  1. Pics or it didn't happen, right? Well, I can top that: here's a video!

Petless Masterminds are not a new idea, but the general concensus is that any such character is doomed to suck. Well, I've found out otherwise. They don't have to suck!

With a careful brew of +HP, +Resist and damage procs, I've made a petless Mastermind that is a capable combatant all on its own. It is more survivable than various stock archetypes, and dishes out more damage than some of its cousins.

I think I went overboard on survavability a bit. It has more hit points now than the Arachnos archetypes, and can take more hits than maybe it should. The video can explain more.

Granted, any sensible player would put the same amount of effort into practically any other archetype and make a character that's FAR more effective, but that's not the point. The point is that I made a petless Mastermind, and I made it work. (-:

Apologies to fans of Paralytic Poison. I completely forgot to use it in the video.
  2. The +Regeneration and +Recovery Enhancements say they give a bonus "for 120 seconds." Does this mean the power they're slotted into needs to be used to grant the bonus, or do they function like normal global bonuses?

What I'm looking at is if I need to put them in Health for persistent buffs, or if I can stick them in, say, Aid Other instead.

Surely you mean commas. I can't think of any situation where a coma should be used.

  7. When the free transfers end, you have two same-price options:

    1) Pay $10 to move a character to another server; freeing up one slot.
    2) Pay $10 to buy two new slots on the server and keep all existing characters.

  9. That is good enough for me. And all it took was a citation! Holy cow, this sources stuff really does the trick!

  11. I haven't checked the videos, but do they explicitly state the friends and family portion? I won't accept anything that's just speculation.

I play the game on and off; once every other day or so. I have global friends who are generally on, and have interesting personalities and super groups and there's always something to do. Whether it's blowing up absolutely everything in a Mayhem mission and then using Walk to "strut" out of the mission, or stopping to deal with a deadly apocalypse between missions of a task force, it's always interesting and I'm always looking forward to what's ahead.

There are many different powersets in the game, and many costume options to match with them. I can be whatever I want: team support, aggro control, damage dealer, or whatever. I can throw fire, electricity, rocks, hit people with my hands and feet, suck away their life force and even hurt them until they feel better. I can run fast, jump high, fly and, well... walk, if I so choose.

There are so many places in this game, and so many different kinds of enemies. And there are other people who write stories for me to play. There are never two days that I spend the same way, and I will continue to pay $15/mo to continue to be able to enjoy this game that has only gotten better over the years.

There's an expansion coming up. All of this great stuff that I already love about the game, and they're making more! A game that I'm perfectly happy with is getting bigger and better.

    ...

So, uh... Could we shut up about "Going Rogue information" please? The game is already good stuff. If it's not good enough for you, then you're some kind of foolish glutton who feels the need to pay a subscription fee just to whine about nothingness. It's not cute.

Villain-side has a temp power that does this. It's a leftover from pre-CoV beta where the Longbow Nullfiers had the guns as well. In addition to -End -Recovery, it detoggles the target's active powers.

  17. The background music for Duo starts out with the continuing Force Field sound effect, except it's not unnaturally cut off like it is in City of Heroes. Now, every time I play Duo, I imagine a film of soap bubble between me and the computer screen.

Download the game, extract the files, then load up Media/Duo.mp3 if you just want to hear the music.
  18. My favorite version of this joke is subtle, so a lot of people won't get it. It must in some way reference the mafia:

Q: Why did the Marcone Capo cross the road?
A: The road had it coming.
Or: The road was no longer needed.
  19. The Ocho was--I think--tanking for today's Hamidon raid on Triumph, and afterwards was tossing around the word Ultra (with a capital U) a lot in Pocket D saying we should definitely keep our eyes out for something next week. I immediately remembered this thread, and I can pitch in that today's rumor seems a lot more likely than it did yesterday.

I'm a smidge different in that I find the power even more entertaining when it misses. You're spraying a huge swarm of bullets at 12 or so people, and somehow one of them fails to get hit.

  22. You can have five set bonuses of the same strength for the same attribute. So five +2.5% Cold resists, for instance.

You can have five single-Enhancement bonuses that work the same as set bonuses. So five +4 Knockback Protection from Karma, for instance. I'm not sure if this applies to different Enhancements, but I think you get 5 for each one (meaning I think you can get 60 KB protection by using five each of Karma, Zephyr and Steadfast Protection).

Anything more than the fifth in either scenario will be "zilched," as it were. It will not apply.

Procs are not affected by the law of fives. You can have 13 Pacing of the Turtle Chance for -Recharges in your build if you want.
  23. Poison is an awesome hodgepodge of buff, debuff and control powers, though I find that I only use a few of them with any sort of strategy. Peg someone with Envenom (ranged -Def -Res) to make them easier to hit and die faster, then shoot Paralytic Poison (ranged Hold) at them so they don't fight back. Simple enough.

But Weaken (ranged -Dmg -ToHit) and Neurotoxic Breath (cone -Speed -Recharge) don't get used much in my inventory because they're not usually needed. If something is held and dying, why debuff them? Well, that's where IOs come in. Once I get my debuffs slotted with damage procs, I can already see that I'll be spamming them as if they were attacks. Masterminds do so little damage to begin with that the amount from the damage proc (71.75 at level 50) is actually a significant amount (about the same as their SLOTTED "heavy ranged" attack power).

Knowing that I might do a full attack's worth of damage when I breathe on my enemies with a -Speed debuff, I'm bound to use it far more often.

This is true of all fractals; hardly unique to the Mandelbrot Set. See Julia Set and Weierstrass Function for more info.
