Quote:You can get a build that's pretty tough by either soft capping smash/lethal defense and also getting some ranged/AoE defense to cover other exotic damage types or by going force epic and slotting up PFF, Force of Nature, Temp Invulnerability and supplementing it with some ranged and melee defense.I made my 5 year old a blaster to play with. I made him an nrg/fire. Watching him play the combo looked pretty neat and was thinking of making the combo for myself but i had a couple concerns.
1) Blasters defense is kinda weakish against melee attacks. /fire has alot of powers in melee range.
2) How survivable would he be if i got melee def/resist as high as possible?
3) How much def/resist do blasters actually have?
I have the inf to make him as good as possible, just don't know how good, possible is.
Thanks for any info.
Both can be built to be pretty tough.
For smash/lethal cap build, slot up attacks with Kinetic Combat, go with fighting pool for tough/weave. Slot up Tough with Reactive Armor and grab the ice epic for Frozen Armor. Focus of this build will be capping smash/lethal and some supplemental positional defense.
For a force epic build. Grab fighting pool for tough/weave, grab temp invulnerability, slot up PFF for Defense and Recharge, supplement with around 25% in positionals - range and melee by using Blessing of the Zephyr, Makos, Lockdown for range defense; Obliterations, Touch of Death for melee. The focus of this build will be smash/lethal resistance with positional defense and some regen. -
Quote:You can also do it with drums. Image taken by Cosmic_Hyperion.It's possible, yet time consuming, to build a bridge made of oreoportals.
It's also very fun and it somehow changed altitudes from under Atlas to the top of city hall.
Also, you can stand on Oreoportals in mid-air as as surface.

'It's tempting to look at the history of Television and assume that Television was always destined for greatness. But when the personal computer first appeared, Television's success was entirely uncertain. When the first dedicated e-book readers launched, Television's hold was absolutely in question. These were times that threatened the very fabric of friendship and meaning. That threatened who we were, who we are. But despite advances in technology, despite our fear and differences, the Television remained great because we chose to support it. We now face another threat, this time not just by an entertainment commodity, but by its creator, Dr. Aeon. Aeon tells us not to watch television, not because AE is better, but through fear of the Television.'
'I know the fears that are out there. Some of them are old -- the fears that Television can't compete with the new media. Others are no older than Aeon's propaganda campaign.'
'The Television does not control minds. The Television tells stories. The Television is stories. So are you. You are all a lot of stories. Some stories come out of working your nine to five jobs. The good ones come from Television and playing CoV.'
'Aeon believes that the best way to get a new graphics technology out sooner is to berate the tech lead who is so identified with images that it is named the Television. I don't know what to make of that. What I do know is that every time you post about your friendship with the Television you affirm the importance of stories and meaning. You remind the devs that pretty pictures require stories to live. You ask for content and you tell them you don't want to wait for Going Rogue. And believe me: the devs are listening.'
'We need to start protecting our friends. We need to start supporting our friend the Television. It is time for you to post your support for your friend Television, Forum Posters, and remind us of the importance of stories.' -
Quote:If I don't want level 50s, I usually target ranges that people often overlook (levels 37-44). And I bid on recipes and craft them myself. To win the bid, I bid slightly higher than the lowball bid you see in the last five. Also, I check on how active the trading has been. If the last one sold in that range was 5 months ago, I'd bid on a different range. Typically, I've been able to get LoTG recipes at this range at 65M-85M. However, I haven't bid on these for a while since mostly my characters are done.I don't mean to threadjack, and I know this really belongs in the market forum, but how do you get a global rchg LoTG for less than 100M? I've been buying these (very slowly as I accumulate some inf) over the past couple weeks and have been "bargain shopping" and have paid 100-110M for them (can't bring myself to pay more than 110M for some reason). BTW, the ones I bought are all below lvl 50.

