I do not enjoy playing the market, and I am not disputing anthing you "experts" are saying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunatly, playing the market is part of the game, and the Dev's do it as well. I believe it was Ex Libris who said that playing the market adds dynamics into the game. It was the reason she gave as to why not to merge markets, and it fits quite nicely into why not to add a price cap into the market. That and supply on many items would be zero, and I would start selling my purple recipes for 400mil via posts on the market forums -
[ QUOTE ]
So after issue 16 hits, supply goes up, purple prices go down. Won't the marketeers just buy low and hold them untill prices go back up, then sell?
[/ QUOTE ]
This is actually a very good tactic which I did with several stacks of doctored wounds heal/rech. When prices were 500k to buy the recipes, I bought 50 recipes on various toons, and just sat on them to see if prices would ever go up. I sat on them for almost a year. They are now selling for 10mil a piece so I sold them all.
The thing with that is, when I bought 50 recipes for 500k, whoever bought the 51st recipe still payed 500k. So while I sat on these recipes, it didn't cause an inflation in the market. What caused the inflation occured a year later. -

We agree that lack of supply is the main culprit, but even when supply of purples goes back up, the supply will remain low enough that it is easy to completely control the price by buying everyone that hits the market IF you are an evil marketeer with billions saved up. When there is only one or two of something listed per month, there is always going to be someone out of the thousands that play this game that is willing to pay it...even if it means buying inf from a .com, which is even worse for the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
One or two of something a month??
What?
[/ QUOTE ]
Some purples and the new PvP IOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
PvP IO's on the other hand are prime targets for flipping. I bought 10 recipes a month or so ago at 30mil a piece, and resold them all for 120mil. Anything with PvP tends to sell well. I used to flip Unstable Rad Pistols back in the day. I haven't had much luck with them recently though. I've had a few bids out on the expensive ones for 30mil, and haven't had any luck in a few weeks. -
[ QUOTE ]
Seriously? You want me to write professors about a video game? I'll pass.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you don't take your suggestion seriously, nobody else will. I doubt your sugestion (which should be in the suggestion forums) will never happen either.
[ QUOTE ]
Look, I'm sure you know alot more about economics than me, but this isn't as complicated as real world economics. I'm sure you know what you talking about with the whole
Equilibrium Price thing, but I don't think it has jack to do with this situation.
[/ QUOTE ]
So your saying equilibrium price doesn't exist on our market?
[ QUOTE ]
I'm talking about purple recipes that are so rare you only have to buy 5 or 6 a month to control them.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've checked the purple recipes, and at the moment, there isn't much variation in the prices. If a recipe sells for 100mil, it sells for 100mil. Look at some of the basilisks gaze as an example of things that might be getting flipped. At the moment, purple recipes are at a constant selling price of 100-120 mil. Trying to flip a recipe that you pay 100mil and resell for 120mil would never be done my marketeers because it's dumb.

As smurphy explained, that will only last for so long. The persons stock will eventually exceed it's limits and be forced to sell at lower prices.
[ QUOTE ]
When there is only one or two of something listed per month,
[/ QUOTE ]
Bingo! If there's only one or two of something listed per month that is in as high demand as purple drops are, and with all the influence in our little economy, they are going to sell for 200mil+.
This will be solved once we are able to set our own spawn sizes. I will be farming for purples heavily once the new issue goes live to try and cash in on high prices while they last.
Your issue as I've read so far is that you are assuming that people are suppling you with opinion when it is actually factual. Just because you don't know 2 times 2 equals 4 doesn't mean that it's no someone elses opinion. Facts are facts even if you don't know them. -

Ebil manipulators do NOT cause prices to rise above where Supply and Demand dictate the prices would go.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL...ok.
[/ QUOTE ]
It hurts when your wrong doesn't it ... -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps your getting so worked up becuae you realize a price cap would ruin the market manipulators because the only way to make money off the market would be to go out and earn drops rather than use your vast amounts on Inf to push up prices for everyone else.
[/ QUOTE ]
I ran the ITF the other night and got an Armegeddon. I listed it for 200mil. I didn't flip it. I listed it for 200 mil because 150 people were bidding, and there were NONE selling. Flipping isn't raising prices, high demand and low supply is. -

