  2. Of course, the Real answer to your question is that there is no 'best'. It's all relative to your playstyle, your team, how things are slotted, and the enemy... never forget the enemy. The enemy can change everything.

Forget 'best' and pick the one that seems most fun, though a Resist set does seem in order.

That didn't seem right, sir, due to the extra DoT, but 'proving' it forced me to look up the data on City of Data, get out the calculator and compute total damage divided by activation time and... Huh! That's pretty miserable! Thanks for the enlightenment.

Damien, I'm planning a full respec on the character so I'm planning to drop Boxing in, right from the start, at level 6 and slot it up like any other attack. I'll put it on 'auto' as my fast fill-in-the-gaps attack, just like I had Barb Swipe - except it Did seem to take over and fill my attack-chain more than needed - hence the question. I'll pick up the Tough and Weave later, when they're appropriate.

What I wanted to confirm is the DPA issue with Barb Swipe, because everything Except the animation time looks great.

  4. Yes, right, it should certainly be called 'Spikey Flurry', but will it blend?

No, really, in an attack chain, will Boxing out-perform it?

  5. Just a quick question, as I'm planning a respec.

Barb Swipe is a fast-recharging attack that does DoT and Slow - and as a Scrapper Primary attack, it can Critical.

And everybody seems to hate it? I can't seem to work out an effective comparison - Mids shows decent DPS and DPE, better than several other Scrapper tier 1s.

So, my question is this: all things considered, would replacing this attack with Fighting - Boxing be more... everything? ...anything?

  6. Okay, I'm not one of the artists, except in the Costume Creator, but I am an appreciator of art. I'm Also a pro massage therapist and student of alternative medicine. Tattoos are not my thing, I'd personally never get one, and I know next to nothing about them, except insofar as I've encountered a few, while manipulating people's anatomy. That said, it's your body and your choice. Here's my thoughts.

The lower leg/calf area is probably the most stable section of skin you have, and it's unlikely to change shape, drastically, between now and when you die - so of all of the possible locations to get a tattoo, it's a good choice. However, you will Not enjoy any tattoo procedure that crosses bone - the skin is thinner and more sensitive there.

I'm not familiar with tattoo lore or 'feng shui' or other ideas, but I can tell you about bio-energetics. The left leg (generally) draws energy up from the earth, so your Koi will be swimming into the stream of energy and may serve as a guardian in that orientation. It's all about your conceptualization. There may be over-riding energy/karma issues, and if so, then you can turn and flip your artwork to suit.

I like your first/original image best - it looks like a higher-Quality piece of art. However, the Size you're projecting means the piece is too big for the location. It will go all the way around your ankle and overlap, its going to be warped and bent in unusual ways by the changing contour of your leg, there, and it's going to be all over the bones and tendons of your ankle/leg - Not Good. The Tail end is going to be up into the bones and tendons of your Knee-joint - Double Not Good!

Beyond the health issues, wrapping the image around your leg like that is going to obscure the Art itself - a person won't be able to see it all, even with a little turning.

My suggestion is this - Spend some of that money you're banking for this tattoo on getting to old one Removed. That gives the tattoo artist a mostly clean and clear 'canvas' to work with. Shrink your beautiful golden Koi to fit into the 8-9 inches of your calf muscle - that part of your body has consistent curvature and will serve as the best platform to display your new body-art.

    Be Well!
    Fireheart

[Edit] - Okay, I just couldn't leave it alone until I'd made art out of it. Here is my concept of how the tattoo should be placed.

    Hmm, I'll make a list...

Temp Invulnerability doesn't need 6 slots and should get those slots earlier. The 'Psi-hole' isn't that bad and you can power through with Dull Pain.

Unyielding doesn't need more than the first slot, until you start filling in Sets (Despite what CMA says in his 1-20 guide-let). Its extra resistances are miniscule and even full SO slotting will only raise its contribution to +15% resistance to exotics. I'd actually slot it (later) with Steadfast - End/Res and Res/Def, and some random End/Res to round it out, and leave it at that.

RPD isn't needed at this early level - Unless you take it at L1 and wait on Temp. Inv. until later. Especially not if you 4-slot Temp. Inv. relatively early. Temporary Invulnerability is 3 times as potent as RPD - without any slotting at all!

Blinding Feint - If you skimp on Accuracy ANYWHERE, this is not the one to do it with! You absolutely want Blinding Feint to hit your target, every time! If you Miss, then you don't get the buff. It's a mini Build Up, every time you hit (+10% To-hit, +30% Damage, for 10seconds) and with a bit of recharge, you can double-stack it, briefly. As part of the Empower Combo, the bonus goes to +14% and +40%.

Weave is going to need more EndRed - IMO.

Sweeping Strike - The Obliterations are 'positional' defense and that doesn't stack with the 'typed' defenses that your powers give you - I'd choose another set, here.

This is all based on my own experience with Invulnerability (L50 Inv/EM Tanker).

Following CMA's Defense-Capped Invulnerability guide does produce one of the most potently defended Tankers in the game, but unless you're planning to try soloing Recluse, or suchlike, you'll never need that much defense. Further, unless you're willing to sink a billion Inf into the character, you'll be fighting with all the other min-maxers for those Kin-Combats and other defense-boosting sets. (Okay, that was hyperbole, I have no idea how much it would actually cost.)

For myself, I found slotting my attacks to boost Attack Values, and letting Tough Hide, Weave, and Invincibility carry my Defense, over the Resistance in Temp Invulnerability, RPD, and Tough to be absolutely sufficient. Scrimping, crunching, and contorting to eke out another few points of Defense isn't worth it, to Me.

