoul South Korea though. Gridlock there is a frigging nightmare. 3 lanes of traffic, 5 cars across (oh, yeah, the pavement markers and lane dividers, they're sorta treated as suggestions).
Or the one time coming back from dropping a patient off at 121 MedEvac (one of the side-effects of serving there is I understand roughly 90% of the military and place references in M.A.S.H. now) and we pass up one of the post shuttle buses in our Humvee Ambulance and are waving to a buddy who decided to take the bus instead of riding back with us.
A couple minutes later and FWOOM! The shuttle bus comes screaming past us (and we're doing 80!
). Our buddy is smirking at us and waving back as the bus pulls out ahead of us.
Then we see a set of lights come on down the road and the bus pulls over...

Hola! Me llamo Hyperstrike.
And that's about the extent of my knowledge of polite Spanish.
I'm that snarky, overgrown ******* of a tank you see all over the place. -

If you get to The Hill and you see nobody there, drop a /t @Hyperstrike1. If I'm not on for some strange reason, you'll see that. If I am, as soon as we've gotten out of a combat situation I'll respond. -
We were on the hill until about quarter after that we picked up a few stray friends-we-just-met and proceeded through a few more AV smackdowns.
Battle Maiden? Bye Bye!
Black Swan? Beat down.
Malaise? Bah! Poor excuse for a controller!
Mother Mayhem? Mwahahahaha!
Diabolique? Done to a well charred crisp.
Infernal? Is he back already? Okay. COOK HIM AGAIN!
Was getting ready to head in against Dominatrix and Marauder when I got a call from work (where I'm posting from now).
As usual, levels fell from the sky like rain. And Vortex Core is now Level 50!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the little people who helped make this happen!
Imp 1! Take a bow!
Imp 2! Take a bow!
Imp 3! HEY! Leave get out from underneath that Master Illusionist's dress!
NASTY!
On top of that, I'd like to thank all the people over the course of the last five months who've teamed with me to help get there. It's been a hellacious ride!

This is how I wound up with my non-test/beta DS/Dark mastermind. Indiana Lovecraft.

Everything Starcloud said. Plus you're running the 260.89 beta drivers. If, after shutting down that other stuff, you're still unstable, try rolling back to the 258.96 WHQL drivers.

Quote:I dunno if this has been mentioned previously, however it is kinda big news in the Dr. Who Universe.
Honestly, this should NOT have become an issue now. This should have been put off until his "final" regeneration. Or at least been dealt with in an epic manner. They've basically just pooh-pooh'ed several decades worth of canon and left it at that.
Turning him into an immortal now kinda shaves off a LOT of the pathos and impact of death in the Doctor Who continuum.
He's a very British Kenny.

"Oh my! He killed the Doctor!"
"YOU BAD PERSON!" (Pre-watershed, remember?)
And then to ANNOUNCE it ahead of time? And not even in the main canon show?
Why not say "Stop watching now!" already?
Granted, the whole "13 regenerations" thing kinda went out the window after:
- Learning The Master could "steal" regenerations.
- The Time Lords promised The Master a new SET of regenerations.
Le-sigh. -
Quote:Essentially, when CoH crashes cleanly (yeah, I know, oxymoron), it's supposed to push the report over the internet to Paragon.Been wondering for years, what do you do with the CityOfHeroes.zip crash reports?
I've rarely crashed in the past, so it's never given me much thought. Past two weeks or so, since one of the patches? Been crashing like mad. Is there a particular email address to send them, or are you supposed to open a new support ticket or something?

However, it doesn't always do this. If that happens, it has you save a zip of the crash report to send later.
Strangely enough, I've noticed that since I've got back on AT&T DSL, it's stopped working again. Possibly because it's trying to e-mail it and AT&T blocks access to SMTP on default ports.
Never had the problem on Comcast, never had the problem on Clear. -