This really isn't such a bad idea as everyone seems to be making it out to be. If you think about it, we already have the potential to do what the OP is suggesting. We can add an ally in a mission that isn't surrounded by enemies located in the front of a map on MA. My personal favorite ally is an Ill/Emp or Ill/Kin, but you can make anything you want really. Keep in mind it will detract from any xp and rewards, but it is an effective crutch to missions.
What I'm getting from this suggestion is to create a place where you can hire bodyguards to follow you around for influence. I've played in a few MMO's where you are able to do this, the first one that comes to mind is Ultima Online. Since you can already do this in missions, I don't see why it would be bad to have it while your in the streets. Any type of bodyguard you hire could use templates from MA.
The only complication I could see with something like this is making your bodyguard zone in and out of missions with you. -

I once got 5 million for a large green inspiration. I just assumed it was a random act of kindness.
[/ QUOTE ]
Several players use the market to do their RAK's these days.
The influence beggars pretty much killed off players randomly giving stuff out to people. The market lets the players indulge their generosity while at the same time maintaining their anonymity.
You can give away hundreds of millions and never have some greedy little jackhole follow you around pestering you with tells demanding more free stuff.
[/ QUOTE ] This. When I'm feeling generous I use the market. I bought some common salvage for 4 million recently. Last time I gave a random lowbie influence he decided to friend me and beg for influence whenever we were both on.

DON'T FEED THE ANIMALS! -
So has anyone figured out how to fight these? I'm lost on any type of group configuration that would even remotly be able to fight these. I've tried with my FF defender, but the blue mito's endurance drain attacks are unresistable. The yellows damage is unresistable and all the do is AoE attacks, and the area they hit is huge. I've tried 3 different group configurations, and each one wipes in the first 20 seconds on the first group.
It's probably easier to fight a spawn of only giant monsters than these things. -

I've been for this change in the past, and I still am. -
Here's a simple suggestion.
Please allow anyone to exchange inf to prestige in an SG. Currently, only people allowed to modify the base can exchange influence for prestige. Why does someone need base editing permission to buy prestige? -
[ QUOTE ]
Don't start with the Obtuse thing again, Folonious.
Rikti Comm Officers, Hami Mito (Green), Cimeroran Surgeons, probably others... When exploits are found they're usually used by only a handful of people. We haven't seen a massive WAVE of exploits like this last batch since before ED.
Think of it as scales of 1 to 10. Is the risk you're taking a 1? Then the rewards shouldn't be more than 2 or 3. Maybe 4.
But if you've got a 0 risk and you're getting a reward of 10, then you're an idiot if you don't realize it's an exploit.
-Rachel-
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not being obtuse, I'm giving you the mitos and maybe even the comm officers as obvious. What I'm talking about are the not so obvious such as Nemesis LT's or civilians who have mass hypnosis and tranq darts used as allies. There's other small things like that that can be added. At least a dozen.
On a side note, you can also have Will of the Earth as a rescue ally. It doesn't do anything, but it's funny to watch a crystal follow you around.
Edit: never saw the surgeons, but I can imagine how it worked. -

[ QUOTE ]
Honestly? Great idea on multiple levels.
I was originally opposed to it. But after the whole Rikti Farms/Bubble Farms fiasco...
A Single player finds an exploit. He knows that if he spreads word of it, the Devs will shut it down. So instead of filling teams with noobs to farm the exploit, he instead solos it on an "8-man" team.
Noone else finds out about it. It doesn't hit broadcast, and the Exploit doesn't spill out into the general populace for the super-leveling BS we'd been seeing before.
Then the Devs datamine the people that use the feature almost exclusively and solo, play through their MA missions looking for exploits, and if they find them CLICK! Locked mission and nerfed character.
Awesome.
-Rachel-
[/ QUOTE ] Rachel, we are starting to agree on stuff too much. It's weird.
[/ QUOTE ]
I still want to know what an exploit is, other than the obvious bubbles. Are Nemesis LT's exploits? -
[ QUOTE ]
I love the idea. Unfortunately it will never happen. I hope you are ready for the amount of negative responses your about to get too

