From what I've read, it's pretty much going to work exactly how the current GvE edition works now. You'd buy the Mac GvE pack and get your goodies, just like the PC GvE pack. The Mac verison has DIFFERENT goodies to the PC version, but owners of one can buy the goodies of the other.
So, I'm utterly failing to see how this could be even remotely unfair, frankly, and I think people either just don't comprehend what is really a very simple concept, or are just whining.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why the personal attacks?
The post is NOT about it being unfair that new players get a special power.
It IS about the ongoing trend about micro-payment for goodies. It IS about the concern that NCSoft will create buyable packs that are a simple must have.
It is also a question. Do others see this trend as something unwanted?
The answer so far seems to be. NO, people don't see a problem with this trend or don't expect this trend to grow 'out of control'. -
No need. Half of the MM's would crash due to lag issues.

And I have, so it could be 4.
It's at least 3, since Delph is not the one I've seen, and neither is his girlfriend.

I saw one to so it could be 5 -

We will be able to buy a valkyrie pack
I am sure we will be able to pay a monthly fee for the mission teleport pack.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe the extras that come with the Mac Special Edition will be packaged together in the same manner that the GvE Edition goodies were packaged together.
[/ QUOTE ]
So no monthly fee then?? Ai Ai me not liking that. Then I sincerely hope it has a huge cooldown of at least 1 hour. -
This means that i will continue ToT-ing with my alts. Curses! How can I commit nefarious deeds when my alts keep demanding to beg for treats????
-
I would consider it an honour and accept. It helps that the toon i got in mind of that (namely my namesake) allready reached that spot where i dont have much for him to do anymore.
Plus I can always make a child of version. -

Really, we don't know much about this 'Teleport to Mission' power, and it's a bit early to judge how 'unbalancing' it is, however it probably has a 30 minute timeout, so we aren't exactly talking game breaking. If you think that's going to replace travel powers in most people's eyes, then I'd suggest reassessing. Aside from anything else, it's only to mission doors, what about all the other places you need to go?
[/ QUOTE ]
As a travel power it will be limited true. The jetpack is more versatile of course. Though I will probably dislike the mission tp more. Buncha show offs. Can't we force those with tp to door to take recall friend as well?
[ QUOTE ]
And beyond that, the rest of your post was worst case scenario speculation with the suggestion that it was inevitable. Exactly what we come to expect at the weekend, really.
[/ QUOTE ]
Weekend got an inconvenient timing here. It should not be a weekend when i am trying to express a worry and invite others to discuss said worry. -

I love Hasten, along with Stamina, it is my favourite and IMO most useful pool power of all time.
[/ QUOTE ]
So you only waste 1 power not 2 right?
Of course hasten, air superiority, recall friend tp foe and even combat jumping are usefull in their way. But would you have taken that power if you didn't need it for the travel power? -

Economics is a thing where some people say thats insane while others see an opportunity.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, all those bankers who lent money to people who couldn't pay it back saw opportunity. I happen to think our devs are wiser than that.
[ QUOTE ]
I don't understand why you see this as insane though? So far people seem to be willing to pay for the additions. So why not take it a step further?
[/ QUOTE ]
For the same reason EATs are not more powerful than base ATs. Balance is good for subscriptions, inbalance is bad for subscriptions. Therefore deliberately breaking balance, wether its down to money or having a level 50, will loose subscriptions.
Subscritions are way way more important to revenue than one any one off sales. You pay around £9 per month subs. A supebooster pack could only be produced about every other month, only brings in £5, and not all players will buy it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the reasoning behind your statement. Hope you are right about the sanity of our devs then. In the end all we can do is wait and see what happens next. We will get more paid for ad ons of course. But hopefully they wont be insane enough to do pink fluffy bunny things. I remain slightly concerned in the meanwhile though, but a little less then before. -
With normal fly they dont fly with you. However they can run and jump pretty fast and maange to follow you around the map. They will however draw loads of agro.
Never tried group fly with them. Pets love to wander around and probably would leave the flyfield anyway. -

It appears to be pet targeted, with a 30' radius in the current build. .

When you do red side you can earn 3 flight packs. Which can last a long long time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Redside you can earn an infinite number of jet packs, which can last you forever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Infinite? Using the ourobouros system I presume? THanks for the tip
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
My concern is that they keep creating things that give you an edge over people that don't use them. They ALLREADY did that with the Jetpack.
[/ QUOTE ]
NO. They didn't. The free jetpack makes that completly invalid. Ouroborus even more so. You don't need to be a die hard player to use a free jetpack.
[/ QUOTE ]
The raptor only last for 2 hours blue side. And travel is more then go from zone to zone. It is the inzone travel you want the travel powers for. Ouros, pocket D, Vanguard and even SG TP's dont let you do that. Some zones like Fault, shadow shards, Boomtown and IP are a nightmare to do without travel power.

this pretty much sums up my feelings about it. i had misgivings when the wedding pack came out, with it offering items to people who could pay more. in an egalatarian (up to that point) game, if you had more money, your character would be different. at that point, it was only in a few costume items and a pointless emote, but a precident was set.
with the new packs, you are able to get an advantage using real-world cash. it's only a small advantage at the moment i admit, but in my opinion, that's a steep slope they're on.
the impact of real-world money on the game world will create a class system within Paragon. you will have advantages now, not based upon your play-style or your character's experience, but rather upon your ability to pay for it. we aren't there yet, but with each new pack we get closer.
i could buy these packs. i get paid well, and in the overall scheme of things, such an outlay is negligable, but i won't. in paragon, the city of supers, we're ironically created equal at the moment. with the addition of paid for extras that will change.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good to see I am not the only one then who has migivings about this. BTW the pay for goodie system exists from even before the wedding pack but they keep adding more and more things you can buy. Like name change, server transfer and extra character slots. The trend is set. I wonder how far they will go. -
IT will be faster to setup at the cost of being less flexible inside the mission. Not sure if I am happy or unhappy about this.

