msiexec still running - were you in the process of running an update for something (including via Windows Update and various app updaters) or have you had one complete which is awaiting a reboot?
-
Have you checked that it isn't your CAP-LOCK, SCROLL-LOCK or more likely NUM-LOCK settings - shouldn't affect a stand alone delete key but will if it is the one on the numpad.
May also be worth checking your language settings and whether your keyboard is recognised correctly in Windows. -
As Mandu says this is probably a PSU problem
What is happening is the 5V reference line from the PSU is registering a voltage level which is out of spec - either high or low and so is powering down the PSU to prevent possible hardware damage - it isn't always quick enough though and the spark from a blown PSU can be impressive.
It can be caused by the PSU fan failing to cool the PSU sufficiently so try cleaning that with a can of compressed air.
However you say you have just upgraded your video card so my suspicion is your new card is drawing sufficient power to overload the PSU in which case you will have little option but to replace it - steer well clear of cheap unbranded ones - their regulation is often appalling at moderate loads and their thermal efficiency even worse. A quality 500W PSU will probably outperform a budget 1000W one.
If you post your general system specs someone will probably be able to recommend a decent one. -
Quote:The launcher has been worked on - hence the change from using the CoHUpdater which was provided with CoH, CoV, GvE to the new NCsoft Launcher provide with GR. I suspect that AE may have used the old NCsoft launcher which just used the CoHUpdater behind the scenes. I believe Steam has (had?) its own launcher and I'm not sure how that interacted with the standalone ones provided with the DVDs.
If the Launcher has difficulty working with AE disk installs, then the Launcher should be worked on. Forcing customers to download - with the way ISPs are going with data caps - any more than is necessary to update isn't a very good move.
It was announced several months ago that the old CoHUpdater was being deprecated and would at some point stop working -
Your observations are very helpful in this Magenta. With this being recent it may be a lot of why I haven't seen it - I've only done a couple of BAFs in the past week and as you say Lambdas can't be large enough for it to be an issue.
Hopefully we can build on those and better identify the specific conditions causing it.
If moving people between teams prevents them being dropped then there is presumably something about the team makeup causing it.
Some thing I can think of to try
Different team sizes (I presume this has been looked at but just to ensure its there)
3*8, 2*8+smaller teams, 24*1! (I'm not altogether sure I'd want to do it if that was the only option though), All teams smaller than 8, All teams larger than 1.
No mixed faction teams
All mixed faction teams
All teams formed - then join league
All invited to league - then to team
Single faction league (Oh I really hope not!)
Any idea as to the AFK status of players prior to entering? (could be related to the kick anyone not clicking enter in time change).
I would presume the unable to rejoin is a consequence of being kicked before entering as that would mean they were never on the trial in the first place although I'd have thought locking the teams should avoid that. -
I was about to suggest looking at the modem drivers in case one of the GUIDs is corrupt in the system registry but I think Tex spotted the problem.
The launcher in the screenshot is saying Launch Game whilst all instances of the game are showing a red icon - I'd have expected it to say Update with a red icon and only Launch when the icons are green which definitely indicates a problem.
The screenshot also says there was a problem with the last operation which raises the question what did you try to do - is this from just starting the launcher or have you tried to run an update or have you clicked Launch game?
I'd certainly look at the option that you may need to reinstall the launcher. Hopefully that should pick up all your currently installed game instances.
You haven't moved any of them from where they were initially installed? That could confuse it as to where to find required files. If so reinstalling the game client may be the easiest way to resolve it.
I noticed on the Hijack This you have Steam installed - is this installed via Steam or from DVD? -
Tito,
I'd have to agree with the others that your posts are largely generallities and you need to give more specific details about the problems you are having. It is clear you are experiencing severe difficulties but you are not providing sufficient information to allow anyone to identify what the actual problem is.
Personally I haven't seen anything like the problems you are encountering nor do I know anyone that has, however that does not mean I don't believe that some people do - presumably including yourself.
There are some known problems which may be impacting your system such as the memory leak in the launcher which appears to cause mapservers - ensure the launcher is set to close upon launching the game rather than continuing to run in the background.
What server is this on?
Do you still get the same problems if you reduce your game settings?
Before enterring were the teams locked?
How many others on the same run had the same problems?
Was everyone in the same zone before starting?
How much memory have you got installed? - 512Mb is going to cause problems zoning on a heavily populated server as you will hit timeouts. -
Before you panic too much - try reseating the data and power connectors to the drive - both at the drive and also at the motherboard - its possible it could just be some corrosion or dirt on the connectors.
This could cause data read or write errors so it is possible there could be data corruption if this has been the problem. However, if a critical file has been corrupted you may need to reinstall affected applications or even windows. -
Quote:What version of the drivers did he restore to? There were a couple of releases about 2 years ago that got the fan profile seriously wrong - As the card got hotter the fans slowed down!My friend did a Driver restore because I updated driver two weeks ago. Problem still exists. My friend is pretty convinced that the cards are fried somehow but that's why I am asking if NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT is decent enough because we are going to swap the cards tonight and test to see if it is the graphic card problem.

