Taunt ( Except for the actual taunt powers ) doesn't override fleeing in my experience. The taunt powers only override it in cases where any attack landing would cause the runner to stop.
[/ QUOTE ]
Eh...
I don't know, I've had things stop running when my Brute hits them that didn't stop running away when my Corruptor, Dominator, or Stalker did.
I'd imagine it would work the same way with Scrappers, and I know for a fact that the AE mobs I was fighting last night on my Fire/Fire Scrapper had an annoying tendency to run even with Blazing Aura on (I spent a fair amount of time chasing runners), although I haven't run a Brute through that particular arc to see if they'd behave identically.
[/ QUOTE ]
Playing a Brute and then playing a Scrapper I'd have to say the Scrapper has to deal with runners more. The enemy AI deciding to run happens at the same rate, but if the Brute lands a hit on them they tend to stop; whereas the Scrapper may land another blow but they just keep going until defeated.
I've also had experience killing large groups of Carnies in Fortune's Wheel that bears this out. Pre-IOs, the end-drain was fairly painful from all the death-AoEs. To limit Endurance burn I kept Invincibility turned off. Since I was fighting large groups of even-con minions, they tended to be defeated very rapidly. This would often result in one or two of them "running" when several of their peers had been downed in a few seconds. Chasing them all got tedious. I began running Invincibility again and the running problem vanished completely (but I kept running out of End again).

I've been having network issues for a while now. I have no problem with download speed, but the game itself has severe rubberbanding issues. I can't get any help from my ISP because they insist that nothing is wrong with anything.
Can any one suggest tools by which I can measure the gaming performance of my network connection?
[/ QUOTE ]
It probably would be better to ask in the Technical Issues & Bugs section. Be sure to read the "common issues and solutions" sticky before posting. -

Check out the guides from various ebil marketeers on how to make millions while you sleep.
Simple tip: Put up bids for common IO or generally unpopular recipes or SOs or salvage at half or under their vendor price. If you buy any, dump them at a vendor for at least 100% profit. Your choice of bids didn't buy anything? Withdraw the bid from the market for no penalty.
No risk, other than ties up your influence for a while. And it works while you're offline.
Running task forces can easily net millions in influence, plus merits, plus salvage, plus recipes, plus goodwill from other players as a competent teammate. Do a level 50 task force and you could get a purple drop anyways.
And if you have fun doing it, it's not a grind. So don't grind! Have fun!
[/ QUOTE ]
If you fully familiarize yourself with the Market, you can make tens of millions per day with 15 minutes of management at the consignment house and spend the rest of your evening playing. Eventually your problem will be what to do with all the cash. I've started spending absurd amounts on tiny little bonuses just to have something productive to do with it.
If you're going to be messing with IOs, you also need Mids Hero Designer. It will help you get a handle on what your options are for various Set Bonuses. You actually don't "need" Purples for an excellent build; I have one without any Purples planned for it because those Set Bonuses would result in a net decrease in overall ability versus some regular Sets. -

Nor does it line up with City of Data's entry on Fury.
[/ QUOTE ]The power Fury does nothing. Check the actual attacks.
[/ QUOTE ]
*Throws hands in the air* I guess I just photoshopped a screenshot showing 85%+ Fury with zero possibility of enemy attacks contributing. That character has no +Dam Set Bonuses, yet Fury's bonus does not top-out at 140%, nor anywhere near there.

[ QUOTE ]
Brutes do not have to "hold aggro for a team" in order to have 70%+ Fury.
[/ QUOTE ]You don't need a taunt aura to hold aggro... or even taunt.
[/ QUOTE ]
If your assertion was correct then a pair of Brutes where one had an aura and the other didn't would see the aura-less one unable to keep its damage up. Again, this doesn't show up in practice.
Perhaps there's a reason your 'fact' is 'little known'. -

Personally, I'd really take either. If I had to choose, I'd take one brute (maybe two), then Scrappers after that (and screw the tanks!).
The reasoning for that is that Brute's depend on Fury for good damage output (REALLY good damage output...), and holding aggro is the best way to build Fury... having too many Brutes mean they'll just be cutting into each other's Fury. So if you go with one (maybe two) Brutes, and then some Scrappers, you should have the best of both worlds, since you can get one/two Brutes at nearly max Fury, and then the Scrappers can enjoy their Scrapperlock without having to worry about the rest of the team... 'cause that's the Brute's job!
[/ QUOTE ]
Enemy fire contributes less to generation and maintenance of Fury than the Brute's own attacks. An initial volley will help boost it quickly if it's empty, but then the Brute's own actions take over. With a decent build, Fury is just there for you; it's not dependent on "holding aggro" for a team.
[/ QUOTE ]Little known fact: Attacks don't generator Fury over 70%. That's something people don't know and don't realize. Attacks check to see your Fury level, and when it's over 70%, they won't contribute to it.
Before 70%, both are useful and helpful... but to get over 70%, you have to have aggro (read: people trying to attack you).
[/ QUOTE ]
Really <.<?
What you said didn't make any sense with several years of play, so I popped into RWZ to do a quick test. What you said above for Fury generation isn't correct in actual practice. Nor does it line up with City of Data's entry on Fury. There is no cut-off where player-attacks no longer count for Fury.
Also note that /Inv isn't considered a secondary that "limits your damage" in the early game compared to /Fire, /Dark, or /Will despite the fact that it has no Taunt Aura until lv28. Nor will pairing an /Inv with one of the above Secondaries on a team mean that the /Inv is doomed to underperform the other Brute because it can "hold aggro" and the /Inv can't.
Brutes do not have to "hold aggro for a team" in order to have 70%+ Fury. -

