If it isn't level oriented then what keeps the 50's staying? Constant re-rolls? I understand, and actually like, the idea of content as you level, but if there isn't enough at the end-game then I wouldn't think the game would be worth it...
[/ QUOTE ]
It's important to also note that if you are level 50, you haven't out-leveled the rest of the game's content...you've unlocked it. You can "go back in time" and do any Story Arc missions you missed (or want to play again) at will. The same is true of all the Task Forces/Strike Forces/Trials from 1-45.
Also, just because you aren't leveling anymore doesn't mean you aren't advancing. Your build and playstyle are literally just as customizable as your appearance in this game. I've been playing the same 'max level' character for years, but I'm still tweaking and altering the build with Invention Set Bonuses and such. On my Brute I have a "Fast" build that does extra damage in its attacks while having those attacks up faster and I've got a "Hard" build that's almost untouchable by the most common damage types in the game. And neither build is completely finished (600 million for a Gladiator's Armor +3% Def? I'll wait till the fad wears off thank you). Furthermore Castle (the Powers Developer) and Company keep adding new Sets every few issues which open up new options and tweaking possibilities.
Despite not gaining xp, I've watched my Brute get stronger and stronger and stronger, in exactly the ways I want it to.
Take your time with the game. Since everything is so customizable and variable, it can take a while to absorb it all. Learn as you go through the levels, get a feel for each new power as it comes to you and find the non-obvious quirks to its use. Don't PL, not only are you just rushing past the game, you will pick up some bad habits that way (and not learn some good ones) that will be obvious to others who play with you. From a player's behavior and their badge-listing, other players on a team can tell when someone's been PLed. They may not say anything, but they'll be less likely to seek out your company again. -

Also, to aperture:
Don't get sucked into the MA-farm black hole. It may be easier to find teams there, but you miss out on a lot of the story and content of the game. The MA can be fun, and I suggest going there on occasion, just don't spend your entire time there...you miss out on a lot if you do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Underscoring this. Some of the AE teams just want members to pad-out their enemy count, and then expect little from teammates. Playing that way will have you pick up a lot of bad habits that trip you up in any kind of serious situation while advancing quickly. -

I am currently using a trial account. I was wondering if to get the free 30 days that comes with a new game, do you need to start a brand new account, or if you are on a trial account will it give you 30 free days to that account?
[/ QUOTE ]
First off, welcome to the game and to the forums!
If you Upgrade your trial account with the full serial code that you bought, then the free 30 days will be applied to the trial account. You don't need to make a new one.
[/ QUOTE ]
To take this one step further - except for the 30-day "GAME CARD" which you can use to start a new (or upgrade an existing) account (usually 20 bucks USD), you can apply any "full retail" code to your account as long as it has not been applied before - and each time you do so will add 30days.
Also, I recommend getting the GvE edition if you haven't bought a full retail yet - the jump jet power you get is VERY useful.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can also get any other edition of the game and buy the special items that come with GvE separately for $10. Read up on what comes with which edition. -

The net result is a buff, yes.
Previously a broadsword user would swing the sword, stand there for a moment doing nothing, swing the sword again...hang around whistling for a bit...swing once more... do his taxes...finally attack again...
The pauses have been removed.
Drawing the sword the first time takes a moment, but after that everything is now much faster.

Thank you very much! That very thing was the reason I had trouble getting into Katana when I really tried. At the moment I'm still trying out the Widow VEAT, so I haven't really tested things with my Stalkers.
I appreciate the answers, and now I have much to think about.
[/ QUOTE ]
ZOMG...do you know about the Stalker buffs too? +Max HP, +Melee Damage Scale, AS doesn't break hide if it misses, AS causes an AoE Fear/-Tohit debuff if the target isn't killed instantly, up to 30% chance for random Criticals without mezz on the target, Hide doesn't cost any End, and I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff.... -
[ QUOTE ]
I was clearing the wall in Cimerora last night, and a player came up and watched me.... from the other side of the barrier. I finished the spawn and stood there, at the barrior, facing him at the other side. He had his little demon pet following him, and he superjumped away, drawing aggro from the mobs inside there.
I know the story for the zone can't have heroes just running over there defeating everyone since the ITF and another mission or two has you "entering" as the mission, but man, that'd be loads of fun! There's some huge spawns there where you have 30 to 50 soldiers in formation. I'd love to set my blaster loose on them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe, maybe not. I was over there during the Beta on Test when you could just walk around the map and fall through it. Once you take a bite of one of those (100 man) spawns you have to keep chewing until you swallow it or it chokes you. You get the attention of more than an aggro-cap's mobs and so you get a replacement enemy as soon as you down one. Also they sometimes take one shot at you and then lose interest; so you never have more than the aggro cap at any moment, but over short time periods can receive fire from more than that number.
I actually managed to do it with an SS/Inv Brute and a DM/SR Brute. Then I watched a Stone/ Tank DIAF trying to do the same thing O_O. -
To the point answer: all of the Weapon based sets, from War Mace to Archery, have been buffed to one degree or another. Rather than generally lagging other sets, some of them are flat out awesome now (ex: Katana) and none of them suck (including Archery and War Mace).

