I can't help but feel that the Concealment Pool and Stealth in particular need some fixes. Given that you can turn any movement power to Stealth with 80 or so mil, why pick Stealth over Combat Jumping except for concept reasons, especially when CJ buffs your movement speed and offer immob protection? I'm aware that the whole pool is awesome as a mule for LoTG, but can't see why Stealth needs that speed debuff. I seems kinda outdated and all, now that you can replicate most of the pool with temp powers and IOs without wasting a single power choice.

Probably it's my playstyle, but I took Confuse at lv6 and it's crazy. Each mission will be a cakewalk, just Confuse, Mesmerize and Dominate and you simply can't lose. If fit hits the shan, just hit Mass Hypnosis. When I come across a really good npc, like Heavy Guns or Syndicate Telekinetisists, I just Confuse them and Power Push them around. I really really love my Mind/Nrg.
Also, enemy npcs have crazy good AI and will never attack a sleeping foe, unless it's the last one left and still give you 2-3 sec to Dominate them. If only pets were that smart. -
I'm on Virtue, my dom is still in Praetoria right now, but there's always Pocket D. However, you can just pick the Spine option for Thorns and pick orange as both primary and secondary color and it really looks really close to carrots.
-
Thanks for the help. I decided to go with Ice/thorn because yes orange spines really look like carrots and it's hilarious. So my first dom, Jack Carrots is born! I really enjoy the dom playstyle so far and I think this one is definitely a keeper.
-
I'm trying to make a magical snowman character so all three combos fit thematically (although ice/thorn is the most hilarious as thorns are supposed to be carrots). Now, I like the huge -recharge debuff capabilities ice/ice and ice/psi offer, but from what I'm hearing the damage is rather mediocre and /thorns might be a better choice. Then, both Drain Psyche and Power Booth seem much better than Aim, especially since you can basically use a yellow insp to do pretty much the same. Any suggestions?

So I decided to make a perma-Hasten build for my KM/SR Scrapper, and being a n00b for melee toons in general, I decided to ask for some feedback. I'm planning to slot the damage alpha and I could use some help with picking up the best attack chain. Also, do you think my build sacrifices something important for that amount of recharge? Also, is Elude that useful or can I replace it with Assault for some more damage? Thanks

Thanks. Since I'm not a huge melee fan, I think a "mini-controller" WM/DA would fit my playstyle better.
I'm also thinking of rolling a Kinetic Melee scrapper. Will see.
Thanks again. -
Exactly what it says on the title. The question is should I go with /DA or /SD?? I guess DA has more mitigation and I really like the idea of Oppressive Gloom couples with WM's built-in disorients. Then, I hear WM/SD has all the damage. Have you tries any of those combos???
Also, how's Kinetic Melee and what are some good secondaries for it? -
Quote:Yes, as I said above it even works even if you lose all your pets. As long as you have your FFG, you can summon a whole a new army and upgrade it by replacing your FFG. However, if you do so, the animation doesn't play the first time, but your pets are still upgraded, and you can check that on your pet window and the change in your pets' appearance. After that, however, if you replace your FFG again, the upgrading animation appears again and every time after that.I'd noticed the animation, but not the upgrade. But yes, it upgrades.
Idle question, then, does this work if you've lost ALL the pets, or do you have to have at least one surviving upgraded pet?
I speculate it's the FFG casting those powers on itself and since they're AoE, all henchmen are upgraded, too. -
Quote:If you have access to virtue, I can show you. That's what my repro steps were made to determine. Recasting upgrades on upgraded pets is odd but mostly harmless. Casting upgrades on unupgraded pets is important.
I don't have a /traps MM myself, but I'll ask friends to try this.