*About 20 people /b something like that and no one could or would explain it, and even a few replied "it's a bubble farm."
[/ QUOTE ]
A Bubble Farm was an AE mission with under-leveled Mending Mitochondria. They didn't have any of their attacks; just a single-target heal and gave large xp rewards. People would make entire maps of them.
I say "was", "didn't", and "would" because Mending Mitochondria got yanked out of AE by this morning's patch.

But then again, since Earth is usually depicted as being unmovable and strong, would a Stone Armor/Nrg Melee/Stone Tanker be better. (this too, would make sense thematically, since he has a brute version of himself that is Nrg/Elec, so he's already figured a way to make his Energy Blast gauntlets into Energy Melee attacks. And he is becoming versed in melee combat.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Stone Armor takes a lot of patience to play; more than I have at least. -
I guess I know what I'm having for dinner tomorrow night.
Just so's you know, I'm manually archiving this thread. Keep 'em coming. -

So I was fighting some Mitos in The Hive today on my level 47 Martial Arts / Super Reflexes Scrapper and thought...
"These look like eggs!"
I became very hungry. I opened up my refrigerator only to find that my eggs were frozen from my freezer! There seems to be a hole or something. I'm going to the grocery store at 10:15 PM to get some unfrozen eggs.
What do you like in your scrambled eggs? Diced peppers? Ketchup? Onions? Any suggestions would be nice.
Should I just skip the idea of scrambled eggs and make an omelet?
Replies, yes please.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you feel like going Mexican, add cheddar cheese to your eggs, cook them, and remove them from the pan. Then put flour tortillas into the pan (EDIT: one at a time) and heat them until brown-but-not-crispy on both sides.
If you want to go the more traditional route, I reccomend tomatoes, peppers, and cheese. -

I'm not entirely sure which archetype I'm going to make into my main, but I do know I really love the option of solo play (which CoH understandably doesn't appear to cater to) for my first main character, which, from what I've gathered means a scrapper of some sort. I'm still wrapping my head around optimal slotting and such, and would -love- to use some build guides (those generated by Mid's and the like may as well be written in binary) as a jumping off point - but I'd hate to start a character built around a strategy that isn't viable because of a change or twelve.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, you can solo with just about any Archetype/powerset combination in CoX. Some of them will do so slower, but it's possible to do it. Scrappers tend to be the most "self-sufficient" on Hero side; Brutes the most on Villain side. But "squishy", low-damage Defenders have been known to solo Arch Villains that are geared for a team to take down. You have "Superpowers" in this game, and that means if you have the experience and the build for it, you can reach some very impressive levels of performance.
You get that experience by playing through the game though. There are no "cookie cutter" builds in this game. You can have two players on a team with the same AT, powersets, and powerpools, and they can both play entirely different because of power-selections and enhancement slotting; yet both builds will be just as viable. Find what you enjoy doing in the game and go do that. Don't be concerned if you need to "try on" a few characters before you find the one you most enjoy. (As a side note, lack of this hands-on experience is also what makes characters power-leveled in AE suck so badly and have people avoid teaming with them.)
You mention Scrappers above, but don't sound too enthused about it; mostly citing "soloability" for the choice. If you can tell us what you most enjoy doing in MMOs* we can give you some opinions (or likely several) about what to look into for a character.
* -(Hitting for large amounts of damage in single hits, doing lots of AoE, staying in the back and seeing the whole fight, being in the thick of things, being the center of enemy attention, going un-noticed, being hard as nails, being always at risk of defeat for a single error, etc) -
Firstly, it adds some tension. If you screw up or the enemy gets lucky, you can be instantly down.
Secondly, for some of the tougher ATs, they take so little damage or are hit so rarely that it requires something that big to matter for them.
In an RSF last weekend I tanked Statesman, BAB, Synapse, Manticore, Citadel, and Positron at the same time while the rest of the team beat on Sister Psyche. If they weren't capable of flooring the other players on the team with one or two hits, they wouldn't have even turned my hair. -

Head to Nerva Archipelago. Do some Newspaper missions and Mayhems there and start to get your next tier of contacts.
Don't bother doing more Paper missions in Sharkhead. At 26 you're ready for Nerva and there are much more contacts in your level range there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Diviner Maros (some of the best story Villain side) and Operative Kirkland are both in Sharkhead 25-30. I wouldn't skip those. -

Explain please.
Does this mean I can slot that and the Steadfast +3% Defense in HPT and get a total of 6% Defense out of HPT?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. The set bonuses for the PVP recipes also go from 1-50, like Purples. Ogon_Dark and I have taken to calling the PVP recipes "Mauves" (as in 'almost purple'). -

It also has some things other sets don't, like a complete package of status resist. Only WP has that.