Oooo-yeah, that's so sweet. My WP/DB Tanker had an old Warriors mission to clear, so I cranked the diff to +4x8 and went Wading through giant pools of whites, yellows and oranges, all trying to get into melee range, all feeding RttC with More Regeneration - and I just mowed them down (somewhat slowly - I Am still a Tanker, after all) while laughing my butt off!

Of course, that was Solo - if there had been another player, competing for Aggro, then RttC just wouldn't have protected Them! However, DJ_O is talking Invulnerability, and Invincibility is much more potent at holding aggro. He'll have to work Endurance management into his playstyle and build (slotting SO-class EndRed into every attack helps tremendously), but it shouldn't be a terrible challenge and Stamina and Physical Perfection should balance it all out.

It looks reasonable, for a level 50 Respec build, though I might quibble at some of your slotting. I presume you must have the 60 month Vet reward.

However, it looks (to Me) like pure misery to level, or Exemplar below level 20 or so. Here is how I'm building mine - so far:

I have a stable 1-2-1-4 attack chain (with the occasional Brawl filling gaps) almost at once - and this serves fine, until my first combo, at 16. When my second Combo arrives, at 20, I notice - If Ablating Strike was just a Leeetle bit faster, I could smoothly chain my two combos without Power Slice's punctuation. Except that the game has some timing bug, which Does Not Like This... so you actually Need some small (non-Combo) attack to perform between the Combos, something to interrupt the Combo-timer, before you restart it with the next Combo.

This is one reason the 'one combo min-maxers' keep Blinding Feint in the mix - the other is that it's a really good power!

One key issue with Dual Blades, that is not as much of a problem with any other set, is Accuracy/To-Hit. The Combo system requires that your attack Must hit, or that Combo is broken. An nice thing about the first two Combos is that they only differ by one attack and If you Miss that last attack, but the other one is available, then you could quickly trigger the other final attack and still get the benefit of a Combo (just not the one you wanted at first). However, this does emphasize the need for Accuracy/To-hit for a Dual Blader and can make some otherwise good IO sets really sub-par for your needs.

I don't have experience with the upper-level Combos, my highest level Dual Bladers, both Tankers, are 30 (with Fire/) and 32 (with Will/). However, I do have several other lower level Dual Bladers and experience Exemplaring into those lower levels, so I beg of you - Don't gimp your lower-level experience with the set, just because the plan will work when you're 50!

  14. The in-game advertising idea never seemed to take off - probably because it wasn't quite implemented properly, but nevermind that. What strikes me is that very few of the billboards in the game are well situated for exposure to passing heroes - they're not in high-traffic areas.

Worse, those that we can/do see often are... boring, they're just scenery, easy to ignore. So, here are some ideas for 'outdoor advertising' signage:

    • Have a few more of them, of various sizes.
    • Place them where the traffic can see them - Okay, Not in the truly central areas, like Atlas Plaza, or Freedom Court, but out on the roads and near the tram stations and inter-zone gateways. Orient them so that Character traffic will actually see them!
    • Update existing signage imagery to Ultra Mode clarity - if we can't see it and read it, it won't be seen, or read.
    • Until or unless actual advertisers buy into the concept, put up 'dummy ads' and have them change, occasionally. Perhaps at regular Issues and other updates. Real billboards are not static for years, but are regularly updated.
    • Generate these 'dummy ads' in the same way as the recent 'Declare Your Allegiance' contest - let the Players create the content. Repeat the contest regularly - don't let the content get stale.
Others have covered other issues I was interested in fairly thoroughly, but I definitely support updated textures on buildings and other surfaces, more trees and plants - where appropriate, and seasonal changes in their appearance. I'd like the city to actually resemble a place with an urban Plan, both city-wide and in each neighborhood/zone, rather than just a bunch of semi-random models, tossed together like a salad.

  19. Umm, I read the books and the question was 6 times 7 - no 9s involved.

Clearly, you folks read about the Answer, but have no comprehension of the Question!

No No! I want to see "City of a Million Amerikatts"! And/or "Amerikatt's Praetoria", where Marcus Cole turns over the empire to Amerikatt and retires to the Bahamas! "Amerikatt and the Amerikittens Save the World!" - although we may have already seen that on Saturday Morning Cartoons.

Or... What if Amerikatt was a Russian Warshade named Komrade Katt?

The mind swirls in a fog of imaginary purple cats...

We ALL like the curves, Miss Neko!

And the straights, too, but the curves are the most fun!

These are simpler still, Suichiro, and still evocative.

I see Comrade Hero, VexXxa - of course, Fenian reduced to her hat, and I don't recognize the brown, black and buff... I almost want to say Wolverine, but he doesn't post here.

Ummm, no. Actually, not just no, but Hell No! If you need Tough at 14, you're doing it wrong. If you're on a team and dying 'often', then your Team is doing it wrong - and so are you.

While a Fire/** Tanker is still a Tanker and perfectly capable of doing a Tanker's job, the strategy and tactics are different. You don't play a Fire/** like a Stone/**. Fire is Dynamic, you don't just plunk yourself down in the middle of the mob and taunt-bot your damage-sponge to victory! You also don't join a PL team expecting your lowbie tanker to be able to perform at 50+ level - the game doesn't work that way.

Despite not doing everything the way _I_ would, Neofusion has the critical bits in the right places.
