    Healing substracts from incoming DPS
    Mitigation divides incoming DPS.

[/ QUOTE ]This was a very good post, and seems to have gone largely ignored in this thread. Starsman has pointed out exactly the difference between healing and all other forms of mitigation, and in the vast majority of cases, that difference makes healing the poorest of choices for stopping damage. However, healing combined with other forms of mitigation (or, in fact, any number of different types of mitigation combined) multiplies the effectiveness.

Since everyone gets natural regen and may get green inspirations from defeating enemies, a dedicated "healer" is far from necessary on a team with a few buffers or debuffers. On a well-built team, the "healer" will likely stop more damage by using attacks to speed the killing than by healing. Death is the ultimate debuff

Hey Bill sorry if this is a noob question, what do you mean by canel your sub?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really hope there is more to your unsubbing Billz then what was not contained in Issue 15, cause that would be lame.

[/ QUOTE ]BillZ unsubscribes and resubscribes constantly. It's his thing

Doesn't stop people from leaving it on Auto at the markets

Or PSW *scowls at the nearest Dominator*

[/ QUOTE ]It's hard to be more annoying than a duo of Thermal corr spamming Warmth with a Kin corr spamming SB on the Thermal. At the Cap Au Diable BM. On Freedom.

The fact that both disappeared without a logout countdown says something, I think.
  4. Unless you're craving set bonuses and have the slots to spare, neither the rez nor CM need any but the base slot.

I believe Hero 1 wrote most of the older mission arcs, IIRC.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hero 1 started working for Cryptic as Issue 9 was being prepared. The mission in question debuted in Issue 2.

[/ QUOTE ]I could've sworn Hero 1 was working for Cryptic for some time before taking the lead writer position...
  6. What Fuz said. [Shivan] is a shapeshift power that's not available in the game. [Shivan Shard] is a summon power obtained in Bloody Bay.

Macs are not magically immune to viruses.

[/ QUOTE ]I can't quote this hard enough. It's really annoyed me with the recent PC vs. Mac ads where someone asks for a virus-free computer and are given no option but the Mac. Grah! Mac does not mean virus free! PC does not mean virus-ridden! >

Anyway, to address the thread at hand: simply being connected to the internet could "theoretically" get you a virus. The likelihood of that actually happening is abysmally low. As in, you're more likely to win the lottery, get struck by lightning, and find your long-lost half sister in the same day before it happens randomly like that.

Viruses get spread when you download and run them yourself (sometimes pretending to be something else, sometimes just because you have no idea how to keep your computer clean), or they're download and run by another program already on your computer (specifically, another virus). Since the two programs used by CoH (the updater, and the game client itself) are not malicious, they won't be downloading or running any viruses, and your chances for getting a virus while playing are, again, abysmally low.

Menu->Options-> tab-> Controls Tab-> Mouse Section -> Mouse Scroll speed

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have it on "20" where the value turns green. I guess that's supposed to be the regular scroll speed.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes. When the feature was first introduced, characters were defaulting to 1 (veeeeeery slow scrolling), but the value turns green (the normal color for "default") at 20. I think new characters now default to 20.

... can pick up to the third tier in one of the four travel power pools at level 6 with no prerequisite.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The travel power is the second tier. The first two powers are both first tier.

Note: You still must have two powers from the pool in order to pick the third tier power (Acrobatics, Vengeance, etc.).

    [/ QUOTE ](re-fixed original quote)

Common convention labels them as "first power in the set, tier 1. second power in the set, tier 2. third power in the set, tier 3. fourth power in the set, tier 4." So Super Jump is tier 3; Acrobatics is tier 4.

This is the same as with primary powersets, where the Tier 1 and Tier 2 powers are both selectable at level 1.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, but common sense would have us instead calling them Tier 1 for both the first and second power, as we can choose either before choosing anything afterwords.

[/ QUOTE ]So what tier is Punch? Tier 1 or Tier 2? Is Dawn Strike T8 or T14? Or maybe it's T9, because it's a nuke? Due to variations between AT and the 60mo vet reward, it's far simpler and less confusing to name the tiers based on the ordering of the powers, rather than the level the powers become available.
  10. The only mission-realted badge you can't get from Ouroboros is Efficiency Expert (given by Efficiency Expert Pither in Grandville). Partially because you're only supposed to get one shot at the badge, partially because the badge isn't given for any single mission, but rather for completing all of Pither's timed missions (which are not connected in any way except to count for the badge).
  11. Yes, you're supposed to run, not fight. They're intentionally difficult. As jwbullfrog said, an Ouroboros Portal is probably the easiest way to finish it if you're over level 25.

I think the last time I beat them was with a Thugs/Dark MM and AR/Traps Corr duo.
  12. The cheapest enhancements would be common IOs, and you could probably fill your slots with them with 81M and have cash left over.

However, I assume you mean set enhancements, which is a more complicated question. In general, sets with great set bonuses (such as Crushing Impact) or extremely useful IOs (such as Steadfast Protection) will be expensive. Level 50 IOs will generally be more expensive than level 30 ones, and sets that go up to 40 or 50 will be more expensive than those that max out at 30 or 35.