Arnold then exerts his new authority by kicking your main toon from the SG, borking the base, challenign every SG he can to a base raid (and losing badly so your stuff gets trashed) kicking every toon and hten leaving the SG
[/ QUOTE ]
Arnold allready can do this. Once a leader becomes inactive for a certain amount of time, the first to log in after that time has expired, automatically becomes the new leader. Including said Arnold. Who can, as leader, do any of the things you are affraid of. I inherriteded loads of SG's that way. Never done the silly things Arnold did though. -
Stop drooling you idiot! Glowmaps are not yet available.

[ QUOTE ]
The devs know that anything that unbalanced the game in such a way would loose them subscribers. Therefore, as I said, you question is "What would happen if the devs all simultaniously went insane?"
[/ QUOTE ]
What you call insane some call good economics. A lot of things happen that I consider insane still they do happen.
The things I am worried about here are not that insane by comparison.
After all they DID create stuff that you only have acces to if you pay extra money. My concern is not that they make a power that is enormously unbalaced. My concern is that they keep creating things that give you an edge over people that don't use them. They ALLREADY did that with the Jetpack. Sure you have to pay for it every month but it will give you an edge over the rest of us who happen to need a travel power at 14 (except for the die hards out there).
There are quite a few powers out there that are needed by most. Like the travel powers or stamina. I bet I am not the only one who would like to safe 5 power slots for good powers instead of 'neccesary' powers. -
[ QUOTE ]
They could give you something else at 14 then if that level is so important.
Selecting what style you want to travel in when you create you avatar is much more sensible, and user-friendly - select your origin, outfit, name, signature power pools, and travel method, then enter the game and develop your abilities.
For the same reason, I'd like a basic cape to be available from level 1 too, but with no markings or patterns or other styles - they'd be unlocked at 20.
[/ QUOTE ]
I happen to think that rewarding people for acheived milestones is a good thing. In fact the whole game is based on it. For example the VEAT HEAT thing. I have spoken to quite a few people who had to work hard to hit 50 (or were attempting that) just to get acces to these. Sure it would be nice to have all the good things happen to you at level 1 but what is my motivation then to try to earn them? -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll only comment on this, since the rest is mainly DOOM (tm).
[/ QUOTE ]
I see it more as expressing my little concerns and checking if those concerns are shared by others in the community.
The answer to my question seems to be. No, we are not concerned in the least. Then I became curious if people are not concerned because they either don't see a thing like that happeneing or don't mind paying for things like that.
[ QUOTE ]
It's arguable, certainly, but there is limited need for travel powers, and the most useful time to have them (the early levels) is covered by in-game available temp powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
When you do red side you can earn 3 flight packs. Which can last a long long time. For that matter I am trying to level a veat up to 50 without travel powers. Also because I can't find powers I dont want to have gotta try em all. But for me that is a challenge. A challenge I choose to accept.
Some people like the challenge to never level up and hit level 50 without slotting any more powers then level 1. Some like the challenge to guild the most evilly wicked build they can. Paying billions of influence for very rare recipes to tweak out even better numbers. Others try to get every badge available in the game. The game is full of challenges that way. But most people will choose not to do so. They will take their travel power at level 14 and 'waste' their two build slots on something they only use to travel from mission to the shops and trainers and vica versa. I am sure there are enough people willing to pay extra Euros for the privelege of paying for powers to do just that. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's a pointless question, since the devs wouldn't add a power that would unbalance combat. Take the self distruct power. This doesn't really have a significant effect on gameplay because of it's extremly long recharge time. Anything else they added would be balanced by similar downside.
It would be as meaningful to ask "would you continue to play if all the dev went insane and coverted all the villain mobs into pink fluffy bunnies". It's something that simply isn't going to happen, so it is stupid to get in a flap over it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would have never expected to see a travel power appearing that can replace normal travel powers. Yet we have the flight pack and soon the even more handy tp to mission.
You see a trend that games come free these days but you must pay for goodies that makes the game shine. Right now we have the same thing happening to us in a limited fashion. The buyable goodies are nice to have but not game breaking. That could change however if the Dev's decide that they like to earn more money by making the buyable pack a neccesity instead of a fun little thing. Is this scenario feasable? I surely think it is if NCSoft think it a good strategy to make more profit. It is not random insaneness speaking here (although when you see what the stock markets do these days) but a way to make money. They have taken the first step. Will they make the next one as well?
-
There is of course a difference to do evil acts because they are profitable or to do evil things because you like to hurt people.
While the criminal element is a thing embraced in a lot of games. They seem less eager to let player play a Psycho.
For the truly 'evil' missions in this game like finding 'labrats' for the doc. I don't like doing that mission, it is to cold blooded for me. -

Them gunslingers are almost as irritating as Sappers or Paragon Protectors in Uber mode. -
