Quote:You can try to conceal what we were discussing with all the jibber jabber you want, but the issue you chose to comment on wasn't about whether or not the devs ever reversed themselves on a decision but on the misstatements someone was making to justify his posts.Look I can cut out what I feel like, even stopping mid sentence, as well. Or you could deal with the whole sentence and realize the other 3/4 of it changes what is says completely.
I mean really:

"Personally I think that stating the devs have never ever reversed a decision, outside of a few things you basically then laid out as not really reversing, is kind of a silly thing to say in the long time frame of goodness knows how many changes."
Call me stupid but it almost seems like your posted reply is merit-less if you take into account the full thing rather than cherry pick the words you feel like addressing. Especially if you then don't take it into context to what it was replying too. I mean it's got built in redundancy on that one.

Quote:And yet you are coming off as having your mind already made up and nothing anyone says is going to change it even tho you asked for their input.Your correct project. Having to repeat myself when folks are too busy to actually read the previous post comments is a waste of my time.
Quote:Refering to other games that have successfully implemented an idea, and wanting despirately a thoughtful exchange (Yes, I read posts with an open mind) on the subject, is a waste of my time.
The players didn't make these rules.
Quote:I wish I had saved this person's quote from CoH fourms. It was something like this "Some folks would complain about the seat comfort on a life raft".
Quote:I don't know why it appears that game fourms are so negative. I guess its possible that positive people don't want to waste their time.
End discussion.
Funny you should say that when you specifically asked for people to provide that exact feedback.
Quote:You "ney" sayers prove me wrong, and I'll admit it. If you support this, say so.. Quote:To the original suggestion. Would bonus xp weekends on holidays help or hurt the game? Quote:Back to the question. Holiday bonus play, yes or no, and why? Quote:Back to the question. Holiday bonus play, yes or no, and why? Quote:Back to the question. Holiday bonus play, yes or no, and why?
And now your irritated at us for giving you exactly what were asking for. You know just because you don't like the answers doesn't mean they are wrong.
Anyway don't get discouraged just because people don't support one idea. I look forward to your next suggestion. -
Quote:I may actually go for a public identity. The more public I go, the more public any nefarious plots against me and/or my suit may become. Plus, perhaps I could make some funds through that public persona and be less tempted to grab cash with these abilities.
And the more public your persona the more likely your friends and family will become victims used against you.
And how are you going to defend yourself from the many lawsuits that will crop up over your supposed "negligence" that caused bystanders to be injured or suffer property damage? Cuz you aren't a cop and don't have the city, state, or feds protecting you from those things. -
Quote:Apprehension doesn't put a stop to their activities. Far too often they walk away scott free or they simply use intermediaries to run their operations from inside prison. Not that I dont think there are times when killing is nessecary but this exoskeleton you are wearing pretty much renders you immune to anything any one of those criminals you listed could do to harm you. Where then is the justification in passing a death sentence when you could just as easily apprehend them and put a stop to thier activities?
Death is the only effective rehabilitation that has never failed to stop them from being repeat offenders. -

Quote:1. If you feel like a broken record then you need to ask yourself what it is in your posts that makes people respond that way.I feel like a broken record.
1) As stated, I do not know the country demographics of the game. If CoH has 3 players in another country, CoH has a DxP weekend that awards them extra experiece. How does this hurt them? As I said, Britain may have more players than the US (I keep saying Britain, because the CoH T-Shirt I bought is being sent from England) and it might make a more positive impact. Shocking <gasp> that an American would concede that their is other countries on the planet.
2) I said that 3 holidays, namely Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Day, are not weekends at all. That, with my advanced math skills is 7-3 = 4. If the current formula for CoH weekends is 2, then 4 - 2 = 2. We are talking 2 weekends a year added.
3) I have played more than 1 mmorpg with holidays as a standard xp bonus weekend. In a word, it works.
To summarize. I don't see how bonus xp hurts anyone if it isn't too often and is scheduled to allow more people to enjoy it (or at least know when they are scheduled).
2. DXP weekends ARE NOT ONE DAY EVENTS.
Double XP Weekend have occurred on the following dates:
- July 21, 2006 (ended 07/23/2006)
- January 26, 2007 (ended 01/28/2007)
- June 15, 2007 (ended 06/17/2007)
- February 08, 2008 (ended 02/10/2008)
- July 18, 2008 (ended 07/20/2008)
- January 23, 2009 (ended 01/25/2009)
- July 31, 2009 (ended 08/02/2009)
- October 8, 2009 (ended 10/12/2009)
- March 4, 2010 (ended 3/7/2010)
- January 27, 2011 (ended 1/30/2011)
- August 11, 2011 (scheduled end 8/14/2011)
3. No one cares what happens in other MMO's and you should be careful about constantly making comparison/contrasts because they're against the forum rules and get moderated.
4. DXP weekends are intended to be used as floating events the devs can activate whenever they want. They don't want them fixed to any particular date.
5. Our fixed events are designed to cover multiple holidays because the specific holidays aren't always celebrated at the same time by all the customers. The only season not covered is Summer.
You'd probably have better luck asking for a single permanent DXP event somewhere in the summer months cuz your not going to get half a dozen DXP's added to american holidays. -

