  1. Well the 1v1 hugging can happen on any zone. Personally I'm using my stalker to get at the hero grinders atm, and having great fun in doing so. Thank you positron for bringing us the double xp and allowing me to get my stalker up levels to recluses victory. Now the proverbial fox has found her way to the henhouse

  2. Its pretty much the only real problem, the people who think they have a divine mandate to grind in RV freely for as much as they like. Actually I recently discovered that there seems to have developed an entire subculture of grinders on defiant.

    I have been talking against heavies and rewards, but that is just an indirect way of getting at the grinders.

  8. I agree with knight stalker, pick up something that has good single target attacks and/or debuffs (unless you want to be support) and see what will happen. I'd recommend something bit durable at first though, so you would have some chance of observing whats going on without falling down immediately when a stalker looks at you in a bad way .

    Scrappers are pretty safe, balanced option. And theres usually more heroes than villains so its safer that way too.

    Stalkers who get invisibility (pool power) to go along with hide can observe fights in sirens call from relatively safe vantage point. They are also pretty easy to pick off sheep that have strayed off from the pack..

    Tankers (especially ice and fire in sirens) can be pretty safe too, but wont get many kills. Just concentrate on self-healing ability.

    Masterminds are troublesome to manage but can become nearly unkillable at higher lvl, not necessarily a beginners option though.

    Brutes might be nice too, /fire brute would be actually interesting in sirens.

    EDIT: My post concerns only zone pvp. For arena, well, best to try arena with SOMETHING and then figure what kind of toon would you like for arena. Observing other peoples fights and asking them for opinions is also good.
  9. Dont forget that warburg safe zone only applies to people of same side. Villains can kill heroes freely within the ship 'safe' zone.. If they avoid the drones.
  10. Im sort of interested to see what its like but I dont have Hami-lvl toons on Union so itd have to be on Defiant.

  12. Well I try to avoid generalizing and I know from pvp nights there are lots of nice people on union. But Ive been to union SC maybe 3 times this year and every time there has been someone like above. Not having a good pvp toon for beating them also gets to me >_<

    In addition Im getting bit disillusioned about COX PVP in general atm. I hope venting my frustration on the grinders in defiant RV helps a bit in near future, with my stalker project.

    Well this is in conjunction with my experiences from union zone pvp It may not be that bad overall but there seems to be more juveniles there than on defiant. Too bad I dont have serious pvp characters on union at all, just my domi who pretty much sucks in pvp.

    ps. the empath issue is silly..I have no problem with empaths when playing my stalker, I always assume my opponents are at +percep cap anyway until proven otherwise.

    Yes, but in this case the value itself is also a %-value, so it is possible to count the increase as percentage-units like
    14% + 56% = 70%
    OR
    like you say, normal %-increase: 14% * 1.56 = 21,84%.

    Its much easier to say this in finnish, apparently the double meaning doesnt exist so much in english language. I was originally wondering which of the options it is.

    Basically the idea is that you've got the Base defence that a Power gives, say 30% Melee.
    You then enhance this by sticking 3 SO DefBuffs in there. This gives just under a 60% increase due to ED.

    So now you've got 30 Base + (30 x 0.6) Enhancement = 48% Melee Defence Total.

    If you then use Positional-Defence Set Bonuses from IOs, they add directly to your total defence %, so a 3% Bonus to Melee would put you at 51% Melee Defence total.

    Example from game, my danger sense (lvl 42 stalker), has three +23,2% def enhancements. The buff/debuff value game gives while hovering mousepointer over the power is 57.4%.
    So my total def would be according to you 13.8% + 57.4% = 71,2% def (ranged/aoe) I somehow doubt that...

    Hmm, slightly related question that has bugged me a bit, whats the formula to count the total defense (typed or positional) when taking enhancement buffs and set buffs int account?

    ie. If I have base of for instance 13,8% def(ranged), and I have enhancements that state (+50% defense) in the tooltip, Is the resulting total defense base + base*(enh buff %) = 20.7% in this case? Or is the enh buff counted on as %-units (which would sound too big)?

    Where do the set bonuses apply in this? Straight to the total or what? Is there some place ingame where I can see the total defense? I guess there isnt.. Actually I think it would be best if the enhancement management screen would show the totals instead of buff amounts.. OR maybe not cause people like seeing numbers and in some cases the benefits are negligible..

The perfect counter-example of this are Granite-only Stone tanks who are repeatedly the last one standing against huge mobs because they're virtually unkillable, but they simply can't control the aggro so all their teammates die.     And there we go again with the 'what is tanking' story. Granite cant keep agro, fire is squisy and inv is dull and boring, ice tanker pwnz all.

    For the record a sonic def can cap fire and inv kinda on every element, making them non less then a Granite. Its the whole story of finger pointing. My Granite hits nearly 2 years lvl50, i know very well what i am capable of and if i am able to keep agro. And clearly if 1 team member cant handle a lost minion, its more his playstyle then my 'agro management'.

    And thus, issue 10 for inv and fire tankers.. get a sonic and behold. (this is very well proven and tested to high degree +3 AV tanking). So yeah a sonic is needed, but isnt a rad or kin also needed for STF?

    The answer lies somewhere in between. The tank primaries are different to provide variety. Variety is a fun factor. There is no 'best' overall set.