2. Where did the truck floating outside Pocket D come from and does it have any significance?
[/ QUOTE ]If you look at Pocket-D from beneath, there are girders and broken concrete. The structure was ripped out of a real-world location when moved to the shadowshard. I presume the truck was nearby when that happened.
How *does* one claim insurance on that? -

Why is Mercy Island half destroyed? It has never been explained that Arachnos had to attack it, but its massive level of devistation implies one hell of a bombardment.
[/ QUOTE ]
Everything outside the Mercy Wall was abandoned to the Snakes. -
[ QUOTE ]
Of course, it doesn't exactly help my opinion of Longbow that they're skulking around Mercy and got Agincourt over in Nerva when they've proven incapable of protecting the Paragon City Hall parking lot.
[/ QUOTE ]
After using larcenous means to fund mercenaries of questionable legal standing, consorting with terrorists, having mafia ties, recruiting dangerous zealots and calling them heroes, serial corruption, being the origin of the Nullifier Gun that Malta uses to kill real heroes, establishing a secret listening-post staffed by foreign nationals with intent to listen in on all private communications in Paragon they deem "suspicious", and being led by an individual responsible for the devastation of a community that formed the organization partly out of intent to make her mother angry, I don't think this will hurt their reputation much... -

1) Where IS the Rogue Isles island chain? In some places it says 50 miles offshore of Rhode Island, in one other place 500. (Which frankly makes more sense. Having another country be west of Long Island makes less sense than having one north of Bermuda.)
[/ QUOTE ]
The 50 miles one makes more sense. Firstly, there are no tropical trees in the Rogue Isles save for the Spongebob easter egg in the southwest corner of Cap au Diable. Secondly, the French colonists from the Cult of Enos ran into the Etoiles while heading for North America. Thirdly, the land of the Mu Nation was raised from the ocean floor by Hequat nearby to Ouranbega.
[ QUOTE ]
2) What IS the legal status of the Nerva Archipelago? British Commonwealth? American protectorate? Completely independent NATO member? It's got a French name (the Etoiles), when did it pass out of French hands?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nerva Archipeligo is disputed territory currently under oversight by the UN; they are not officially part of the nation controlled by Lord Recluse. -
[ QUOTE ]
I thought the in-game arcs were rather implicit in suggesting heavy-handedly that it was Nemesis. After all, Nemesis supplies the family with it, who sells it to the Trolls. The Trolls spread it around, have visions of other dimensions and get Dr. Webb involved. Nemesis steals Dr. Webb's technology, prepares the Rikti pre-invasion, escapes into another dimension, and let's the Shard Expeditionary group colonize the Shadow Shard, which he eventually colonizes with his bases. Of course, Dr. Webb would be captured and tortured by the Reichsmann, so again--almost everything in-game is from either the Well of Furies or is a Nemesis Plot.
Whee!

4) Of all the zones in the Rogue Isles that Longbow could have established in a base in, what the hell possessed them to choose NERVA?! Grandville, I could see... Cap, I could see... but NERVA?!
[/ QUOTE ]
Nerva Archipeligo technically isn't part of the sovereign Etoiles. They're disputed territory and "overseen" by the UN right now. So Longbow has a leg to stand on when they set up shop there, as opposed to secret bases and submarine pens around the Rogue Isles-proper. -

2) In Arachnos, do the Arbiters (as a position) pre-date Recluse's rise to power? If so, do they consider themselves truly answerable to him (as their duty is to serve Arachnos itself). I mean sure they do as matter of course, but if they felt he was a threat to Arachnos itself...
[/ QUOTE ]
The Arbiter's were granted their authority by Recluse relatively recently and answer only to him. -