It's also worth noting that, the upgrade powers are not casted by your already upgraded pets, but from a third source, since you can resummon your whole army and still be able to upgrade it just by popping your FFG. -
-
Actually, it's more like:
1. Summon 6 pets + FFG
2. Upgrade pets
3. Resummon FFG before timer runs out and self-destructs.
That's it. Even if all your pets are equipped, both powers are casted again and the whole equipping animation of both powers plays again on all your pets. Of course, if there are unequipped pets around, they're equipped, too. -
I've been encountering this bug for more than a year now. I tried to report it but it never got fixed. I guess devs just had their hands full with GR and everything. I feel like I'm the only one that notices it, as I couldn't find a thread about it in the forums and all MM players I've asked so far were hearing this for the first time. Anyway:
For some reason, Force Field Generator "records" all Henchmen Equip powers used on pets and recasts them every time it's replaced by a new one. So, all you have to do is summon all 6 of your pet, plus the FFG and use your 2 Equip powers. Then, as long as you keep replacing your FFG and never allow it to self-destruct when the timer runs out, you can keep re-equipping your pets for free. Lost some pets in combat? Summon new ones and then, replace your old FFG with a new one to equip your newly-summoned pets for free (well, for 16,25 end unenhanced compared to 45,5+45,5). That gives quite an unfair advantage to /Traps MMs compared to other secondary powersets, especially in PvP.
Has any of you /Trappers out there encountered the same bug? -
Don't let the thread die!
Support the STRONG & PRETTY!! -
Ok, how about this (I don't know if this is even possible, but here goes nothing):
What if the devs monitored players for a month or so and count all Mystic Fortune accept/declines. Whichever part wins get their wish granted and we can finally go on with our lives. -
Few days ago, a friend of mine decided to start playing CoX and asked me to show him some of my costume creations to better understand the cc's strength and diversity. Ironically enough, the process was much more enlightening for me than it was for him, simply because I realized that, having purchased all booster packs available so far, not one single costume I created is booster-pack-exclusive-item free. While I'm ok with such microtransactions, I had a hard explaining him he was to spent $60(soon to be $70 - not counting valkyrie/good vs evil sets) to have the same character creation options with me.
I believe the upcoming release of the mutant pack is a good opportunity to launch:
1) a booster collection featuring all origin booster packs with a reduced price of $40
2) a complete collection (5 origins, wedding, valkyrie, good vs evil) for $70.
3) a build-your-own collection (instead of option 1) which allows you to choose any 5 booster packs you want for the price of $40/45
[The prices are of course subjected to change/are used only as an example.]
So what do you think? I realize most people have already bought at least one pack by now, but this solution is mostly geared towards new subscribers, who the game actually needs. -

Quote:I honestly didn't see your post the first time. It's not that ignored it of anything. As I posted earlier, the dev response at the EU anniversary event would suggest that it's not coming in the next 2 or 3 issues:
On the Coming but not yet Storm...
17:56:11 Judgement Dave: BTW are we going to see anything of that Coming Storm in the next 2 or 3 issues... or was the long range forecast as reliable as Michael Fish??
17:56:39 Ellie Mintal: The 'Experiecing Some Delays' Storm.
17:56:58 War Witch: Dangit, Ellie, you took my line.
17:57:05 Boudicea: A Compaies idea of 'soon' and a real persons are very different. i've learned that much in various jobs
17:57:27 War Witch: So true, Boudicea....
Funnily enough, no-one commented on that when I first posted it and I guess it'll be ignored again if it possibly answers the OP question...
However, it doesn't answer the question. War Witch actually said nothing on the matter, just commented on other people's replies. Devs are not known for their straight answers. Castle replied to an Electric Control thread by saying that the powerset is among many other Soon(tm) to be developed. Naturally, everyone thought that electric control was a rumour. Here we are, 2-3 weeks later waiting for Electric Control's release.
Tl;dr: Don't trust the devs. They're tricky -
Quote:I'm not ranting about anything. I just finished the Dean MacArthur arc the other day and received a letter from the Ouroboros letter-sender. So I came here to say that I believe that he and Coming Storm might have something to do with Incarnate System and asked whether others believe so, too. The thread got a little side-tracked somewhere in the middle, but that thread's question is at the OP: "Is a Storm Coming with issue 19?".xhris what the frak are u ranting about? i have read all your post on this subject you are making no sense.
That's it. -
Quote:Just from a mechanical perspective, I'd hate to be the guy tasked with designing the Incarnate system and content.
If it's easily soloable, it's "anticlimactic" and "a letdown" and "lol endgame".