Quote:Agreed. And I find that I get more mileage out just three-slotting Rage for recharge, as I generally have sufficient accuracy built in.The +Level enemies get a +ToHit if they are 6(!!!) levels above you. That's a pretty rare threat.
While this advice is very true, and you should keep it in mind especially when soft capping squishier AT's defense, I wouldn't worry about it here. Why's that? Mid's is only set to 1 mob with Invincibility. Three is the lowest I would consider that, since that's how many minions you will see soloing at /x1, and only fighting one or two enemies, your resists would cover you anyway. The most notable exception here would be an AV using psi-typed attacks. That's a scenario that you may end up relying on inspirations and teammates in anyway, since that's the nature of /Invulnerability.
With Invincibility at 7 or 8 (not at all unreasonable while teaming) S/L is at 57%. That's enough of a buffer, IMO, ymmv, etc. -
Quote:A couple things to remember, some enemies have +ToHit buffs, bosses, AVs, and +Level enemies have higher mods to hit you. Plus you have enemies tossing out defense debuffs too.Question, though... why the Rectified Recticles in Rage? We seem to be over establishment on S/L defense (at least according to Mids, were at 48%). Isn't there something else that could be done with those 4 slots? Or maybe drop it to three and pick up another somewhere else?
Additional defense over and above the soft-cap helps offset this and act as a "buffer zone" against defense debuffs to help stave off cascading defense failures (one hits, drops your defense, another barely hits because of the lowered defense and hits further, then a bunch more hit and catastrophically floor your defenses).

Quote:I did NOT say "the game is already balanced".It was definitely "thrown" out there. You basically offered "the game is already balanced" as a some kind of justification for why the Devs shouldn't consider adding an optional QoL system.
I talked about the concept of game balance in relation to the variance in power levels between PCs and NPCs like Statesman and even genre staples like Superman.
BIG difference.
My problem is, I don't think the game really has the scope to encompass more than some crude stats-mod type disadvantages. I could be wrong, but at this point, I don't think I am (big surprise eh?)Quote:Obviously to "sell" a system of Disads to the average MMO player the Devs of this game would indeed likely have to make some kind of advantage/disadvantage system out of it. Frankly I consider it sad that the Devs would have to "trick" people into trying this with a candy coating like that. I'm willing to challenge myself by trying to play this game even with Disads because it would be cool to actually play with ALL the aspects of the comic book universe, not just the ones that make typical MMO players happy. YMMV.
How exactly do you quantify something like "Dependent" or "Berserker" type disadvantages?Quote:P.S. As you point out we ALREADY have a system in place that lets us take ourselves down a peg (or two...or four) with the mission difficulty settings. All I'm really suggesting is an optional expansion to that. From that point of view it really doesn't seem like it'd be that "tough a sell" to the Devs since they've already come part way there on their own. *shrugs*
Something like "hunted" I could see. Have a random enemy ambush during missions or in-zone, etc. But a bunch of them are not really quantifiable, which is going to make adding a working SYSTEM in the game difficult at best. -
You get the "Old Geezer" badge and a new temp power "Bottle Of Geritol". Once every 24 hours it gives you the ability to force a group of enemies (up to 10) to stop and do the puke animation while broadcasting "OH MY GOD! He/She smells like mothballs!"

Quote:No. Actually I didn't. I merely threw it out there because you were dancing around the point without addressing it directly.Well you did at least jump to the conclusion that I thought there was an issue of game balance in question here and/or that I didn't consider it.
Thing is, most of these "disadvantage" systems are actually advantage/disadvantage systems. Semi-points-based where you can use disadvantages to rack up "credit" towards other advantages. A lot of players would seriously question a self-gimping system with no benefit other than simple RP function. Heck, it'd even be a tough sell to the devs. Especially with the difficulty modifiers already in place to take your down a peg (or two...or four).Quote:My suggestion is more of a "QoL improvement" idea for people who would either like a new optional tool for RP expression or would like the extra challenge of playing this relatively easy game by self-gimping themselves. -
Quote:No. Actually I didn't. What I was trying to convey was that the game gives a much narrower scope to the concept due to the demands of game balance (or at least the devs' perception of it).But clearly you got hung up on the use of Superman as an example of what I what trying to explain in terms of Disads.
If you choose to think I'm getting hung up on the concept of superman vs CoH heroes, you've missed my point. -
Unfortunately I'm at work at that time. Were this about 2 to 2-1/2 hours later, I could probably make it.

What I'd like to see.
Have the bar chopped at 85% or so, just so it looks "full" and people stop griping about it.
But when you activate something like Frenzy, you get a little animation of the Fury bar sliding left for a second (as if gathering itself), then blasting out the right-hand side into an explosion/throbber accompanied by the sound of something breaking/exploding.
This lets the player know their toon has finally gone over the top/lost his marbles/flipped out/etc (see "It goes to 11" or "Over NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND!"). -