alt is a known troll. He's pretty much best ignored.
He's honestly the main one behind the anti-farm, veteran "elite" and I swear he does it just to rile people.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think the anti-farming group has a response to this. It's something that farmers have been asking for for a very long time, and this is the only response the anti-farmers have to offer. -
[ QUOTE ]
In I16, you will be able to set your AE mission to spawn as if you had a full team of 8
[/ QUOTE ]
I have been asking for this since I9. Where did you hear this from? -
[ QUOTE ]
Why in the world would anybody bother to farm in Beta? A farmer would try a few things out, find possible exploits, and then save those techniques for live.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? That's not what I would do.
If something is broken, I'll report it. Then farm the heck out of it till they fix it. I've never been in a closed beta, but then again, I've never been in an open beta for Co* either. Unless they offer free game time to testers, I see no point in beta testing. Let the QC guys getting paid find the bugs.
I do that in live, and I see no reason why I shouldn't do it in test if I ever get invited to one. -
It's been suggested before. I'm a farmer, but I think I'll let all the story writers argue this one with you.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Does it really need it?
Jeebus, you can take a shower, PL some, grab some food, PL some, get drunk and then finally hit level 50, and all that is done in less then 5 hours.
I really don't think the AE system needs DoubleXP. And I honestly hope it doesn't get it. I would much rather see mainstream content get the DoubleXP that way it may entice people to run content now rather then the AE junk.
We need some serious help in the Market when it comes to recipes, and hopfully running real content will fill the markets for a little bit.
[/ QUOTE ]
If this happens, I'm so going to make a post "Regular Content has killed the game!" just cause. -
While I agree that blackstar is probably skippable based on what you have said thus far, I think it's skippable mainly because the power is to situational, not because it doesn't deal enough damage. With enough +Acc sets, and a acc/to hit debuff set, it would be able to hit +4's without to much problem, but it's not a power I'd be using every group. Maybe only against groups which have an AV or EB.
Using this power as a situational power, you won't need to worry about slotting it for recharge, or damage. It would only need accuracy and to hit debuff. Combined with power build up shields, it would be just as effective as having your toggles running. I do think that blackstar would work better with other primaries though which don't relie on toggles as much. I could see a TA/dark taking blackstar.
I just don't see the need for a powerful to hit debuff like that of a FF/Dark when I have several AoE debuff attacks which should be enough to create a decent synergy between soft capped defense and -tohit. -

well sir i do apologize for having an opinion. if the forums allowed me to edit my post at this point id gladly like to put up a warning. something along the lines of
"warning: this is all opinion. some people cant grasp the idea that not all conversations revolve around cold hard facts. so take notice this is opinion".
[/ QUOTE ]
Or you could use phrases like, "in my opinion", "I think", "my impression is", "it appears to me", and so on.
Basically, if it's just an opinion, frame it as such. Don't expect other people to be mind readers. Seems to me the problem isn't their grasp, it's your delivery.

I'm not going to read this whole thread, but if you are paying over 600mil for a purple set your crazy. The prices will eventually come down, because that little bit of extra accuracy or recharge really isn't worth 600 million ...
I have a blaster with soft capped ranged defense, and 170% global recharge, about 1 second shy from having perma hasten. I have some purple sets, but these are the cheaper purple sets such as sleep or stun. If I were to get the Armageddon and the Ragnarok sets, it would give me an extra 6% recharge roughly, and cost me over 1.2 billion. To me, 6% recharge is not worth 1.2 billion.
My suggestion to everyone is if you don't want to spend 600mil+ on a single set, use mids, and plan your build so you can slot purples from the cheaper purple sets - holds, stuns, and sleep. You can make due with 6.25 - 7.5 set recharges and the 7.5 global recharge from LoTG. I was able to get 5 of those for 60mil a piece.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've got 600M+ Inf. I want IOs. Why not spend it? What would be a better alternative for my Inf? Answer to your response: I've already spent money there.
[/ QUOTE ]
For me, with leveling as quick as it is nowadays, I just pass it off to my next toon to IO out ... I'm able to make builds with perma haste with about 1bil using the cheaper purple sets.
I don't tend to horde influence much. I usually have costume contests with 100mil prizes to make all the noobs go "ooooh .... aaaah" cause I get a kick out of it. I also use it to boost prestige. You can either spend 500mil and get 2 expensive purple IO's, or 1mil prestige. I'd rather the prestige personally.
I'm a casual player, and I make 100mil in about an hour of game play thanks to AE. I'll admit it's getting harder and harder to spend it quicker than I'm making it even as a casual player, so for a player like you smurph or any other players who are good at finding niches and/or play a lot, I can understand where you are coming from in saying there's nothing else to spend it on. -