If it's soloable but difficult, it's "powergamey" and "requires the supposedly optional IO system" and "excludes archetypes and builds" and is "stealth forced teaming".
If it requires you to assemble a team, it's "forced teaming" and "raiding content" and "exclusionary".
If it requires many characters working in concert and is based in common zones, it is "lol zone events" and "can't get enough people together" and "lags my machine" and "never happens when I'm online".
If it requires many characters working in concert and is based in population-capped instances, it is "just like hami" and "raiding" and "exclusionary" and "elitist" as well as everything above.
If it is cooperative, it is "why is my villain helping save the world"
If it is separate for each side, it is "there aren't enough people playing redside so I can't do it".
And if it requires PvP, it will be death, the destroyer of worlds. -
Quote:1)Complain about another poster's suggestionTo quote Indigo: Easy! Just off the top of my head:
The Well of the Furies is lost. Now. It wasn't in the past, though, and it just so happens Imperious knows where it is. Turns out the Midnighters' translation magic was ambiguous, and he just didn't know we were looking for it. Of course, being what it is, the Well is guarded by hideous monsters and in a place that's difficult to get to, like at the bottom of the Underworld or something. Getting to it is no mean feat!
However, once you get to it and share in its power... That's it. That's that. You have the power of the Incarnate. Only you don't really. You have the seed of that power, but nothing good comes for free. You can't just snap your fingers and be a god, you have to work at it. So, having found the power, it's up to you to use it and train for it in order to reach higher and higher levels of incarnate potential.
Why are you after it? Erm... Because it's there? Why do you want it? You mean aside from because it makes us more powerful? Who sends us to go get it? No-one, really. Imperious just guides us, but it's our own initiative that sends us there. How do you hone those skills? I dunno. Kill big things? Train under 100G? Visit the Peninsula of Levelling? Find the old man who lives at the top of the mountain? Kill Skuls? Why not all of the above?
That's basically what I'm saying. The story can focus on the journey and let us decide our own motivations. City of Villains is a lesson in how NOT to do things, because it assumes we want to be in Arachnos from level 1, and then it just runs with that concept for the next 49 levels. You don't want to? Well tough cookies! You're gonna'! It doesn't have to be like this. In fact, there was no reason to do it like this to begin with.
2)Suggest the same think with different names
3)???
4)???
5)Seriously ???
So you just replaced the ouroboros dude with Imperious. Interesting...
Quote:To be fair, I've done my best to make a distinction between content FOR Incarnates and content TO BECOME an Incarante. I can understand content for Incarnates being harder, and I could probably tolerate it since I can use my new-found super powers on the old game. I CANNOT accept, however, that the content to become an Incarnate would be so difficult as to basically rule out solo play forevermore.
By all means, write your "epic" TFs and zone events and Monster fights. But throw me a bone here and give me something I can do to work towards the same goal, just at a slower pace, if need be.
To sum up, my suggestion was that the O-dude reveals the location of the fountain. You go there (soloable content) and become an Incarnate, unlocking new powers. IF, and I repeat IF, you want to proceed and play Incarnate exclusive content, that's where the Coming Storm enters. He doesn't hire you to do a job. The Coming Storm is not a reason for YOU to become more powerful, it's a reason for HIM to find you and reveal the information. -
It heals both blue bars fast and the activation time is not the problem here. Recharge is. We are suggesting zero recharge.
-
Then feel free to suggest a way/storyline/anything tied to this game's canon that can fulfill your requirements.

If only people bothered reading the whole post before replying...

