Actually... I'd liken them to another Japanese game show.

Spot the resemblence? -
Easy. Dump ALL the new currencies and salvage garbage brought in for the Incarnate system, and convert everything over to "Incarnate XP" that you earn to gradually unlock your next slot (you get to nominate which slot you want to earn it for).
Simplify the entire stupidly over complicated system that's taken a pick up and play MMO, and turned it into a number crunching borefest that's almost as interesting to play as EVE. -
That's a more general problem the devs are already looking at, than anything specifically to do with Vista.
-
^ Hey, if it made the game less boring, I'm all for that!
-
I remember the happy days, when CoH was a pick up and play game. Now, you need to sit down with a bloody spreadsheet and spend hours doing utterly boring carp, just so you can keep pace.
Well done devs, you made the game dull.. *slow clap* -
Quote:^ This. Very very VERY bad idea. Don't FrankenPatch. That way lies reisntalling Windows.Mixing core system dlls from different versions of windows is a surefire way to cause instability and compatibility issues with your machine. Not to mention that it will probably break future patching, or at least itself break if you apply patches in the future.

You'd be wrong then. No background downloading here, I don't allow the launcher to run in the background. All 313MB was downloaded and patched in under a minute. Maybe it's your ISP, because it isn't the launcher.
-
Sounds like the patch server might be having problems serving files.. There's probably a LOT of folks trying to patch now.
Best I can suggest is to keep trying... Not helpful I know, but it DOES work... -
It's the usual post-issue teething problems. I usually don't bother too much about missions for a day or two after a new issue. History proves that to be a wise choice.
-
I'm not being a jerk, though people seem to be getting that impression. I was just warning folks that you're going to need to update to SP3.
Excuse me for trying to help, sheesh. -
Yeah, that's the web installer. If you search MS's site, you should easily find the full installer rather than the web one. It's likely that you had a corrupt file in the download last time.
-
^ Have you also installed all the post-SP3 patches? SP3 is 3 years old, so there's a fair number of other fixes etc that'll become available once you've patched.
-
Sorry, but you will need SP3 to be able to play.
Did you use the web installer for SP3 last time? If so, I suggest downloading the complete package and installing from a CD or the ISO. -
Quote:If they're not going to update, then they're not fellow players any more. That's a choice they're making. You can't expect the devs to continue to support obsolete OS's forever.its the same people going into every thread on this issue and saying 'update, its no problem' or 'why didn't you update, blah blah blah?'.
again, realize that not everyone can or wants to upgrade to SP3 and these type of high horse comments don't help. you're just alienating your fellow, subscription paying players. -
I get completely the opposite. The NC Launcher can max out my 50mbit line, and patching is a hell of a lot faster. I20 was downloaded and patched in less than a minute.
-
Quote:So you basically tellingme i cant play this game anymore? because of the ncsoft launcher adjustments? wtf kinda crap is that? The games been running just fine without spk3, shoot i dont even have sp2. and the game was running fine. Microcrap (microsoft, IS WAK). I just paid for 3 months of this game and now i cant play? really? REAAALLY?! youve got to be kidding me.
So update. It's hardly the end of the world you know. -
You should probably quickly raise a support ticking in-game for that. You'll get it looked at quicker.
-
I love how you guys keep making stuff up that I've apparently said.
I guess the old adage is true. People really WILL complain about anything, even when someone's offering helpful advice. -

If you're still using XP service pack 2, time to ante-up and install SP3. I'm afraid that attempting to load CoH after the I20 path will result in the following error:
the procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll
Sorry folks, but hey... SP3 came out 3 years ago, and SP2 went out support last July, so why are you still using it anyway? -
Quote:I've never read such a load of tosh in my entire life... You got proof of those numbers? To this day, SP3 bugs on install roughly 50% of the time. An issue that Microsoft is well aware of but has largely ignored. Many people have avoided SP3 for the very reason that half the time installing it bugs Windows to a point where either rollback or complete system re-install is required.
Updating anything that has the Microsoft logo on it is reckless at best.