I honestly have no idea how every nation and criminal organization on the face of the earth managed to get their hands on blueprints on how to build that Super Suit. Must of been those damn wikileaks. -
Quote:This is more accurate. While I agree with morale being a very real combat modifier, I dont think its based much on religion. Morale issues stem more from being deployed away from family/loved ones, combat and the possibility of a violent death. Sitting at traffic control points for days at a time with a squad, going out for hours on foot patrols with a platoon or even being in firefights, I never witnessed anyone speak about religion or politics or a lot of the other things people think military personnel focus on. Not to say that the base chapel didnt have plenty of people in it during services, but I never had a soldier stress much about any form of religion versus sitting in my hut and crying about missing their kids, wife or parents.
Even then, morale affects every individual differently, not as a mass negative combat multiplier. Some show signs of distress within ten minutes of the plane going wheels up while it may take months for bad morale to affect others. With most, you can trust that their training will take over and keep them driving on. -
Quote:Seeing as how this is suppossed to be at the height of the Roman empire, wouldn't they have to wait awhile for that, not to mention, for all you know, they could find out how right they are.
So in this case, I'd say it's best to leave that bit out.Quote:I thought the Marines were being dropped in around 24 BC - which means they'd have roughly 18 to 19 years before it could be an issue. -
Quote:I see you missed Dark Ones post.Heh. One thing not brought up in this whole scenario: Modern diseases. We carry them and are (largely) immune to them. Throw some marines carrying disease two millenia advanced from the environment, and Rome (if not the world) might be in trouble.
Quote:The food and water thing is a definite possibility. But it also cuts both ways. The Marines wouldn't (probably) be immune to the various bugs and nasties that could be found in the local food supply, because let's face it, hygiene wasn't a very strong suit in that era. The locals would also not have immunity to the bugs that the Marines would invariably carry.
However, tipping point would probably go to the Marine medics and docs as they would have some knowledge on how to go about treating food poisoning and the like. -
Quote:No one ever said the devs never reversed a decision. What was done was people have corrected someones misstatements about what the devs actually said, from what he was interpreting them to mean.Personally I think that stating the devs have never ever reversed a decision
This is no different than someone claiming the devs changed their minds on power customization when they always said it was something they wanted to do but couldn't work on right away because they didn't have the time, money, or resources to assign to the project. -
Going Rogue is still on sale at Amazon, and digitally at Direct2Drive.
-
So three DXP weekends in less than a month? That's insanely too many, not to mention it doesn't take into consideration that many of our players don't celebrate american holidays.
-
Not having Incarnate stuff hasn't stopped me from enjoying the game. As for the OP, he has my sympathy. It sounds like he has the rotten luck to attract idiots. He isn't the first person to have this problem. Our friend Psychoti from the Rude Tells thread is another lightning rod for obnoxious morons.

Quote:Only problem with that is that corporations would rather outsource those jobs to countries where they can pay 5 cents an hour.Rather than structure our hypothetical New Society on low tech to ensure that certain jobs are never made obsolete, we'd be better off investing in vocational schools that teach people how to work in the newly created professions that technological advances create.

Ah. Sorry then I thought it was all directed at me.
-
I just love your revisionist version of CoH history.
-
That's Navy medics and docs. The Marines don't have any medical personnel. They are all USN assigned to the Fleet Marines.

In Freedom all subscribers have access to Going Rogue.