The cheapest set IO outfitting you can do would be to buy cheap IOs from cheap sets and Frankenslot them. I recommend getting Mids' Hero Designer to plan out what IOs you want to get.

Hidden is actually a flag for all three ATs that get it, that activate secondary damage (Yes, even in SoAs) when the target's in that state. And is also technically granted by Placate, though iirc that's bugged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah. Then perhaps just a higher stealth radius on these powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]Superior Invisibility: 200ft PvE/1000ft PvP
    Hide: 150ft PvE/500ft PvP
    Group Invisibility: 60ft PvE/667ft PvP

Controller stealth cap: 200ft PvE/571.5ft PvP

    AV perception: 54ft
    GM perception: 100ft
    Sniper perception: 149ft

The other powers you mention are standard for stealth powers (35ft PvE/389ft PvP).
  14. I haven't noticed Fluffy saying he accepts RIP sets, but just for the record, what AT are you? (MM, Corr, or Def?)

There are several powers identical between several ATs that accept different IO sets.

    Nope.

AFAIK, the Rikti never encountered Praetorian Earth.

[/ QUOTE ]Pretty sure you're wrong, and the Rikti did reach Praetorian Earth. But since the Praetorians weren't the "super heroes" that attacked them first, they left Praetorian Earth in peace. I don't recall if they actually made contact or just popped in and left, but they did reach Tyrant's dimension.

Ah, thanks, yea that's important info, the pet summon was info I couldn't find on Mid's or in game CoH. Pseudo pets cause me trouble sometimes when they're not given their own tabs in the powers.

[Also, just curious, why exactly would a pet summon (summon: rain of arrows) have such a high accuracy.Does that have any determining factor on the amount of times it hits the mob? (I know RoA can possibly hit 3 times)]

    [/ QUOTE ]

I honestly have no idea, but different pets even have different "Accuracy" on the summon. Most Permanent pets from Control sets have a Summon Accuracy of 1. Fire Imps and Dark Servant have a summon Accuracy of 2. RoA is 1.6, all of the Traps pseudo pets are 1.0 as well.

[/ QUOTE ]The acc of the summon does nothing. Best guess for the reason for such high acc on them is being able to quickly find the power definitions in their spreadsheets, kind of a internal system to tag the powers so that they can be found again. *shrug*

He says slotting the proc into my Serum on my crab spider would be beneficial to me. I don't know though, especially since Serum isn't an auto power like say Health is.

[/ QUOTE ]It will be beneficial in Serum. Unless you need that 6th set bonus badly, it will be more beneficial in Health.

In Serum, it has a chance to grant you +HP and +End whenever you use Serum. (One chance approximately every 180s, depending on your slotting)

In Health, it has a chance to grant you +HP and +End every 10s.

    [ QUOTE ]
He also said that powers such as Healing Aura... would be ideal places to put this proc.

[/ QUOTE ]Healing Aura would be a pretty good place for the proc (if you had Healing Aura, that is). There would be a chance to heal and grant endurance to yourself and everyone you hit with HA whenever you fire it (base rech of 8s) on top of HA's normal heal. So if you spam it, you'd be doing better than putting it in Health for yourself, and you'd also be benefiting people you team with.

Of course, they may get annoyed at you spamming HA, but whatever

    Name wipe?

    [ QUOTE ]
This HAS BEEN a hot topic in the past.

[/ QUOTE ]With the old policy? Yeah, that's part of the reason the old policy was lifted in the first place.

With the new policy? No, I don't think I've ever seen a single complaint about it. How many minutes does it take to reach level 6...?

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Efficiency Expert Pither makes up for it. (And I rather like the challenge of trying to beat his timed missions, honestly.)

[/ QUOTE ]Soloing on Villainous, EEP's missions are actually pretty darn easy. Which is good for the badge[censored]s among us

    *chart list*
    +Stealth IO's

    [/ QUOTE ]

is not 100% true... or should maybe be clarified.

[/ QUOTE ]I've changed this to "Most stealth powers give the same stealth radius as the Stealth power...". Hope that helps

    [ QUOTE ]
    3. The defense it grants drops to near 0 if you attack or take any action that causes it to suppress.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't Stealth IO's suppress as well? Considering they don't grant any defense, it seems I'd still be in the same boat.

[/ QUOTE ]Most forms of stealth will suppress to 0 when you're in combat. The ones that also provide defense will cut the defense bonus to 1/2 or 1/3 of its normal value while in combat.

    Name wipe?

    [ QUOTE ]
They've done a "name wipe" twice. This frees up names on inactive accounts (and other criteria that have changed.)

The first time, it was "Account inactive for 90 days, characters under 35." The second time, after seeing the results of the first, they lowered it to 90 days and characters under level 6.

[/ QUOTE ]The name policy enacted on August 29, 2007 can be executed during any server maintenance without notice. They only have to tell us if they change the policy, so there's no way of knowing how many times the script's been run.
