Quote:3G of hard drive space isn't that much. I can go out and buy a 1T hard drive for under $100 (that's 1024G)the client alone is reaching for 3G, can you imagine how big the server app suite would have to be? Running both on one machine would take a massive powerhouse of a box.
The issue isn't the amount of space it takes up, but the amount of your RAM and CPU it uses. According to the system requirements, you should expect 1G RAM (2G is basic nowadays, with 4G being the upper limit for 32-bit operating systems, pushing higher for 64-bit), and 2GHz processor (my 5 year old laptop has 2GHz each on 2 cores).
That's the client. The server requirements to manage hundreds or thousands of users would be large, of course. However, I doubt the needs for a small number of players (single or double digits) would be anywhere near the needs for the current servers. -

Quote:At least it's not something like Scheme. Scheme doesn't even have = for equality. You're forced to use an explicit function to test for equality, I mean, what's that?! And if you want to set a value to a variable, do you get to use =? NO! You get to use the "set!" function. Not the "set" function, the "set!" function. You know what I hate? That Visual Basic decided that '=' is used as a comparison operator. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE HELL MAN!?!?! Using '==' is a much better way, as it's far more explicit about what your objective is!
Now, Mathematica... that's got some beauts. = or Set[] for setting a value to a variable, == or Equal[] for testing equality, and ===, ≡, or Congruent[] to test for identicalness. Also, symbolic calculations have been wondrously helpful in my calculus and linear algebra classes over the years.

Are you sure that's Shield Charge you're seeing? Shield Charge has self teleport, just like Lightning Rod.

Quote:Three missions in the tunnels, to be specific. One after the other. Each takes minutes to complete, too =/There is more than one, IIRC...
Here is a picture of the North entrance. You can see the Arachnos digsite in the bottom-right corner of the image.

Quote:Hell, I've been neg repped for being a member of the Forum CartelI've been neg-repped for thinking there should be a method of gaining power post-50 other than IOing out.
I've been neg-repped for pointing out the flaws in the SSK system, and posing a system to change it that would fix those flaws, and has been tweaked and worked to avoid adding any new flaws or returning old flaws.
I've been neg-repped for being a PLer. Infact to quote "PLer, PLer, go away; come back never." Which is after I pointed out that in my 4.5 years on this game, I have 3 50s and 3 others at 30+.
And I KNOW I'm not unique in this.

Well, I'll certainly agree with you that Karst or whatever the Lost AV is called shouldn't be AV rank. But Nocturne and Sands are both supposed to be higher-ups in Arachnos (with Sands being an Arbiter, meaning he only answers to Recluse, and Nocturne being "the deadliest operative Arachnos has ever produced"), and Castillo is the leader of the Sky Raiders' operations in Faultline.

I dunno, but if they make a new ranged weapons set, I want a Bolo. Ranged Immobilize + Knockdown

Sorry, if I can sit there doing absolutely nothing and take on Malta without even losing a henchman, you're not going to convince me it's easy to faceplant on a MM

(Okay, well, I should amend that statement. After level 26, it's hard to die on a Mastermind. I haven't played a sub-26 MM in a long time) -
I disagree about the Faultline AVs. I recently soloed those arcs on a Controller (so PToD was trouble), and the only problem I had (ie: the only time I died and had to hit the hospital) was against Sands in the mission with the subs, and then I only had to hosp once.
In Agent G's final mission, where all three appear fighting each other, I would have had lots of trouble, if I had fought them. Fortunately, you only have to free Penelope, unless you really want those SOs.
And this was all on a lowbie Controller with endurance issues. -
You don't need to know how to play one well to not get killed, just average. Heck, your pets default to Defensive/Follow when summoned, which is in Bodyguard Mode, which is really all you need to survive in general PvE. I remember I once left my MM afk in a Malta mission when I went to eat dinner. When I came back, I found that I had defeated 3 ambushes, and none of my henchmen had even died. I want's even doing anything, and I still survived in PvE against one of the most annoying/difficult (depending on who you ask) enemy groups in the game. IIRC, I was on diff 4 at the time.
So, if 'know how to play one well' means 'pressing keys on your keyboard rather than being afk', I suppose you're right.
Now, if you've rolled a character as THE pet class in the game, and don't take your pet summoning powers (thereby not allowing you Bodyguard), then either you're far below average (playing the pet class without any pets), or you really know what you're doing and are trying to challenge yourself (playing the pet class without any pets

Quote:Meg Mason: When you first talk to her, she says: "all my assignments are on a strict deadline."Meg Mason's first mission is another that gives no indication that it is timed until after you accept it. All of the missions from Marcus Valerius in Cimerora are like this too.
Marcus Valerius doesn't have similar text, but both Marcus Valerius and Meg Mason are essentially newspaper/radio mission givers for a zone which doesn't have newspaper/radios available.
Borea in the RWZ is the same way, and the first mission you get from her, she tells you: "Oh, and rule number 4 - we work on a tight schedule, so everything but the hunting tasks is going to be timed." -
Quote:Flash Arrow doesn't notify mobs, but it does come with a debuff. If Flash Arrow is the only debuff applied and they see you (you walk too close, they have +per, whatever), they'll still attack, and since you're the only one to have affected them, they'll attack you.Actually flash arrow generates no aggro at all.
You can hit a spawn with flash arrow and it won't even attack.
Of course, it's difficult to get killed on a MM in general PvE, anway. -

Quote:Neither of these are true (well, the first is sort of true).A tanker with over 9000! resistance, capped at 90, is hit by a 9000 resistance debuff. That character still has over 9000! resistance, capped at 90.
Someone with 1000 defense faces an opponent with 300 tohit buff. That character effectively has 0 defense, because that 1000 defense was hardcapped at 300.
If you somehow had 9000% resistance as a Tanker (cap: 90%), and get hit with a 9000% resistance debuff, you would resist 90% of the debuff (since the game treats you as having 90%, despite having 9000%), meaning the -9000% resistance is cut down to -900% (9000 * 0.1). Your total resistance would then be 9000 - 900 = 8100%, which is still above 90%, so still capped at 90% (which is why your statement was partially true; the character would remain at 90% effective resistance)
A better example would be having exactly 90% res, vs. having 100% res, and getting hit by a -100% debuff. The character with 90% would reduce he debuff to -10%, and end up at 80% total. The character with 100% would also reduce the debuff to -10% since the game still treats them as having 90%, but 100 - 10 = 90, so they would still be at 90%.
In your second example, 1000% defense hit by a 300% debuff is wrong in two ways. First, 1000 - 300 = 700, still far above the 45% softcap (also above the 175-225.05% hard cap depending on AT). Second, defense can go negative, so even if you were right about how the debuff worked, the character would be at -100% defense (the minimum), not 0%. -