Quote:The devs never said "No" to unslotting enhancements, What they said "No" to was players on their tricked out 50's using a single respec to unslot every enhancement at once. Even with the additional enhancement trays you can't strip a 50 of all it's enhancements. As far as I'm aware the only decisions the devs have really "reversed" on have been:
Unslotting enhancements
Now in I21
Quote:Extra enhancement trays
Now in I21
Quote:power-set respecs
Not planned, takes a lot of work, but no longer a flat no.
Quote:Fear on Burn
Took long enough.
Quote:Outside of this rather small list I'm not really aware of any other game design direction / decisions that the Devs have given a flat no to, or said they were not going to do.
For the most part pretty much every other time the devs have said "no" to something it's been a case of lack of resources, such as Power Customization
Obviously you can't get rid of Stamina altogether without completely redsigning how powers work. So making it inherent was the easier task. -
Quote:I find this amusing because Durakken has another thread where he's wondering if a single average person could create a modern civilization from scratch but he's doubting the capabilities of a highly trained and motivated MEU and what they could accomplish.Let's try to settle this with a little bit of "role play"
Helicopter is likely the largest vehicle going through right? so how much clearance would a helicopter need and how low to the ground could it be... that gives us a "portal size"
Does the portal make noise? where is it located? is it visible?
I would say that even if the portal doesn't make noise any machine coming through will make noise...
I would say if they could place the portal it would be slightly north of Medolanum on this map http://resourcesforhistoryteachers.w...ire_1_A.d..jpg
So... the portal opens the Marines start coming through... What happens?
Well the first this is likely some people would see what's going on and within a little bit of time a messenger would be sent to the closest Legion. That legion would like react and meet at Medolanum...
If i remember a legion can march like 30 miles in a day...
So at this point is a legion close enough to set up by the time the Marines are ready to do anything
How would the Romans and Marines act? Also would the Marines start off with the goal of taking over an holding or would they be peaceful at first and who would act first?
The thing I don't get is what is the Marines motivation for attacking the Romans? They have the advantage of future knowledge. They can easily set up shop somewhere isolated (like North America) and train and educate the locals with their superior knowledge of science and technology. -
Edit: Nevermind, Steelclaw said it better, except he forgot about using the knowledge the Marines bring from the future to educate the locals and improve their science and technology.
A typical MEU has approximately 2,200 Marines and sailors. It is equipped with:
4 M1A1 main battle tank
16 Light Armored Vehicle
15 Amphibious Assault Vehicle
6 155mm howitzer: M198 or M777
8 M252 81mm mortar
8 BGM-71 Tube Launched, Optically Tracked, Wire Guided (TOW) missile weapon system
8 FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile
6 AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopters
3 UH-1N Twin Huey utility helicopter
12 CH-46E Sea Knight medium lift assault helicopter
4 CH-53E Super Stallion heavy lift assault helicopter
6 AV-8B Harrier jet
2 KC-130 Hercules re-fueler/transport aircraft
2 Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit
1 LMT 3000 water purification unit
4 Tractor, Rubber Tire, Articulated Steering
2 TX51-19M Rough Terrain Forklift
3 D7 bulldozer
1 Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement dump truck
4 Mk48 Logistics Vehicle System
7 500 gallon water containers
63 Humvee
30 Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement trucks
A standard USMC MEU would have little trouble reshaping the history of the world if they were dropped back in time 2,000 years. -
Quote:Right. I forgot that the kit was a physical item with the code included. My bad for not having a perfect memory. The Hero Gear Kit was simply the CoH DVD edition without the box (collector's edition, but it wasn't called that, it was called City of Heroes DVD Edition, because the original CoH was on CD(s)).
It wasn't anything special. They had a bunch of DVD editions and cannibalized them. They were first sold at meetups and given away as contest prizes, then sold on the NCsoft store (that's where I got mine) until they sold out. -
It wasn't that long ago we regularly had servers grayed out during Double XP weekends and the "One Server, all else is Sin" fanatics spent their weekends raging on the forums because they couldn't log on to a particular server and refused to simply play on another. And god forbid they get put in a queue and wait to get on.
-
Quote:I never said anything about giving them away for free Bill. I said I had no objection if they changed their minds and made them available again. As in making the Hero Gear Kit available for sale again.OK, time to clear this up:
*NO* item that was released as part of a specific edition has been "released" for free. ONLY items that were released as part of preorders - which you did not pay more for - were. (The four preorder sprints and the helmets.)
The devs have (properly) stated that they *will not* release things people paid (sometimes extra) for (the collectors edition items, essentially) for free. They never said anything about releasing packs that others *would* pay for. And they never guaranteed they wouldn't release the preorder items to everyone else - in fact, when we were getting COV preorders, they told us to expect it later.
Prestige Power Slide was not part of a preorder. It and the Cape of Four Winds were part of the COH CE release (and later the Hero Gear kit.) It will not be given away free.
I have no argument with them releasing, and charging for, the items, much like they did for the GvE items, Mac Pack items, etc. Yes, even though I paid for them when they came out.
My only error was in using the term digital. I forgot the Hero Gear Kit that was sold on the PlayNC online store was a physical item that was mailed to the customer and included a code to unlock the ingame items.