So ...
A number of months ago, there was a series of red-name posts about the forums getting brand spanking new software since the current software has, errrr, issues.
Things had progressed to a point where, IIRC, the new software was used for I13's closed beta.
But I havena' heard a word since. Has that project been shelved?
[/ QUOTE ]
The forums in i13 Closed sucked rocks and the issues, at least that I've seen, have vanished from this forum since they did the PM-storage purge. -
[ QUOTE ]
They added a "feature" to the O-portal right after it went Live that makes it take a backseat to objects or contacts to prevent the issue you are talking about. That has nothing to do with a level restriction.
[/ QUOTE ]
The level restriction was implemented during the Beta for the reason I stated. The feature you are talking about was added later to prevent higher-level characters from being blocked off from contacts. But the level restriction was created so that the O-portal could never be a "trap" for new, unaware players. -
[ QUOTE ]
I completed the Marshall Brass Arc Aeon through the ages and became Entrusted with the Secret on my level 19 Mastermind. When I go to use it, I find that the O-zone is limited to Level 25.
I was just wondering whether anyone knew what the design decisions were which led to this situation. It's not a big thing, but is counter-intuitive.
Any ideas?
[/ QUOTE ]
It came from player-created tests of Griefability during i11 Beta.
When first implemented, anyone of any level could click on an O-portal and go to Ouroboros. Trying to think like the lowest common denominator, several people tried dropping O-portals on Miss Libery in Atlas Park.
So a new player pops out of Tutorial, goes to the Trainer as they have been instructed to, "clicks" on them, and is suddenly in a strange place with no clue what they are supposed to do now.
The "you must be over lv25" restriction was implemented directly to prevent things like this. -
[ QUOTE ]
They're much less desired on teams, and it's a slower, calmer, playstyle.
[/ QUOTE ]
What teams are you playing with? I don't play Stalkers at all, it's not my playstyle. But I have a tremendous amount of respect for them since the refurbishment Castle & Co. did last year.
As to the original poster, what do you most enjoy in combat? Do you like being the center of attention? Causing chaos? Destruction with AoEs? Huge, hard-hitting single-target attacks? Do you prefer to have a few smaller attacks with one or two "Big Guns" or do you prefer an arsenal of medium attacks that give you a steady damage output? Do you prefer a steady level of protection or a lower basal-protection with much higher peaks? Fire-and-forget armor or one with lots of click powers? Do you most have a taste for Defense, Resistance, Heals, or Debuffs as mitigation?
In short, how do you like to play? -
[ QUOTE ]
Is this legit? Should I do this from an ethical standpoint? I also thought that this might be a way to get through the content without using Ouroboros? Does anyone do this, or does everyone make their money from selling and Wentworths's?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can turn off xp if you feel like it; that's what it's there for.
However, do note that turning off xp will not double Inf rewards as if you were exemplar/malefactored. For that you actually need to be exemplar/malefactored. You can achieve this solo via Ouroboros. -
[ QUOTE ]
I am just curious if they have some set formula in terms of overall changes to the game that they try to follow. For instance, Power Proliferation, New Content, AE, Going Rogue, New Powers. These must have been planned in advance, and so did they follow a formula per se?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's determined by what they think will be most attractive for their business and what's done-when-it's-done.
Powerset Proliferation specifically has been mentioned as a "stretch goal" in the past. That is, if you're done with everything else in the issue and have some time before everything else is ironed out for release, then it goes in. -
[ QUOTE ]
1) I think they last 30 seconds each. I could be wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's 60 seconds. Only thing that lasts 30 seconds is a small Breakfree. (Mediums lasting 60 sec and large Breakfrees lasting 90.) -
[ QUOTE ]
Also, it's helpful to know that to get Hasten perma, you actually have to have more +recharge set bonuses than Hasten itself gives. It's important to keep things in perspective: you'll already have perma-Hasten, and you'll never actually have to take Hasten itself.
Having said that, as you have seen, people do it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well yeah. 3 minutes on, 2 minutes off for Unstoppable and Knockout Blow every 7 seconds is great

[ QUOTE ]
Aha, there you go. You're in the Hollows. Hazard zones (like the Hollows) are designed to be played with teams. If you are soloing this is not where you want to be.
[/ QUOTE ]
This has largely changed since War Witch's Hollows revamp, and it was never true for the instanced missions in the Hollows. You can play there solo should you wish to. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well it said that i was at heroic level. Thing is that in the missions some of them are just too hard.
Examples: One mission, taken from the troll (cant remember his name) has me going down into a cavern to take out some Igneous. There is tons of them, and even though they are about the same level or a level higher than me, there is so many of them that I go down rather quickly, even when I try to blast from a distance.
Another mission that i have is one where i have to beat Caliper and his guards. I go down there, and get my butt handed to me on a silver platter, for the same reason.
Add in the fact that i'm just starting and so my character is most likely not up to snuff ha, and i'm getting slightly frustrated.
should i just load up on respites and try just luring them out one by one?
[/ QUOTE ]
Healing inspirations will keep you on your feet for a few more seconds, but won't change the situation that got you so hurt in the first place. You can get more mileage out of Purple inspirations as a Blaster. Just one can have a noticeable difference in your survival rate, but if you take 4 small Purple inspirations at the same time you become essentially unhittable for 60 seconds.
Also, are you missing a lot? Click open the Powers tab on top of your power tray. Then click Combat Attributes at the very top of that tab. Now click open Base and scroll down to Last Hit Chance. Right click on that and select Monitor Last Hit Chance.
That will put up a tiny window for the Last Hit Chance stat. The Last Hit Chance is your total, after all modifiers, probability of striking the last thing you swung at. This number is bounded at 5% as a floor and 95% as a ceiling. It's entirely reasonable for your character to be swinging at 95% consistently. If you are regularly getting less than that, slot some more Accuracy. Also, if you go up against a Boss and that window suddenly says 30%, you know that discretion is probably the better course of action than staying.
Do note that probability of hitting scales with level, so when you test this do it against the same level of target as you normally intend to fight.
I hope this helps and Welcome to the Game.
