    In any case, bases were going to be one of the major focal points of I13, but two things happened: One was the Mission Architect, the other was PVP.

    Mission Architect ended up being a much larger project than anticipated; the underlying systems used in our mission editor simply wasn't up to the standard needed for a released editor. This meant the engineering staff spent a far greater amount of time working on it than originally anticipated. The end results are great, but it meant that the other things they were meant to work on suffered. Bases are a large part of this.

    The other part is PVP and the evolution that is taking place there. Internal work on the Bases were proceeding nicely, right up until the first Base vs. Base Raid playtest. The experience was not a good one, and that made everyone take a step back and re-evaluate what we were doing with Base Raids, the Cathedral and PVP in general. We determined we needed to spend time on a PVP revamp before finishing bases, so that meaningful base raids could be a possibility when we finished the changes.

  2. There is some redname discussion about it on the US forums. Basically, apart from the repricing, the planned changes for bases have been pushed back due to the programmers having spent more time than initially intended on the Architect feature. No word yet on if those changes will now make it to i14, or possibly i15.
  3. 3 times so far, I've logged in and been almost clobbered, thanks to lag making my logins slower than usual. Neither of those locations were commonly populated areas. In fact, if I log off in Galaxy City (neither of these times WERE in Galaxy), I ususally do it over by the base portal.

    Oh, and I've had a couple of brown trousers moments when coming out of a mission, face first into a bunch of ToTers and a massive spawn at +8 to me. Much ow.

    Now, I'm not saying I hate the event. It's been fun and such; I'm just looking forward to a return to normality!

  6. Nice written, Gid! An interesting twist on the "getting superpowers after a near death experience" cliché!

    It's well paced, I really like the Mac character, and it wasn't the remotest bit confusing at any point.

    Wait, if Nemesis a prince, and there's Arthur in the story who is like a prince and a wizard called Merlin who helps him, surely that means that Nemesis is Arthur and he took a Nemesis Staff out of the stone, therefore making him KING Nemesis?

    You'll have to go places when Day Jobs are implemented (unless of course that doesn't interest you) so see this as practice for I13 .

    There are plenty of safe areas in each zone to log out in - the parking garage in Brickstown, tunnels in Atlas, Steel and Talos, under bridges in Founders' Falls, inside shops - and of course inside train stations.

    The costumes you get as treats when trick or treating, and take the form of temp powers. Drop rate for these is random. Not sure as to the quantity needed offhand, but I'm sure someone will be along with the answer momentarily.

  20. Well... Kind of, yes. The Nova form is really there for your high level ranged damage, and the Dwarf form, as well as being your tankform, is ALSO your Mez protection. Once i13 comes out, you'll find those forms FAR more useful as well, especially in teams, as your toggles won't get dropped anymore.

    We're getting a base level damage increase with i13 too, which will also help considerably.

    I think you'll find that the game can't tell the difference. A teleport power is a teleport power, and therefore will be interrupted.

    Phantoms, PLEASE don't take this as anything but constructive criticism, OK? I'm NOT trying to get at you, or put you down, or anything. I just want to try to help you become a better writer.

    OK, that said, I have to ask... Have you actually sat down and read this yourself? I have a feeling that what you've actually written doesn't bear much resemblance to what you're trying to get across. Sorry, but the whole thing is very disjointed, confusing, and well... Just not particularly intelligible to the reader.

    At the end of part 1, we go from a drip of this chemical on your characters foot (I'm presuming he's wearing shoes), to at the start of part 2 with him being terrified of what happened. How is a drop of some chemical scary? You said that he didn't know what it would do, presumably nothing as it landed on his shoe rather than his skin, so why is he terrified?

    The bit with William's death doesn't make much sense either, and the part at the end with the hero... How does Alex know this hero's name? Why would he be watching some nondescript researcher who had just spilled a drop of some new chemical on his shoe? What DID the chemical do? And who, really, ever talks like your hero does?

    Again, I'm really sorry, but whilst the story you have in your head for this very likely works well, as you imagine it; when written down it just doesn't come across in any legible manner at all. As it stands, the only thing I'm left with after reading it is... confusion. I really just don't have a clue what's going on.

    A few suggestions I'd like you to consider before continuing:

    1. Get yourself a proof reader. Preferably someone with some experience in writing if you can, and most importantly, someone who will be HONEST with you. Without honest criticism, you will never improve.
    2. You've clearly left large periods of time between writing each part, and haven't reviewed what you've written already before doing so; this makes the whole thing even more disjointed and hard to read. It's better to either write the whole thing in one sitting, and perhaps posting it a bit at a time, but finish it first; OR, make sure you properly review what you've already written before continuing.
    3. Read it to yourself before posting; several times, and carefully. Don't presume that what you've actually typed is exactly what you had in your mind. Personally, I go through my stories several times, AND get them proof read, before I post them.
    4. Do some reading of other peoples works in here. Look at how they construct sentences and paragraphs. Take note that when dialog is present, it's not presented in some disjointed manner, as if the speaker doesn't actually understand the language they're using, but flows naturally just like how people speak in real life.