I don't have time for a lengthy critique, but here's a condensed list of points.
1. Mid's has an error that doesn't factor in +3.75% range defense that Phalanx Fighting gives you, hence you're overlotted in ranged defense. Hence, take slots out of Kick.
2. 6 slotted Eradiction is a poor choice for Shield Charge. Either go with 6 x Obliteration or just frankenslot with 3 Eradication + 3 something else and maximize accuracy, damage, recharge.
3. You can gain some needed AoE defense by changing Tough to 3 slots of Aegis.
4. Add 1 more slot to Hack and change to either Touch of Death or Mako's Bite, depending on what position you need increased. Or if you want to keep the Achilles Heel proc in there, then 5 x Crushing Impact. Kinetic Combat is an overly expensive choice to put in that power. -
Posty,
I don't think you'll get that many comments on this build because kat/wp plays very well just with SOs. You really don't need to frankenslot apart from using IOs to get more end redx and recharge into your attacks. The toggles can be slotted with just 1 end redx/resistance IO and then with resistance SOs as desired. Your AoEs can take Multi-strikes which are not only cheap (at level 50; they're harder to find midlevels) but effective for what you want to do.
Also, don't slot for secondary effects on attacks. It's just not worth it to slot for those if you're gimping either accuracy, damage, end redx or recharge. Enhancing those values are almost always better than enhancing a secondary effect.
Also, for a frankenslotted build you have a quite a few expensive pieces.
Frankenslotted builds should be cheap. Numinas and Luck of the Gamblers, even the non-proc pieces are beyond the budget range of most frankenslotted builds. You don't have money issues but for many players, it is an issue.
Here's a cheap set build (it's not quite frankenslotting) that accomplishes what you want and is still effective. One thing that I'm not happy about is focused accuracy. I would've liked to take tactics instead (since it is superior to FA in every way) but I needed the pre-req to take physical perfection. I also replaced assault (10.5 damage mod bleh) with Strength of Will, which is far more useful. The damage bonus you get from assault will be little more than background noise and I offsetted it partly by slotting two Adj Targeting pieces for a 2% global damage buff.

Quote:Note that the build does *NOT* have any LoTG +Recharge. It uses a Def/Rech (not the global recharge) piece instead. This obviously brings down the cost a lot since a LoTG is around 80M-100M for a sub 50, and the level 50s range from 100M-125M.Impervious Armor, Numina's Convalescence and Luck of the Gambler are the only expensive items I can see.
Pretty much agree with your assessment of expensive pieces:
Imp Armor Resistance - 40M
Numina's Heal and Heal/Rech - 20-30M, though I'm probably underestimating these since I haven't bought these for a while
Steadfast Res/Def - 25M
Gaussian's Rech/End - 20-50M
Mako's Quad - price varies alot
Luck of the Gambler Def and Def/End - 20-30M each -
Quote:I can answer this. When you're looking to PuG, you acquire badges purely by accident. Many teams will just do radio missions and not story arcs, and hence you miss just about all of the arc specific badges. And if you're playing hardcore mode, you also try to avoid being mezzed and avoid taking damage as much as possible, hence you don't get badges for those. TA helps in that department as well. After my 69 months of playing i can say, yes you do gain alot of strategy. You also gain a distinct knowledge of how many badges you gain from 1-50 playing normal content. I wont call it BS but i would like to know how he was able to avoid so many badges. I can only assume it was mostly radio missions solo.
I can also tell you that he soloed very little on the way up. TA/Archery while a fine set is not the quickest soloer. It would truly be tedious to get to 50 that way. If I recall correctly, it took about 200 some hours to get 50 with Shaftist. No way you get there that quickly (even with better xp scaling) soloing radio missions at low difficulty. Also, note that we did this *before* the current difficulty scheme, so the capability to set number of players didn't exist at that point. -
Ball park: around 400M-500M, assuming you bought most things at max level.
You could probably lop off up to a third of the cost by not buying level 50s and settling for level 35+ (assuming you can find them) and being a bit patient. -
Just so we can end this argument once and for all. I just happened to catch my SG mate and he went ahead and logged on to his laptop to take the following pictures. The first two pictures are of Shaftist badge list. Note: no icons for the debt badges. I realize that if you take debt, there's usually a progress bar on that. Well, he didn't know where it would show up (since he doesn't have the progress bar) so he took the badge list instead.

