    Help with a idea

Also a moat doesn't have to go around the entire room, just along the wall where the entrance is.

For quite awhile now, I've putting in "Rent Paid on --/--/--" (or whichever way you prefer to list the date) - in the MOTD of my SG's/VG's.

That way when I login to a character, I can look at the MOTD and have a good idea if i need to go pay the Rent or not...

A glance and a rough guess-timate, "ok the date paid was X and lemme see +6 weeks... = well I may need to pay rent in the near future..." OR
"Nope, I still have X amount of time left before I even need to worry about it!"

I don't use the MOTD for much else - all my groups are mine, unless some old RL friend(s) comes back to the game from a LONG break & even then, they'd have probably have to rejoin - I'm 99% sure nobody I know still has alts/toons in any of my groups - I mean they'd be welcome... but they just aren't into CoX.

But they're off playing WoW (a couple of them had a lot of time/effort wrapped up in their guilds or whatever), or possibly something else, or in a couple cases - last I heard they aren't playing ANY subscription-based games... *shrug*

So anywho - I'd recommend trying this & if you do have to /petition it they'll normally fix it PDQ.

I can only think of one time when they didn't - )iirc) it was a year or so ago, during a long Holiday. And a couple of people that were here on the forum - that had horrible luck/timing had to wait a week or so...
Not really the end of the world, unless maybe you only play on 1 server?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure there are a lot of players that do the same thing you do, but I have no doubt that there are just as many that don't and simply wait for the power to shut off or even the base to get locked out before paying rent.
  3. Stand back guys Zek's gonna chop someone up into KrazyManBucky bits with her lightsaber. There won't be enough left to feed her cats.
  4. Just one question.

You don't think it's cool that the NPC's know you are so awesome that one of them figure's, "Aww CRAP! It's Wicked Wendy! Screw you guys, I'm outta here!"

My point is your prior post came across fairly clearly as you thinking they should have been making friends in CoX the entire time they were off playing a different game. In other words, you're being petty and antagonistic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, What's your point? You call it being petty and antagonistic, I call it being sick of the whining and lame excuses.

You think that these people aren't making friends when they are playing other online games? Lord knows nobody playing this game has friends that play other games. And God forbid they send them a "Refer a friend" invite or talk them into starting a trial account when they come back after playing whatever game that they were previously enjoying.

I also know I'm not the only person here who has bought copies of CoH from places like Big Lots and given them to friends as gifts, even time cards when I know they already have an existing account.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Forbin, if they've been away from the game most of their opportunity to continue adding to their friends list would have come while playing whatever other game they found. If they've just come back, they would need to start rebuilding that list because they're right. People migrate away, and sometimes come back and sometimes not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What's your point? If a person plays like a hermit then they deserve to be alone. There are plenty of ways to meet people in this game. You have to work at being alone in this game.

A player would have to choose to use /hide to avoid general searches, change your flag to "Not accepting Invites", and ignore the people that send you tells/invites when your standing next to them in the market or leveling up.

They would also have to ignore all of the dozens of SG's that advertise recruitment. SG's are another great way to meet people.

They would also have to refuse to look on the server forums for people to meet. Gee how hard could that be since they are already on the forums complaining that they can't find teams.

    No Power

It's easy to lose track of time when you have multiple bases. It never hurts to double check rather than assume. I've made that mistake a few times myself. With almost a dozen bases across 4-5 servers it's easy to assume rent was paid on a particular base when it just slipped your mind. Especially when the game doesn't require rents to be due on the same date like the first of each month.
  10. So your saying you didn't allow yourself to make new friends over the years you've been playing. Keeping only to the small circle you knew when you first started playing.

If that's true, you're anti-social and deserve to be alone.

    [ QUOTE ]
So i just return to some of my other bases on other servers since last issue came out mmk....how come none of these bases have any power ???
I meen all the thing's where fine last time around...rent is payed all the stuff is placed in the right room's everything is great exept i have no power for some mysterious reason...is there a base bug i dont know about ?
Strange thing is that two of my other bases on two seperate servers are just fine...and there is not much diffrence in what's in them energy.controll wise so what gives ?
does anyone know whats up ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Power also gets shut off when rent is due just before the lockout.

    Try paying your bases rent.

I am sorry but it REALLY IS that simple. I made a team today and was greeted thankfully. Then the other side of the human drama played out in chat.

TM1: Man it is hard to find a team
    TM2: Yeah
ME: How long you been trying to form a team?
TM2: I HATE have the star lol...
TM1: Me too I hate being leader.
    ME: Okies let's roll.