Are we just pretending /regen doesn't exist? ( Or is there a hole in Integration that I'm forgetting? )

Fear and Confuse at least. -

But seriously, use a STRONG password, do NOT download random crap from the internet and get yourself infected (and by extension, don't use Internet Explorer, ever), and especially don't share your login information with ANYONE. Even your login *name*.

Especially the Gold Farmers you'll get in-game emails from. There have been reports of them doing exactly what you describe of "pillaging" accounts; to say nothing of credit card fraud. -

I believe Black Scorpion is the one where you have to fight the four Mole Machines. I'd avoid that one solo.
[/ QUOTE ]
I just ran that one for the first time and.. aren't the mole machines supposed to spawn enemies or something? They were just big bricks of HP when I just ran it with team of 3 (yawn). Should I have bugged it?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think they spawn enemies as a rule. If it's bugged, it's been bugged for a very long time. -

Just getting started with CoH. Haven't been able to find a beginners guide but would appreciate a link if there is one.

Welcome to the Game.

1. Little confused by new interface. How do I chat with a player? If I'm invited to a group how to post to group?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you are on a Trial account, you actually can't initiate a private conversation with another player; you have to use Local chat or the Help channel.
On top of your typing box there are a bunch of little squares with letters in them. Click the one marked "L" and you can type in Local. To chat in the Help channel, type "/hc <whateveryourmessage>". If you get invited to a Team, you can talk in the Team's channel by clicking the little "T" above the typing box.
If you're *not* on a Trial, then you can type in Broadcast by clicking the little "B" on top of the typing box. If you want to send a message to a specific character, type: "/t <charactername>, <whateveryourmessage>". The comma after the character's name is required because names can have spaces in them. If you receive a Tell from another player (indicated in yellow) you can auto-reply by hitting the Backspace key.

2. I have "tray" at lower part of screen. I clicked something that duplicated the tray. Now I have 3 iterations of tray and can't get rid of the other 2. How do I do that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Right click on them. It may help to click on the "<" or ">" around the tray number and shift it to one that doesn't have power icons in it.
[ QUOTE ]
3. Can't see on my interface where my level shows. I know it's somewhere in the menus but I would think it would be obviously somewhere in the immediate interface.
[/ QUOTE ]
Click "Menu", then "ID".
[ QUOTE ]
4. If I don't already have a healing buff (is it 'inspirations' or 'enhancements?) then I have to wait a seemingly very long time for health to regenerate after a battle if I'm down to almost nothing. Is there a way around that?
[/ QUOTE ]
When you leveled up to 2, you should have received a "Rest" power. It will be grey with a little "+" on it. If it's not in your tray anywhere, click open "Powers" on top of the tray and scroll down to the box that says "Inherent"; Rest should be there and can be put in your tray by clicking on it.
Rest will drop all of your protections and immobilize you (so don't do it in combat) and give you a massive boost to Regeneration (HP) and Recovery (Endurance) rates.
Note that green Healing Inspirations are actually the least effective in protecting you during combat. The Orange and (especially at low levels) Purple ones give you Damage Resistance and Defense respectively; both will last for 60 seconds after being used.

Thanx for the help. Just trying to get oriented. Please bear with.

"Noob" is not an indictable offense in this Game. If you have any other questions, please feel free to come back here and ask them.

Which of the four patron arcs would be the quickest and eaiest for a Dark/Dark brute to do solo? I know that two of them involve objects with AV level HP and 75% resistances, but I don't recall which two.

in my experience, GW and Black Scorp are the easiest, GW is a joke if you have any kind of neg energy resist

I know there was an exploit several years ago where you could Exemplar yourself before claiming the HO and get a high level one, but I thought those were 53s and there seem to be an awful lot of lv52s around for that to have been the sole source of them.
[/ QUOTE ]They'd range from 51 up. That's where all of them come from.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they've got such a unique (and now unobtainable) origin, it's weird that they cost about the same as a lv50 then. -
On the market you can find lv50 HOs/SHOs and lv52 HOs/SHOs; you cannot find lv51s. Where do the 52s come from?
If they were combined enh, I would expect lv51s to have some sort of sales history; furthermore I've been told that combined enh cannot be sold on the Market.
If they were a factor of difficulty-setting, I would again expect there to be lv51s.
I know there was an exploit several years ago where you could Exemplar yourself before claiming the HO and get a high level one, but I thought those were 53s and there seem to be an awful lot of lv52s around for that to have been the sole source of them.
So how are lv52 HO/SHOs generated? -

I am just wondering what kind of missions do i need to run to get purple recipes or can i get them from or can i get them by doing any thing, other than AE of coarse. Thanks for any help
[/ QUOTE ]
Best thing you can do to maximize chances of a Purple drop: keep space in your recipe inventory.