Now I'm sure the accusation will come that he obviously must have been PL'ed. At this point, I let you make up your own minds about that. -
Quote:Or he could've been PL'ed all the way to 50, etc. It's not as if he made some claim that he did it soloing +2/+8 the whole way. He could have very easily gone +0 or even -1 and easily gotten to 50 with no deaths... it would've taken him forever but whatever lol.
I have no reason to lie about this.*I* didn't accomplish it, but a SG mate did. I started my attempt first and died at level 21 with a TA/Arch Defender and he managed to get to 50. He has no reason to lie about this either because neither of us did it to brag.
We did this for our own satisfaction and as a self challenge. Neither of us thought it was worth bragging about because other players have done similar things before. We went by the honor system. As far as I know he could've joined a AE farm team or gotten PL'ed but knowing his character for all these years, that's extremely doubtful.
The picture I'm posting of the character at 50 is from a private SG forum where he and I chronicled our respective journies.
Just to give you an idea of how far I got. Here's my last journal picture:
-
*shrugs* Don't care if you believe me or not. I'm sorry that your inability to play prevents you of conceiving someone else doing something difficult.
EDIT: Celebratory picture of the character in question when he hit 50. Go ahead and ask him yourself.

Well, you'd just make sure you don't ever go AFK in the arena with an auto power on. There are a few other creative options, but I'll leave that to your brain since you seem creative enough to ask for an exploit by not asking.
Which I really don't see any of that as an exploit. It is frowned upon by the devs, which is why we have the stupid rules on the drops right now, but I'd be shocked if anyone actually asserted that to be an exploit.
Character #1 is a MM. Character #1 summon minions.
Character #2 is a MM. Character #2 doesn't summon minions.
Hero side, you can do it with a fire controller and imps or even a character with a damage aura.
The only tricky thing is find an arena map with a consistent spawn point and then reset the arena every 30 mins. In low population servers, you can go out into an isolated part of SC and have a regen scrapper/stalker be a target and put revive on auto. -
It's easy. It's easier to make influence more than ever (i.e., by killing stuff). Even if there are less players, the average player has more. With more influence, they can pay higher premiums for IOs.
Numbers of players make no difference to this because the ratio of suppliers and buyers remain relatively the same except the buyers can afford to pay more. You can even argue that there's less supply, driving prices, especially purple prices, higher.
This isn't rocket science. -
Plant dom. Seeds would be ridiculous at that level.
-
There's really no equivalent to Superman in this game at all. Some folks point to tankers but as you've noticed Superman does absurd amounts of damage and is virtually impossible to kill.
Inv has invincibility, which is a superb taunt aura. Super strength probably has the closest animations to what Superman would use, but a flying SS/Inv with laser eye beams has been done to death. I'm not trying to wreck your fun here, but I seen so many Superman clones and homages on Virtue that I've lost count. A buffed SS/Inv brute at the fury cap is probably the only way you'll get close to what you want in a Superman in this game (in terms of damage and being hard to kill).
If you want to make a MA/Inv, create your own original concept and go from there. IMO, you'll be happier with your toon. -
I'd do something like this:
Soft capped
207%, 3.58 end/sec recovery
374% regen
No purples, PvP IOs or HOs used
It's not a budget build by any means but far cheaper than a purpling it out. Plus it has a lot of nice extras such as +max end and +run speed.

