  1. I don't play EVE. But... what with, for instance, people blowing up Dreadnaughts and whatnot, as reported in this thread, I'm not sure I follow the analogy with Purples.

My point was that you CAN list something at an inflated price and not sell it, and have to relist. If the seller could arbitrarily set a price, that wouldn't have happened.

I don't know if there was an actual Dev quote, but there was a lot of discussion, when the market was new, about how it was designed to raise prices and destroy as much inf as possible.

I believe that the system actually creates far more inf than it destroys, in terms of adding level 50 generic recipes which can be sold for inf. That's not even counting "Oh, there's a REASON to accumulate inf now?" We originally generated, in this game, 3 trillion surplus inf by ACCIDENT.

I'm not going to say that the economy in this game is well-designed. I will say that it has always erred on the side of generosity.
  2. I left an overpriced item up for a long time- I want to say six weeks, but I don't remember exactly- before relisting it once.

"set the price" my left nethercheek.

I just hate trying to build up my nest egg and seeing profit going *poof* because the game needs a money sink

if you find a good enough niche, the fee is small.

To put it another way, if you're losing a lot of profit to the niche you're not making enough money.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
i'd like to see that happen a bit more often in game.

Who was it that gave away ten billion last month?

I hit level 50 again on someone and bought a few million-inf snipe recipes in the mid 20's last week in celebration.

There's always the proverbial Costume Contest In Atlas.
    *shrug*
  5. In theory, Shiver + Chilling Embrace is a lot of -recharge and would work well. In practice, I just don't have the guts to stand around next to badguys like a Tank, and I don't have the melee attacks to be enticed into it with shiny orange numbers.

    The Challenge...

I am a small and petty man. Therefore do I bring this up:

    [ QUOTE ]

-45.6 S/L Defense. That means you're softcapped to S/L. Only 1/20 S/L attacks will land.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    1/20 from an even-con minion.
    1.5/20 from an even-con AV.
  7. I usually bring Force Fields, but that means I usually bring a herd of Blasters as well.

I've only done the STF about five times. Last time we accidentally pulled Mako, Scirocco, AND Ghost Widow. I choose to believe the Force Fields are the reason why that wasn't a problem.
  8. ... how fast DID people get PL'd when you could get XP at -9 to the team leader? I have no idea.
  9. Something to consider: With Invention Enhancements, you can often get 30-60% Endurance Reduction for free.

Give an example of a character with "pretty bad endurance" and maybe we can address the specific problems.

So for sacrificing 14.6% Acc & 20% Dam you get better end consumption and better rech (which increases DPS) plus the global bonuses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At some point your DPS is limited by power activation times, which never go down. So when you cut 20% damage bonus out of a power, you pretty much never get it back.

... of course, you could 6-slot with five Decimations and one, I don't know, Acc/Dam/Rech from Ruin.

STL: Welcome to the cheap-but-effective side of the force.
  11. Picking nits:

Lower level ones are worth more. Sometimes, depending on the IO, higher level ones are priced higher at the market. Stupid but true.
  12. ... although for firetanks, it was kind of a matter of "read the Mephe's Perfect Burn Tank guide, throw down Burn for 300 hours."
  13. I just checked on those rech/res IO's.

They're no longer 7 million to buy and craft, 50 million to sell.

they're THREE million to buy and craft, FORTY million to sell.

So you actually spend more on the Wents fee than you do crafting the thing, on an eight-digit sell price.

Wow. The customer is not always right.
  14. Check nearby level Devastations to get a feel for what it sells for. I know the level 50 D/R is a pretty good seller, but there's a whole problem with the Black Market where nobody buys the lower level stuff, so nobody lists the lower level stuff, and onward and onward it goes.

Have you READ Arcanaville's Guide To Defense? You may change your tune, young master Evan. You may change your tune indeed.
  16. OK, I'm thinking about, every week, posting about the most egregious, profitable niche I see.

    Information wants to be free.

I was going to start off with "Level 40 Impervium Recharge/Resist, blueside", but it is no longer true that the ingredients are 7 million inf and the crafted item is going for 50 million inf. People bought about eight of 'em at that price... not from me. Counting the wentworth's fee, that was a profit margin of 38 million, EACH.

The only problem is, last time I blew a niche I still had something for sale in it and I'm not going to make that mistake again.

    Should I do it?
  17. You did the Deed That Dare Not Speak Its Name, I guess.
  18. Ever wonder why you have someone on /ignore, and hit "quote" to find out?

In this case I'm guessing it was "asking a question and arguing with all the answers."

The devs are fighting a loosing battle here. People are figuring out new and better way to build these maps fast enough to make your head spin. They nerf one and you just move along to the next. They'll have to nerf the system into obscurity to stop the farming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

... I believe that we've established that this is "new and not as good." Unless someone's found a batch of minion Freaks that give boss XP.

    +Regeneration

every +100% Regen is the equivalent of one small green insp every 60 seconds.