This happens ALL THE TIME. People are afraid to make a team, be a leader, speak up etc... It is a human fault, IMHO. I have been a leader since I was a kid on the schoolyard so leading a team is NPWSE(No Prob whatsoever), but for most it takes them outta their comfort zone and that IS part of the I can't find a team whining.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah but Darth that doesn't justify their whining. In fact it does just the opposite. If they can't find a team because they aren't making any effort to put one together, then they have absolutely no right to complain.

There's a huge difference between a person whining that he stands around spamming broadcast with LFT messages for hours but never gets any invites, and a guy that's ticked that he can't get a regular mission team together because the people he invites are only interested in AE missions.

Oh and I'm not bashing the MA. You could insert any type of missions in there. TF's, PvP, Co-op, Sewer runs, whatever you like.
  13. Not everyone uses the SK system to PL new characters. Quite often the characters being sk'd are mid level. You can't roll up a level 20-40 character from scratch.

If you don't like the SK system then you can choose not to use it.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
forgive my rashness I have 6 brothers and when someone insults/makes fun/teases/dismisses your ideas/is disrespectful and the like I have learned to just throw it back at them.

When someone uses constructive criticism I usually don't act so rash. Not many people here seem to know how to use constructive criticism. For a brush up on it what it means is before you say something negative you say something positive. Or another way is when you say something negative you give it a positive spin.

Such as instead of saying "learn to search" try "You're not the only that wishes they would add vehicles" (because searches don't always bring up exactly what you want. also not every thread about vehicles is exactly the same. Different people do have different ideas on how it should be implemented, hence why the devs probably don't want to touch it, cause no matter how they did it if they did, people would probably complain that its not how they wanted it. Which sucks.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't worry we have all impulse posted from time to time. I always say I'm far from the perfect poster, and while we may disagree (sometimes vehemently) we can easily find ourselves agreeing on a different topic.

Now Just for clarification, if you go back and read my posts the only time I used the phrase "learn to search" was in a playful jibe at BrokenPrey. It was never said to you. In fact the cut and paste I did provide starts out with the phrase

    [ QUOTE ]
    a tip on searching

    [/ QUOTE ]

    and it ends with

    [ QUOTE ]
Cut and paste provided courtesy of Memphis Bill.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nothing rude or disrespectful in that post. Not even a reminder that the forum rules and guidelines tell us that we are supposed to search first before posting. I didn't even insult you by mentioning the thread How to search first! (Read this BEFORE you post!) which is on the first page of the suggestion forums. If I had been trying to be rude I would have posted something along those lines.

Then in the next post I provided the most current discussion on vehicles that addresses the various issues that would need to be addressed, and an alternative way of introducing vehicles that would be much easier to implement. Again this was a cut and paste made by Memphis Bill. He explained far better than I could so I simply gave it in his own words.

I then was addressing Dementor and didn't respond to your posts until after you started dismissing what the other posters were telling you about the devs comments.

Now let me say I wish the redname comments would automatically be saved by the system because it would save a lot of irritation on both sides of these discussions. We are supposed to be getting new forums eventually and I hope things will work differently there. Right now we are all stuck with the current system. I'm dealing with it, Aett's dealing with it, we all make the best of it. It's one of the reasons some of us are saving cut and pastes for popular topics.

And you are right that not every thread on a given topic is identical, however the game is 5 years old, and in that time we have discussed almost every idea many times. Doing a search first gives the OP a chance to check to see if his idea has been discussed in the past. If it has he might see something that they overlooked and use that to perfect his idea before it goes onto the forum and is subjected to feedback.

WoW has motorcycles?!? That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard about that game... and I have heard some pretty stupid things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yes, they do.

    Motorcycles

and a video of them in action

    Riding motorcycles

But the motorcycles in WoW aren't available to everyone. They are restricted to two groups, then they are further restricted to only being used by level 80 characters.

Another thing to consider is that WoW has 8 million subs and can afford to have a department of programmers dedicated to working of unnecessary QoL's.

And as been mentioned before there's the RP aspect to consider, We are playing super heroes not Car Wars. Feroes with vehicles are few and far between in the Genre. For every hero/villain that uses a custom vehicle there are dozens of examples that don't.

Orcs making motorcycles fits the Ork genre created by Games Workshop. Orks hoardes are replete with all kinds of bizarre vehicles. WoW probably got copyright/trademark permission to use the idea. If they didn't they could be opening themselves up for a major lawsuit.