Quote:No.I just had a name genericized and the name wasnt even that bad.
what about older players who would like to play in a more relaxed way and not have a moderator ban everything?
So I suggest an 18+ server.
thanks
Multiple problems.
1. Age verification
2. Enforcement - who decides what's acceptable? Who keeps out minors?
3. Resources - another server *just* for 18+?
4. Game is marketed for teens, and there are kids who play with adult supervision.
5. There already exist other channels/mediums to engage in "adult" activities if you so choose. Try Second Life if you're into that sort of thing. -
A SG mate of mine got a level 50 TA/Archery Defender PuG'ing all the way to 50 without dying once. After he accomplished that feat, my desire to make a hardcore permadeath character completely disappeared. Largely because I don't think I could equal it.
Good luck with your SG. -
That's a much better build.
A couple of things:
1. Switch the Doctored Wounds Heal/Rech in health to a straight Miracle Heal for the 2.5% recovery bonus.
2. I'd move a slot from combat jumping to tough and slot in a Steadfast Res/End. That will allow you to actually run Tough and get some good resistance instead of just having it as a mule. You'll still be at the soft cap.
Quote:I'd like to have it because when farming, because it's best to sit in the middle of the group to saturate AAO before unleashing AoEs. But it depends on what you farm and how much inspirations you want to leverage. If you don't mind occasionally chewing on a green or purple (and since inspirations drop like rain anyhow) then sure, you don't need to be soft capped. But you already know this.is that 7% defense really worth it when everything is going to be dead so fast anyway?
EDIT: Didn't see the slots in Phalanx Fighting. I'd pull all but the default slot since you can't enhance the self defense portion of it anyways. I'd move a slot to tough, and slot in either another Res/End or a straight Resistance IO (in addition to what I said earlier) and then move the second slot to either health or true grit. In true grit, I'd slot a Regen Tissue proc. -
Quote:Defenders are force multipliers. 8 x Acid Mortars would allow them to distintegrate just about anything. Not to mention the fact that 8 x Force Field Generators would put the whole team at the defense soft cap *and* that 8 x Seeker Drones would mean that the incoming damage would be almost nothing. This thread makes me want to make a static team consisting of either all /Devices blasters or all Traps/ Defenders.
Most of the /Devices Blasters I've played with will lay down 4-5 mines before pulling a group. Now, imagine that everyone on your team drops 4-5 mines. That would be 32-40 mines lying in wait for enemies. My inner pyromaniac is laughing maniacally and howling at the moon just thinking about it.
The Traps/ Defenders wouldn't have anything close to the amount of follow-up damage as /Devices Blasters, but they'd have 8 Force Field Drones, 8 Triage Beacons, 8 Acid Mortars, and 8 Poison Traps to fall back on while opening up with what firepower they do have. If a few of them have Assault Rifles, using Web Grenade and Ignite on 8 enemies will likely take them out of the fight, or even using all of them on one enemy, should it be an EB or AV.

Quote:It's like skipping a stone on water except with bosses. I've had it happen to one boss which was knockbacked from a mine to another trip mine which in turn knocked it back to yet another one. Fun stuff. You can't really control it, but the absolute best moment a Tripminer can have is when one clump of mines blows a boss off his feet and he sails over and lands on another clump of mines. It happens occasionally when you set up several clusters.
Unfortunately it interferes with your DPS, as you spend some time afterward laughing your butt off instead of killing.
AR/Dev isn't the most optimal blaster from any dps standard but that sure doesn't detract from the fun. -
Quote:This is it. I couldn't figure out how you got such impressive numbers without going for so many of the defensive bonuses at 6 slots in so many powers. I look forward to seeing your redone build. The first thing that springs to mind is that without 3 allies in range of PF you have 38% defense which is 7% below the soft cap. Being there is more important to some than others but that really makes a difference when trying see what can be accomplished mid scrapper lock.

Quote:I look forward to harder content as well too. There's a chunk of the player base that avoids anything remotely hard: Arachnos, Longbow, KoA, Malta, Vanguard. I find it funny that these same players blow through the patsies they set up in their AE farm and then complain bitterly when they face Arachnos or similar at farm level difficulties. For better or worse, most people would complain bitterly if foes this challenging were more common. The game has 6 years of history with foes people can take down by facerolling on the keyboard. People who've stuck around for that often like it and fight to keep it mostly the same.
I am expecting some brutality from the new end game content, though. We'll have to see.
With SOs, I think the power levels between mobs and characters were roughly balanced. I think IOs throws the power balance in favor of characters quite a bit. I think level 45+ should be a lot harder than it is. I'd like level 50 to mean something again.