Windows expects at least 15% free disk space on all drives. When space drops below this it impacts Windows housekeeping as well as the swap file.
Clearing out unused applications and other unneeded files will do far more to improve system performance than throwing RAM at the problem. 4Gb is more than enough for CoX to perform well if no other major memory hogs are running. It also has the advantage that it is cheap (if you back up the files you delete to external media) or free (if you don't).
Also make sure you clear out your internet cache (caches if you use different browsers) and Windows temp folders (leave anything with today's date - delete everything older)
Also if there are multiple accounts on the PC repeat for each user. -
Hence my warning about it invalidating the warranty.
At no time did I say they must or even should do so - just that it is possible. Anyone wishing to do so should check out the process involved and how to restore to factory spec and then decide.
Also from what I've read it does work on the 1Gb cards although you obviously won't get any more memory afterwards.
I actually suspect there will be some suppliers such as Overclockers who may decide to sell some pre flashed with their own warranty. -
Your global didn't change with the merge did it? (if it was an EU account it may have - if it was a trial account it will have) - If the global you send it to doesn't exist you will get the behaviour you describe.

Not noticed any problem on mine
shortcut to the launcher
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\Launcher\NCLauncher.exe"
Displays (location set to Europe)
INSTALLED
City of Heroes (US)
City of Heroes
City of Heroes Test (EU)
City of Heroes Beta
Aion
NOT INSTALLED
Lineage
Lineage II
Guild Wars
I installed the NCSoft launcher when Aion was released so it may be that more recent installs aren't picking up the seperate installations - you have installed each client to a separate folder haven't you? - The Beta install was after the launcher was installed and was still picked up properly. -
Also worth considering if you go for the 6950 you can flash the bios on it to a 6970 in most if not all cases giving a significant boost to performance for no additional outlay.
Note that strictly speaking doing this will invalidate your warranty so if yo do decide to do so ensure you keep a copy of the original firmware so if you need to return the card for warranty you can flash it back to factory spec.
This was certainly the case about 6 weeks ago - the 6950 and 6970 cards were all identical hardware at that time - Radeon may have locked them down since, -

Given that the router is on the second floor and you are in the basement I doubt you are going to get much luck. Most routers will give a decent signal out to about 100 foot but that is without any obstructions such as walls, floors, electrical wiring, furniture etc. In addition to that the signal pattern of the router will probably resemble a donut - so decent signal around the router but very poor either directly above or (your problem) below.
You can get external antennae for some wireless adapters which could help - also try moving your PC (or its antenna if that is external) to different locations to see if you can get a better signal. If you can find a location with a reasonable signal you may find its not where you want to keep your PC - one option then would be to get a wireless repeater - most routers can be configured to operate as one if you can't find any- and locate that where you have a decent signal - then you just need to connect to your repeater. -
Quote:Also let me rephrase that I can get to the c prompt via the recovery disc but the system does not recoqnize the chdsk command line, some kind of error that is an invalid command and yes I did double check to make sure I typed it right.
Gonna run SeaTools Dos to see if that helps to isolate the HD as the problem and then Memtest to see if its the RAM if the HD passes.
recovery disk!
That could be the problem - why oh why do people accept these instead of the proper installation disks.
When you do an install from a proper Windows disk it will first of all copy a basic set of utilities and the setup files to a ram drive (this will be iirc X: not Cwhich it will create first - this includes things like chkdsk.
Several OEMs will skimp and not provide the original media but instead install the setup files onto a seperate partition on the hard drive and then provide a recovery disk to access it - guess what happens if your hard drive fails or you delete that partition -
Quote:I can still find copies of the original CoH and CoV available on the shelves in more than one branch of Game - and at the original price - I wonder why the don't sell given they have GvE on the same shelf at half the price. You can not find just plain ordinary CoH or CoV in any regular game store any more. They can be found in second hand game stores or places that handle discontinued merchandise but not new on the shelves.
I think the OPs problem arises from the reactivation week granting access to Praetoria and GR content for all accounts during that week. -
The only time I've ever been on a team which pulled them was on one of the previews on test.
On Live we've always just ganked them at their spawn points where the turrets can't target you - 3 teams - one on each AV and one on Adds. Adds tends to be control/aoe heavy. -
Is that the one where you have to lead someone out but the mini map makes it look as if you need to go through a solid wall to get to the tunnel.
If so use the exit from that room opposite to where it looks as if the tunnel is - it loops all the way round - you need to take your charge back to the mission entrance.
Also did you /petition it or /bug it - they go to different departments and only /petition will give a GM response. -
Quote:I don't know how much you follow the technical issues forum but there are at least 2 people with GTX295 who had issues. I haven't heard any update if this has been resolved. The fastest single card single GPU is the best answer. There are many good choices like ATI 6870, 6950, 6970 or Nvidia 460, 560, 570, 580. Of course, none of those are cheap.
Its worth bearing in mind if you end up picking beteen the 6950 and 6970 - buy the 6950 and flash the bios with one from a 6970 - they currently are identical hardware. -
Is this actually correct?
Resolution: 19200x11780
3D Resolution: 19200x11780 (Not using renderscale)
That's 10x both the horizontal and vertical resolutions I'd expect to see! -