You can't take the moral high ground on personal attacks when you were the one that called everyone that told you the devs have said that vehicles are just to much work to put into the game, a liar when you said:

    [ QUOTE ]
I've never seen the devs refute the possibility of vehicles to the degree you're suggesting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

You interpret it that way, but that's not what it says. I don't think any of you are lying: I think you all really believe a redname said that, and it is entirely possible that they did, or that they said something simmilar at least. However, I'm currently treating it as hearsay, since nobody can produce a source.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok, with that explanation, I'm willing to apologize for including you in that previous statement. At the time it was the impression I was getting.

The system purges of old threads makes it very frustrating when a request for a link is made. I agree with the other poster that I wish the devs posts were all automatically stickied so we could reference them as needed. So many explanations have been lost.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Also, it is easy to use Wentworth's as a storage bay and I do that often, but it kind of seems to defeat the purpose of the auction house in a way.

I'm not certain why there is no way that they will let us have recipe storage. That doesn't make as much sense to me. Sure, they made salvage storage containers hold less when they eliminated base salvage because base salvage had much more limited uses than invention salvage and the hordes of base salvage that were dumped into the storage containers may have put a strain on things. I wouldn't care if recipe storage was similarly limited in size; that's part of the reason that I suggested three sizes. I'm not overly greedy after all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I have an opinion that is based on a redname statement I read back during I9 beta testing. Sadly the the thread no longer exists, having been purged when I9 went to open beta.

I'm not saying I agree with it, it's just the conclusions I have come to. The redname was talking about how they wanted to minimize hoarding, and the method they chose to use was by limiting the amount of IO salvage and recipes we could hold.

While they allowed us to store recipes in the CH, we have to make a conscious decision about how we want to use the slots. If we use it for storage, we limit the amount of transactions we can do, If we feel making transactions is more important it is balanced by reducing the amount of slots we can use for storage. By this method hoarding is controlled and minimized. We basically have the following options open to us.

    1. Store recipes in the CH slots.
    2. Sell the recipes we don't need right away, either at the CH or an NPC store.
    3. Craft the recipes and store the newly made enhancements in an enhancement table. This choice also helps the economy by removing a little Inf from circulation.

Now I figure that if they ever do give us base storage for recipes it will be a smaller amount than IO salvage. Pessemistically the most I figure we'd see is 10-15.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Problem is, it's a lot harder to get active people you can get a long with in an SG and keep them, Forbin.
I've had my SG base for a long time now and it's taken quite a bit of work to get it where it is generally there's only two regularly active people in the group at any given time, myself, and someone else.

Edit: Though to some extent you CAN just get one other person in your SG/use an alt account and fill the SG with alts... But still...

Besides, bases need more love anyway, if I could dump a few odd suggestions of me own here:
I would like to propose, since we no longer have items of power, that the SG base power and control primary units give an additional effect to SG members. I'm thinking a minor buff to def/tohit for control units and a res/dam for power units.
Starting from first tier they would grant bonuses that start at a 1% buff and go up.
This might encourage SG members to work towards helping their smaller SG grow, but at the same time the small but there buff that maxes at 3% (I'm thinking it should NOT stack for bases that can set down two power and control primary units) makes nothing to be overwhelming.
Also, these buffs would not apply when in a PVP zone or arena map.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First I hope I didn't come across the wrong way, because I really was trying to be helpful.

The impression I got from reading his post was that he wanted to start some solo SG's. Now that's something I've done several times and I'm painfully aware of the difficulties he'll face getting it off the ground. That's why I tried to address what seemed his main concern and offer a few alternatives that are available within the current system.

As to base love, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that would be against imrovements to the bases.

I don't know anything about Guild Wars(played for a month when it first came out), so I just picked something I like from the suggestion. Kinda like the line item veto, but just the opposite.

I saw. That's why I clarified my opinion. I'm not against sending stuff to other characters on the same account, just not how GW does it.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
/signed to being able to email stuff to other characters on your account. I love the idea.

I would like to see account storage like in Guild Wars or at the very least be able to instantly e-mail loot to toons on the same account. I feel this would go a long way to make crafting much less tedious for those who enjoy crafting.

<insert snide comment about e-mail and spammers here>

I've been having a blast these passed 5 years (on and off), keep up the good work!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Guild Wars storage is much smaller than what we can carry in every sense except salvage. However Salvage in that game isn't as valuable in that game as it is here.

Guild Wars Xunlai Vault holds 20 generic slots for the account for each paid expansion in the game, 250 of each crafting material, and 1 million in currency.

So applying this to CoH we'd have 40 generic slots to store enhancements, inspirations, recipes because there are only 2 (CoH and CoV) expansions to this game. We'd only be able to store 1 million Inf. but we'd be able to store 250 of each of the 108 pieces of IO Salvage.

Sorry but I don't see this ever happening.