So 350% Regen (250% more than base, or 170% more than base + Health) is like base, plus health, plus one green insp every 35 seconds.

Grab a stopwatch, fill your tray with green insps and try it out.
  21. The important things for me are:

    Fireball
    Fire Breath
    Blaze
    Build Up
    Aim
    Shiver
    Ice Patch
    Stamina

    Some sort of knockback IO

If you have all those things the build can't go far wrong.
  22. The main thing about Blasters in my opinion is that the make-or-break is not so much the build as the playstyle. There are a few basics you need: recharge in your AOE's, Stamina, Build Up and Aim (as available), a knockback IO and ideally a stealth IO.

I built a defense-based blaster [smash, lethal, energy] and it didn't really get good at Defense until about level 45. I like my Blasters from level 1 on.

So I say frankenslot and don't worry too much about the final build. I've built for HP/Regen/Damage and it worked pretty well, I've build for Recharge and it worked pretty well, and I've built for Defense and it worked pretty well.

Lemme see if I can put together a "level 34" build on the back of an envelope. The estimated expensive things here are going to be the Stealth and Knockback IO's; a couple of Positron's; one Scirocco; one Obliteration or Eradication. Check this in Mid's.

L1: Fire Blast. 5 slots, all Thunderstrike except the Dam/End .
L2: Fireball. 5 slots. Three Dam/Rech (one from each set), two Acc/Dam (one Detonation, one Air Burst.) If you have spare money you can get the Posi Acc/Dam instead . You're going to be around 9.5 second recharge on this.
L4: Flares. 5 slots (lower priority). I don't use Flares much because I am a dinosaur and the world changed around me. I'd slot either the five Thunderstrikes, or frankenslot with three thunderstrikes (A/D/R, D/E/R, D/R) and a Ruin and a Maelstrom (A/D/R and D/E/R) for 95% recharge. This is one of your "use while mezzed" attacks.
    L6: Swift.
L8: Fire Breath. Slot like Fireball.
L10: Psy Scream. This doesn't need nearly as much recharge to be on the same cycle as your other two AOEs. Four slots- two Acc/Dam, one Dam/Rech, one generic Damage. Buy what's cheap, which is two Detonations and one Air Burst.
L12: Aim. Two slots, generic Recharge.
L14: Health. Two or three Heal slots.
L16: Build Up. Two slots, generic Recharge.
L18: Blaze. Five slots. I'd go for the 95% recharge Frankenslot here, because it's a really good thing.
L20: Stamina, 3 slots, absolutely standard.
L22: Hover. 1-slot with knockback reduction Karma IO. Level 30's are more expensive than any other level, for no reason. Usually level 10-15 is where I get em these days.
L24: Flight. I think it's actually worth it at some point to 2-slot Flight for speed, but you may not have the slots yet.
L26: Dealer's Choice 1. I chose Blazing bolt, because it keeps me from running into the fight ahead of the Tank. And sometimes you do need to pull, or to extract an unpleasant and inconvenient sapper, or whatever. 4 slots. Two Acc/Dam, one Dam, one Dam/Interrupt or something. Two Executioner's Contract and one "whatever"- this is about the only time you may be able to buy set IO's crafted for cheaper than the recipe + ingredients.
L28- Drain Psyche. Two slots- both Acc/Health .Each person you drain is like a Speed Boost worth of End Mod, so unless you go for "crazy nuke recovery build" you'll have plenty of endurance.
L30- Dealer's Choice 2. I picked Assault, no extra slots.
L32: Inferno. You might be able to four-slot this (three Dam/Rech, one Acc/Dam/Rech) but I went for five. Cap Damage, cap Recharge, try and get "half an IO" of accuracy in there. Obliterations and Eradications are still expensive, I think, and the Scirocco Dam/Rech is going to cost, probably. If you have extra money and slots try to get a Scirocco Acc/Dam to go with the Dam/Res, for a tiny amount of extra regen.

Other things: Sprint [or a prestige sprint if you have 'em] should get an Unbounded Leap or Celerity stealth in there.

Go out there and wreck the place.

    The Challenge...

Lack of Skillz? Apparently we're talking about someone who
    1) Played one build, twelve times, to level 50, and
    2) Doesn't know how to [or doesn't choose to] transfer inf.

Not everyone knows how to do everything, but that does seem to be an unusually narrow and deep playstyle.

I refuse for the following reasons:
    * 30% def to all three positionals is missing the point of blasters. Even if it's doable, it's a stupid waste of resources.
    * I don't want to encourage pointless dead-end gameplay.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Okay so the consensus is that in MOST cases, I'll be much better off rolling at 30-35 than at 29-35?

    [/ QUOTE ]

in the words of a wise man, "Wait, what?"

The choices are 25-29 (get recipe at 29), 30-34 (usually get the recipe at 29, unless the set starts at 30) or wait till 32 or 33 and roll at 35-39 (usually getting the recipe at 32 or 33)