Quote:You previously said that RP arguments are inwinnable, yet the majority of your posts seems to be exactly that. RP RP RP. I'm a role-player my self, I play on Virtue, I take my time to create my characters' bio, costume, personality. You mentioned some of your character concepts, but all I could see was hero, hero for money, hero for fame, hero for bills, hero out of boredom, hero hero hero... I play both blueside and redside. I play honorable heroes and malevolent villains/criminals, but I'm not limiting my self there. I have a hero-avenger who's sworn to kill all Tsoo. Why would he need to "arrest" a bunch of zombies? My main villain is a businessman who developed new optical illusion and hallucinogenic technologies, thus creating the "drugs" of the future. Why would he kill Snakes? He's just ruthless and wants to be filthy rich.Just about any mission in City of Heroes is applicable to just about any character concept that tries it. The missions give you objectives to accomplish, but do not try to tell you WHY you are accomplishing them. So zombies are kidnapping people to cut them up for parts. So? Who gives a crap? Well, my character does, because he can't see innocents hurt while evil men triumph. My other character does, too, because she sees herself as a genuine super hero and feels it is her duty to save people in trouble. My other character does, too, because he's in the business of developing crime prevention technology and applying it himself is good publicity. So does my other character, because the city pays her bills in return. And so does my other character, for no reason whatsoever.
The game tells me WHAT to do. It's up to me to decide WHY I want to do it. You can talk me in circles all day, but this is not going to change. The moment the game tells me "you want to get stronger because..." I'm going to balk. On the spot. Things like "The voices tell you to smash!" or "You hate the smell of Carnival of Shadows!" are BAD WRITING.
You are asking for a reason as to why we want the power of the Incarnates. I'm telling you that I don't need the game to give me this reason, because I can make up my own. I don't mind the feature itself written into a particular storyline, I don't even mind having a specific story related to HOW I'm getting the power. I won't necessarily like it, but I can deal with it, provided the power doesn't come with a non-removable label saying "Power of the Incarnate: This is not yours!" It's the old Epics vs. Patrons debate. Epics are my powers MINE MINE MINE, whereas Patrons are other people's powers that I just borrow. AGGRAVATING! And it wouldn't be half as bad if the game didn't assume I wanted their powers because I wanted to give my heart to frikkin' Arachnos!
Anyway, I do NOT want a storyline that says "This requires the power of the Incarante. You want this, so you will go get that." This is bad writing in the extreme, and we do not need it. It's much better to say "Hey, new stuff has shown up and you can use it to get more powerful. Wanna?" Why? Who cares! Maybe I just want to be more powerful, maybe I want to save the world, maybe I want to fulfil an ancient prophecy or maybe I'm just bored. MY CHOICE!
On topic, what you seem to suggest is that you just get more powerful. You kill a Skul and get the power of ZEUS!!Oh shiney!! You have no problem with that, right? Yeah, it can fit to a lot of concepts. Gratz, you woke up and claimed the power of Aphrodite. Now go on and seduce a bunch of people.
So, how about this: A mysterious man approaches you claiming to be the ouroboros letter-sender. He asks you to join him to fight against the Coming Storm in exchange for more power. As a(n):
1)honorable hero, you join him in a heartbeat to save the world
2)avenger, you could use more power to fight you nemesis, but you couldn't care less about Coming Storm, so you disappear the instant you recieve you new powers.
3)evil evil villain, you join him for new shiney powers and to make sure that he won't be able to prevent the Coming Storm, so that everything is destoyed.
4) hero for hire, he join him because he paid you.
5)gullible idiot, you joined him because he told you so.
The game didn't say WHY you received new powers, it just gave you a way to receive them. You found this dude and you either willingly joined him or you tricked him into giving you power. Some speculate (myself included), that the single incarnate level in GR would be about getting a customizable power. However, the system is not all about getting more powerful. It's about getting exclusive content for lv 50s. Yet, you believe that a simple ohh shiney! power-up can do the job. You went all the way from level 1 to level 50, just to recieve a bunch of new powers? Your leveling journey was all about power, the end game content has to be more than that.
Quote:When was the last time City of Heroes followed the route set by every MMO ever made? I dunno, let me think. Hamidon, Rikti Ship Raid, the concept of multi-team Giant Monsters, Inventions, the Market, the STF and RSF, ultra-rare purples and even more rare PvP recipes, the Cathedral of Pain and PvP base raids (defunct but still here). People have been asking for stuff taken fed-ex out of the standard MMO handbook for years, and the developers eventually yielded and started giving us cleverly-modified versions of just that.
I'm afraid the more I post, the more I appear like I have a personal vendetta with you, but it nothing like that. It's more like I think we roughly suggest the same things, while failling to understand each other's suggestions.
